    I watch a lot of restoration videos and I'm always a little bit conflicted when the restorer makes the items look brand new and shiny. I feel like the piece loses all of its character and almost resembles a reproduction. Your beautiful rocking horse didn't make me conflicted. You did an outstanding job maintaining the antique look but restored the piece bringing it back to life. Well done!

    Mate; what an outstanding performance and restoration. I was concerned that you were going to re-paint the piece, but you restored it faithfully by good ol’ elbow grease. You have come such a long way since we first met. Amazing work and treasured memories built with your beautiful family.
    I hope your girls get plenty of use from this beautiful piece.
    Your gesso concoction brought back memories of when I used to paint artwork. A mixture of acrylic paint and talcum powder forms a strong rock like bond that would fill in minor dents that you may have missed when filling your piece. I needed to create some texture to a painting once and talcum powder was all I had on hand. That painting is still on my mum’s wall.
    Great to see you and your family again. I’m jealous of your hair mate.

      @LittleRestorers  9 місяців тому +1

      Thank you, my friend. As you know, with every new project, we tend to do things a little bit differently. In this case, preserving this almost antique original paint was of utmost importance. We matched the right shades of colours and touched up every little paint chip. Very time consuming and boring, so didn't show too much of that. The idea was u would look at it and go... well it looks the same ... and that is exactly the point of this kind of restoration 😉👍

    • @KevinD_33x150
      @KevinD_33x150 9 місяців тому +1

      @@LittleRestorers At the start, I was hoping you'd go down that path. This was definitely a case of less is more. Too much & it would never be the same, as it is original only once.
      I also am a fan of PVA glue & sawdust fillers! I've used it a few times for skirting boards & architrave repairs. Works well. 👍

    I just don’t get it - you put a huge effort into repairing the wood, metals, and leathers while doing a bare nod to the paint job. It looks like someone took a fat old shaggy pony and tried to dress it up with thoroughbred tack and racing silks. You could see where someone had put scales on it in the past; using that as a pattern with different contrasting colors could have made it into a masterpiece. But to each his own… the wood finish was lovely…
