I will admit reasons 3 an 4 are speculative in nature, but as logical as this movie is.
Your comment, "Why is she going after the cat?....Have we not learned in every movie not to do this..." Remember, this is 1979 and this is the movie we learned it from 🤣🤣
And the "stupid robot" ASH was not stupid. He was following orders to bring the Alien back to corporate for analysis (and profit) even if the Alien kills the entire human crew.
Let’s be honest: this was Dan O’Bannon’s baby. Same guy who wrote and directed The Return of the Living Dead(1985), and wrote Total Recall (1990). Those are two gems you could watch with your sister if you haven’t reacted to them yet.
This is the first Alien reaction video with a female reactor who wasn’t far more worried about the fate of the cat than about the fate of crew! The rest are like “get the kitty!”. Cassie is like “just get out and blow up the ship!”
Alien is one of the most perfect movies ever made. Perfect cast, perfect direction, perfect story, perfect score, etc... No CGI. Very hard to find flaws in it. And it's still good after all these years. BTW, when the alien explodes out of Kane, Veronica Cartwright's (Lambert) reaction was authentic, she wasn't acting. A pressure line that sprayed blood shot blood right into her face and she legitimately freaked. I loved her character because her fear seems so real. Fantastic performance by everyone.
An interesting fact about Lambert’s death and the nature of what took place, the subject of where the aliens tail was going has always been one people wondered about. Turns out if you watch the second movie and view closely at Lambert’s file, you’ll discover she was transgender. The alien you can learn from various media has no eyes and relies on scent and sound fro most of its sensory skills when killing. People have wondered why the alien violated Lambert the way it did and some fans theorize that it sensed Lambert was different and the mutilation of her genital area may confirm the alien was interested in her anatomy and why she was unique compared to its other victims. This is just a fan theory but terrifying to think of.
@@shanelogan630 Oh BULLSH**! Ridley Scott stated that both Ripley and Lambert were both originally cast as males, but decided to make them both females later on in the casting. Lambert was a female, period. Do I need to explain what a female is to you? Trans-whatever was not a thing till five minutes ago. It wasn't even a word in 1979. What James Cameron wrote in her file in 1986 was just to make the character interesting. They were goofing around. Ridley Scott himself has stated on camera that Lambert was sexually violated because she was a female. He raised the question of whether aliens have sexual urges. He said those exact words. The alien had grown inside a male.

Oh wow your uncle KILLED IT on this movie, the special effects are out of this world good. I hadn't seen the movie in a long time and seeing it during this reaction really had me gasping in shock in some places because of how REAL everything looked. The face-hugger to me is still probably THE greatest practical effect of all time. It looks like a true organic creature.
Jon please thank your uncle for having a huge part in showing me a movie that I would never forget. I watched it at the Cinema and from the first minute of the opening credits to the final fade out I was totally immersed. The special effects along with the cinematography and direction made this completely unbelievable movie very very real. Tell him that if we ever meet I owe him a beer.
The first time I seen Alien, I was 15. I snuck out of the house with two friends. When the movie was over the buses where done running for the night. The three of us had to walk home in the dark about 5 miles. On that journey we had to go through a large hobo area, in a railroad yard. To this day, that was the most terrifying walk in my life.
Awesome but I can top that (maybe). I was maybe 12 and saw the first Terror on Elm Street. Then I had to walk home alone. I come out and there is a thick fog with rays from the lights just like in the dreams. For a section I also had to walk through the forest. That was scary.
Alien is the better film but at the same time Aliens is great as the first of the space marine type film. They are totally different in look and feel but do work well together and are both classics
It’s a testament of how good the film is! - 40 years later, the viewer gets drawn into its world, hooked by the story and score and still shocking people to this today - No CGI effects, all in-camera! - No wonder it’s considered THE seminal Sci-Fi film 😀👍👍 (the thing a very close second)
Yes, your right to a degree - The Thing was based on a 1951 movie called “The Thing From Another World” which itself was based on a 1938 novella called “Who Goes There?”
@@Hiraghm And Jaws was basically the proof of concept for not showing the monster much in movies that followed it like in this. A happy accident due to technical issues with the mechanical shark.
I don’t really like the term jump scares when applied to these films, because typically what constitutes something frightening you suddenly in these films is actually scary. There’s only a few fake outs, like with the cat.
@@nickmanzo8459 There's at least 3 good ones in the film, (Dallas knocking over the trays, and 2 involving the cat) but, yes, I totally agree, the amount of tension generated as the film grinds towards its climax is off the dial even for a modern film, let alone one that's 40-odd years old...
The Shining 1980 rules them all. It's total mind*uck of a movie. It could not get better then an evil sinister presence hidden between the walls of the Overlook hotel which slowly corrupts Jack Torrance.
To be fair, the scene in Signs where they're hiding in the basement is pretty damn creepy. I think that's the only time I had difficulty sleeping after seeing a movie. (Alien doesn't count; I was having nightmares about it years before I was old enough to see it.)
THIS is how you make and portray a strong female character. Whenever people say that we need more strong female leads I always revert back to Alien, T2, Xena and many others.
Ripley cant be compared with T2 (Sarah Connor) and Xena ; maybe with the Sarah Connor of T1. Ripley isnt a ''hero'' , or ''strong'' by definition. She is only a ''deliverer'' of cargo. All of the crewmembers were only kind of ''truck-drivers of the future''. They weren't super strong, or super smart. They were guys like you and me - average guys... dirty... just minding their own small lifes .Thats why we can relate so much to these characters. Ripley didnt really 'fought' this monster (at least not in Alien 1). She ran away... she was scared like hell (like all of us, and like all the crew members). And when she shoot in the end to the Alien it was much more a reflex ..as well when she opened the hatch in a moment of ''scared movement'' ... It was sheer luck , that her instincts lead to 'win' that thing. All the others had also their survival instincts but because of the circumstances they losed their lives. Ripley was aware of that,... She only tried to survive... thats all. There was no ''smart'' plan... The whole movie was about ''panicing'' and ''losing the mind'' in front of a superior creature. Thats total different to Xena or Sarah Connor (T2). Sarah Connor (T2) is very focused and even protective about her son - she is a lion , with muscles, and weapons. Same goes for Xena. Those are heros , like Wonderwoman, etc .... Ripley (Alien 1) was intelligent, but also very female , and just with her own small life. I like her that way ... And Aliens (second part) portrays her much more like a hero... When she burns the eggs even if she dont have too. She isnt really afraid anymore ... instead she provokes the Alien Queen ''come, fight me''... Its the typical action movie... And thats the reason, why Alien (1979) still has his unique charme - because its not like every other ''Alien-Action''-movie , or ''Hero-action-movie'' ... Its a kind of its own...
@@PygmalionFaciebat Because she developed as a character and she was still afraid as hell in the beginning, and everyone would piss their pants in the same situation, man or woman. Ripley was inherently stronger than Sarah connor, she was a Lieutenant and second in command in the Nostromo, military or not she was still trained in the basics. Sarah was just an ordinary young woman working as a waitress with no training and facing something that was superior but at the same time not beyond "familiarity" It is also unreasonable to compare any of them to Xena considering she was a warrior princess.
@@DarknessIsThePath Yes i think you are right. Ripley is probably comparable with a crew-member of a cargo-ship today. She probably had some basic background about dangerous situations , in fact she had to be familiar with selfdestruction protocolls , decompression failures, handling a space suit, navigation, quarantene protocolls, etc etc.. As you pointed it out correct: Sarah was in that sense ''naked'' .. she was 16 (according to the movie), and had the most ordinary job possible. She also mentioned she even struggles to manage the balance on her credit cards - and she seems to live with her girlfriend in the same apartment. She really had to grow from scratch. And yes - she is definetely not comparable with Xena , a warrior princess.
The scariest part of this film to me is when Dallas is in the ducts, specifically when he starts to lose his cool and panic and just wants to get back out. It's understated panic and you can see it building.
I'll drink to that, that was one of the movie's most claustrophobic, nerve-wracking scenes..... "It's moving toward you, get out of there! NOOO! Not that way, the other way!"
Such a legendary film. This movie was a landmark in filmmaking history because the major studios that produced the movies and put them in theaters didn’t believe Sci-Fi could be scary. As you experienced, it’s literally one of the scariest movies of all time! Even in the 2020’s, the movie holds up relatively well for a movie made in the 70’s!
I've seen a LOT of Alien reaction videos and this is the first where I've ACTUALLY felt sorry for the person watching it! I think this actually traumatized her!
When my little sister was 9 years old I paid her $10 to watch this with me. She made it to the scene where they're trying to get the facehugger off and it tightens around Kane's neck. She threw the money at me and ran upstairs lol
@@w41duvernay When she was about 25 years old she went with me to see the theatrical re-release of the director's cut. Still didn't like it lol. But she stayed to the end.
Even though sequels were made, I still think the original film is the best. Especially because it is so small-scale (as you've said, just a single spaceship) and very grounded. An ordinary crew facing an utterly vile, extraordinary monstrosity. Sigourney Weaver was the unknown newcomer in the cast back when this premiered in 1979, so her being the last survivor was actually meant as a surprise ending for the audience. :-)
The facehugger has disappeared, and the crew don't know where it is. Cassie: "Oh, you guys, there's a baby alien wondering about!" Everyone: Err... it's _so_ much worse than that....
"I´m hoping that it´s not too scary." - Well, there is that famous scene, where they are all sitting at a table eating, someone says "What´s the matter? The food ain´t that bad Baby." - And then ...
I wonder about the sequels, but Alien has a slower build-up to the Finale compared to the more action filled sequels. I recommend to skip Event Horizon.
"It's like having a mouse in your room and not being able to leave... but like a thousand times worse." I think that was what Ridley Scott was aiming for when he made the film, so absolutely nailed it 😆

Fun fact: in the scene where they first discover the dead alien seated at the console, those were kids in spacesuits. They did that so the entire set and the dead alien looked much larger than they actually were.
I saw this when it debuted in 1979 as a senior in college. Back then the ONLY way to see a first-run movie was in a theater with a giant screen and great sound. No breaks, no escape from the carnage.

My favourite film of all time. Every detail of this movie is exemplary. From the carbon dioxide expelled from the astronauts helmets, the dripping water on the peak of Brett's cap, and the electronic voice of Ash's disembodied head. Even though it's a slow build, not a second is wasted, and it portrays the hopelessness of isolation unmatched in cinematic history.
A little late to the party and don't know if anyone mentioned, but during the chestburster scene, John Hurt was the only cast member to actually know what was fully going to happen. None of the others knew a thing cause they wanted to capture the casts genuine reactions to it. So them acting terrified is real.
The reason Ash is an android is so that the alien doesn't infect and kill him. This is to ensure there is someone who can survive and oversee the ship throughout its journey back. All the other crew are essentially food to keep the alien alive while it's transported back to earth.
This implies that the company already knew about the alien prior to getting the warning signal and purposely sent the crew, which isn't the case and has never been established as such.
@@caribbeanman3379 Ash being an android has nothing to do with the alien. They are returning from their work voyage when they encounter the signal. When they do encounter the signal the crew is considered expendable. To state that Ash is an android so that he doesn't get infected would imply that the knew how the Alien species infected people. This is clearly not the case.
I convinced my wife to name our daughter Ripley if that is any indication of how much of love this series and Sigourney Weavers character, she's a badass.

@@JohnSmith-jn7nc I actually get it more than most people; I understand what Kubrick was trying to get across and it was incompetent. He made a psychological thriller about cabin fever from a book which states multiple times, directly, that what is happening is not psychological at all but actually malevolent action by the Overlook itself. Kubrick always felt himself superior to the material he worked with but actually never was. His technical brilliance tends to overshadow the fact that he frequently failed to do the stories justice. In 1980 I was seven years old. HBO was a new thing. Cable TV in my neighborhood was new. We got a cable hook up and Alien was playing on HBO that month. I had no idea what it was. Back then you could barely even tell the genre of movie before you started watching it. I remember getting to the part where the chest burster comes out before my mom got me the heck out of there and turned it off. I wasn’t exactly scared, but I was very interested in finding out what was going on in that movie. Many years later I was able to actually watch it.
I had a similar experience. My mum loves all things Sci-Fi and I remember being a young lad and sneaking out of my room after bedtime to see the films she was watching.
One of the coolest horror movies ever. Imagine a humanoid and insect derivative with no remorse or feeling, just eating prey and having "babies". The scene of leaving the Nostromo after landing to search for the source of the SOS, to me was so realistic and frightening. The static, the communication drop outs, the uncertainty of what is going on... You are in for it, Popcorn.
And the design of the movie is great. One person designed the Nostromo, and another person designed the alien derelict so that the ships would look different. The alien derelict looks as if it was grown rather than built, with the ribs on the walls and the vaginal airlocks.
I first saw Alien a long time ago and I knew the iconic chest bursting scene was coming. Watching you react to it for the first time made me wish I could've watched it without knowing about it so it could've had more of a surprise/impact.
I love your genuine display of concern, fear, and disgust. I also commend you on being the very first person to make note of Parker’s line, “I wanna go home and party.” It’s one of my favorite lines in the film, but everyone tends to not notice it. Amazing reaction video
@@ephennell4ever Yeah, I was kind of expecting something like that myself. But kudos to this young lady for sticking it out until the end - the most suspenseful, nervous-system-destructive movie ever made.

The terror you felt throughout the movie, is the terror us normal folk would probably be feeling in that circumstance. Ripley's ability to deal with that terror and navigate the ignorance, stupidity, deceit and also the Alien, is why she's firmly placed among the badasses in my pantheon of cinematic heroes.

I will admit reasons 3 an 4 are speculative in nature, but as logical as this movie is.

Perfect… organism.

The first time I seen Alien, I was 15. I snuck out of the house with two friends. When the movie was over the buses where done running for the night. The Thing I thought was just a reboot of Alien but in the Antarctic. A bit like the Abyss was like Close Encounters and ET under the sea.
Yes, your right to a degree - The Thing was based on a 1951 movie called “The Thing From Another World” which itself was based on a 1938 novella called “Who Goes There?”

Mrs. peel from the Avengers started in 1965 but no one chooses to remember any movies or tv shows that are more than 5 years old
Ripley cant be compared with T2 (Sarah Connor) and Xena ; maybe with the Sarah Connor of T1.
Sarah was just an ordinary young woman working as a waitress with no training and facing something that was superior but at the same time not beyond "familiarity"
It is also unreasonable to compare any of them to Xena considering she was a warrior princess.
@@PygmalionFaciebat It's very much a horror movie, in that respect.
The scariest part of this film to me is when Dallas is in the ducts, specifically when he starts to lose his cool and panic and just wants to get back out. It's understated panic and you can see it building.
He's like... hmm... this was a bad idea. Yep, nope, I'm getting out.

Imagine seeing this at 17 ... They managed to keep the look of the alien a secret until it came out .... and it was truly horrifying!!
*sees that Cassie's next vid is Alien* Ohboyohboyohboy, this is gonna be one to watch!
Cassie: "I have had a day... " Oh damn...!
Cassie: "I kind of hope it's... like a fun alien comedy, kind of like Ghostbusters?" Oh you sweet child! 😬
Well, at least now you know three important truths: 1. Always listen to Ripley, 2) never eat just before bedtime, because those stomach cramps can kill ya, and 3) be suspicious of our movie suggestions!
Well, some films you don't 'enjoy' as much as just 'experience'. But please listen to your peeps and see the sequel called Aliens (1986) by James Cameron as well. It is worth it.
It’s so freakin' fun to see someone watch Alien for the first time....
"Let's make her watch 'Alien'". Well, you just learned that your viewers are sadists.
It does seem like a lot of people get recommended movies like this for that reason.
Well you got to watch Alien before you watch one the best action movies of all time. Aliens.
I mean, half the fun of watching reacting UA-camrs is seeing them get scared by the parts that scared all of us at one time or another
fr we need to keep her the hell away from Schindler’s List or anything made by Ari Aster lmao
I've been saying this since The Sixth Sense.
FORTY TWO years ago already! 1979. STILL holds up! No mobile devices. Future kind of internet/facetime. CLASSIC!
"They should have listened to her! (Ripley)"
That's true of the entire series. :)
@@jonathanw1019 It is the case. Didn't you see the readout on the computer about obtaining the specimen and saying that the crew is expendable?
@@caribbeanman3379 Ash being an android has nothing to do with the alien. They are returning from their work voyage when they encounter the signal. When they do encounter the signal the crew is considered expendable. To state that Ash is an android so that he doesn't get infected would imply that the knew how the Alien species infected people. This is clearly not the case.
@@gymratt17 Why was Ash's being an android not divulged to the rest of the crew?
This is probably the dumbest theory about the movie I've seen.
I convinced my wife to name our daughter Ripley if that is any indication of how much of love this series and Sigourney Weavers character, she's a badass.
Well, technically it's Ellen, but Ripley is an awesome name
@@J4ME5_ well yeah it's Ellen but Ripley is vastly cooler.
Do her friends call her “Rip” for a nickname? That would be extremely cool.
@@danl.909 I call her Rip all the time but she's only a year and a half old. I hope when she gets older and has a group of friends that they do!
That's freaking awesome!
"The scariest movie I've seen is Signs."
...I think we are about to have a new winner.
"I'm a little worried about those other hundreds of eggs that were down there." Foreshadow of the century.
Alien + Aliens (the sequel) are a couple of the best creature-features of all time.
The third movie is pretty meh, but its the fourth one that ticks me off, with the whole cloning thing.
One of my all time favorite horror/sci-fi movies along with The Thing and The Exorcist. BTW, RIP Harry Dean Stanton (Brett), Ian Holm (Ash), and most recently Yaphet Kotto (Parker).
I agree. These are pretty much the trinity of good horror movies
@@JasonHauser125 And the Shining 1980.
@@JohnSmith-jn7nc No. The book was great. Kubrick failed to live up to it.
@@jamiegagnon6390 I'm pretty sure the book was great because I saw the mini-series which is faithful adaptation of the novel and I enjoyed it a lot.
Speaking of the Kubrick's adaptation. He didn't failed at adapting the novel because he wasn't even trying to. Kubrick's version is a different story and the classic horror movie in my opinion. You just don't get it.
Try watching Barry Lyndon some time.
Wow, that's probably one of the most dramatic, yet real reactions I've ever seen to someone watching my favourite movie of all time,
definitely leaving a like :)
Then there's my reaction to the full-grown alien. "Jazz hands!"
Aliens next. If Alien is a haunted house horror movie Aliens is an action horror movie.
I still have scars on my leg from my GF at the time, finger nails digging into my leg, almost the whole movie.. 😂🤣😂😂
I first started watching Aliens when I was 14. Alone in the house in already dark winter early evening. Was holding and pushing myself in the chair up until Bishop crawling that small tube for the antenna and then I just turned the thing off, was too scary. Watched many times fully when 18+ years, but I will remember that first time forever.
@@mojeimja Cameron made prob the two best sequels ever, Aliens, and Terminator 2.

Cassie went through an ORDEAL with this one xD I feel terrible for saying it was absolutely hilarious for me as someone who's watched Alien oh so many times
Great reaction, the jump scares still working for modern audience. I watched this when I was 13, sat with a cold sweat for 2hrs it scared the living hell out of me.
UA-cam threw a commercial just as the facehugger jumped out of the egg. Possibly the best timing ever.
I just remembered an alien movie that you would probably enjoy since it's a comedy and also stars Sigourney Weaver. It's called _Galaxy Quest_ and it's super funny.
Galaxy Quest is considered by many to be the best Star Trek film ever made. ;)

“I have ONE job, it’s STUPID! but I’m going to do it!”
I saw it alone eight years old on VHS in the nineties - did it affect me? Probably :D
I am so sorry if this was difficult for you. THANK YOU for letting us watch your reaction - it was so much fun!
This is a great movie about the struggle of a lone infant against 6 aliens all trying to kill it.
Yep, Sigourney Weaver plays the most dangerous creature in the movie...
From the Aliens perspective, this movie is Die Hard.
Illegal Aliens face great struggles in trying to move to a better neighborhood.
Technically 5 aliens and a robot who admires it
So Baby's Day Out In Space?
“That was my first, possibly last sci-fi horror!”
I casually glance at the que, and her viewing of Aliens is next…
I first saw Alien a long time ago and I knew the iconic chest bursting scene was coming. Watching you react to it for the first time made me wish I could've watched it without knowing about it so it could've had more of a surprise/impact.
"I hope it's not a scary movie" *proceeds to watch what is hailed as probably the scariest movie of all time*
Nope that's _Invasion of the Body Snatchers_
Nope, that's The Exorcist.
Today she is a woman.
Not the scariest, but one of the BEST scary movies. It's aged so well and is so pure.
@@ravissary79 Can't go wrong with a haunted house in space!
I love your genuine display of concern, fear, and disgust. I also commend you on being the very first person to make note of Parker’s line, “I wanna go home and party.” It’s one of my favorite lines in the film, but everyone tends to not notice it. Amazing reaction video
I'm halfway through this reaction and my only thought is, "This woman is gonna die of a heart attack..."
@@ephennell4ever Yeah, I was kind of expecting something like that myself. But kudos to this young lady for sticking it out until the end - the most suspenseful, nervous-system-destructive movie ever made.
The physical and facial reactions of the actors when the alien bursts out of John Hurt’s chest are genuine as the director didn’t tell them what was going to happen.
Definitely. Whatever you are up to, you want a Ripley on your team
This is one of best reaction videos ever on a classic movie. Hope you have the nerve for the sequel-which is one of best movies of all time.
Oh hell yes! I love how sweet her demeanor is. It's like watching a 12 year girl watching scary films the first time :)
My 10-year-old niece gets less scared..
This is a prototypical female reaction to horror. After I got married, I discovered that if I try to show my wife a horror movie, after about 10 minutes, she says, "Why do you show me movies like this?"
@@brandonflorida1092 I feel your exact pain
@@Pinkielover was going to say the same about my 9 year old daughter... this kind of reaction is utterly fascinating to me, on every level, that a grown adult can take a movie so seriously, as if it's actually happening to them irl, lol
