Wisdom comes from fear but truth comes from thought: if you are afraid of the truth, you aren't thinking. If you are thinking about fear, you aren't wise. Be full of hope, have faith in yourself, be true to yourself and be vigilant on those who say otherwise - that's what V wants. AND that is indestructible. (He might have said it more but I think he realized those Magnums went through his steel plate).
Though it's not said in the film, in the graphic novel it's explained that the experimentation that was done on him gave him somewhat superhuman reflexes and strength - which would explain how he survived long enough to kill everybody.
Actually it's just described as hormone research with a pituarin/pinearin mixture, which causes a psychotic breakdown in the man in Room 5 and gives him a totally magnetic personality. Nothing is said about superhuman reflexes and strength.

For anyone who didn't know, V is superhuman, but not like a big time superhero. Thats why he was able to survive all those bullets for a short while even though they pierced his armour.
Very possible that due to the fire, either his pain levels are so high as to make them mute, or he does not feel pain. So damage to body can be largely ignored, at the very least he is not susceptible to passing out from the damage he takes.
Also when he throws the first 2 knives he quickly makes a V out of them. Creedy's revolver shoots 5 rounds at the end as well, instead of 6. The whole movie is full of Vs and 5s.

You have to remember, besides enhanced strength, endurance and pain tolerance, V posses heightened senses (due to cell mutation). Slow motion is used: 1) so you have an idea how fast, accurate and strong V is suppose to be (10 guys died before they were able to reload their guns, and the last guy (the 11) before Mr. Creedy, receives a knife to his head with such strength that it goes through his cranium). 2) So you can appreciate every second of the fight and gain full understanding of it.
I understand one thing for sure, Creedy didn't know how to load out his tac team. No backups, no shotgun, no kevlar, which would have stopped most of those knife strikes. The regime might have been stable if not for the thuggish gestapo head. If it had been someone like Putin V would've been recruited.

2:13 Everyone is talking about the amazing writing, which I love too, but I have to appreciate that camera pan with the main focus being on V's knife but that the pan stops right on Creedy dropping the casings out of his revolver. It feels so cinematic having the action in the background to what should be a boring event, loading a firearm, but it isn't because of the implied pressure. They're racing, Creedy to reload and V to dispatch everyone. It has the same feel as an old western cowboy duel but with the unique component of one person using knives while out-numbered.
The impression i got from this scene when he said "ideas are bulletproof" even though he didnt have a steel plate and died right at the beginning, there was no way stopping V anymore and Mr. Creedy is already dead. The people already stood up to tyranny...all because of V. You're the man!
I think it's reminiscent of President FDR in that books can't be killed by fire and certain tyrannies were into that at wartime. The fact that people remember, think and pass on info to others - the things that the government were suppressing - meant that, in time, you can't use force to stop humanity.
It's a great line -- which is why it's been used in so many movies: Iron Man, Serenity, and Van Helsing are just three of them. There are many more that I'm forgetting at the moment. (If anyone out there wants to remind us of some of the others, I'd be immensely grateful...)
Just watch the whole movie and you'll understand. One of the best fight scenes and most intense. I just got the goosebumps all over me when i watched this for the first time.
If you pay attention to this fight scene there are five refrences to the number five and the letter "V" in it. The first is the fact that Creedy and his gaurds are standing in a V formation,the second is before he throws his knives he makes a V out of them,the third is after he throws the first two knives they make a V five times (this one you have to pause consecutivly to see),the fourth is that Creedy fires only five bullets from his gun at V,and the sixth one is that V makes a "V" on the wall

For those that are griping about it, though it is not obvious in the Film, in the original Graphic Novel V was experimented on. He was granted superhuman reflexes, speed, strength, durability, as well as incredible immunity system and healing factor (no not like wolverine, but stronger then a human by far). This is what granted him the ability to facetank so many bullets, and still keep going- only dieing afterward. That and of course his inhuman willpower he had before the experimentation.

Aside of all the symbolic movie stuff, the fact that the fight takes place in closed quarters, in near darkness means that regardless of how many guys he takes on he has the advantage of tactical speed. So even knifes beat guns in this one, at least for a while.
The closing scene makes me cry, because it's a dream all down-trodden British people desperately hope for! Governments should never give a country's citizens...nothing left to lose!

Assuming they were using hollowpoints (likely since they assumed him unarmoured), much of the impact would have been absorbed with the remaining shrapnel not being immediately lethal. Honestly, Mr Creedy's pistol probably dealt the most damage both in terms of bullet type and because he got an extra volley off into the already fully compromised plate.
Regardless of what his armor was made of, he was hit by over 150 bullets (10 shooters with mostly modified Beretta 92's, plus the leader guy with 12 shots from his wheel gun). Laws of averages are that some of them will find unarmored spots.

@leverbart Actually, the metal vest decreased the bullet speed right before entering in his body. He had alot of strength, so this could be possible but probability is slim, but still possible. The only thing what is impossible is to have the strength to break creedy's neck!! It's still one of the best movies i've ever seen!!! every year i plan to watch this movie on 5 of november which will occur in a few days :) So i can remember the awesomeness of that movie
@justahengin87 ... None of the weapons used in this scene are firing armour-piercing rounds, but all three weapons (Glock 17, Beretta 92 Inox and Smith & Wesson 686) would easily penetrate the crude armour plate that V is wearing. This film is awesome, and that about sums it up.
Great scene, great movie. I've read the graphic novel too and it was even more dark and gritty posing an alternative world to the one we know today very well. I think as a film adaptation this was excellent even though this scene doesn't happen in the movie it does justify the action/violence aspect of a thriller, so in a way it keeps faithful to the genre.
Anyone talking about "zomg they coulda just shot him in the leg hurr durr" doesn't understand the point they are making in this scene. This entire movie is a fable, not intended to be realistic. V explicitly explains the point of this scene in his speech: you can't kill the truth with bullets.
While it MAY be cheesy, let me also throw in here that V is superhuman because of the experiments done to him; and he has armor. So therefore, it is plausible for him to be able to withstand it all and die from it later as he did after the battle.
This film is utter, utter tripe and the actors who took part in it must have been secretly embarrassed to have stooped low enough to have taken part. A waste of time from peoples lives they will never get back having attempted to watch it….
You know what's frightening: the fact that he pulls out that body armour lot of bullet holes and blood and you automatically realize the blatant fate of this main character.

@DII117 Not true. You are taught to aim for the center of mass in any police or military force. The first reason is that people are more likely to die from shots fired into vital organs contained in the chest cavity which is also a much larger target and saves ammunition. The second reason is it is considered inhumane to shoot people in the face, and it can make identification difficult. Honestly, have you ever shot a gun before? It's not so easy to aim, you always aim for the biggest part.

As for the states, after the Bush debacle I can understand why people might not think it is democratic.There is a hell of a lot wrong with the UK, especially right now,but I do still consider it one of the most democratic countries in the world. @wowpat449 No, V survives because he is genetically altered to regenerate fast, it's shown in the film. Aside from this, the film ( unlike the comic) is supposed to be an allegory for what is necessary to keep our society democratic, it's poetry, not realism that you should try and take from the scene. Even though the film is a completely bastardized version of what Alan Moore intended, I still enjoyed it very much.

It is, however, elaborated more in the graphic novel. Mind you, in the graphic novel V also dies long before this point, and it's Evie who has taken over in time for the November 5th reckoning.

It was even primitive metallic breast plate and not a modern day bulletproof vest so it basically did nothing to protect him.

This made me cry too. And yet, it was a fitting ending for V that led to the terrific ending of the movie.

It's still one of the best movies i've ever seen!!! every year i plan to watch this movie on 5 of november which will occur in a few days :) So i can remember the awesomeness of that movie
He has about fifty holes in him but he still has the strength to lift a man with one arm, what a boss!

@justahengin87 ... None of the weapons used in this scene are firing armour-piercing rounds, but all three weapons (Glock 17, Beretta 92 Inox and Smith & Wesson 686) would easily penetrate the crude armour plate that V is wearing.
This film is awesome, and that about sums it up.
Great scene, great movie. I've read the graphic novel too and it was even more dark and gritty posing an alternative world to the one we know today very well. I think as a film adaptation this was excellent even though this scene doesn't happen in the movie it does justify the action/violence aspect of a thriller, so in a way it keeps faithful to the genre.
Anyone talking about "zomg they coulda just shot him in the leg hurr durr" doesn't understand the point they are making in this scene. This entire movie is a fable, not intended to be realistic. V explicitly explains the point of this scene in his speech: you can't kill the truth with bullets.
While it MAY be cheesy, let me also throw in here that V is superhuman because of the experiments done to him; and he has armor. So therefore, it is plausible for him to be able to withstand it all and die from it later as he did after the battle.
This film is utter, utter tripe and the actors who took part in it must have been secretly embarrassed to have stooped low enough to have taken part.
A waste of time from peoples lives they will never get back having attempted to watch it….
You know what's frightening: the fact that he pulls out that body armour lot of bullet holes and blood and you automatically realize the blatant fate of this main character.

That one line gives me chills each time I watch this scene. One of the best scenes I watched in a film. Nothing but pure ownage.
the acting in this movie is really good. the actor who plays "V" is a highly skilled actor.
He should have worn Kevlar he would have still been alive after the fight did they outlaw that as well during this time period in the movie? lol the guy can get ahold of knives he can steal paintings and artwork but not a kevlar bullet proof vest.
much more epic in a fistful of dollars but im sure the director/writers were aware of this and probably were paying homage to a great movie, anyway still a good scene if you dont know what im talking about watch the ending of a fistful of dollars

It's just a movie. Imagine how stupid it'd be if movies worked like they would in real life. It would be lame and we wouldn't have nearly as many good movies.

Not true. You are taught to aim for the center of mass in any police or military force. The first reason is that people are more likely to die from shots fired into vital organs contained in the chest cavity which is also a much larger target and saves ammunition. The second reason is it is considered inhumane to shoot people in the face, and it can make identification difficult. Honestly, have you ever shot a gun before? It's not so easy to aim, you always aim for the biggest part.
@ElectricGravity Well, I consider the United Kingdom a democracy which is where I live and where the film is set. As for the states, after the Bush debacle I can understand why people might not think it is democratic.There is a hell of a lot wrong with the UK, especially right now,but I do still consider it one of the most democratic countries in the world. I also very much believe that the British system is 'by the people,for the people' even though that gets twisted by corrupt bureaucracy.
@wowpat449 No, V survives because he is genetically altered to regenerate fast, it's shown in the film. Aside from this, the film ( unlike the comic) is supposed to be an allegory for what is necessary to keep our society democratic, it's poetry, not realism that you should try and take from the scene. Even though the film is a completely bastardized version of what Alan Moore intended, I still enjoyed it very much.

He does have six bullets though. When he was reloading it showed 6 shells falling out of the cylinder.

+persnikity12345 actually, the movie does explain that the patient from room 5 (V) developed abnormal kinesthesia and reflexes when going through Dr. Stanton/Surridge's journal. It is, however, elaborated more in the graphic novel.
Mind you, in the graphic novel V also dies long before this point, and it's Evie who has taken over in time for the November 5th reckoning.
