- This 1960s Cyclops tandem tricycle is coming back to life! Watch as I restore this beautiful vintage Australian made trike
You might have had one as a child and this restoration video might bring back some good memories.
We'll be using a variety of restoration techniques to bring this tricycle back to its former glory so hope you enjoy the whole process.
Chrome effect powder coation :
The seller recommends using an acrylic clear powder coat over the chrome. This will however make the chrome effect more dull so I decided to do without and see how it holds up.
Knowing how my kids will tread this toy, I am not too worried about what it will look like a few months down the track.
Special shoutout to Fred Hay for the new & used parts and the stickers.
You can find him on the Pedal Car Panels, Facebook Group.

Once again - the result of a exceptional and gifted restorer
A fantastic production - the trike is even better than new with the assistance of the competent “apprentice” 😁
Big thank you kevin for always supporting my the channel. Kids have been having a good go at it, and it's still in one piece 🤣
I love how you are getting your kids involved and passing down the passion.
Thank you sir. I hope the passion stays when they get older 😂
You have taken my breath away. Your videography and editing has gone through the roof mate. That video is on par with some of the “European” restorers. Well executed, perfect lighting and clear close up shots. Amazing.
And the trike, what can I say. Looks perfect to me. I’m sure your lovely daughters will love it and get hours of enjoyment from it. Love seeing them helping you, although I did miss your intro with the girls saying “Hello”.
Great work Vince.
I had issues after issues with this one and it tested me big time. Am glad you enjoy it and thanks for your kind comment.
I'll make sure we have the kids saying "hello" in the next vid 😉👍
Great job! 🔧👍🔨

Another outstanding job! The girls are getting big and are getting very good at helping out! Great stuff...
Thanks John. Yes wont be too long before this tricycle is too small for them 😁
Outstanding work 👍 what an amazing transformation. Loved the whole process you took us through. One of your best videos so far. I liked how you tackled some of the issues you had. Powder coating is a nice addition to your tool kit. Always good to see the kids helping out and learning new skills. The end result is truly amazing. Well done 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks mate, appreciate your comment and support. It was my toughest project so far but we all happy with the result. Kids been riding it every day in the past week.😁

Thank you 👍
My twin brothers had that tricycle (they were born in 1963).
Thanks for watching- So great that these type of toys can still be used by todays generations 👍
@@LittleRestorers absolutely!
I dudnt even know i needed polymorph cyrstals until watching this !! Dam powder coat really is up a level or two .. maybe i shoulda done the car with it ... Outstanding wirk , in evey way research , equipment, skills ,production and outcome .. have you thought about a gressel maybe for your next project . ?
Thank you Handy dad. The polymorph pellet is commonly known as moldable plastic. It becomes translucent at 62 degrees C and once cooled down, it's pretty solid. Strange material to work with.
Unfortunately, I have never come across a Gressel vice in Australia 😁
🙌🙌🙌
Thank you 😊👍👍
Very nice. New subscriber. 👍
Thanks for watching and subscribing. Appreciate the support 👍
ficou maravilhoso
Thanks for watching 👍
Wow, absolutely amazing work, doing your own powder coating now?
Thanks Wayne. Just experimenting with the powder coating as I wanted to try the Chrome effect as a cheaper alternative to chrome. They recommend a clear coat on top, but those kids are just gonna throw this trike around. Its gonna used and abused 🤣
Absolutely stunning work.
I started following your channel about a year ago when you restored the high speed cycle but have missed so many of your videos that I ended up binging 90% of them yesterday.
Your level of finish is amazingly beautiful and inspiring.
I am currently planning to restore 2 tricycle's I aquired from my local mens shed and will be using your pedal car guy for anything i need to replace.
I just have a few questions.
What is the putty you use to smooth out the dents for such a smooth finish? Is it just the Rustoleum spaint you use?
And are you in Brisbane? If so we would love to have you come give a chat at our Men's Shed and show some of your completed works.
Keep up the great work and and amazingly detailed videos.
Thank you, kind Sir, for checking out the rest of my video. Appreciate your nice comment.
I use an automotive blade putty on the parts that have small rust pittings. Spray putty is for flat surfaces. Sanding between coats is key.
I use Rustoleum mostly as it is an all- rounder paint, and you can apply clear coat to it within the hour.
And Yes, I am in Brisbane- think my email address is in the about section on youtube. Theres facebook and instagram also, if you want to contact me for questions /tips or tell me more about the Men Shed thing 😉.
Thank you again 👍
Nice work mate! Love these old Cyclops. Have a pedal pusher and a trike in the shed to do myself one day. What diameter cord did you use for the tyres please?
Thanks for watching and all the best restoring yours. It's a 19mm cord.
Excuse me you can just MELT PLASTIC BEADS and make whatever the heck part you need if you can sculpt it???? How have i not known about this 😢
Hi thanks for watching. Yes, it also know as moldable plastic and softens at around 62 degrees C. Make whatever shape u want...Once cooled down, it's actually very solid.😉
✅ - polymorph
One suggestion... please don't show the outcome in the beginning of the video
Thanks for watching 👍
