    Thank you so much! I found my poor ZZ by the dumpster at my apartment last year and I haven’t repotted her since. I feel so bad xD but she’s been putting out new stems EVER SINCE. She refuses to give up! The pot that I randomly had on hand was exactly two inches larger and I’m so grateful because she needs it NOW

    To break up a compacted root ball I hold it under a running tap or hose. This gently washes away the soil without damaging the fine roots and allows you to replace all the exhausted soil.

    • @EverythingPlants

      I sometimes do this in a large bin so the soil and amendments don't clog the drain.

    Those roots were exactly like my cebu blue pothos that I repotted the other day! I had noticed just the older leaves were turning yellow, so I decided to check the roots. Sure enough the majority of the soil was exhausted, thus not giving the plant any nutrients at all to grow so the plant was pulling the nutrients from the older leaves. Plants will tell you when they need help. It's doing so much better now.

    Hi.. do u water only when u see wrinkling at the base stem?

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  3 роки тому +1

      No. If I notice the wrinkling then I know it's been just a bit too long without water. The plant always responds well. I will try and keep track of when I water last (in my memory) and it's usually about every 3 weeks to a month and obviously when the soil is bone dry.
      It also depends on the type of pot you use. Now that I have it in terracotta I will probably have to water a bit more frequently as the soil tends to dry out much quicker a plastic pot.

    Does cutting the roots damage the ZZ plant?

    Thanks for the video, but for an amateur gardener it was pretty confusing, because I didn’t understand what happened with the roots… Just loosen them or remove? Thank you!

      Hello! Thanks for watching my video. With this plant I only loosened them in the video, just so they weren't encircling anymore. I didn't cut away or remove any of the roots. Is this what you meant?

    Hello ! I think i may have overwatered mine 😭 is there anything i can do to fix it? Also, what should i look for when buying soil for it?

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  3 роки тому +3

      I use either a tropical mix or even better....a succulent soil and add some extra perlite. If you want the soil to dry out faster, I usually place a fan near the soil for a few days providing good air circulation. If it is dying then take it out of the pot and check for root rot.

    I wonder how long does your zz stayed in its old pot. It's so root bound.

    So, I'm curious...are the roots wrapped around the rhizomes? The one time I repotted my ZZ it was mostly rhizome with very little root! I didn't realize the roots could get that crazy!

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  3 роки тому

      I am not too sure if I am being honest. I'm assuming they are stuck in the roots somewhere hahaha

    I wanna repot by my ZZ plant (the only plant I have lol). Is it okay if I just add the potting mix with nothing else?
    You added white stuff to the mix I don't know what it's called, but is it necessary to add these?

    • @L-xj2xs
      @L-xj2xs Рік тому +1

      The white stuff is perlite. ZZ plants like well draining soil. If you have an ordinary general potting mix, it wouldn't hurt to add a bit of perlite. Make sure you only water ZZ's when they're almost completely dry.
      I don't understand why people post videos on here and then don't answer questions.

    • @EverythingPlants

      I've only ever had issues with yellowing leaves when I watered too soon or if the soil is holding onto too much moisture.

    So now that you have that ZZ in terracotta, do you water it until the water comes out the bottom or do you just eye ball it?

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  3 роки тому +1

      I just gave it the first watering. I think it was about 1/2 to 3/4 off a smaller watering can. It did not come out the bottom of the drain hole, but im sure it was enough to reach the roots if that makes sense lol

    I know this is an old video but if anyone sees this and can help me, i would appreciate it. I just bought a discounted Raven for $10 tonight and it's huge! But it's overcrowded, root bound, and I suspect it's been overwatered.
    I want to divide and/or repot it but it's winter and cold where i live and I know that's not ideal. Do i let it dry out some and try to wait until spring or do I go ahead and risk repotting in winter and cross my fingers?

      You can send a picture to my Instagram account if you want me to have a look.
      What makes you think it's been over watered? Is it yellow or droopy? I repot my plants year around. Just make sure they are receiving enough light and it won't be a problem
