- I can't be the only one who has never heard of Madame Web until this point. But Sony is apparently ready to milk their Spider-verse universe into oblivion, and while some movies have done well (Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse), others have not (Venom: Let there be Carnage)
The next installment into their Spider-verse Chronicles is Madame Web, featuring Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Web and a host of characters that are sure to be as boring in the movie as they are in the trailer.

My favorite part is when we are told about the movie's villain, "He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died." What literary economy. We are introduced to the villain. The villain looks as if he has something to do with the death of Madame Web's mother, so this becomes personal. And her mother's research of spiders connects the whole thing somehow to Spiderman. Moreover, ignoring the source material for this character is par for the course these days. She can't really have discernible weaknesses, except the weakness that she does not understand how truly awesome she is. As Ryan George's producer guy character might say, "Boss girl disabilities that aren't really disabilities are tight."
Cool, I love stories with no consequences and nonexistent stakes. Nothing is more entertaining than knowing nothing matters because the character’s power is literally reloading the last checkpoint.

My guess would be whining, blaming everyone but herself for her problems and pulling plot convenient abilities straight out of her ass.
Watch, If “uncle Ben” is Madam’s partner then at some point his iconic line to Peter will be something he heard directly from her.
I think to have heard that they are changing that line to "With great responsability, comes great powers", which ironically would make the change from Ben incredibly mature.
For decades, February is called the dead zone in Hollywood because thats when they release all the movies that tested poorly and they dont think will do very well. The moment they announced its release date as Feb it was doomed and they knew it.

I remember Madame Web from the '90s _Spider-Man_ cartoon.
Anya Corazon had her own connection to the spider god, which made her Arana before Julia Carpenter became the second Madame Web. This made her old suit available for Anya to use, and she switched to being Spider-Girl. Julia was previously called 'Arachne,' and her suit design inspired Spidey's black suit.
Mattie Franklin had a shorter run as a spider-themed hero, mostly because of her unfortunate end. She was enthusiastic and promising.
Jessica Drew is probably the most famous as Spider-Woman. She gained her powers from an AIM / Hydra experiment, before going on to become an agent of SHIELD. She was an Avenger, but she's also infamous for the decision to continue hero work while pregnant, as though she and her unborn baby didn't add a +2 to any hostage situation. Unfortunately she's also probably the deepest inside of whatever's consumin Hollywood at the moment.
Ezekiel was introduced just prior to the whole mess with Morlun, basically a vampire who consumes energy from people who also act as animal totems, spiders being his kind's favourite -- and oh yeah, there's a whole family of them. Ezekiel was involved in introducing the whole totem side of things to Spider-Man. He also hid a girl named Cindy Moon in a bunker. Peter found her and let her out, and she became her own spider hero, Silk.

This movie won't work out without Spider-Man at the center. All these women are side characters for a reason. These writers don't know how to write a psychic character with clairvoyance and beyond.
Didn't know this about Madam web, but it reminds me very much of Davros from Doctor who.
Davros is one of the most complex villains the series has, he is confined to a wheel chair having only one arm and one eye, and uses a cybernetic system to survive, due to wounds he sustained in the war that consumed his home planet of Scaro. .
Yet, he is a genius scientist who creates the Daleks and wishes them to destroy all other life forms. He is a genuine threat due to his intelligence and strategy, able to manipulate others, and always trying to gain control of his "children", yet if he ever turned his mind to good, he could produce untold benefit for the galaxy, indeed some of the Doctor's interactions with Davros over the years (especially in some of the early audio plays), have been some of the best hero/villain exchanges the series has ever had.
But in the recent series it was decided that because the chief writer thought there was a history of "associating wheel chair users with evil!", Davros was made able to walk!
Well done on undoing 40 years of characterisation, and reducing a fantastic and complex character who actually overcomes his disabilities, to just yet another white male villain!
Honestly, this woke agenda is bending so far backwards in the name of so called "equity", it's staring up it's own rear end!
I didn't mind Davros being able to walk in the Children in Need short IF THEY SAID THAT THIS WAS HIM BEFORE HE MUTATED DURING HIS EXPERIMENTS. As it stands, that _and_ the 60th anniversary special "The Star Beast" were a truly rotten way to start off RTD's second tenure.
@@NebLleb There have been several pre-accident depictions of Davros. IN the 12th doctor story the Magician's apprentice and; more significantly, the very awesome audio story I davros which lays out his full history.
Had this been another of those, a Davros flashback, I don't think anyone would've had a problem, but as it was, it is just a sign for Davies to show his own bitterness towards the very series he was bought back to save.
Oh, and let's not talk about the contrast between the original Starbeast story, or it's 2019 audio adaptation, a fun adventure like a reverse ET where an innocent girl and her friend rescue a cute alien who turns out to be a psychopath! (and who is definitely male), vs the rubbish we got for the 60th anniversary.
I've been a whovian since the age of five, for literally 35 years. At this point, when it's okay to have the Doctor told he knows nothing because he's a man, or have the new "diverse!" model bouncing around like the worst stereotype of a gay person, while literally retiring the tenth doctor, and! yet more mangling of the previous canon, I'm out!

No joke, it even made some finally admit defeat. I remember The Dave Cullen Show, and when he made a video on the special, he wound up asking the viewers to move on from this sort of thing and create their own stories. People are just sick of this shit. Be it you, or I, we're so done with panderverse stories.

Madame Web's already has its very own 'Morbin time' and it's not even out yet.
Madame web basically has the Izanagi power from the Mangyeko Sharingan, except there is no cost. There should be a cost to a do-over.
Madame Web abilities are more focused on perception and understanding rather than manipulation of time itself. She should be able to see what may happen if she does this or that using her perception of events playing out before they actual happens. I don't know if they are giving her those time travel abilities or not, but that would be exagerating her abilities.
The concepts behind this madame web movie remind me of a TV series it came out on The syfy channel 20 years ago. A TV series called Painkiller Jane, with Kristanna Loken
The Butterfly Effect did the "do over" thing better. While the main character could change the outcome of certain events, there were always unforeseen consequences for his actions. The tension came from "how will the present be affected". Madamd Webb won't have this, nor will there be a cost to her like in Erased (where that protagonist would become incapacitated for a period of time after changing an outcome, one of which led to a 15 year coma).
You nailed the main issue: there are no stakes.

What exactly is the plan with Sony? All these movies don't make any sense, because only the Venom movies connect to each other. Without Spidey none of these characters have much value. Why would I watch a Kraven movie without Webhead? If it's not Kravens Last Hunt it's pointless. Same thing with Madame Web. No Spidey? Not interested.
I think they are obligated to create movies based on the Spider Man universe, or else they lose the rights to SpiderMan

No. The rights belong entirely to Sony. That's why they need to make games, films and animations to avoid losing the rights.

They collaborate with Marvel Studios for the same reason they're making these dumb ass spin off movies with no Spider-Man, they lack the creativity and passion to produce good Spider-Man films and only care about the potential money they can make from the IP.
They should have made Madame Web into a Spider-Woman movie, like the 1979 cartoon version. The actress who plays Madame Web could easily play the character, Jessica Drew.
This could have easily been a really interesting Spider-Man version of If I Stay where Web keeps going back before an accident to enjoy her past but then ultimately accepts her fate then third act becomes Madame Web, reunites with her lover who gave up visitng her comatose body but oh no! He's a villain now and theres gonna be a sequel! Its all right there like it could have been a fun little Romeo and Juliet in New York vibe. I'm bitter

Most probably don't know just how bad The CW got with superhero shows, but Season 4, Episode 15 of "Legends of Tomorrow" had tap-dancing lesbians in space, brought on by a wish to a fairy godmother by an adult male named 'Gary'.

Another Disney/Marvel movie we really didn't ask for. You are not the only one who has never heard of Madame Web. NerdWord I really like your videos and insight. The problem with this movie in my view is that Marvel and DC are making movies about characters we never heard of or asked for and they were never that strong of a character in the comics. Look at DC comics for example. Their top superhero characters are Superman and Batman. The rest are B or even C characters. That is the problem Marvel is facing too. Their big superhero character right now is Spiderman. They are trying to make these characters who were never big in the comics into movies and TV shows and it just doesn't work. They need to just stop. I miss going to the movies, but sadly... there really is nothing worth watching anymore. The movie I would like to hear your view point on is Inside Out 2? I loved the first one because it was relatable. I am a little scared and nervous what they are going to do with the character Riley in the second one. I hope they don't do what I think they are going to do, but... I don't know. Thank you again NerdWord :)

The "do over" can be a great concept in the right context. Groundhog Day being the best example. But a superhero film is not the right context.
I'm actually glad I'm single this Valentine's Day so I won't be asked to see this, um, movie.
I recently saw a movie called Stepford Wives, the 2004 version. That movie was ahead of its time and predicted the future of Hollywood. In the film, A successful reality TV producer Joanna Eberhart made all these TV shows where the women are better than the men, to the point where a man who participated in her show wanted to kill her for ruining his marriage. In a way, it's almost as similar to how these powerful Hollywood women are taking shows and pandering it. From 2015 till 2024 today, women are taking over Hollywood and turning everything we love, like movies and tv shows into female empowerment stories and destroying the men. Stepford Wives predicted it.

LoT went off the deep end in the best way possible. That show was very much its own thing. Would personally love to see more of that show or rather that carefree vibe in DC. Admit these characters aren't real or realistic and just get whacky with it, lean into the whimsy
6:45 Yup nailed it. No one knows the character outside of hardcores, and the hardcores know her as an old overseer. They should have just made a simple Spidergirl, or spider woman movie. They over complicated things with Madame Web, and the additional characters.

because a truly strong women doesn't do things in exactly the same way as a truly strong man does... they don't understand the difference between equal rights, and physically, chemically, emotionally equal.
just because a person can do something, doesn't mean they will do it. and sometimes a person just cannot do something, even if they're legally allowed to... so they bring men down to below a womens level and it makes men look stupid, and they bring women up to above mens level, and it makes women look stupid, rather than understanding the physical differences between the sexes, and giving women the tools and smarts they need... and for men, they should be more brutish, less of a pushover, more willing to throw their size around, and not so easy to be beaten by people half their size.
they don't want reality, they want everything and everyone to be equal in every way, and in some cases men to be less equal, not just equal rights.
their idea of a strong woman is an inhuman being that's smaller, smarter, faster, physically stronger, able to do everything plus more a man can do, doesn't need a man, yet constantly complains about how she can't get one, at the same time complains how everything bad in the world is a mans fault, while not realizing it was men who built the house she lives in, designed the car she drives, invented the technology in her cellphone, picked up her trash, keeps the toilets flushing... etc...

I love the trailer for this movie. A song keeps on saying "What do you want from me?" and I feel like yelling back "A well written thought out superhero movie that has female characters who are female!!!!" but I know that would be silly.

I "knew" of Madam Web in the comics... she was less than a C list villain. MCU is so weird about bringing in little know characters and subverting their history. I like Dakota Johnson well enough.

sony is in charge of the rights to spiderman characters including mad em web they have already messed the timeline of the movie up marvel barely helps them except when its tom Hollands main movies coming out
To be fair, the consequences in Infinity War were never real either. At least Marvel was smart enough to hide that fact from the characters though.
The ending of Infinity War would have felt totally different if Stark had just told the heroes "Don't sweat it, I can invent time travel, so none of this matters."

I watched Legends because of White Canary and the rest of the characters.
People forget that Constantine was the first arrowvers show even before Arrow had started and it’s a shame as it was a great show, luckily Matt Ryan did get to come back on legends but it’s a real shame he never got to be in a live action film as Constantine still at least he is/was (I don’t know if he still is ied need to check) the voice of our con artist magician in the animated films.
Sadly it wasn’t around long enough to get repetitive or have any real crossovers getting pulled long before it’s time.

Things have gotten so bad I have ditched my Disney+ and don't care when a new Star Wars or Marvel movie come out. They have no love for the stories, they don't understand why they are loved and only care about DEI. While women do like the stories most did not read the comics and the fan base is 75% men if not more. They are just slashing their own throats by doing what they want.
The only thing that find cool about the movie is that I will get to see Sydney Sweeney as the second Spider-Woman who was in the Iron Man animated series.
I remember that series. It was weird that they had her as Tony’s kinda gf…. But besides that, I liked that show. This movie is gonna flop. Nobody cares about these characters. And I read comics.

06:07 Well, marketing costs money. The marketing budget for Avengers Endgame was reportedly $200 MILLION! To put that into perspective, last year’s Barbie film’s budget was $145 million, the budget for marketing the film? $150 MILLION! More than the production itself! 😂
I imagine they know that Madame Webb is gonna bomb, so they figure they’ll at least save on the marketing budget. I think the film has only cost around 100 million to make. And given the way Marvel films like “The Marvels” have gone lately I imagine they’re looking to save as much as possible in order to avoid pulling a Batgirl (cancelling the film so they can right it off for tax purposes).

nobody is getting whatever message they're trying to tell. By now you'd think they would learn that if you want people to agree with you, understand your message, you have to be able to tell people your message in a way that people will listen to it. these shows and movies are just making people want to go watch paint dry or something, they won't even hear the message.
I'm going to watch it. It looks good. I won't pay to watch it and will illegally stream it but I am excited for it.
You are making a mustake with her powers as presented here. She is not reversing time for a do over. She is seeing the future that is soon to occur. Its very much like Nick Cage's precognitive powers in the film Next.
However, this film is still going to be obviously terrible for the other reasons you have pointed out.
