    definitely the most performance friendly mixer out there, especially for improvising. I have the V8! The only thing with Edirol mixers is... they are not very good at handling most distorted signals coming from circuit bent devices. Their internal TBCs are not very good, so I always have my bent signals going through a Sima SFX-9 first.

      Happy to report that the V4-EX handles distorted signals much better than the V4/8. I was able to consistently overdrive a signal through a Syntonie CBV-001 with no blue screen of death even with default settings!

    This video was super helpful! One question -- I have an Edirol V8 and I can't seem to get the same "Thick Zebra Stripe" effect when doing feedback with invert. For me, the stripes are so thin that it all sort of melts into one big texture and just appears as flickering, which is a little hard on the eyes. I'd love to get those thick stripes going. Is there a setting that can maybe, idk, change the refresh rate of an input channel? Or would a delay device help accomplish this?

    • @catfullofghosts4478
      @catfullofghosts4478  Рік тому

      delay will help with that, also the format you are using, PAL has a 50hz refresh rate and NTSC has a 60hz rate (vertical refresh) so the time between frames should be more for PAL (right?), you could try switching into PAL mode to check, also any kind of delay you can put in the way of the feedback will help, it will need to be more then just a long cable tho, something that processes the video will work well, like a video effect.

    • @catfullofghosts4478
      @catfullofghosts4478  3 роки тому

      normally feedback has a lot to do with delay time if you can add delay to the feedback path you will get different effects like a change in direction, but feedback typically moves to the right because that is the way the scanline of composite video moves.
      You could try longer cables, or putting another piece of equipment in the feedback path, or using a video delay.

    Great video! I have been using the Sima SFX-9 to mangle videos for when me and my buddies dj. It's great fun, but it is on loan. I wanted to buy the Panasonic AG-MX70. Have you or anyone else worked with that machine? Do you think it would be good for mangling the videos together and doing trippy effects?
    the sima has a key effect where it blends the two sources together depending on what is in the foreground and background. I haven't been able to figure out if the Panasonic AG-MX70 has that capability or if it only has fade in and fade out.

I also have the Eyesy critter and gutari visualizer (highly recommend taking a look at) on one of the inputs. They work really well together, but I'm having some recording issues.
      When i connect my V4 to a tv or projector using RCA it is crystal clear, but when I send it through an rca to hdmi converter, so that I can record to my computer, there is always some sort of artifact on the recording. Like a slightly fuzzy band, or some other unwanted distortion. Do you have any ideas on how I can get rid of that? i have tried three converters, and they all have their own version of distortion.

    It's possible use a guitar delay effect for analog video?

    • @catfullofghosts4478
      @catfullofghosts4478  2 роки тому

      No, sadly, or at least not directly. Audio and video have different frequency ranges. So an audio effect is pretty unlikely to be able to process the high-frequency video signal. The second barrier to this is that, analogue video has sync information that would be distorted by a delay effect. This might look cool, but more likely it will destroy the signal resulting in the TV (or whatever) being unable to display the imge.
      Hope that helps
