Madame Web: Ezekiel Sims Explained

- ▸ Ezekiel Sims is a character introduced during the Spider-Verse event in Marvel Comics who had apparently underwent some form of ritual which granted him the powers of a Spider-Totem. Upon being granted these powers, similar to Spider-Man's powers, he set about amassing a fortune. He soon learnt that, being totemic in nature, he would be beset by those of orders higher up the totemic hierarchy.

I'm gonna need Rob to update this video AFTER the movie came out.😂😂😂
For real man
Seeing the inheritors and Morlun would be dope in live action. Way better than the trailer makes it look
God damn leech people
You put more thought into the theory than the actual film makers to many spider-folk nowadays it muddies the water
Thank you, was counting on you to refresh my memories on him. You are a Gem to the comic community
It actually sounds like they’re turning Ezekiel into Morlun and just combining the characters for the film
Which is a bad idea.
@@omanjackson17not bad idea at all
@LHollan it is because Ezekiel was trying to protect them while Morlun and the Inheritors were trying to kill them. It would be cool to have Ezekiel meet Madman Web and explain what is going on until Morlun kills him. Madam Web got to continue the mission that Ezekiel started. By the end, she realized he wasn't trying to save just the Spider-Man in her earth but all the Spider-Man across the multi verse.
@@omanjackson17 but you know there’s a evil version of Ezekiel right? And in MCU they combine characters quite commonly yeah Ezekiel seem have have a evil and a good version in this film if you haven’t noticed
It’s cool how they have gave Ezekiel a suit
Yeah
Cindy Moon, Kitty Pryde, Mockingbird, Betty Brant, Silver Sabre, Mary Jane, Gwen, Carol Danvers, Black Cat, in time maybe Kamala Khan.
Say what you like about Peter Parker, but MAN ALIVE does he have game...
The last one is just weird to me. Peter should be older than her and should be a mentor if anything.
This is the best thing coming out of DC Rebirth
dc rebirth? sir he is from Marvel
This is Marvel and DC current run is Dawn of DC with its stories and characters

@@lightspaceman5064 I don't care about passing some random person Vibe check if that's what this was supposed to be
@@darkshadowx9543 Don’t take it seriously. It’s just an old Rob quote.
I'm just glad to see them branching out in the Spider-Verse more, not just the same old villains and stories, and it's interesting they went with a route that is basically showing a version of Spider-Man commit murder on the big screen, that's something you would not see Disney doing I don't think
You're forgetting Main Universe Wanda, various Strange Variants, and when it comes to streaming we have Hank Pym's Yellowjacket, the zombies, etc.
@@johnelmartagbago3764 and to that, wanda is suppose to have heel turn moments and the others are varients and have no bearing on the status quo
@@swagnostic132 "...they went with a route that is basically a version of Spider-Man murdering on the big screen..."
We're clearly talking about any variants/versions based on this line alone, so yes the characters i've mentioned have bearing. And Wanda still murdered on the big-screen. You can argue all you want but that's the simple truth.
@@johnelmartagbago3764 that's the thing....we don't know much about this movie or where it fits, so we can't be too definite. But those examples aren't super strong just because we KNOW they aren't important. Aside from wanda who's character is like this in the main comics
@@swagnostic132 b r u h.
It's not about level of importance.
This guy commented that Disney doesn't let Marvel characters murder people, when in fact they do.
Period.
A few things come to mind from this: a) We already have a Web of Destiny in the movies through Across the Spiderverse. b) The version of Ezekiel Simms in the Madame Web movie seems to only be so by name and looks like hed actually be Morlun but one who plays dress up as one of his vics instead of eating every part-- including the suit; right off the end of his hunt. Which brings up a pertinent third point: If this is gonna be a movie adaptation of Spiderverse vs Morlun, they better get approved for a hard R rating if they want it to not be dismissed altogether for not having the ability to live up to the expectations of that!
But unfortunately there is one final thing that point brings up: As seen a lot of the time in recent DCAU movies, film adaptation writers want to adapt a comic but have the story altered in whatever way they so please, for some unknown reason. And to accomplish that, they decide they prefer if their audience members are completely unknowledgeable about comics and in case there are those that are, wham! Expecto Chango! Its a completely different character than you expect to be the character they name drop! Ie: Commissioner Gordon as Jack the Ripper in the 2nd (as one can clearly see the references in Mask of the Phantasm, making that the first); and far worse adaptation of Gotham by Gaslight; a C- list Riddler is their choice for whose under the bandages of Hush; and from what I'm seeing here is true: The writers of Madame Web's movie want the fact that Ezekiel Simms is actually bound to be Morlun to be another of these plot twists that change the character altogether. Not to say this type of change cant be done well. Looking back to Mask of the Phantasm, having a change from Bruce's envious and deranged Uncle Jack as the Ripper in the comics to Andrea Beaumont, a love interest for Bruce that got away because her father worked with the mob and owed a blood debt that he couldnt pay; come back to exact vengeance for her father's death at the hands of this mob, which also included a pre- Ace Chem vat swimming Joker among its ranks; under the guise of the Phantasm! That is a change that worked wonders for what can be considered one of the best comic adaptations ever! But these days, adaptation writers (for the most part, an obvious exception being the writers of the 2022 Batman movie, who did so well as Matt Reeves was a student of Jeph Loeb); but I digress; most comic adaptation writers, arent skilled enough to make a change that's clever to anyone who has read comics and those they hope are their audience, wouldnt know what hit them... until someone explains it to them in full. So, could this change work? Maybe. If the writers are talented enough. But the fact the majority of these type of adaptations in the more recent years haven't gone well, there is a lot of odds stacked against them.
We get to find out how video game Spiderman could shoot his web up into nothing to swing around? Maybe birds? Airliners? Satellites?
They feed on spider because easy prey. Like you said they went after black panther and got their ass kicked.
*"Look how they massacred my boi"*
As long as there's a real-time event in the next Spider-Man game where Spidey and Cindy Moon are knockin' boots to save the day, I'll be content, lol. 😅
Take a shot every time dude says “Peter Parker didn’t get his powers just by being bitten by radioactive spider”.

i knew youd race to make this video
I think the Madame web movie Ezekiel sims being a red herring misdirect villain who's actually trying to warn them is a good, fun idea, but I dont see how they do that because they literally showed him stabbing all the spider women in her future visions
Idk if I’m miss remembering but I thought that they were going with Julia Carpenter Madam Web. I must have assumed that it would’ve been an older casting for the OG
Maybe it’s just me but does Sims’ spider suit almost look like Wolf Spider from the ultimate Spider-Man cartoon years ago?
You're idea for this movie could be cool. All I knew was that trailer was like Scream 7 or something, but with Spiders. They need to cut another trailer, or they are probably not going to generate an audience.
They mess with the cannon of comics way too much.
The great weaver... you mean the guy in green who's currently in charge of the entire multiverse?

But like the randomness of peter parker being bitten by the spider IS what makes spiderman's story so special, because everyone could see themselves as Spider-Man,not some mystical bullshit
Facts
I would say that but people don’t like miles because Peter is Spider-Man and miles is woke idk man for some reason it’s like they hate him or just racist or don’t like change
@user-pv2cb7gx3b people don't like miles because he was a terrible character. ultimate spiderman was killed off just to be replaced by this nobody that no one asked for to appeal to a agenda. into the spider-verse saved miles as a character. he's actually one of my favorite spidermen now. but Peter will forever be THE spiderman. miles is still just miles or a version of. nobody wants miles to be a replacement they want him to co-exist with Peter. they can share the spotlight but it will always belong to Peter for he is the true spiderman.

Man you're quick hahaha
I think you might be expecting a bit too much from this film. Very much doubt we’ll see any of the previous three Spider-Men
Why would this movie "introduce" the spider-verse when that has been the main focal point of Miles' movie and Tom Holland's? It's an established concept. They can add to it if that's what you mean.
Psych!
Whoever makes this into film isn’t going to do it justice so

Wow you expected a lot cx if only
the morlun fight was so cool i liked this run alot or atleast this part i'm not sure if the run is any good now idk who's doing it
It's been many a year for me, my friend. But isn't Madam Web supposed to appear as a fairly elderly woman in a chair that can travel through and manipulate the Spideverse? Friend and consult to the Beyonder? Why is she being made into a generic CW superhero origin story? Who is this for?
This character has promise 😊
Hopefully Kraven is in there somewhere
First comic arc I ever owned was coming home and I got it from borders lmao so I'm a Lil salty he's just some goofy villain
Wait, how TF does it make any sense that Black Panther would hand Morlun's ass to him, when Spider-Man was giving his all to try to fight off Morlun.
Just bad writing in Marvel. That’s usually how it goes.
I mean to be fair Morlun was in HIS HOME
@@etaaro maybe I'm not fully aware of Black Panther lore, but does physically being in Wakanda enhance his strength/power like how being in the Dark Dimension enhances Dormammu's power, or being in Hell enhances Mephisto's power?
Why did Sony make Ezekiel a villain here
Don't get me wrong I'm happy to have the inheritors in a movie but I feel like the bad guy should have been Patton Parnel that would have been dope get Christopher Mintz-Plasse to play him just like a f***** up Spider-Man that creeps on chicks and is a cannibal.
Uhh ohh *sweats from spider man turn off the dark*
I know this type of thing is expected in comics but after watching this, the entire concept of Ezekiel, the Great Weaver, the totems, all the new characters seems so unnecessary.. it really doesn't add anything compelling to his mythos
What if the Eddy Brock god level powers leads to madam wed and the spiderverse. Could undo the deal with the devil.
I want to know how Madame Web went from an old blind woman, to a young paramedic girl.
😅😅
She wasnt born blind
The movie is taking place approximately 20 years ago. If you notice the vehicles and tech are slightly dated
The paramedic helping her when she fell in the car is supposedly Ben Parker
There are two versions of madam web the old one and the young one. It’s like a reimagining
@@kamikazeplays6818she was born blind but apparently this is a different version
I only know Madame Web from the 94 Spider-Man cartoon. Since then I have a feeling that Spider-Man’s origin story was deeper than I thought.

I remember as a kid checking out the Spider-Man Encyclopedia from my local library and just loving to read about all the different characters. Ezekiel stood out to me with how he was this mentor figure who had a surprising betrayal but just couldn’t go through with it. Of course this was the stuff before the current Morlun retconn and the whole spider-verse. Interesting to see what may happen with his character
ME TOO I read the same encyclopedia! I remember diving into this rabbit hole trying to figure out who this person was when I was like 11 years old.

This is going to be garbage if they were going to do it right Spider-Man should be in the film but as usual, they don’t use the source material so we’re going to get another marvels girls flick and there not gonna do it right

@@HissoriRenda for I’m tired of marvel, really not care and not using the source material like they should to give us good quality movies
Man I remember reading the comic that introduced Ezequiel. In that comic, Morlun is unstoppable, Spider-Man couldn’t do anything. Morlun took every punch like if it were a breeze. And according to the comic, Peter said “it hits harder that any other guy I’ve ever fought, and I have fought the hulk.” And also “for once I don’t have a funny remark, because this is not funny.”
Morlun literally shut Spider-Man up with strength alone.
I’d like to add that during the whole exchange, Morlun showed no emotions either.
Paul on the other hand would solo 🥱
The guy who ate spider punches like nothing somehow isn't immune to tranq darts
Reading that line back in the day had me like....wait what!? 🤣
what does showing emotion have to do with anything lol@@sandmars7
I mean we do learn later that Ezekiel stole his powers and tries to have Peter replace him as a sacrifice so he’s not all good. But through Ezekiel we learn Peter was chosen to be Spider-Man, through the Klyntar we learn Peter was born to be the opposite of a Beyonder, the King in Black….needless to say Peter was always meant for greatness
Then again, The Presence is still Eddie and he sees Peter as being more worthy than him so it might be a bit biased but a future King In Black mentoring Peter sounds fun.
@@400thekiller233 your entitled to your opinion, I disagree with it and that’s ok entertainment isn’t meant to be enjoyed the same way by everyone. Though I would argue Peter was never written as an average kid to begin with, he was a social outcast with a far higher than average intelligence which particularly in 1962 would not have been considered average
It wasn’t through the klyntar it was through a future Eddie Brock and he wasn’t being literal, he was just saying that Peter is perfect for the role
@@protalghulnist4126 I mean that’s true but at that point Eddie is physically part klyntar he is a human symbiote so it is through the klyntar that we learn that as the klyntar are a hive mind so The Eventuality would have access to all their combined knowledge throughout time. I didn’t take it as a personal “Peter is better than me” I took it as it was meant to be Peter (remember we first come across the symbiote through Peter on a world created by the Beyonder so there are certain things we could take from that) but just because it wasn’t meant to be Eddie doesn’t mean Eddie cannot live up to the role the line “But life happened and he’s not here and you are. You bought the ticket Eddie. Somebody has to take the ride” makes it very much feel like he chose to be so he has to step up to the role. But time will tell if it was just a throw away line used for inspiration or if it is delved into further down the line.
@@400thekiller233 I didn’t say it changes everything, I just said I’d argue he was never average to being with. Otherwise as I said your entitled to your opinion, art is subject we aren’t all supposed to view it the same way
As much as I want your theory about Ezekiel in this movie to be true (@Comics Explained), I think you are giving Sony Pictures way too much credit. I think they are going to drop the ball like they've done with Venom and Morbius and so many others... unfortunately.
And already with Kraven and it's not even out yet
I mean they didn’t drop the ball with spider verse the game and nwh I mean they are doing good things man
Plenty of people liked the venom movies and to be honest even if everyone is proved wrong after talking this much shit off a fucking trailer and it proves to be really good people are still going to bitch and complain because that’s what people do. Even when something is good people will find something in the film to complain about and then use it as the driving force for their bitching as they claim the movie sucked. Nothing Sony does and hell nothing the MCU does will ever be good enough because people will always find a way to complain that’s what they do they’re miserable and negative and have to spread that negativity around to other like-minded negative people who will just keep spreading it all over until it’s the majority narrative. whether it’s true or not is completely irrelevant just so long as the majority believes it that’s all that matters to them so if the majority is going to be fucking negative and complain about it then that’s what it’s going to be if they say it’s a bad movie then it’s a bad movie who gives a shit what anybody else thinks because they said it’s bad.
@@streetside2833Doesn't this come out before Kraven? Yet they showed off Kraven way before lol.
It's to keep the Spider-Man IP
@@deeward283couldn’t have said it any better myself. People refuse to give credit when it’s due. Nothing is ever good enough for them. It’s always easier to hate than to appreciate.
Almost forgot how thick old school Spider-Man was 😂😂
Was finna say the same thing! Like why can't they draw him like that anymore 😆
The Spider-Verse has huge potential all by itself with Inheritors and other villains going against spiders ....
You were.... dead wrong! As the movie explained, Ezekiel was in the Amazon with Web's mom when she was researching spiders just before she died.
cringe meme lmao
I'm gonna be honest....I like Spiderman, I like his story, I like the villains but the whole deeper mythos and whole multiverse thing linking his powers with some spider god cult thing and him having about 40 different rebrand characters that do and have the same exact powers as him is just ridiculous even for comic book standards. And people said the bat family was bad but at least there's only ONE Batman. Speaking of Batman this is just like when they told us the reason Batman was who he is because he's actually the avatar of some bat god. That's like a cool story for a one off animated film but to actually make it canon is crazy. Also the multiverse trope is being done to death. Invincible, Rick and Morty, No Way Home, loki and the entire phase 4 and phase 5 of marvel have either been building toward it or have actively done it, The Spiderverse movies, the flash show, the flash movie, even Adventure Time had a whole mini series dedicated to multiverses
Totally agree. If this garbage was there from the start, I never would have become a fan in the first place.
Madame web? It’s such a weird character to make a movie on, it feels so unreal. Should’ve just made a movie on Julias or Anyas origins while having the tone and style of the TASM movies. A Silk origin movie would’ve been cool too
Wow didnt take long for someone to explain characters new fans don't know about. Because new fans don't read comics or read at all unless it's a text 😂😂
It’s kinda like if Batman’s parents were actually killed by the crime god so he could be inducted into the multiversal order of Bat warriors.
I think it’s a weird, kinda pointless change to give a cosmic origin to a simple back story like theirs.
The whole introduction of Ezekial blew me away when he poses the question to Peter - Did the spider bite you to give you its power or was it the dying act of a poisoned creature? And it steamrolls into the whole Totem aspect which I absolutely loved. I loved this era of The Spider-Verse
Deepened the lore in an awesome way
That just ruins a decent chunk of what makes Spider-Man so special though. Peter Parker was just some kid that happened to be at the right place and the right time and got spider powers from a radioactive spider that could have bitten anyone. It could have bitten me or you, anyone could have became Spider-Man. The idea that it could have been one of us makes it a whole lot more meaningful and cooler in my opinion. Making it so Peter was destined to be Spider-Man is just lame.
And to think some fans are ok with this bs.
Boy howdy, do I absolutely hate everything around the spider totems. Instead of just being a hero cuz of a spider bite, now they have a random mythology that picked Pete because fate/destiny. And the mythology has its own multiversal vampires that no one but the spider ppl can stop.
the madame web movie introducing cindy moon would make alot of sense
I think you’re putting way too much faith in this Madame Web movie.
Ezekiel Sims is an interesting character because he ties so much to the Spider-Man lore. He locked Cindy Moon away to protect her from Morlun.
Not only that, Ezekiel is a totem of the Web of Life and Destiny. Meaning anyone Across the Spider-Verse is bitten by a radioactive spider, becomes a protector of the Web.
We'll see the Inheritors show up in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Nah, the animated movies omitted the whole magic totem bs, and Spot replaces the Inheritors as the big bad.
i love when people make speculations because we honestly have no idea what will happen until it comes out, so anything is possible, but it’s also a huge pet peeve when people say that something will happen too. we have so much content and explanation for miles destiny within the spiderverse just from spot alone. we don’t need the inheritors to share that story rn so there’s no guarantee that’ll happen. cool idea, but thinking something will happen and knowing are very different
I hope the inheritors go the way of the dodo

Dude, who says the radioactivity ISNT relevant? Modern day, we have pseudo matter; a counterbalance of radioactivity and mater, that, allows for material properties, outside of what there atomic numbers and structures would allow, by having the gamma photons materialize and dematerialize at specific rates across the surface.
Some believe, this is how " magic" may have worked, before we jad any explanations for the phenomena, besides trickery.
The spiders chitten COULD have just allowed for a specific pseudo matter to be formed, when exposed to that wavelength of radiation. It WAS supposed to be an exotic radiation form anyway.
Technically, of all things; THE TICK could be tied in to this multiverse, being a fox property owned by disney, if, your theory holds.
However; saying its just a side effect of the exotic mater, allowing for the manipulation of probability fields, explains SO much more then " because magic" , instead, having the secret societies and " ritual" of magic, happen as a THEORETICAL RESPONSE, TO the probability fields existence.
Sort of like cults form around alcohol, rather then alcohol existing, because of cults. : /
Here to say....The Inheritors should have been the ones hunting the teen girls in Madame Web. Ezekial could have been a misunderstood herald trying to help. Sony, Sony, Sony....this is what happens when you don't at least try to adapt something from the comics. just saying'!
While I like your theory, Rob, do you honestly think the people in charge of writing for Sony Films are capable of making a halfway decent live action Spider-Man movie remotely close to what you're saying? I'm fairly positive it's going to be generic, bland, and as straight-forward crap with the full focus of connecting it to the "Spider-Verse" without considering a decent story.
Wow. This is some shit lore. I seriously hope the next games eont be featuring ANY of this. Sadly, they are already introducing another diversity spiderperson with silk.
Keep it simple and keep it straight. That is why marvel is failing and why Sony's stuff will fail. Nobody wants to see kraven as some voodoo dude that gets animal sporits powers etc .. they just want a strong man that is obsessed with hunting and uses everything he can to be stronger and better at hunting, be it medicines, soup or witchcraft
I never really thought that the spider totem was a good idea because it took away for me , what Stan Lee said about about Spider-Man; any one could wear the mask
I'm kinda 50/50 on it myself.
why does everyone always get mad at someone’s opinion it’s crazy do you know what a UA-camr does when he reports on Movies and Comics and any type of events they give their opinion and you watch it, so why jump to the comments and argue with someone in the comments about their opinion, you just write your opinion underneath and move on
Mmman I despise the Web of Life and Destiny and totem stuff. Such a mistake.
🗣️ MARVEL 🗣️ YOU WILL NEVER HAVE SPIDER-MAN!!!

So.......is he a villain, hero, or anti hero? From the trailer it seems he's absolutely a villain.
I guess we'll have to actually watch the movie lol
I feel like these destiny stories ruin the idea of great responsibility
Honestly I'm kinda mad about all this. Stan Lee's immortal story is getting chumped by all this crazy Multiverse stuff. To be honest, it was nice to have a hero like the original Peter Parker as Spiderman. All the real life problems he faced as well as the super villain ones. This Muliverse stuff just seems to make it all hokey and way too out-there. But I digress, it's probably just me.
It's just you
Because a guy bitten by a radioactive spider is perfectly normal lol. Stan lee was alive when the spider-verse stuff started. Hell the seeds of it started in the late 80s early 90s with the Spider-man cartoon and Peter meeting alternate versions of himself.
Lazy writing for the unlearned.
