the Roland/Edirol V8 analog video mixer and Camera feedback

  • a sort of rambling attempt at explaining video feedback. things just kind of spiraled out of control and i also filmed this spontaneously around 2 am! in this video i dive into the menu settings, specifically the mirroring modes, to show examples of how different effects affect camera feedback. the results are, as usual, mind numbingly hypnotizing.

      haha yeah it was also some ungodly hour of night when i filmed this. i love the V8. in my experience briefly using other people's V4s I still prefer the V8 because it has many more wipe modes (though the V4 has some the V8 doesnt) and it is laid out much better.

    I think this was the first video I ever saw of yours. I remember being entranced by the natural feedback on the projector. Finally got my Edirol V4. Appreciate it all, I don't think I would have even started if it weren't for stumbling upon your channel back in the day. Strange loops abound.

    I used to get high by doing this myself, using keying between to channels with different effects is even more mad and harsh... then putting some lzx stuff in the loop and we approching dmt effects... cheer's!

    Wow just wow. Always wanted to do visuals but did not find the right device. The stuff you do with this gave me goosebumps several times, some stuff even looked like the patterns I saw as a small kid when I rubbed my eyes for hours, didn't know they exist outside my head.

    hands down the coolest thing ever. deeply inspiring video here. the second i saw the part at 5:49 I was like, I gotta do this. I've experimented with the concept in Unity and having this in one's room is next level to me. is there a projector involved? this kind of thing would be a dream come true to experiment with.

    How important is camera/projector quality in a setup like this? I saw that your vixia is like $700 new, i imagine the same for the project. But yeah, you can make anything with anything if lofi is the goal but itd be cool to hear your opinion on fidelity for instances like this

    • @YOVOZOL
      @YOVOZOL  4 місяці тому

      Short version: just make art, learn skills, do experiments.
      Long version: I get comments like yours all the time, but I never know how best to respond because most of the time nobody mentions 1) what skills they already have and 2) what they want to accomplish with them. Also what does "this whole world" mean? Are you talking about video feedback loops? Analog video? VJ-ing? Moving visuals accompanying music in general? Creating ANYTHING with video?
      Important questions (sort of rhetorical, not meant to be condescending, not exhaustive):
      Do you do know how to edit video with video editing software? Have you taken photos/video with a camera that isn't your phone? Have you ever designed a poster? Do you know what an RCA cable looks like? Do you want to make music videos? Do you make music? Do you want to make visuals for music? In a live concert context or for social media? Would you describe yourself as a technical minded person or as an emotional/artistic personality? (I am the latter, I just happen to have learned skills I need). Have you ever creating something as a fan? Have you ever made an artwork (in any medium) simply because you felt compelled by your emotions and needed an outlet?
      The last question is the most important. If the answer to that is no... then re-read the short version, follow your heart, and see where it takes you. Don't forget to use search engines along the way.
