I loved how Agnes' softer side emerged so she could be that pillar of love and strength. Ada needed her big sister's love, and she'd received it unconditionally. Agnes, I love this side of you. I understand why you're so stern, and that's because of what the late Mr. Van Rhijn had put you through during your marriage. You're capable of love and compassion. Please find a way to balance it out, and you'll alright. #Sistersforever
That is the thing about strong women like Agnes in the Gilded Age or Emily in Gilmore Girls etc. The audience is quick to judge and condemn them for their snobbishness and rigidity but when trouble comes we appreciate and need their strength. Agnes may be impossible to get along with at times but there is no one who is better suited to be beside Ada. I would go further and say that Agnes spends far too much time alone. She has so much to give yet she self isolates because of her station in life. For anyone not in Agnes's station in life, Agnes's strength is a terrible waste when so many are in need of Agnes's strength and wisdom. Agnes may be provincial and old fashioned but Agnes's thoughts on how things should be have a reason (often a reason from personal experience with herself or someone she knows). One may not want to always follow Agnes's advice and blindly obey. However, one would be foolish not to want to hear her thoughts and opinions before making a decision. Women like Agnes I have found have a rather unique capability to size up a persons character, personality and whether they can be trusted. Women like Agnes have a mind that works on brutal reality. They can see the dark side clearly. Dont mistake it for being a pessimist or lacking empathy. Seeing the dark side is necessary to have wisdom and see the bitter and ruthless truth of a person or situation. Ada's husband is now adopted and safely under Agnes's care and protection. He will be cared for as Agnes would care for Ada (Agnes's own sister).

Ada is the purest character in the show, she didn't deserve this!
Glad that Agnes is a good big sister!
I was also Ada at the end, twice. I lost my mother to cancer and my dad to alzheimer's. I felt a piece of me die when I had the 'talk' with them.
okayyyy agnes winning some points!
They must have paid this actor a fortune to lie down next to and kiss Cynthia Nixon. Ewwww
Dude... Robert Sean Leonard is a good friend of Nixon's. He was cast in part because the two are comfortable with each other.
@@kateorgera5907 He was also terrific in the role.
