You have an organic way of presenting concepts and their practical application that makes learning from you very enjoyable. Thanks for sharing ... Cheers, Dave (new sub)
As someone who got into Forza for the first time by getting 4 on a sale a week ago, your videos are immensely helpful! I'm looking forward to playing the shit out of this game and getting onto 5 once I feel ready.
I just picked up FH4. Started out the gate with No breaking or steering assist. Traction control and stability control off. Shifting Manual w/ Clutch, using PS4 controller on PC. Love it.
Hey, you've done a fantastic job of commentating and teaching in this video! Very well done, I have to say. There is so much junk out there for people trying to teach something and they either don't know what to say or how to professionally speak it either. You are way above the rest. Cheers to you! Thanks.
it's really fun and you can shift faster than auto or manual w/out clutch if you find the golden spot between your last 500 rpm and the redline and don't release the gas when you shift.
One can really tell that you have fun making these videos, it really is very entertaining and interesting listening to you. Thanks for this great video!
Man you're a life saver, I've begun to actually control my car a lot more and I'm finding it way easier to drive the car now. Who knew manual is actually useful in this game lol, I remember when manual was only good when you had a wheel set up. :)
Dude. A HUGE thank you. From a new Forza player. I'm playing on the new Forza 5 and I watched your video which greatly improved my driving skills and fun with the game. You really helped me out. Thank you sir! 🤙
I seen your tuning video pop up in my recommended yesterday and clicked on it for later use as i really want to get deeper into racing games. Actually watched it today and it got me hooked into the game. Thanks for these videos and im sure many others also appreciate them. Ive always loved racing games but i was always the player flying thru corners at high speed or drifting because it looks cool. While wondering why i get passed. Realizing that smooth is fast has definitely got me more into the game. New sub
This video has greatly improved my driving ability immediately. I thought learning manual would be tough, since I've never used it before, but really it just took a few minutes driving around the map to get use to it. I'm not immediately amazing, but I can tell just following your advice has made a huge difference!
Yeah, manual shifting seemed scary to me at first but now I actually love it and find it way more fun than automatic! I still have no idea what to do with the clutch though, that version confuses me a lot. (edit: I know irl you need to use the clutch every time you shift but the Forza version seems to work differently than I expected and it's super difficult)
It's always nice to look back at the basic again. Sometimes there's just a thing that you forgot and it causes trouble because you neglected it. This is always be useful for that reason.
Thank you for the vid, I usually don't play with anyone else because of ramming but it's good to see someone giving a helping hand to those who are willing to learn
John Smith It doesnt have to do with “getting good”, when youre being hit by two or three cars at once. If all three are squeezing you out, going through a corner, youre going outside the checkpoint. You cant push them all around, you cant warp speed ahead, and sometimes you cant get behind them if there’s already a car blocking you in back.
TL;DR - Thanks! This really helped my racing! Full version: I've never been good at racing games, to the point I usually just avoid them. I tried Horizon 4 on a whim and loved how huge it was, but I still sucked at driving. I had to co-op most championship series' cause if I got 4th or 5th I considered myself lucky. Any corner 90 degrees or sharper I just resigned myself to hitting the wall (or another driver) and it became about trying to plan the hit right to knock someone off course, and myself back on course. Drifting is hopeless for me as I can't control it worth shit, and I just assumed drifting was the secret to the game. Anyway, since watching this video I went from averaging near the top of the bottom 3rd (around 8th in a 12 car race) and occasionally hitting 4th/5th, to pretty consistently managing 4/5 and sometimes getting higher. I obviously still have a lot of work to do, but just these few tips have already made a HUGE difference, since I'm no longer trying to either drift or smash my way through every corner.
Bro your vids are golden. I’ve been playing forza horizon 4 ever since it came out and when I started out I was all over the place and in automatic constantly. Now I can get 1st-3rd in most online lobbies and recently got in the top 1.6 percent of a drift challenge thanks to your great videos, keep it up!
Been playing on unbeatable with all assists off for a long time, this is a great tutorial and should help a lot of newer players learn how to run lines.
Dude, I dont know how to thank you enough with this techniques, With this I was able to defeat pro, before I was like having hard time smashing Highly Skilled. Thanks man!
Thank you Hoshi, this has helped me a lot [ like in real life on my motorcycle riding for a few years and after an accident in order to get my lic. back I had to take a course, they taught us the physics of riding, I'm a far better rider now]. Glad I discovered you before FH5. I just spent $3k on a driving rig and while I've already improved significantly over the last 2 weeks through practice, I'll be studying your videos like a lesson plan going forward. Fantastic work.
I've never played a racing game using manual transmission I've always been a automatic type player but for some reason your video got me to try and man the difference is amazing! After a couple hours I was flying through tracks with cars higher than S1 class without ramming the wall over and over again. I wont ever go back to auto after this. Great video!
@@Uncle_Glock Was thinking a bit about acceleration and braking. I struggle with the buttons a bit. I tend to go full on or off which is not most effective. Also gearing is my next thing to learn. Im just using auto and hope to go to shifting soon.
@@dgs127 since you struggle with accel and braking (which uses the triggers), you should practise enough to know how much you have to depress the trigger according to your car. going slow for a start is really helpful, its forgiving because low powered cars dont spin out as often but that doesnt mean you dont control the braking or accel strength of the car. i use the wheel and pedals, and from my exp its all about holding back on your input right at the moment you feel the car is starting to slip, at that point u can still save it and prevent it from oversteering. braking is actually the hardest to master, with sport/race brakes and sport tires/race tires, your braking strength can go up to 92%. accurately hitting this value on the first depress of your trigger will be achieved thru muscle memory! so practise. tl:dr practise on a slow car. for accel, never start on full depress. for braking, aim to depress to 90% of your trigger without needing to find out where that 90% is. im not sure if controller is calibrated the same as pedals, but basically 90% represents the pressure at which your wheels won't lock but you're braking hard.
Started playing this after seeing Forza youtube videos after playing nfs heat and I keep spinning out but thos video has helped quite a bit chuckled when you said some people just want to go fast as that is me so far.
about ideal lines: also take notice about what comes after the corner. because racing line its not about the shortest route around the track, but the fastest route. for example if its a straight line after a corner, you better get late apex so you will get the longest straight line as possible so you can get longer time on your maximum speed. but of course it will changed if what comes next is changed, also the grip level of track, also lateral G the car can handle picking when & how to turn is driver's ultimate skill
Could also be professional rammers who get 1st every race and doesn’t believe a word in the video. Very good explanation on a somewhat nuanced topic, maybe this will help keep turn 1 a little safer in the future

I had the profound privilege to attend a racing school many years ago and what I just witnessed with your video on translating good racing techniques to the Forza environment was treat to view. You have an organic way of presenting concepts and their practical application that makes learning from you very enjoyable. Thanks for sharing ... Cheers, Dave (new sub)
As someone who got into Forza for the first time by getting 4 on a sale a week ago, your videos are immensely helpful! I'm looking forward to playing the shit out of this game and getting onto 5 once I feel ready.
people have said 4 is the worst one of the bunch. id get 5 and play that so it doesnt affect the forza experience
I just picked up FH4. Started out the gate with No breaking or steering assist. Traction control and stability control off. Shifting Manual w/ Clutch, using PS4 controller on PC. Love it.
6:10 "you see the other guys? they follow that line. so if i go wide - like this, sometimes i beat them" - jann mardenborough (Gran Turismo)
I have just started playing Horizon 4 and I don't often play car games. This video was very helpful, thank you :)
Hey, you've done a fantastic job of commentating and teaching in this video! Very well done, I have to say. There is so much junk out there for people trying to teach something and they either don't know what to say or how to professionally speak it either. You are way above the rest. Cheers to you! Thanks.
Manual with clutch gang 😎😎😎💪🏾💪🏾💯
ya-yeet
Ayyy
it's really fun and you can shift faster than auto or manual w/out clutch if you find the golden spot between your last 500 rpm and the redline and don't release the gas when you shift.
It’s easy
Sheeeiit easy to play
watching good forza players makes me happy
One can really tell that you have fun making these videos, it really is very entertaining and interesting listening to you. Thanks for this great video!
I started 3 days ago, and instantly took to dirt/cross country. This helped with how I view circuit racing, and why I struggle with it.
Hoki: talks about smooth driving
keyboard players: aight we gonna head out
Im all or nothing baby!!!
The perfect controller is the Xbox search-for-controller button
Xbox and Forza first timer here (yeah a noob).
I'm extremely grateful for your videos bro. Just the content I was looking for, but way better.

It's sad that despite how good this video and advice is people are still going to ram me out of the way as I hit the apex in a hairpin
Steve get good
John Smith can really get good if you are rammed of the road and miss a checkpoint huh
Crazy geez88 get good mate
@@JohnSmith19282 get good
John Smith
It doesnt have to do with “getting good”, when youre being hit by two or three cars at once.
The quality of these videos is always outstanding! Keep it up man.
So what do you use manual or automatic?
J - Panio Plays always manual. You have much more control over the car.
@@skimz2012 thanks
Been playing on unbeatable with all assists off for a long time, this is a great tutorial and should help a lot of newer players learn how to run lines.
Dude, I dont know how to thank you enough with this techniques, With this I was able to defeat pro, before I was like having hard time smashing Highly Skilled. Thanks man!
Thank you Hoshi, this has helped me a lot [ like in real life on my motorcycle riding for a few years and after an accident in order to get my lic. back I had to take a course, they taught us the physics of riding, I'm a far better rider now]. Please do more of these. Your friend in gaming and life, Jim.
Thank you for improving our driving and making whole community better!
Cheers hoki. Another great video. Clearly narrated and well explained.
Hoki Hoshi is the ultimate driving game tutor. Thanks a lot for being here, Hoki.
Why hello
Thank you so much, this answered SO many questions I had that I was struggling to find decent answers to.
This should be a mandatory video to watch for all racing games.
All of this is super important if you want to play sim racers like Assetto Corsa or I-Racing.
Me: starts drifting
Cars: passes me
Me: goes to youtube and searched for this
I'm only just getting into these games, and your videos are all still incredibly valuable and relevant. Good on you!
Glad I discovered you before FH5.
I just spent $3k on a driving rig and while I've already improved significantly over the last 2 weeks through practice, I'll be studying your videos like a lesson plan going forward.
Fantastic work.
THIS is the video. Every other one I watched to improve was a bunch of menu selections and tune ups
Y'know, I play Gran Turismo, not Forza, but this is still super informative. Maybe i have to try out Forza Horrizon after all.
I've never played a racing game using manual transmission I've always been a automatic type player but for some reason your video got me to try and man the difference is amazing! After a couple hours I was flying through tracks with cars higher than S1 class without ramming the wall over and over again. I wont ever go back to auto after this. Great video!
Old man noob here and I really appreciate the tips. If you go in depth more can you explain the controller actions in just a bit more detail.
which actions?
@@Uncle_Glock Was thinking a bit about acceleration and braking. I struggle with the buttons a bit. I tend to go full on or off which is not most effective. Also gearing is my next thing to learn. Im just using auto and hope to go to shifting soon.
@@dgs127 are u using controller or keyboard?
@@Uncle_Glock controller
Rivals was my breakthrough in horizon 3. biggest help to my driving in the game.
"Dont drift"
Me who always drifts: *pain*
Rain without the \
S ame
Started playing this after seeing Forza youtube videos after playing nfs heat and I keep spinning out but thos video has helped quite a bit chuckled when you said some people just want to go fast as that is me so far.
“And finally, don’t drift. You want to be using as much grip as possible through a corner but not exceeding it”
Ken block: hold my beer
Drift = gz with last place in race.
🤣
He only wins because he doesn’t race anyone
That's why he was always in the last positions when he tried WRC; all the best rally drivers are very smooth.
I can see an exception when driving some cars in dirt tracks :P
THANK YOU. I've been looking for a video that explained exactly this. thank you for taking the time to explain it well. Cheers
Him : Giving realistic advices while being nice to people
Isad (Isuckatdriving) : I'm gonna end this man's whole carrer
about ideal lines: also take notice about what comes after the corner.
because racing line its not about the shortest route around the track, but the fastest route.
for example if its a straight line after a corner, you better get late apex so you will get the longest straight line as possible so you can get longer time on your maximum speed.
but of course it will changed if what comes next is changed, also the grip level of track, also lateral G the car can handle
picking when & how to turn is driver's ultimate skill
Your 1 dislike is from a butthurt troll.
You are amazing, please please keep this up. Your UA-cam fam is always thirsty!
I like to think my dislikes are just innocent misclicks 😅
Could also be professional rammers who get 1st every race and doesn’t believe a word in the video. Very good explanation on a somewhat nuanced topic, maybe this will help keep turn 1 a little safer in the future
Idk probably just frustrated people looking for answers in the wrong place. The majority of these videos reference in depth procedures fromnother videos of his. You either get it or you dont and when you dont get it you dislike the video because youre upset. And anyone who thinks thats unreasonable could offer constructive criticism but generally default to: lol git gud
Plus theres the manual with clutch gang apparently
nope its because he said dont drift
drift can be good tho in very narrow roads but it has a risk +(how you drift)
he needs more attention tho (and more subs)
Took me a while to understand that a more defensive and careful way of braking is a lot more effective than hitting the brake hard in the last second and sliding into the wall every.. single.. time. :D
Wall shaming here
@@sajeucettefoistunevaspasme Well actually as you can read in my comment I openly speak up against " ramming into walls " which means that I care about the walls a lot more than you do. Wall Lives Matter.
@@HiddenHunterSeven i Always drive along the walls
I don't why but it make the race 10 times slower but it's still better than not paying Achtung to them
slow is smooth, and smooth is fast
Thank... you... this improved my driving instantly no cap
'good breaking always starts before turning point' *cries above keyboard as S is full braking and you slide everywhere*
I'm using an 8bitdo controller and the triggers aren't analogue so I have the same problem as you :(
Just buy an aftermarket Xbox 360 wired controller for Windows, they aren't that expensive and they are an incredibly necessary purchase for PC gaming as most games are optimised for X360 input
I never understood how someone could even enjoy a race with a keyboard, seems like it would be very annoying
The slow cars thing is definitely good advice. Right from the start, I chose to go with lower class cars so that I can practice proper driving and race craft. Although, I'm going with an B class NSX, it's a lot more grounded than tooling around with some super car. Feels like a normal, everyday car, and I can tune it for each race.
great video, I hope you do post a part 2
Coming from Mario Kart to Forza, learning to not just floor it and drift everywhere is proving difficult
Could you do a defense/offense rule in racing games? I feel like it could be a very good video for people who don’t understand it! Great video!
I started playing FH4 and literally could not figure out how to brake and turn properly on corners. I’m so used to braking into a turn rather than before one in other games that the handling didn’t make sense to me. The fundamentals you go over here are extremely helpful; exactly the video I was looking for.
I still suck but after watching your videos, I suck way less. Thank you!
BA HET hope you continue to improve man!
I seem to like and be convinced over how you overtake these cars. Nice.
why does this feel like rocket science
You sir just got a new subscriber, love the videos, the editing, your easy on the ears and soothing voice makes it a joy to watch compared to the more "extreme " and roydy youtubers (im not naming any just to be a gentleman).
This tutorial video helped me and made me want to play more. Keep it up man great stuff😊
Ar12 his ass always yelling bout sum
You deserve more views dude!
Rivals is such a good feature. And it feels great to shave off time. Just today I broke into the top 15% of the Fortune Island downhill race in A-class.
This is a very good video. Simple things that will improve your times . Guaranteed.
Very similar to a vid I watched many years ago showing the same useful information and advice.
This will improve your times in all games past, present and future.
This is why I love this game, the blend of SIM and Arcade racer is perfect
fun and challenging at the same time 😀
I'd rather hit a drippy drift than study the geometry of a turn in relation to the moon or whatever you were talking about
I went from gran turismo to forza and the shift in other players driving skill is crazy, yall need more of these videos 😂😂
love your videos they have all been helpful :)
Thank you!! I’m a not-so-good Forza driver and I’m really looking forward to trying your techniques
I've played from horizon 1 but im still watching this and i don't know why
Dude what an amazing video, you are really great at explaining things
Hell yeah new video, great tips!
Love this, i'd recommend this to anyone that wants to get into racing! Amazing job mate
Saw this on reddit, Nice video
Hey Hoki, this is the first video i have ever seen of yours, and although I have been comfortably racing on the "unbeatable" setting since Forza Motorsport 4, it was fun to see how others explain just how they race and explaining how more novice drivers can improve themselves. I always like to think of GRIP as being a major factor. Tires, suspension, and a good clutch/gearbox are some of the key elements for any car in any class. I really enjoyed this video as it provided me with a different viewpoint of how beginner racers see things.
