It doesnt have that unique Vice sound or feel. Which is a shame, cuz this style is lacking, and feels the same as every other.. vice had its own voice that was unique and grassroot and just different. This is like NBC style lol (nothing wrong with that, but it aint that vice, u know what I mean?) Just my opinion anyway
Okay, so the problem is that these sweet sugary foods and drinks are slowly being replaced with similar versions using a mix of artificial sweeteners. It's to the point where nearly every low calorie food has artificial sweeteners. We're eating and drinking globs of this stuff every day in the US, yet the long-term safety at high doses is still somewhat unknown. There ARE effective NATURAL no and low-calorie sweeteners available, it's just that manufacturers continue to use the fake ones (Ace K, sucralose, etc.). Erythritol with monk fruit is 100% natural and it takes and feels like sugar. It doesn't really impact the consistency of foods and beverages the way that, say, stevia does. There's also xylitol which is natural and sweet but it can cause major GI issues even in moderate doses. I hope more companies embrace erythritol + monk fruit instead of adding to the already giant selections of foods and drinks stuffed with artificial sweeteners. Even erythritol + monk fruit + low dose sucrose.
Or another question can be asked--do foods REALLY need to taste sweet? I guess if one is addicted to sugar, the desire for sweetness doesn't go away easily.
Many people don't even know they're eating sugar when they're eating sugar. Cane sugar is not the only sweetener out there. There's corn syrup, corn sugar from plants. There's hundreds of names for sugar derived from many sources but they are all the same sugar. Everything is either glucose or fructose. And yes they are highly addictive and everybody eats a lot of it everyday unknowingly and knowingly. It's a prime driver in our big pharma hospital insurance machinery. Much money to be made.
Sugar free chocolate exists. I’ve been making a real effort to get away from my sugar addiction these past few weeks and discovered it. I’ve started to feel they add sugar to it simply to make it addicting because it’s just as good without.
Dad always told me that "if the taste is sweet it'll rot your teeth", and I learned early on to avoid sugar...in ALL it's forms. No coffee creamer, no candy, no cereal, no milk, and absolutely NO soda. I hadn't been to the dentist in 15 years prior to 2 months ago and he told me after a short cleaning that my teeth were perfect.
It's mindboggling how we can all recognize the horror of someone addicted to meth or fentanyl with sunken in eyes, no teeth, hunched over, emaciated, etc. Yet nobody bats an eye at 22 year old men with giant boobies or young women who look like a wad of mashed potatoes roaming through a store like a herd of cattle. I don't mean to sound cruel but it's a horrifying reality that we seem to have just shrugged our shoulders and accepted.
So this is going to go against this piece a bit and and a lot of other comments but I think there are 2 types of sugar one of which I think is overall "better" for you. Ultra processed and not. Ultra processed like pop tarts, cereals, soda, "fruit snacks" etc. Fake, chemically driven, lab created foods...than there are sugary things things like maple syrup, home made ice cream, and dark chocolate. The latter in my opinion is much better for you overall if eaten in moderation. The scare tactic of "never have!" doesn't work for most people. They usually crash when completely abstaining. Just lessen your intake, watch the source of your sugar and eat good whole foods 90% of the time and indulge once in a blue moon. I've managed to maintain a healthy weight and blood levels doing it this way. I just think the broad sweeping, DON'T EVER HAVE that's taking over is going to backfire for a lot of people once they fall of the wagon.
If we KNOW ALL this about sugar, why is high fructose corn syrup a main ingredient in EVERYTHING? Is it that the Dept of Agriculture is simply stronger and has more money than the Dept of Health in the USA?
USA = U Sold All. The Fed is a private bank therefore the government does not even control the money of its "nation", america is a huge ponzi scheme where the 0,001% get to actually own things and literally everyone else is only allowed to temporarily borrow.
Honestly is just us being lazy. A mental game. It’s like should I meal prep or should I just buy food? Which would save me time. It is very hard to avoid since a child you’re given a lot of sugar. Once in a while is not bad to enjoy. Plus, the bad eats are cheaper than healthy foods.

I covered the history of sugar in my thesis for college. In my research, I found that the high society of centuries-old Europe would hoard sugar given how important of a commodity it had become during that era. They even went as far as to make sculptures out of the stuff for decadence.
I quit eating candy right before Christmas when I had a tooth pulled. In March I noticed my mental health seemed better. I had more energy. Dropped a few pounds. Then I fell off the wagon. Starbursts did it. And I realized how drawn to sugar I’ve been all my life. I’m kicking it again - tomorrow. After I finish my last bag of twizzlers.
It's not sugar alone- it's sugar and fat combined into "obesogenic chow" (10% protein, 45% (each) fat and carbs) that are the food companies desired ratios of macros...but everyone looks at a donut, chocolate bar and equates it to "sugar" completely missing the point that these foods are also fat laden and engineered to get you eating like an addicted pig.... try a zero fat high STARCH (potatoes, rice etc with lean meat like chicken and pork) diet and you won't find yourself craving sugar despite eating long chain glucose primarily in these starches....Pick one or the other- fat or carbs and try and not mix them up, that's where the problems begin if you look at the Randle Cycle...
That math doesn’t add up. How could a 30% increase in sugar consumption result in a 50% increase in obesity? Why use numbers that end a decade and a half ago, in 2010? Because sugar consumption has DECREASED in that time and obesity rates have continued to steadily increase. Obviously consuming too much sugar isn’t good for you but when the case is presented in such a blatantly misleading way you have to ask why?
The Fanjuls were the type of oligarchs Fidel kicked out of Cuba. That said, this doc plays pretty broadly with the details, trying to place all blame on the Cane Sugar lobby , when in fact the Corn (and HFCS) lobby is a much bigger culprit. The liver can metabolize sucrose a lot easier than it can fructose.
Unfortunately the food industry knows the addictive power of their product and specifically markets it to poorer and more vulnerable people. These products are always cheaper than healthier alternatives, like fruits, and require less preparation so poorer families end up purchasing a lot of processed foods to save time and money. They end up paying for it out the nose once they develop diabetes or other heath issues. This is why food deserts are such a problem in the US.
You can eat healthy for cheap. It just takes a little discipline because you have to prepare your own food from scratch. Dried legumes, rice, fresh produce, fresh meat (esp. chicken and pork), dairy, and eggs are all relatively inexpensive. Food deserts happen because of crime. Stop robbing the grocery stores and maybe they won’t pack up and leave.
I would actually eat cookie dough in the car from needing sugar, been overweight since childhood. I taught myself that I was worth more than sweets, so I give myself whole food as a gift, yes I sound exhausting. But it worked, I get to have some ice cream now n then but it's ok. I'm ok without it, now even slice bread tastes sweet 😊

This is propaganda. Sugar is not a drug, and not addicting. Please use science next time. When food stamps were actually stamps limits on what could be purchased ( no soft drinks, candy or chips) actually existed. Over the past 30 years those restrictions have been removed by compassionate people concerned about restricting what someone on public assistance can have access to.

Somebody? Everyone and their grandmother has been yammering on about this for years. If you ask anyone on the street what the unhealthiest food is, they'll probably say it without even consciously thinking about it. And yet our heart disease and cancer rates are still climbing up...
its the absolute worst thing by far and I believe that we get addicted to sugar first and nobody except for hippie parents realize it so there have been a couple kids in school who probably got made fun of because instead of fukin whatever recess snack with like 25 gs of sugar in it that "the cool kids" had they like a apple or some granola instead hmmmmmmm

I dont know if any1 else noticed, but has Vice changed ownership?
Because the style here of reporitng, is very reminiscent of nearly all other major brands. It doesnt have that unique Vice sound or feel.
Which is a shame, cuz this style is lacking, and feels the same as every other.. vice had its own voice that was unique and grassroot and just different. This is like NBC style lol (nothing wrong with that, but it aint that vice, u know what I mean?) Just my opinion anyway

fresh veggies are really unhealthy.
I'd suggest eating red meat instead.

Dr. Robert Lustig is a hero for teaching people why too much added sugar poisons people
I knew you were going to say sugar and I would have it you didn't.
America's most dangerous addiction is to money. Clearly, this is a close second.
I hope that u just mind your business. What business is it any of yours what people eat? Or do?
Or another question can be asked--do foods REALLY need to taste sweet? I guess if one is addicted to sugar, the desire for sweetness doesn't go away easily.
I've been hooked since childhood.
Really bananas, more motivation to change my diet and try remove refined sugars. But I really like chocolate...
Sugar free chocolate exists. I’ve been making a real effort to get away from my sugar addiction these past few weeks and discovered it. I’ve started to feel they add sugar to it simply to make it addicting because it’s just as good without.
Try 100% chocolate - you’ll hate it 😂
@iXpertMan bro I love 70% but anything past that is bitter butthole 🤣🤣
Dad always told me that "if the taste is sweet it'll rot your teeth", and I learned early on to avoid sugar...in ALL it's forms. No coffee creamer, no candy, no cereal, no milk, and absolutely NO soda. I hadn't been to the dentist in 15 years prior to 2 months ago and he told me after a short cleaning that my teeth were perfect.
what about fruits ?
@@Traveljournalist Natural fructsose sucrose ND glucose. I think they're referring to processed artificial bullshit
@@Traveljournalist I don’t eat them either, though I probably should.
Who is 'they'? How about he/she? @@ZFMusicTheEmperor
@@priuss6109The singular "they" has been in common use in everyday English since at least the Elizabethan period. Language evolves, deal with it.
I know folks are addicted to sugar which is not just craved. It should be optional for making desserts. They'll still taste delicious.
I learn something new evert day, “kanda” now Candy, hmm. Interesting.

I don't know about sugar being the "most dangerous" addiction. I'm pretty damn sure fentanyl and opiods are a bigger problem.
only a small fraction of people use those drugs, but nearly everyone from birth is hooked up to the sugar / corn syrup feeder
@@spacecatboy2962 That "small fraction" is becoming noticeably larger as time goes on, and the consequences of opioid use have a far greater detrimental impact on the physical and social health of a country than people becoming slightly overweight from diet mismanagement.
I mean, which would you rather have walking down your street? Someone hopelessly addicted to opioids or a type-2 diabetic?

@@rememberedoldbuddy3553 Sugar will give you diabetes in excess. Insulin is extreamly expensive in this country. Do you see the problem here?
Corporations are so powerful they are force feeding sugar down american mouths to increase insulin demand. If nothing stops it, the corporations will force everyone to suffer from it.
These same corporations are probably also the reason for the homelessness and loss of hope that caused such opioid addiction, and realistically, they probably also profit from it.

Vice telling it like it is. Educating the world one video at a time.

Multiple billion dollar industry , do you think they'll hurt people in order to keep making that money??
However, fresh fruit typically requires minimal preparation.
They market it to every single child. You can save that poorer ppl bs, every family is a victim

This is propaganda. Sugar is not a drug, and not addicting. Please use science next time. "In reality, while we might have developed hard-to-break habits, there is little evidence to suggest that sugar is addictive in the same way as tobacco, alcohol and other drugs. The theory that sugar is addictive is largely based on evidence from feeding studies conducted in animals."
