How to paint realistic ocean water | alla prima | full painting tutorial! |beach oil painting

- Welcome back guys!
We are doing an oil painting tutorial and we will be using a palette knife for this one along with some brushes. Sometimes less is more when it comes to realism and I just want to share with you how easy it can be to achieve that level of realism in a painting, even for a beginner! This is the type of painting that looks realistic from afar but once you get closer you start seeing all of the texture which makes for an interesting painting.

This was painted on a 16 by 20 inch canvas
The colors I used:
Ultramarine blue
Cerulean blue
Phthalo turquoise
Alizarin crimson
Cadmium yellow
Burnt umber
Sap green
White
Cool Grey
The brushes :
1 inch flat
Small palette knife
Angled flat brush (medium sized)

LOVED this tutorial!! Thank you so much for sharing your talents. I have been painting with acrylics for 2-3 years and have recently been trying oils. Struggled a bit with them when trying to do ocean theme paintings. This will help me greatly!! 💕💕💕

thank you so much !’ i use gamblin and the masters touch - i actually like the masters touch because the oils are soft and easy to work with and affordable!!!

Be careful you dont want to paint on you, might be harmful. I use oils linseed oil turps, bare hands, eat sandwiches, drink coffee wine and even dip brushes sometimes in both, it makes a artist feel alive. ❤
I actually love this painting because it looks more like acrylic. To me, oil paintings look like… paintings. Acrylics, more realistic.

just from the oil getting on my hands - I’m messy when I paint and I go back and forth from painting to taking care of my young kids so I just like to take caution!
