Kevin Peter Hall, who played the alien Predator, also played the Bigfoot, Harry, in Harry and the Hendersons. He also had a recurring role on the 80's TV sitcom, Night Court. He was a nearly 7 foot tall, African American actor, who also had a cameo as the helicopter pilot in the rescue chopper that rescues Dutch at the end of the film. Sadly, Kevin is no longer with us, as he passed away decades ago. I believe, he also portrayed the Predator again in the sequel, Predator 2. From what I've heard he was one of the kindest, friendliest people you could ever meet.
A perfectly taut action thriller, a last minute change to a creature design, and we get one of the greatest monsters ever created in film history. Wonderful movie.
@@w1975b The head did. I finally saw the footage of the red thingy running through the jungle. Unfortunately, we don't have Stan here to clarify now on anything else. All I know now is that Stan Winston was a bloody master in creature design and we have him to thank for so many great memories!

His response was because that is the point where people get get so creeped out they get up and leave. He said 90% of the members of the audience can't last the whole movie.
Billy was always my favorite character in this movie not only was he a Indian tracker but it’s like he could sense the predator on a spiritual level… and he stood in the end face to face with the devil like a man
Billys' Death was going to be a mighty knife fight with the Predator on the log bridge, But for some reason it didn't happen. But it's because of the fight with Billy that the Predator was stroking his skull as Billy was a Worthy adversary and a trophy of note.
He also understood the predator's concept of honor, and made sure to deny it first blood, which signifies a challenge to single combat, warrior to warrior, instead of hunter to prey
A UA-cam channel named Corridor recently tested the theory that mud does _not_ mask the thermal signature of a person. They used cheap thermal imagers to really expensive ones. Spoiler alert: their theory was proven wrong with all thermal imagers they used. A person covered in mud was undetectable while attempting to locate them with the imagers exactly how this film depicted. The only person who was able to locate the test subject was the dog they had with them.
The respect Cassie has for Billy is adorable 🙂 Btw, the actor playing Billy, Sonny Landham, was not a very friendly guy. During shooting, he had a bodyguard to protect others FROM him. He was known to be violent and short tempered.
My friends and I came to theatre to watch whatever was available. Predator was just out and about to start. None of us knew anything about it, other than what was on poster. Figured it was another "commando" type movie with Arnold. We were so surprised and blown away by this movie, so much better than some of the others Arnold had been making. Just a happy memory of friends all together talking and excited about movie afterward.
You must see SILENT HOUSE. It is the most terrifying film in human history. Most people don`t have the guts to deal with this film. If you have a channel, you should do a reaction to this horror film. No one yet has had the guts to do a reaction. It is a hard film to get through due to the jump scares and the horror of being left alone in a boarded up house with no electricity and realizing that someone or something is in the house with you. You have only a flashlight to guide you through this terror. If you think you have the guts to watch this film, please do a reaction to it.
I love this movie. The plot swerves unexpectedly from a rescue mission into a monster movie with such graceful plot movement without losing an ounce of risk.
I consider this one of Arnold's most layered performances, and maybe his first as a protagonist with a lot of depth. Dutch is so used to machinery and brute force, but has to reach back to more primal methods and instincts in order to face the Predator.
You owe it to yourself to rewatch this classic in the remastered 4K version on a 70" tv screen! It looks like they filmed it last year, that's how great the 4K quality is.
I saw it on a Saturday night on HBO probably at 7:00 pm, shortly after it had been released to movie channels. I was either 12 or 13. My mother and I spent weekends at her boyfriend's apartment and he had cable, we didn't. I also watched Aliens for the first time by myself on HBO, after they had gone to sleep.
The Cassism of saying I can't watch, while covering her mouth and going b-b-b-b ... while NOT covering/closing her eyes... is so Cassie. Adorable. I watched this pre re upload... and still enjoyed. Every sound the predator makes is mimicry of the team/humans. even the laugh. Predator is a "trophy hunter" it wants the best prey, and you said it yourself, Dutch and team are the best.
This is probably your most adorable reaction video. The scream when the trap goes off halfway through the movie, your grossed out reactions to how the Predator looks, your little comments like "does it want to eat them?" and "let's not let it push buttons", lol. This was so fun.
Huge respect to the director John McTiernan. He did just a few movies, but they were awesome. Predator, Die Hard,Hunt for the Red October, Die hard with a vengeance. Those are cinematic gems.
...and another thing: this is the perfect movie "why?" because McTiernan (one of the best action directors, in the vein of James Cameron) decided to drop the audience, along with the "crew" right smack dab in the middle of the fun, without telling us a thing about the creature. Genius film-making. A action/horror movie where the audience has to play along and guess "what the what?" We have to play the detectives and action heroes along with the crew. Who gets it next. But your reactions are money!!!
You can thank James Cameron and Stan Winston for coming up with the Predator creature. The original design was really silly looking and was played by - Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Van Damme was just in the SFX costume, which was some blue foam thing. The actual creature was going to be superimposed. He was fresh off the plane and it wasn't explained to him how it worked and he thought the "monster" was stupid.
@@Cheepchipsable The original suit was indeed stupid looking and they also shot him in a prototype monster costume as well as the red effects suit. Many of the shots with the redesigned Stan Winston creature were 2nd unit as they had already filmed a lot of the cast footage that had nothing to do with interacting directly with the creature.
The Predator is a trophy hunter. He hunts for sport. Like hunters use duck calls, he's able to mimick his prey to lure them in. At the end, the laugh is him mimicking Billy's laugh. As well, he fights Arnold one-on-one without his weapons because he sees Arnold as a worthy challenge.
You should react to more Arnold Schwarzenegger films… "Conan the Barbarian", "Conan the Destroyer", "Commando", "Twins", "Total Recall", "Kindergarten Cop", "True Lies" 🎥🍿
"That's going to haunt my nightmares!" Uh, you haven't seen it yet. That's just its mask. This is such a great movie for building suspense and tension. The shot of the Predator falling invisible into the water behind Arnold is just classic.
mac's performance was the backbone of the film in my opinion, i never appreciated how vital his performance was until i saw a few reactions of the film.
Predator affected me as a kid. I saw it when I was 6 and there was thick forest behind my house. The amount of times my child's mind saw the camouflaged predator in the tree line.
My favorite character, aside from Billy, was Mac. Great script defines the friendship between Mac and Blaine without so much as a montage. Toasting to his "bro" with a flask and declaring what he would do to avenge his death...brilliant writing. Then the desperation Mac shows when he finally "corners' his prey. So well written and one of my favorite scenes of the movie.
Dutch was orginally supposed to win the hand to hand fight with the Predator because that's what people expect Arnold Schwarzenegger to do, but it was Arnold himself who said "I can't beat him. He's a monster. I'm just a man," and so it was rewritten with Dutch having to rely his expertise in unconventional warfare to survive. I think that alteration elevated the movie, and it made a stark contrast with the fragile overblown ego contemporary action star Steven Seagal who wouldn't even allow any of the jokes to be at his expense when he hosted Saturday Night Live. Speaking of which, I've never seen any YT reactor react to a Steven Seagal movie. As obnoxious as he was he was big deal in the martial arts action genre back in the day. Even more of an oversight, I've never seen anyone react to a Chuck Norris movie or a Jet Li movie. Of course, they wouldn't be sweet Cassie's cup of tea, but I bet Ashleigh Burton or You Me And The Movies would enjoy them.
I heard the alien ship in the beginning was a studio decision. It is a masterpiece no matter. But imagine you are going in expecting (and getting for the first 30 minutes) a rather typical 80s military action. And than the predator comes out of nowhere. Would have been so much better still.
I think you have a good point but I don't think the intro quite ruins it because it's just short and mysterious enough you don't know exactly what happened. Also it plays on the audience forgetting that part until we start seeing something supernatural. It's like how Romeo and Juliet starts with the chorus telling the audience "a pair of star-crossed lovers take their life" and then by the time you get to the end of the play nobody remembered that line and it's still shocking.
You singing "Deck the Halls" made my day... Thanks Cassie! The alien was in the spaceship coming to Earth at the very beginning of the movie. The "evil laugh" was Billy's laugh at the very end there. This made it even more disturbing to me. Billy's stand on the log was him with his medicine bag, cutting his chest to deny his opponent the "honor" of first blood. Unfortunately, he knew it was hopeless. Those end credits are classic. There's a great video proving that they can be mashed with the virtually any 80's sitcom theme song. ua-cam.com/video/UvhTyzMnjAk/v-deo.html
Billy was awesome! He knew he was gonna die but being an Indian, he chose to fight his enemy face to face with a knife instead of a gun to the death. I wished they would've shown the fight sequence. I'm sure Billy would've given him a good fight and died like a warrior sacrificing himself for his friends.
Predator 2 is also worth a watch. Different location/set-up and cast. You wondered when this film was set - essentially 'present day', late 80's for the first one, the 2nd one is meant to be 'near future'.
“He’s killing them so easy ….” It only seemed easy because the Predator was smart. He studied them before he acted. He waited until they were separated and took out the biggest and most heavily-armed soldier first, which was Blaine. After that, he carefully took the rest out individually, when he had the right opportunity. If he had taken on the squad as a group, they probably would have killed the Predator first.
Only because Hawkins was technically the most OP character in the cast(He was played by author/screenwriter Shane Black) so he needed to die first to prevent plot armor. 😁
@@johnlloyddy7016 The producers hired Black mostly to help work on the film’s script. He said no so they did away with his character prematurely then kicked him to the curb.
Cool trivia: this came out in 1987. Arnold became governor of California in 2003, and "Blain" (the guy with the big machine gun, played by Jesse Ventura) became governor of Minnesota in 1998.
I learned the other day that Sonny Lindham (the actor for Billy) ran in 2008 for Governor of Kentucky first as a libertarian, then later as an independent on a hard-right platform.
@@robbob5302 I'm not so sure which way it would have gone. Jesse Ventura was one of the first SEALs, and he's known to be a genuine tough guy (although not anymore, of course).

Right in the middle of the famous bullet shooting into the forest scene: "Maybe save some? (Bullets)" you should make a T-shirt of that. It's such a perfect quote!
A theory my best friend and I have: why don’t we ever see the second wave of rebels? Probably because the Predator goes back and deals with them off-screen, in between picking off Dutch’s team.
Excellent reaction!! They explain much more about the Predators in "PREDATOR 2". So, you can react to that one for further info and action. But, as a warning, it is probably more gory than this one.
like I said in my comment above, Cassie should watch PREDATOR 2 before watching ALIEN vs. PREDATOR, in order to understand the connection between the two species.
Thank you for paying tribute to the movies that made my summers awesome as a teen. So many your age think our old movies sucked. I love your reactions and your genuine innocents when it comes to this stuff.
The Predator and Alien universes were not officially the same until the sequel Predator 2, where there is a scene in the Predator spaceship showing an Alien xenomorph head mounted as a trophy. This momentary other-movie-homage became a whole series.
@@ashleywilliams1060 Not so. The Aliens were made by the engineers as shown in Prometheus. The Predators found them and planted them in various places for the "Great Hunt", as they were the most dangerous things to hunt. There is some thought that the engineers made the Predators as well, and also humans.
Cassie, if you read this comment, let me fill in some blanks for you. The Predator is/was an alien whose race comes to Earth on a "safari" every so often. The original writer said that he envisioned The Predator as an accountant on a tourist hunting trip. The Predator's laugh was actually a recording he made of Billy's laugh when Pancho told him that lame joke. The Predator was standing directly above them observing the firefight at the hostage "rescue". Remember that he picked up and looked at the scorpion that Mac stabbed and killed on Dillon's back. Billy died a true warrior, and The Predator showed him his brand of respect by cleaning and keeping hs skull as a trophy. Finally, yes, Dillon was Carl Weathers, who also played Apollo Creed. The guy with the big spinning gun was Jesse "The Body" Ventura, who was a professional wrestler, and later the governor of Minnesota. Billy was played by Sonny Landham, who ran for, and very narrowly lost, the governorship of Kentucky. Arnold was, of course, the governor of California, so there were two governors and one almost-governor in this film.
"He needs to live in the mud, he needs to never come out of the mud, he needs to make a mud home." "He's too exposed, he needs more mud". "Noo, his mud.." "Can I just say.. ew! and he needs more mud". LOL

Born in '83 but I remember watching this with my older cousins while I was still less than 10 years old and thinking of mind-blowing it was. Almost 40 years later it still stands the test of time. Truly a legendary movie.
Jesse Ventura became of Minnesota. He wrote a book "I have no time to bleed" giving homage to that line on this movie. This movie blew my mind when I watched it the first time and I love it. Lots of things to re-watch next time.

My friends and I had it on VHS and we watched it over and over and had the lines memorized. We would go out in the woods and pretend we were Dutch and his team. I was fascinated by all the different guns and equipment that each of them had, their different cool guy personalities. @@Cheepchipsable That was also an inside joke...Arnold was competitive with Stallone.Stallone was doing the Rambo movies and Rambo was an ex Green Beret.
Cassie: "It's like home alone ... but more demonic." Unintentional comedy gold. Should have been the tag line on the theatre posters. Fun fact: For the heat mode view of the Alien they purchased a state of the art (at the time) actual IR camera to do the shots, but they couldn't get any decent footage out of it because their shoot location environments were so warm, so there was very little variation between human body heat and the ambient temperature. The images were just a melded indistinct haze. So they just ended up using much cheaper chemical and costume techniques and got a much better result.
Billy is one of my favorite characters. He's Native American, as a Native American myself. I feel like I can relate to him a little more than Arnold's character.
Billy was a highly trained and skilled scout/tracker. The Alien was hunting them for sport, just like big game hunters do in Africa. It's all about the thrill, challenge and the prize. Most small teams usually have a scout/point man, comms guy, sharp shooter/sniper and if lucky a medic.
Yes, that was true about the trophy hunting to an extent, because you come to find out in later Predator movies that the hunting is a test of manhood. The Predators are advanced but tribal, so if you think of it that way the reason he is hunting these human, (Oomans as they call humans), soldiers is more understandable.
"If Billy's scared, I'm scared." No truer words were spoken. I love how when Billy showed he was scared, the rest of the squad was scared too. One great thing they do in this movie, is they show major testosterone scenes, such as the mini-gun scene, but they show they're human too, and Arnold was actually scared shitless of the Predator, and how he was totally overpowered.
I just love your reactions, Cassie. And this one might just have jumped into the top five. Ever! Haha! Thank you! P.S. True Lies has all the excitement and none of the really gross monster mania!

If you remember the spaceship at the very beginning, it dropped a pod of some sort that landed. Basically, alien got dropped off on Earth.for a hunting trip.
They were going to use Jean-Claude and you can even tell when he's running while cloaked.
misfits of science too. ironically, he was the shrinking man 😝
A perfectly taut action thriller, a last minute change to a creature design, and we get one of the greatest monsters ever created in film history. Wonderful movie.
And Hollywood is gonna try an further ruin it's legacy when Prey comes out
Yeah, the original "lizardy" alien was ridiculous and nobody would have been able to take the movie seriously. Thank God Stan Winston changed that!

Great Indian character
I heard the film makers hired a few guys to watch Sonny Landham so that he didn't hurt any of the other actors... apparently he was kinda psycho
I’m Cree Indian and Billy was amazing to see as a badass warrior as a 10 year old kid.
The respect Cassie has for Billy is adorable 🙂
Btw, the actor playing Billy, Sonny Landham, was not a very friendly guy. During shooting, he had a bodyguard to protect others FROM him. He was known to be violent and short tempered.
Sonny Landham had a very very bad and sad ending.

Sure, but Commando is a banger as well.
I love this movie. The plot swerves unexpectedly from a rescue mission into a monster movie with such graceful plot movement without losing an ounce of risk.
I consider this one of Arnold's most layered performances, and maybe his first as a protagonist with a lot of depth. Dutch is so used to machinery and brute force, but has to reach back to more primal methods and instincts in order to face the Predator.
lol layered, he's not a pasta salad. Imo carl weathers's character was much better than Dutch.

I saw this in theaters when I was 12. It was awesome. My mom took us and acted exactly like you did throughout the movie.

Stick around... greatest...
"If it bleeds, we can kill it."
Also "One Aagli Madafaka."

I do think that they shouldn't have shown the spacecraft at the very beginning. It tips you off that something sci-fi is about to happen.
You can thank James Cameron and Stan Winston for coming up with the Predator creature. The original design was really silly looking and was played by - Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Stan Winston came up with the Predator design when he was on an airplane. He said the Predator needs mandibles and drew the Predator.
@@thedragonlee76 Cameron came up with the mandible idea as the two were discussing how this alien monster should look.
Van Damme was just in the SFX costume, which was some blue foam thing. The actual creature was going to be superimposed.
He was fresh off the plane and it wasn't explained to him how it worked and he thought the "monster" was stupid.
@@Cheepchipsable Yep.He was new to the industry, but he wanted a screen credit and a screen credit means alot in Hollywood.
Your face with Arnie's one liners was priceless.
Loved the part where he sais "knock, knock",before starts shoot, I had to laugh.

This is such a great movie for building suspense and tension. The shot of the Predator falling invisible into the water behind Arnold is just classic.
I saw a cutting board some time back that had a picture of Arnold yelling "Get to da choppin'!"
mac's performance was the backbone of the film in my opinion, i never appreciated how vital his performance was until i saw a few reactions of the film.
Totally agree, I always thought that Bill Duke was the best actor of the whole squad.
And Bill Duke (Mac) was a personal friend of Arnold, which is why he also had him in Commando.
my favourite scene, brilliant writing and acting from bill duke
I bet she'd enjoy Hero or Fearless from Jet Li.

I heard the alien ship in the beginning was a studio decision. It is a masterpiece no matter. But imagine you are going in expecting (and getting for the first 30 minutes) a rather typical 80s military action. And than the predator comes out of nowhere. Would have been so much better still.
They added a similar scene to The Thing for the re-release, which destroyed some of the initial mystery IMHO.
"It's like Home Alone, except more demonic and hardcore" HAHAH YES!
The burglars are also killing the McAllister family's neighbors and ripping their spines out. Not the Home Alone you remember!
This one of the best action films of the 80s and is now a classic.
Great cast too.
35 years and this is still one of the best looking movie monsters of all time.
The original predator was the best
this could be released today and still looks good
You singing "Deck the Halls" made my day...
Yeah, he also cut himself to deny the predator of drawing first blood.
Fun fact. The guy that played Billy was also a porn actor lol.

Predator 2 is also worth a watch. Different location/set-up and cast. You wondered when this film was set - essentially 'present day', late 80's for the first one, the 2nd one is meant to be 'near future'.
Predator 2 was released in 1990, film timeline takes place in L.A. 1997.
My sci Fi fan brain wants to believe predator 2 is happening in the same world as robocop.
Except he killed Hawkins before Blaine.
Good point!
The Predator was an actor??
Cool trivia: this came out in 1987. Arnold became governor of California in 2003, and "Blain" (the guy with the big machine gun, played by Jesse Ventura) became governor of Minnesota in 1998.
I learned the other day that Sonny Lindham (the actor for Billy) ran in 2008 for Governor of Kentucky first as a libertarian, then later as an independent on a hard-right platform.
At which point, people of California could go to people of Minnesota and say "My governor can beat up your governor!"

The Predator and Alien universes were not officially the same until the sequel Predator 2, where there is a scene in the Predator spaceship showing an Alien xenomorph head mounted as a trophy. This momentary other-movie-homage became a whole series.
True, by AvP they made it so the Aliens were created by the Predators to hunt for sport and rites of passages.
@@ashleywilliams1060 Not so. The Aliens were made by the engineers as shown in Prometheus. The Predators found them and planted them in various places for the "Great Hunt", as they were the most dangerous things to hunt. Now imagine watching this on the big screen from the front row with your buds!!
The line from Dillon:
"what you gonna try next? Cheese?"
Gets me every time🤣🤣🤣🤣
No one ever seems to get that when it laughed at the end, it was Billy's laugh. Exactly Billy's laugh. It could mock other's voices.
It was Billy's laugh that transitioned into Vincent Price laughing. Price was THE VOICE of classic horror.
It recorded everyone. It used Mack's voice to freak out BDW.
From an 80s action flick where the heroes never lose, to a straight up sci-fi horror where everyone dies!

No truer words were spoken. I love how when Billy showed he was scared, the rest of the squad was scared too.
One great thing they do in this movie, is they show major testosterone scenes, such as the mini-gun scene, but they show they're human too, and Arnold was actually scared shitless of the Predator, and how he was totally overpowered.
