Exceptional information thank you so much! There are a few perfumer channels that I subscribe too, but this is hands down the best content! You deserve so many more followers for the work you do Sam!
Another excellent video! Thanks Sam. I love the lectures on ingredients, accords, general approaches and resources. I don’t want to armchair quarterback you with suggestions - you seem to have a real grasp of what categories of education are high yield. All I can add is, more, more, more please!
Love the experiment process thoroughly. Cannot say enough for experimenting or even trying another person's recipe out. Glorious times these, for sharing. Thank you for the post.
Looking to your work from France. Thanks so much for sharing this. It's so nice to have intelligent video content and in a calm format on youtube. Well done, keep it up. Long life to this channel et to your work.
A big fan here! I normally browse youtube in private mode as anonymous, which means I never like or subscribe. But I deliberately signed in just to subscribe and like your videos! I am a basenote member since 2008, but I must say I have never come across a nice organized work like yours! Your work is tremendous. I do not know if you have talked about Civet yet, but from my experience a lot of high end brands like Roja and Amouage use it to give projection and feeling of opulence. I would love to see a video about it. Cheers Mate and keep it up
Hi! Firstly, thank you for subscribing, I really appreciate it, it helps the channel out a bunch! Thank you for the positive words also. I haven't talked about civet - it's something I haven't worked out how to use successfully so far. I do have a civet base though. I will keep this in mind and when I get around to exploring it I will try to do a video on it. Thanks once again.
I really appreciate how you share your process so clearly. Ive been confused lately about the difference between vanillin and ethyl vanillin so this helped clear that up as well as catching me up on what ambers actually are. Thanks so much! I would be interested in hearing more about oak moss sometime. I didn’t find it an agreeable smell at first. Now I smell dentist office and dry leaves but am puzzled about how it became such a ubiquitous ingredient in perfumery. Thank you so much for all you share!
In pharmacy/apothecary, 20 gtts(drops) = 1ml. One ml syringes are available at the pharmacy and are graduated to 0.01ml. This might be helpful in future when dialing the exact dose of each component as opposed to volume weight based. Enjoyed your video.
Hi Stephanie, thanks for the comment and for the suggestion. I'm aware that 20 drops can equal 1 gram, but the problem is that some materials have different molecular weights and viscosities which means that that number of 20 can vary wildly in practice. I like to know that if I use weight everything stays consistent regardless of what material I'm measuring. If you want to convert to drops or volume to try the formulas yourself hopefully you will get a close enough similar result.
Hi Sam, Thank you for sharing the knowledge! You are weighing the dilutions since you have these materials prediluted in ethanol. Does the weight in your measurements include ethanol weight too, or is it the weight of pure materials in ethanol?
Hi Sam thank you for your hard work. I really enjoyed watching your videos Let’s say that I want to scale up this formula in order to use it as a perfume (for example for 10 bottles of 30 ml each) but to be even more concentrated . Should I just increase every thing up to 50% for example even the powdered materials and I just add them to form the whole volume of 10 bottles without adding any more alcohol?
Sam the man with the plan! Thank you so much for this, you and your channel is amazing! Perfect content and production. This is exactly what youtube needs, will send u a pm on BN. But so much potential and there aren't that many, around noone doing this compared to many other niches I follow like dslr/cameras, ecommerce, cinematic stuff and editing as well as music production. Go go go and see your success in 5-10 years, wish you millions of views! ps see some books there, any you can recommend for a starter? All the best! /David aka David Keys ;) ps ia liiiittle too loud the music when you were talking other than that 10/10. :)
Thank for all the kind words mate, it means a lot. Yeah I completely agree, I follow some of the e-commerce and cinematic channels too and had the same idea, I think it's what UA-cam needs, especially as the information about perfumery is so scattered and hidden away. I'm not really sure if there are that many people interested in the perfumery niche tbh but only time will tell. The best book to begin with is 'Perfume: The Alchemy of Scent' by Jean Claude Ellena - it's the only hyper affordable book with really good information, written by one of the best in the industry. Thanks for letting me know about the music, I'll turn it down a little next time.
I have pure essential amber oil from northern trees (maybe Sweden or Norway), which drops fall into the sea and then gets fossilized. That smell is SO strong, reminding me of diesel.
When mixing labdanum and vanillin, is it best to mix diluted versions of them or just the pure oils? And if mixing them prediluted, would they be diluted to the same ratio?
Leather accords are notoriously difficult and I haven't made one. I doubt I would get around to it any time soon. I would check out a leather base such as Cuir 17500 or Suederal LT if you can't figure it out yourself, hope this helps!
Thank you for the suggestion. Yes, there appears to be a lot of flops when it comes to leather fragrances. Gucci was a big one. While I am waiting around to make one could you suggest one that has sort of a soft suede yep prominent note in it, a designer fragrance that I can pick up at the mall?
@@ericwatts8599 Haha unfortunately I can't help with this either - I actually don't know much about the fragrances on the market at all, I just enjoy creating my own. There are however a lot of fragrance reviewers on UA-cam - maybe you could try asking one of those? Sorry...
Love your videos mate, new sub here. I'm not complaining here as your quality is excellent it's just that the background music is a bit too loud over your voice and distracting. Best wishes👍
Thanks a lot for the comment. Yeah that was an issue with some of the older videos. More recently I have made the music much quieter - do you still feel it's the case for the newer videos?
You said in one of your videos, accords are a mixture of two or more raw materials, so im guessing you have to dilute these raw materials first before you can mix them into an accord?
I am a little bit confused about Amber ( resin)and ambra ( ambergris) in perfumes. I 've red mamy articles about both, but still there is no clarity about this subject. I am confused because some people claim that Amber ( resin)accord doesn' t exist (!) and all amber ( old resin) in perfumes is the result of translation error and actually it's all about abergris. Or if so IT is real Amber( resin) essence...(we talk about the mainstream perfumes!) I don' t think so. Is the Amber accord ( composed of mamy different notes such as benzoin, maybe Vanilla, some resins...)as a fantasy about real Amber in perfumes really exists? The perfumer really thought about the amber - the resin making the scent and it is not only the translation matter. :) Forgive me my language ;p
I m starting now and I have all of these what you have there , just the Ethyl Vanillin and diantilis I dont have but I have it all on 20% now, all of my oils . I use a 0,01 scale cause the 0,001 is soo much not accurate 😄 . Is 20% to much?
Every perfumer say you shouldnt meassure with drops, but seriously how are u going to get the liquid from A to B without drops? just buy weighting it doesnt change the fact that u still use drops, so all drops change so how do you control it? :P
You still use drops of course physically speaking, but you should never use them to write down or reproduce your formulas from . See my video on weight vs volume to find out why, I explain it in detail

Thank you so much for doing the research and heavy lifting on creating Amber accords. I found this video extremely useful bravo

Another great video as always mate👍
Thanks Juel!

Sorry dude, it's one of the older videos
Thanks Sam!

Is aber fix good for perfume for long-lasting
You said in one of your videos, accords are a mixture of two or more raw materials, so im guessing you have to dilute these raw materials first before you can mix them into an accord?
You don’t strictly have to but I choose to

Hello, I just wanna ask what if I add some ethylene brassylate to Trial 8? How does it's gonna turn out?
You should test it out!
I m starting now and I have all of these what you have there , just the Ethyl Vanillin and diantilis I dont have but I have it all on 20% now, all of my oils . I use a 0,01 scale cause the 0,001 is soo much not accurate 😄 . Is 20% to much?
You could use 20% instead of 10% then 2% instead of 1% etc. Then it would just be twice as strong as the one I made
Can you introduce very easy and basic accords for beginners?
Yes - this video is one of those. Also check out my videos on "Fougere" and "Grojsman" accords
Im still having trouble with the percents like how do i measure th e percentages of something whats the rule
Here's a great video on percentages: ua-cam.com/video/KHCqxwWON9I/v-deo.html
Can you mention the background music?
It's from the UA-cam music library
