James Cameron held off on making T2 for *years* until the right tech came along to do this movie the right way. The software to create the T1000 effect was created and perfected during Cameron's previous movie, The Abyss (which you should also see!). When the software guys demonstrated what they could do, Cameron knew he could finally make the sequel he wanted! To this day, I am super impressed with all the creative ways they used the liquid metal idea -- not just impersonating people, but melting into the floor, walking through a jail door, stabbing through the elevator doors and then splitting to become separate crowbar arms, that in-place reversal against the wall at the end... They really maximized the options so effectively that NONE of the sequels could really improve on it at all, and they all had to just recycle gags from T2. Cameron went for broke and made one of the greatest movies of all time.

Nobody *likes* that scene (and understandably so), but I think this was by far the biggest overreaction to it I've seen from someone 😂
We can accept that someone is a serial murderer or a hardcore drug slinger without batting an eye, but watching a dude lick a woman's face is what tends to get under people's skin. Kinda wild when you think about it, and I feel like people below a certain age tend to be more likely to have a sort of "hard no" reaction to it, given how sensitive topics relating to consent and sexual predation are in recent years.
I'd venture a guess that a lot of us who were alive when this movie came out just kind of were desensitized to such things, or we didn't really give much thought to the topic during our formative years. By the time public sensibilities about acts like that one really shifted, we were already well into adulthood and had our own emotional reactions to it (more or less) solidified.
But that's all speculation. I'm no expert on this. Maybe others have observed something totally different.

Fun Fact - if I remember correctly, in the Lore behind Terminator, they only made one T-1000, because it was basically their last ditch “break glass in case of emergency” model. It was fully autonomous, not under direct control of Skynet, and was so advanced with its own free will that they were afraid it would turn against Skynet and fight with the Humans.
The previous Terminator models were all set to “Read Only” and couldn’t really learn, which is why they do the reset on Arnold’s Terminator in this movie so it’s machine learning is switched on. The T-1000 is allowed to learn, which is what makes it so dangerous to Skynet

Well, the Alien series has a similar success story. The first one always deserves special praise since it started the story. The same is true for Alien and The Terminator. The second Alien movie (Aliens) was also done by James Cameron and also outperformed the first one, even though it was a bit much cliche hollywood action. I personally loved Alien 3, because it accidentally was the first I saw as a kid with my sister :) The third one is much more dire as they essentially have no weapons to fight back. Alien 3 was directed by David Fincher ("Se7en", "Fight Club", "Panic Room", ...) and was one of his first major success movies and shows his style. Alien 4 (Alien: Resurrection) wasn't nearly as good as the first 3, but has some great scenes as well. Though it has some cringe worthy scenes as well ^^.

Three trivia facts about this movie:
    1. Almost all the special effects were practical, the only exception being when Robert Patrick's character morphs his body/heals. The scenes with the T-1000 mimicking another person in the same shot were their twin siblings in the scene.
    2. The undershot of the truck jumping the bridge was filmed by the director himself because the camera crew were scared for their safety.
    3. The Heli chase was mostly done for real, the pilot was a Vietnam veteran weaving under and over the highway bridges, tunnels and trucks. Close up shots was done with a crane holding the helicopter

He also very rarely blinks as T-1000 and he would for close ups actually hold his breath so it would look like he wasn't breating at all. That's dedication to the role.

Funnily enough, there is an explanation (of sorts) about how the T-1000 (liquid metal Terminator) works in the film's novelization.
It explains that Skynet created the T-1000 pretty much by accident, and that it itself, the vastly intelligent AI that is actively destroying humanity... DOESN'T KNOW HOW IT WORKS EITHER, and not only that, but Skynet is fuckin SCARED of the T-1000 too (or at least, as scared as a computer CAN be). It describes how it's functions and systems are a complete mystery, and how Skynet itself doesn't trust the T-1000 with it's own safety. As powerful and special as the T-1000 is, Skynet is actively frightened of it's potential, and basically sent it back to kill John primarily to get rid of the damn thing.

Sarah always knew how to work the pump action on the shotgun (even with one functional arm). The problem earlier was that the shotgun's tube magazine was empty, and it took too long to insert each shell for each shot. When she showed up later, however, it was after she had inserted all of the shells it could hold, which was why she could shoot multiple shots without inserting new shells (just by working the pump action). Unfortunately, however, its shell capacity was just one short from sending the T-1000 to its death in the molten steel below.

One big difference between the two films is that Schwarzenegger starred in nine movies in between them, including Commando, Predator, The Running Man, Twins, Total Recall, and Kindergarten Cop. He more or less learned how to act along the way.

Do yourself a favor and stop here with the Terminator movies. The rest are shameless cash-grabs that do nothing but tarnish the greatness of the first two movies.

I woudnt stop here . Definitely after t3. Film didn’t flop when it came out and was definitely watchable compared to the rest after t3 . May not be close as good as the first 2 big was still solid. Arnold’s peak as the terminator was the third movie

@@CHRISTALGIA T3 should never have happened. It invalidated the sacrifices of all the characters in T2. Sarah went from waitress to huntress to stop the war. She gave 110% of herself for it. Miles died to stop it. The t100 died to stop it. John lost the only father figure he ever connected with to stop it. And because of greedy Hollywood executives they said "to hell with all their sacrifices, the war is happening anyway because money money money." They did the same thing to the Aliens and Predator franchises.

@@Galbergoth nawh t3 should have happened just with James Cameron telling a story that’s not copy pasted . T3 is its own thing and isn’t James’s work wich is all that matters . Alone t3 was as decent movie , definitely not a masterpiece . There’s already been tons of talk foff tf so long about James making a t3 to his first two terminator movies. Stop looking at t3 as a disgrace towards the first two movies in that mindset . Watching all the other terminator movies after t3 were bad and weren’t a vibe like t3 was to the first two and made t3 loom even more like a better movie then what people first thought seing it before hand . The female in t3 was definitely interesting just not with a great story behind it as of course Arnold as a terminator is always the most interesting to get people even first intresting in even watching to begin with. We know how the story went between t1 and t2 , there’s no need for you to explain anything as if James made a t3 than your comment on saying a t3 shouldn’t have happened wouldn’t matter as everything James comes out with turns to gold and there’s always a reason for more storytelling begins his magic once there’s a great story put in place for it

My friends and I saw it in theatres on opening night. Take note of the difference between "films" of today and the exemplary work James Cameron (and cast & crew) created in the 80's and 90's. And btw, yes, Michael Biehn REALLY helped to set the tone for just how incredible this series was. He deserves way, way, WAAAYYY more credit than he really ever received from Hollywon't, but at least Cameron always had a role for him (The Abyss, Aliens, etc.).

All right. Here's my theory: The reason for the T-1000 travelling through the time displacement field emulating a naked human man was probably two-folded:
1 - It needed to fake having an organic shell for the time displacement tech to work. Clothes or any inorganic material doesn't get through by itself. Alternatively, the creature could have been temporarily "wrapped" in actual living tissue that burned away during the procedure.
2 - It hadn't sampled any 90's clothes yet. 😁 Anything the T-1000 emulated as clothes, it had to be in physical contact with first.

A lot of people don't realise that the original Terminator (and a lot more classic 80 films like Alien) were actually low budget movies. On the first Terminator they were actually doing guerrilla style filming in alleyways because they couldn't afford permits. So thats why the sequels to these films really feel like such a step up, advances in technology helped but the vast majority of the improvements was just down to blockbuster budgets

Its a real shame we don't get more ambitious low budget movies where studios can take a chance on a new IP without spending $200m. A24 seem to be the only ones really focusing on it

2:24 that future war escene have been ageing like fine wine, with every remaster this movie gets, HD , 4K... , the balance between the practical and the digital effects is amazing , and the cherry on the top are the SFX.

In 2003, the American Film Institute ran a TV program in which it detailed its choices for the 50 greatest heroes and 50 greatest villains in the history of the movies, and Arnold Schwarzenegger's characters from both Terminator movies made the list; he also hosted the program.

Another note is in the bike chase, when the T-800 passes the truck. You can see the stunt double on the bike right before he grabs John. They fixed that in the later releases.
