It’s actually really interesting that you guys got to experience the which-terminator-is-the-good-one as intended. The trailers for the movie spoiled it back in the day
I saw this in the theater as a kid and had no idea it was coming. As a 9 year old my mind was blown. Still one of my favorite twists I’ve seen in the theater.
Isn't crazy how none of the other sequels were able to produce an intimidating antagonist? I think it speaks voulme to both Arnold's imposing figure being able to convey menace as much as it does and Robert's acting chop to be able to look so emotionless and terrifying despite his smaller stature. Dark Fate probably has the least menacing "human form" in the whole franchise, it's laughable how they didn't even try...
30 years later, we are still blessed with the genuine confusion of "wait, Arnold is the good guy now ?". You cannot believe how happy that made me. Thank you ! This was everything and more that i hoped it would be when clicking on the video.
Back in '91 my friend avoided all the trailers before the movie came out, so the Arnold 'switch' was a surprise to him as well. Ever since I've been avoiding trailers for upcoming movies whenever possible.
This movie blew people's minds with the special effects when it came out. Most people at the time had no idea computer effects like this were even possible.
The power of hard worked over practical effects with CGI as assistance instead of the full CGI messes with weird physics we have today. Everything has weight and feel to it. It's tremendous. The latest I can remember, Mad Max Fury Road, took the practical effects approach and it looks so damn good too. Head and shoulders above Disney movies mostly shot in front of a green screen.
James Cameron had to film the helicopter bridge scene himself because all the other camera operators refused too, given how many ways the stunt could've gone wrong
Fun fact: When the T-1000 was doubling Sarah Connor, rather than use special effects they just brought in Linda Hamilton's identical twin sister Leslie Hamilton.
Fun fact in case no one else mentioned it: there are two sets of twins in this film. The prison guard killed by the T-1000 was played by the actor's twin brother for that one scene. Linda Hamilton's twin sister is in every scene where you either see two Sarah Connors or one non-ripped Sarah Connor. Edited for typo.
There's also a deleted scene that occurs when the Terminator talks about his ability to learn & become human. In the extended scene, he explains that he needs to have a memory module in his head set from "read only" to "write". He powers down & Sarah removes the module from his head. She (briefly) considers smashing it with a hammer, but John convinces her not to, arguing that they need "their" Terminator to defeat the new Terminator. The scene is shot facing a "mirror" (actually an empty frame) from behind Sarah's back, with the Terminator seated in front of a table. The Sarah visible in the "mirror" is Linda Hamilton; the one whose back is being filmed is her sister. And you don't really need to see the subsequent movies. There's six movies and a TV series; they have about 1.5 movies worth of worthwhile content in them.
To be fair, by the last few films and what Doctor Who Skynet says, you can conclude that T2's ending happened - But not in other universes where, for instance, Daenerys was Sarah Connor.
How sheltered these women were as children makes their reactions priceless. I can't watch any of their reactions without cramping up from laughing. Love watching their reactions.
I'd like to think their reactions are genuine, but its a little suspicious sometimes. How can people have not seen some of the most iconic movies (not just T2) of all-time.
@@ShindlerReal Some families just didn't do movies. I was personally banned from watching _any_ film that had an age rating older than I was; while friends at school were playing Resident Evil and watching Aliens and Terminator at 15, all I could do was read articles on them in Playstation Magazine. I had good parents, they just treated age restrictions as law. I've done a lot of catching up as an adult!
@@garrettrains3916 Her and her sister (Who are both borderline valley girls) are def. the sunny rom com and hallmark type. It is absolutely not shocking that they haven't seen these films. They both have very visceral reactions to horror and violence (even light stuff like the Shining). My mother is the exact same way. She outright refuses to watch anything with violence. And will full blown look away from the screen if she even suspects something like that is coming. IE the scene at the end of Sling Blade with the mower blade. They don't even show it, but she refused to look. Yes Terminator movies are iconic, but a robot from the future sent to slaughter humans def. doesn't sound like the type of movie these two would go out of their way to watch. Or even consider.
Some sharp eyes will spot how loyal James Cameron is to some of his actors. John’s foster mother played ‘Vasquez,’ in ‘Aliens.’ She was a heavy gunner who ‘Hudson’ asked if “she’d ever been mistaken for a man?” if you’ll recal.
Jenette Goldstein, Vasquez in Aliens, John's foster mother in T2, also played a role (an Irish Mom) in Titanic. Not actually Latina or Irish, but apparently many found her accents very convincing!
The guy that took pictures of the Terminator at the mall.... was the cop that the first Terminator bashed into the cop car in the first movie. Which is why he looks so surprised. Go watch it again I'll wait.
Robert Patrick was SO good as the T-1000. Rather than a massive physique, he used his movement and facial expressions to convey the threat, and he did a fantastic job.
Robert Patrick is what James Cameron visioned The Terminator to be in the first movie. Not a brutish character like Arnie, but a cat-like robot, who was extremely agile etc.
Part of what's truly menacing about Patricks T1000 is that it's so NEUTRAL. As opposed to the malicious, ranting, raving, angry villain trope, the T1000 is almost banal. Shoot him a bunch of times, crash him in a truck into a building, freeze him, shatter him, make him remelt and reassemble and everything, and it's like "Sigh, are you done? Can you all just die already?". The T1000 even when thwarted is just mildly annoyed, aggravated, disappointed. But then on to the next attempt to find/kill the target.
Even at the end, as he was melting in the slag, he was still doing everything he could to kill John, and complete his mission. That is a bad guy for the ages!
and I thought Arnold originally wanted to play Kyle Reese (and auditioned for that role) in the first film. But James recommended he be the antagonist. Maybe even at that time, he knew he'd be doing a sequel and Arnold would have his chance as the hero second time around.
I met Edward Furlong and Robert Patrick at comic con. Vasquez, from Aliens, plays John’s foster mother. This movie uses Twins in two scenes. The red head security guard has a Twin and Linda Hamilton has a Twin sister. The Twin guards make appearances in Gremlins 2 and in Good Morning Vietnam.
The guy that played the liquid metal T-1000 put a lot of work into this role. He practiced not blinking and running without moving his head, and gave an unearthly, alien and frightening feel to his single minded killing machine.
The end is sad because the terminator was the closest thing to a father that John had ever had in his life. It sucks too because they basically have to go on the run from the law because all proof of the terminator was destroyed.
you care because you spend a lot of time with getting them established, so by the time the action starts we care about them because we got to know them. Cameron did this with the first movie, and it's the reason the latest movie sucked, we spent 5 minutes with them before all hell broke lose, so you didn't find yourself giving a damn if they got killed or not
@@booshank2327 Not only the essence. t1000 was legit scary. I saw T2 when I was really young and there are scenes in this movie I was afraid to watch. Like when Arnold removes the skin from his arm and or when t1000 puts a spike through that guard's eye. I'm way to desensitised now, but for some people that's friggin intense. Especially in such a well shot movie that makes these things look real. And it still holds up today ! That's crazy.
Dyson's agonal breathing as he lay dying is spookily real. I thought it was over-acting until I found myself on the verge of death, in completely different circumstances [petit mal status epilepticus]. The nuke nightmare scene hit different for a lot of people when this movie came out, because the generations that watched it lived through the cold war, where they were always afraid of nuclear strikes. The scene visualized the scenario for them.
Honestly, we weren't all that afraid of nuclear strikes. That sort of thing was just part of the background, always there but usually not something you thought about. If nukes were popping off somewhere in the world occasionally, that probably would have made it a little more real. As it was, it was just too theoretical and huge a concept to worry about. If it happened, it happened and you'd never have to worry about anything again. I think to most people, the nuke scene wasn't personally threatening, it was disturbing in its own right, just as it still is the first time someone sees it now.
@@hamletksquid2702 having grown up then I can assure you that many of us were afraid. All those movies, whether specifically about nuclear annihilation like the Terminator or The Day After, or “let’s beat the Commies” stuff like Rambo and Invasion USA and Red Dawn, were all a reflection of our common anxiety. It’s why so much music was about that stuff at the time too. People got on with their lives just like we do now with mass shootings now a common occurrence, but that doesn’t mean we weren’t all aware of it. The only thing about T2 in particular is that it was maybe a but late because the fall of the Berlin Wall and Iron Curtain made that particular worry less pressing.
T2 is widely considered one of the best sequels ever made! Not that the first one isn't great, it is, but sequels usually fall short. Glad you watched it!
This movie, Empire Strikes Back, and Godfather 2 are what I consider to be the best sequel movies of all time. LOTR would count, except those were planned as a trilogy from the outset, they were even all being made at the same time so it can't count. You could kind of say the same about Star Wars and Godfather except back then there was no preplanned movie franchise the way there is now.
I always felt that LInda Hamilton deserved a best supporting actress award for her role in this movie. She metamorphosed into this lady who was courageous, strong, vulnerable, and really screwed up, mentally and emotionally.
"Come with me if you want to live." The very first thing Reese said to Sarah, and the only way future-john knew Sarah would go with the terminator. So brilliant.
It think it’s more a reference to the first film, not some sort of genius idea by John. Future John wouldn’t know what Reese said to Sarah unless she told it to young John, and then he witnessed it again when Arnold said it to her. It’s a self-contained paradox, so there would be nothing really brilliant about it.
@@anti0918 Or, a simpler explanation is that when Sarah told young John all about his father, she only knew Reese for a couple days, so she likely told him everything he'd ever said to her, including that line. Then John could have told the T100 to say it to his mom to instantly call back that memory of safety for her. It was not future-John who told the T100, it was teenage John, on the way to the asylum. No paradox... well, not for this part, anyway. ;-] Note: Of course, this is not in the film, but it makes sense that it would have happened off camera. There is no other reason for the T100 to have used exactly those words. Indeed, there is no reason to think that future John would have thought of it since he sent the T100 to protect himself, not his mom. James Cameron is the brilliant one! ;-]
@@robertcartier5088 That's your, "simpler", explanation?.. Good grief& it's just Cameron inserting a well-executed fan service recall/callback to the previous film... Writers love to do that. "On your left", from the Avengers movies is a good one - and just about everything in the Back to the Future series brilliantly calls back to itself. It's knowing - but it's a gag that's between the writer and audience and totally outside of the action and plot of the movie and invisible to the characters: that's the whole point. It's probably a mistake to overthink these things.
I would continue with 3 and Salvation, not as memorable as the first two, but still good and enjoyable. I love Christian Bale as John Connor and the Mad Max visual tone as opposite with the Cameron's blue future (with pun intended). The last two I have refused to watch it. They look like shit.
I didn't mind the 3rd one which for you is the first one that doesn't exist ;-) To me it was different, in both a good and bad way, but for me it neatly tied up the viewers remaining questions, And that moment when you realise that "Judgement day is inevitable" was quite sobering The whole time I was waiting for the classic last minute win, only to realise that I was watching the beginning of the end......
In this movie the terminator becomes more human while she becomes less human. It's a powerful contrast. I enjoyed having you both along for the reaction!
Well in a deleted scene it shows why that is. I wont spoil anything, but when I saw the clip on youtube it made so much more sense. Really wish they kept it in the movie!
This was adorable. Little sister "I don't wanna look!" Big sis, "Don't look!" I watched the full thing on patreon. Lotta fun seeing it from yalls perspective. ❤
When Carly said, "Enter Death Machine!" I laughed because there is an actual band called Austrian Death Machine that are named in honour of Arnold with songs that parody his movies hahaha
I was 4 years old when I saw t2 I love t2 but for me it’s an unnecessary sequel I thought 1 was all you needed but I accept it because it and aliens are the best sequels ever
Proper usage of CGI and practical effects where they can be properly meld together. This is so important. This is why good movies don't go strictly practical or strictly digital - they do best of what they can.
i remember in the theaters my dad yelled so loud with excitement when t1000 walked through metal bars, i was 10 years old so i did not appreciate the effects as much as my dad.
I love that the "twist" of Arnold being the protector is intact for new viewers! It was spoiled by all the marketing when this came out. Literally everyone knew Arnold was good lol
I was thinking the same thing. I saw all the marketing, and knew what to expect when I walked into the theaters. At least a new generation can enjoy the twist. Because it's a great twist.
THAT fact is a bit of a twist in itself. People seeing this so far after its release and the promotional hype means they are unsullied as to its plot points. 🤔😁
Film marketing from that time was so bad. They made The Grifters (1990) look like a comedy when it’s actually a very dark film. We’re probably lucky that Boyz n the Hood wasn’t made to look like Friday by those people.
Well, I mean, 3 was weird but did kinda wrap it all up by showing Skynet and what not. So maybe do that one...but absolutely that's it. There are no others. Period.
@@calibre97 T3 basically makes T2 pointless (since Judgment Day still happens despite all the effort in T2) while at the same not giving any explanation as to why and how that happened. Even if some of the action is good, the movie doesn't really have a reason to exist, which is its biggest problem.
@@maciejkowalski2759 I'll respectfully disagree with you on this. Regarding time travel and changes, the MCU taught us (i know not the first to do so - just the most recent so I'm referencing it) that there could just be another timeline. Also, the whole point is we didn't see Skynet come into being yet so T3 showed that. Again, just saying it exists so if you want, go see it. or don't. I am vehemently agreeing with avoiding Salvation, Genesis and Dark Fate, though because they're all just bad.
@Speaker of Thoughts, Free Speech Advocate Man... I had erased the Highlander sequels from my memory until now. I don't know how they turned a film with the catchphrase "there can be only one" into a franchise.
I'm so jealous of you two. You got to experience the twist at the beginning of the movie. Not even people that saw the movie in theaters got to be surprised, because the commercials prior to the theatrical release spoiled that Arny was the good guy.
You said "Into the Lava. Get into the lava." It's molten steel, so... that was hilarious ! I Loved it when you said that. And a couple minutes earlier you said, "That can't be real" --- when the Terminator was thawing and reconstituting. Beyond hilarious.... ! And your sis says "It isn't." I’m guessing most people know this but if you don’t James Cameron was considering OJ Simpson as the Terminator but wasn’t convinced he could play a killer robot. 😮
I love how Sarah went from an amazingly tough badass right back to the terrified woman she was a few years ago right after she saw the terminator. Her ptsd flared right up. No weapons, no escape, just her and a machine there to kill her. That has to be terrifying.
And imagine it happening so suddenly. It's been roughly 15 years since you thought you escaped the worst nightmare imaginable, you've tried to move on, lost your son, been forced into the psych ward, and then suddenly BOOM, there it comes walking right back out from around a corner.
The police came to question her remember? Showed her a video of Arnold in a shopping mall. So she knew a Terminator was around. Made her jump the gun on an escape plan before she was ready. Etc.
The end which makes no sense. At the moment where they stop judgement day, there is no time maschine which send back Kyle, so John never exists in the first place.
@@unkommentiertesgameplay It's paradoxical, but it's not like there's any real way to know for sure, since we can't experiment with time travel in reality. The weirder part is how Dyson copied the chip from the first terminator, meaning no one ever actually discovered that technology. It's a copy of itself conceived of by nobody.
@@Corn_Pone_Flicksno one cares how timetravel actually works, what matters is how it works in the Terminator movies and in the movies it works singular, like back to the future, change things in the past, change the future, thats why skynet wants to kill john in the past. So your weirder part is not the problem. T3 explains it. Dyson take the technology from the first terminator and the judgement day starts sooner. In T3 there is no Chip but the Humans invent skynet anyway so judgement day happens inevitable. The Events of T1 where the Chip left accelerate the invention of Skynet and the Events of T2 just correct the timeline.
Having Carly on board for this one was the right thing to do. Once again, props to your editor. They do an awesome job not only capturing your reactions, but including all the important scenes we like in these movies.
I LOVE that you went into this not knowing that Arnie was the good guy this time -- it was supposed to be a suspenseful thing, but the trailers spoiled the crap out of it back when it came out.
Not sure if you gals picked up on the fact that when Arnold says to Sarah, "Come with me if you want to live", he was actually quoting Reese. It's a nice hat tip to Reese and the very worlds Sarah would need to hear in order to trust Arnold. ;)
On top of that, the helicopter under the bridge scene, all of the camera operators refused to film that scene as they did not want to witness the pilot's real death if it went badly, so James Cameron actually filmed that scene himself with the camera!! It was a REAL helicopter, with a real pilot flying it!

When you said that "this was the ending it needed", that's exactly how James Cameron intended it to be. There's alternate ending scene in which Sarah Connor is on the same park from her nightmares, now an old woman, recording her thoughts while John is playing with his daughter. Cameron thought that it was clear enough that humanity had won and averted the apocalypse so he changed to the shot of the road with a similar narration, as a way of showing that humanity had an open road in their future.
Yeah, it was always intended to be done with T2. The studios for years bugged him to come back to make more money and he always told them his story was finished. I believe Cameron lost the rights so they made the sequels without him.
@@Nigel_A15 yeah well, they messed things up with that last sequel and undid all of what happened in T2. What a mess..... T1 and T2 are the only ones that exist for me.

Sequels are often the best movies since the studio usually won't commit huge sums or greenlight crazy storylines for the first movie, but if it becomes successful, the director will have carte blanche to make a badass second movie of their dreams, see Godfather 2, Terminator 2, Spiderman 2, X2, Aliens, The Dark Knight, Empire Strikes Back etc. But then the greedy studios will then insist to milk the franchise with a third movie even if the director/writer never really had a third one in mind, and that's why so often the third movie is such a disappointment, such as Godfather 3, Spiderman 3, Terminator 3, X3, etc.
@@tren133 With films like The Godfather or comic book stuff, you can justifiably explain away endless sequels... comic book heroes always get another comic book next month... the mob always continues on with a new kingpin... but T2 was a legitimate solid end point of a story. For a time travel premise, which always invites endless possibilities for plotholes, the first two Terminator movies were relatively airtight. It's a damn shame they couldn't just leave it alone... but being a victim of your own success is one of those universal truths. Most of us would have tried to cash in one more time as well.
This one and Wrath of Khan were probably the best sequels when compared to the originals. MI:2 is also kick-ass, but it had a much better first film to work off of than the other two did.
Robert Patrick based his head movements of the T1000 on a bald eagle, he also trained himself to run at high speeds without blinking or looking phased. Apparently he trained himself to run so fast that he started to catch up with the dirt bike, which is the shot used after John jumps the curb with his dirt bike.

A little fun fact: The actress who played John’s foster mom (Jenette Goldstein) had her very first feature film role in Aliens five years earlier. She played the buff and tough Vasquez, and you barely recognize her with all her natural freckles and the curly hair in T2.
I really like how Cassie is now the seasoned veteran - scarred and grizzled and grousing about the foxholes in Bastogne - and her adorable little sister is now the innocent one ;D "No, don't look kid... stay behind the blanket, I'll tell you when it's safe to come out." XD
This is amazing seeing someone who doesn’t know the twist with the terminators at the beginning! The trailers spoiled it immediately, plus the nonstop toy commercials targeted at kids (for an R-rated movie) where Arnold is trying to protect John from the T1000. It took a generation for someone to actually get to experience the movie the way it was intended.
Not really, I can tell you for sure, whole former Soviet Union saw this as it was intended on pirated video cassettes. Not many saw the advertisement for the movie.
Selling the toys to kids was a no brainer. Everyone knew as soon as the film came out on video, all the family will sit down and watch it together. Then the kids get the toys for Christmas
One of my fav Arnold movies was Predator, as I saw that with no idea at all what it was about. I thought it was going to be just another Arnold the soldier movie. Ohh, so wrong I was. Definitely a movie, like T2, best watched completely unspoiled.
Yeah, the era of making toys from violent R-rated movies like T2 and Robocop was weird. On the other had, James Cameron's writing is usually pretty childish, so it makes sense for Aliens and the Terminator franchise.
2:20 the reason this looks so good was because the robots were filmed separately with stop motion and they protected tht recording onto a screen on the set. This is a very old technique use d as far back as the 40s and 50s but it generally looked like crap because the projection was terrible. So you'd have a nice crisp film with very grainy action scenes, jason and the argonauts come to mind. This is actually similar to how they filmed the mandalorian but that wasn't projected, it was just played on screens and they used a video game engine to skew the image based on where the camera is, it's pretty interesting you should look it up if it sounds appealing to you.
This is because they literally invented new applications and technology to do the CGI! The walking through the bars scene can not be done today in 2021 with the best off the shelf gear that Hollywood has as it was custom made in house for this one film! lol
Fun fact: T-1000 actor Robert Patrick ran so fast in the chase scene when he ran after John on a motorcycle, they had to slow him down, or he would have caught him. ^^
Patrick also practiced extensively to be able to sprint after the bike without breathing visibly and to be able to shoot his pistol without flinching, both of which gave tremendous credibility to the impression that he's an inhuman machine.
He is also great as the voice actor for Sokka's Master Piandao in Avatar The Last Airbender. They put in a great (and subtle) reference to T2 in the script too! The first thing you must learn is that your weapon is an extension of yourself. Well, more like an extra-long, really sharp arm.
Fun little fact. Linda Hamilton trained with Arnold Schwarzenegger for about six months for this movie. He was her personal trainer, they worked out together. She had eat what he ate, and do the same exercises he did.
Actually I don't think they did as her twin sister came to visit her on set once and he didn't know she had a twin and ofc her sister had no idea what he was talking about as he was impressed with her new muscles.
No she did not train with Arnold. She had a trainer hired by the studio. Trained six to seven times a week. Sometimes twice a day due tight schedule, Had a lot of problems with recuperation. But after that most of the chicks wanted to look like her. Most of the actors are pain in the ass clients A lot of them are lazy. They train for the movie for usually three months. Between movies most of them look like shit. I use to have personal fitness studio in LA and OC for 28 years.
@@ChadSimpson-ft7yzJames Cameron was married to Linda, I'm pretty sure he knew she has a twin sister. He more likely didn't know about the sister during the first film.

One of the best action films of all time. One of the greatest female characters all time, up there with Ridley. Groundbreaking fx for the time. So many great things associated with this film.
Agreed. Sarah Connors and Ellen Ripley. Both are resourceful survivors. Both with PTSD yet distinctly different characters. Both completely believably written bad-a$$es. SIDEBAR: Both franchises reached their pinnacle at the second movie IMO.
In regards to the "good story telling classics of film" this marks the end of the Terminator series for most fans. It's a bit of a cynical meme to say that "there are only 2 Terminator films" but, I believe you personally will find more enjoyment leaving this franchise's story behind at this stage and move on to other things. This film is truly the best ending.
Yep, without argument. Sometimes the Woke Brigade in Hollywood don't realise what they're messing with when they start confusing Message with Story ... and they keep pouring money down the drain because of it. It worked for a few years because we didn't realise what they were doing and so would turn out to watch the next Terminator etc movie. Now we know and their Golden Goose is bleeding out.
Despite sequels not being as good as T2 (as i believe that there wont be a sequel that will ever top T2) Sarah Chronichles, Terminator 3 and Salvation i would say are worthy of being called terminator sequels as they continue the story without fucking with the lore to much and exand the lore and give some new intresting twists like ending from T3 and Salvation showing us the closest future war that we will ever get, after Salvation everything else i would say is completely optional fanservice. So for me i see 3 potential endings after T2, best one obviously being alternative ending of T2, 2nd best ending imo T3/TS and 3rd best ending TSC.
T2 was monumental back in the day. It's still widely regarded as one of the best action films of all time, definitely one of the best "sequels" (those don't always equal the success of the first movie), and set a new standard for special effects in 1991, which I imagine are still emulated today.
The great thing about your reactions to the surprise role reversal of Arnold being the good guy is that when this movie first came out, the trailers for it gave away the intended surprise (much to the director's disapproval) so no one was surprised like James Cameron intended when they saw the movie.
This is now the second time James Cameron directed a sequel to a classic sci-fi thriller (after Aliens) in which he asked, "What if the evil robot was nice this time?"
"come with me if you wanna live". Same line said by Reese in the first movie. The doctor is the same who talked to her in the police station in the 1st movie. I remember when this movie came out. It was awesome. Everyone was mesmerized by the effects. And the soundtrack is just great.
A lot of people think that the scene with the T-1000 chasing after John Connor on the bike is weird with how fast he's running, but the truth is Robert Patrick was actually so fast, he was catching up to Edward Furlong too easily, so they had to tell him to slow down!
While I have watched all the other terminators, this one stands out as the best-even 30 years later. This is arguably one of the best sequels of any genre.
Fun fact: John Connor was wearing the "Public Enemy" T-shirt the whole time. "Public Enemy" is political Hip Hop group that was at the peak of it's popularity at the time, yet totally anti esteblishment, which had a DJ called Terminator X.
OMG, you two ladies make these reactions so much fun, with your combination of heart, intelligence, and just the right amount of naivete. (Plus, you're easy on the eyes!) Rock on!
The thumbs up scene is still the saddest movie scene I’ve ever witnessed; it never fails to elicit a tear. Back when I was an unfeeling teenager boy, it was the only scene that made me emotional.
I really appreciate the love given to Michael Biehn. Especially by girls who understand the love story aspect of it. Watched a lot of these reactions and no one ever really mentions Kyle Reese. They always mention Linda Hamilton or Arnie but they never mention Biehn. Good to see that he still has that impact.
Fun fact: Cameron wanted Biehn as Terminator and Arnold as protector from the future, but Arnold loves the emotionless machine style and he said "All the people say that i cant act and i allways do the same face, and i have this accent. Give me the role to show all the critics that they are right. Less talking and allways the one face." Cameron and others says "When you play a machine and a that bad character who wants to kill many innocent people esp an innocent young woman your carreer will be finish, dont do that!" Arnold plays the machine and we all knows what happens next...
It's a shame that Biehn's scenes were cut from this movie, and only in the extended cut. It was a nice touch, although I appreciate that they wanted to make Sarah appear rather heart-less to start with.
T2 is such a masterpiece of a sequel. It builds on the first one perfectly, expands the characters and lore, and wraps it up with a bow in a satisfying manner. Too bad none of the other sequels could fully do that.
Fun fact: the second Sarah Connor in a few scenes (the playground, final battle with T1000) is played by Leslie Hamilton, Linda Hamilton's twin sister.
Actually not the only appearance in the movie either. In the cut scene where they remove his chip to turn on the learning switch the "mirror" in front wasn't a mirror at all since obviously you would have seen the camera. So the "Sarah" in the mirror was actually Leslie duplicating, in reverse, what Linda was doing.
And the scene with the security guard getting stabbed through the face by his doppelganger was another pair of twins. Clever and as good as any special effects could be, ever.
That scene where Sarah turns the corner while trying to break out of the hospital and comes face to face with the Terminator is one of the greatest scenes in cinema history. She doesn't turn around when she hears her sons voice because she knows the Terminator can mimic it. And then Arnold grabs that nurse by the face and throws her 😂😂😂😂
James Cameron actually made a Definitive Happy Ending for the series originally that's only in the director's cut. It shows John and his Mom with John's daughter at a playground experiencing a happy life together. Some said it was TOO HAPPY but i say considering all the crap sequels we got after 3 i'd say i'd rather it ended on a definitive Happy Ending.
To that I say, people miss the point. Have we stopped developing more advanced weapons? Have we stopped developing Artificial Intelligence? Have we stopped applying all that scientific knowledge towards military interests? "Judgment Day is inevitable, you've only postponed it" -T-800
@@WesMordine And I've never liked that interpretation because it completely ruins the "no fate but what we make" theme of T1 and T2. It essentially makes everything in the first two movies a pointless shaggy dog story because nothing that the protagonists do matters. People who think judgment day is inevitable are the ones who miss the point.
@@Wannabe_Baby idealistic. As individuals we have no fate but what we make for ourselves, but as the human race... well, a scene in T2 perfectly illustrates the point, when John Connor points out to the Terminator the two kids playing with guns. "It is in your nature to destroy yourselves", or something along those lines. As long as humankind works the way it does, a Judgment Day is inevitable.
One of my favorite things about this movie is the comeuppance from Silberman, who was also the guy who diagnosed Kyle as insane in the first film, because one of the things that he said in the first film was that he could make a career out of Kyle's story... and because he lost the chance to do it with Kyle, he made a career out of Sarah, and that's why he would never let her go; because he was using her to cement his position in the psychiatric world. He's absolutely disgusting for that, and I always practically scream with joy when I watch him see a Terminator doing something impossible, so he can watch his own entire world fall apart. So then one of my favorite things in the third film is that he goes from this guy who finally saw the Terminator, to a guy who is just as haunted as she is and has PTSD, and he has lost a lot of ground in his career and no longer runs a mental hospital. and is no longer this eminent psychiatrist; he's back to being like a police counselor type person, and he understands PTSD, sure, but it's just... after years of him tormenting Sarah and using her like that. to see him being brought down is awesome. He needed that the son of a b****. As a person who works in the Psychiatry field that character infuriates me beyond my ability to describe it. It's also really great to see the female character become so powerful and strong and self-sufficient. Ripley and Sarah Connor are the two female role models for a lot of us growing up, because it basically said that being a woman doesn't mean you have to be the Damsel in Distress, and that's awesome for us. Linda Hamilton really worked her butt off in this film and it shows. I also love how obvious it is that Robert Patrick did the most incredible amounts of conditioning as well in order to portray the liquid metal terminator. There's even a joke about it later on in The X-Files when he's on that show but that's another long story. It's also really cute to me the way they are obviously having way too much fun with early CGI; especially in that final scene where the T1000 melts in the foundry. They used in adapted version of the technology that started with the water tentacle NTI thing in The Abyss. Jim Cameron had a reputation from the first film where he was basically considered like this sort of... almost a rogue element in Hollywood, because he just went out and did guerilla filmmaking. The stuff like the Futurewar scenes that he filmed for that one, and all the insane stop-motion they had to use to do the first Terminator effect at the end of the first film, it really pays off when you see that he still pushing boundaries by doing things like The Abyss, and this movie, which was cutting edge state-of-the-art stuff when came out, and Titanic, and now the Avatar films. He's always been at the forefront / leading edge of all of visual FX, and hats off to him for it. He never allows anything to be considered impossible. He always makes his vision come true, and as such he is very admired by those of us who grew up around the film industry
It’s actually really interesting that you guys got to experience the which-terminator-is-the-good-one as intended. The trailers for the movie spoiled it back in the day

You have to give a lot of credit to Robert Patrick, his performance made the T-1000 an intimidating villain despite being half of Arnold's size.
I like his guest appearance in Wayne's World.
Robert Patrick before this movie fought the great wong Cheng li on screen.. Was very strange and rare.
The fact that he trained himself to fire guns without blinking or flinching to up the creep/inhuman factor is top-notch.
@@ThammuzBabylonHe also trained to run by only breathing through his nose which I've been told is quite tough too.
The advertising really screwed that up the first time.
Yes, very satisfying to watch them work through this point.
amen to all this above!!!🦾🦾🦾🙏
Same for me! I only felt that when I first saw the film in 1993!
Yes, very true. And the same thing happened with The Matrix when they pioneered bullet time, among other new special effects.
Actually people got a preview if they saw Cameron's previous film The Abyss which also used effects similar to the T-1000.
Yep all special effects was never seen anywhere
I was kinda shocked to find out many years later that the silver bullet holes when the T-1000 would get shot WEREN'T computer graphics.
@@radleycarter8521 Wow, interesting.
31 years since this came out and the effects still kick ass
100%
yup. they set the standard for that period.
Did you know Terminator 2 is actually a true story based on my life?
This movie will always be best
Keep in mind, the helicopter chase stunt at the bridge was real, no CGI. One of a kind!
I think James Cameron said "The pilot asked how close you wanna get, and I joked 6 feet and he was like, ok"
James Cameron had to film the helicopter bridge scene himself because all the other camera operators refused too, given how many ways the stunt could've gone wrong
Hell yeah
@Kristopher Chavez All he had to do was confidently say he was Kevin Costner. That works too. ;)
And he had to do it twice.
Fun fact: When the T-1000 was doubling Sarah Connor, rather than use special effects they just brought in Linda Hamilton's identical twin sister Leslie Hamilton.
Same with the extended edition where they open Arnie's head to reset the learning switch.
R.I.P. Leslie Hamilton.
It's also her in park scene
Also the twin security guards getting coffee and the floor.
Also the doubled security guards where the T-1000 comes from being the floor and one gets killed at the pop machine. . Those guys are also twins.
Wow.
Oh wow I knew about the guards, but didn't know Linda had a sister. Poor lady day unexpectedly in 2020 too
There's also a deleted scene that occurs when the Terminator talks about his ability to learn & become human.
@@elcid1390 Sarah Connor Chronicles was good throughout

Almost like he studied Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith in The Matrix 🙌🏽
@@Scum_Dup Very impressive to study something 8 years before it happened.

Arnold being a good guy was meant to be a surprise. It's so cool that you got to experience that twist.
If it wasn't ,they shouldn't have spoiled it so hard in the promo material.
and I thought Arnold originally wanted to play Kyle Reese (and auditioned for that role) in the first film.
Also fired that Beretta without flinching.
Robert Patrick was awesome. Still is.

T2 is an absolute classic. You actually care about the characters. You FEEL something at the end. So good.
I kinda forgot how SCARY this movie is when you see it first time.

The nuke nightmare scene hit different for a lot of people when this movie came out, because the generations that watched it lived through the cold war, where they were always afraid of nuclear strikes.
The scene visualized the scenario for them.
And it's one of the most realistic nuclear explosions ever made for film - it's even been used for training in the forces.
It still gives me nightmares now😨
I watched that as a kid and I think it traumatised me lol
The very first thing Reese said to Sarah, and the only way future-john knew Sarah would go with the terminator.
No paradox... well, not for this part, anyway. ;-]
Note: Of course, this is not in the film, but it makes sense that it would have happened off camera. There is no other reason for the T100 to have used exactly those words. @@calibre97 nope T2 is the end. Better to stop there. We do not discuss further Terminator movies.
@@falxonPSN No, I get it. Trust me. Not a bad thing to never see #3. Just saying it's also not the WORST thing to see it. That's all.

In T3 there is no Chip but the Humans invent skynet anyway so judgement day happens inevitable. The Events of T1 where the Chip left accelerate the invention of Skynet and the Events of T2 just correct the timeline.

This whole scene rocked me to the core when I was about 10! I was like, so this is how the world ends. 😐 lol
Not to mention, the toy commercials.
Not sure if you gals picked up on the fact that when Arnold says to Sarah, "Come with me if you want to live", he was actually quoting Reese. It's a nice hat tip to Reese and the very worlds Sarah would need to hear in order to trust Arnold. ;)
The interesting thing is that the only way for him to know to say that is if Sarah told John at some point. So in a way, he's quoting her.

Cameron thought that it was clear enough that humanity had won and averted the apocalypse so he changed to the shot of the road with a similar narration, as a way of showing that humanity had an open road in their future.
i do like the third movie and how it showed the future happened somehow even though they thought they had changed things

Ah yes, the 80’s and early 90’s. where we had toys for movies we weren’t even legally allowed to watch yet. Good times😂
Even after 30 years, the limited amount of CGI still holds up in this film. And the stunts are all freaking INCREDIBLE.
All of the stunts with the copys of the guard and Sarah was using twins. Including Linda Hamiltons sister.
In the first take he did catch the bike.
Fun little fact. Linda Hamilton trained with Arnold Schwarzenegger for about six months for this movie. He was her personal trainer, they worked out together. She had eat what he ate, and do the same exercises he did.
You can tell!
She is as lean, mean and ready to go as a woman can get! 😎👍
2 movies and the Sarah Connor Chronicles
I agree, It's best to just think of this as the end of the story and forget about the rest that followed. It was all downhill from here.
That’s really a good way to recommend ending a series! Also because it’s true!

Yes. Hearing the Terminator's music in the background as she walks into the house armed and going for blood is so chilling...
Great observation. And then she was ultimately unable to overcome her human programming.
A lot of people think that the scene with the T-1000 chasing after John Connor on the bike is weird with how fast he's running, but the truth is Robert Patrick was actually so fast, he was catching up to Edward Furlong too easily, so they had to tell him to slow down!

Less talking and allways the one face." Cameron and others says "When you play a machine and a that bad character who wants to kill many innocent people esp an innocent young woman your carreer will be finish, dont do that!" What sequels?
Fun fact: the second Sarah Connor in a few scenes (the playground, final battle with T1000) is played by Leslie Hamilton, Linda Hamilton's twin sister.
Leslie Passed away Suddenly, on August 22nd of this year... RIP.

@@WesMordine But the point is that Sarah, John, Miles and the T-800 defy that.
