Especially cause Belt Balancers (at least used to) absolutely destroy ups. I think it uses some unoptimized division math in combination with the way belts work add up to poor performance if you use a lot of them
My favorite part of belt balancers is how im afraid of touching them after setting them up. I once put another output belt going from one and my game crashed. PTSD since then.
@@Trupen ...and if you feed 5 loaders into 5 stackers and then merge the output, you can create a packed belt from a single merged chest/warehouse/etc., which is *VERY* handy when offloading with the bulk unloader. (As a bonus, it is *dead* easy to do balanced bulk unloading. All you need to do is have a single math combinator that divides the total ore in the bulk unloaders by their number, then use that to turn the belt segments just after the loaders on and off.)
5:35 bobs adjustable inserters is superior and not op since you still have to research 1 tech boost for *ALL* inserters multiple tiers of research and at the end, control all in and out in a 3x3 square, has its own UI
instead of belt balancer mod I prefer to use the merging chests mod (with the unlimited mod-addon) as well as any loader mod of your choice, as the ups performance is much better and can be used in larger bases with no issues
i have a few more suggestions myself since the last video as well: 1. there's a lot of different "group" mods that sort your crafting menu nicely. if you have a lot of mods that add a lot of different items, such as a lot of different kinds of ammunition, or a ton of new liquids, new vehicles, or new circuit network components, try adding the Ammo Group, Barreling Group, Schall Transport Group, and Schall Circuit Group mods. reduces a lot of clutter in your crafting menu for easier viewing and faster finding of items. 2. inserter throughput is a very simple mod that just shows you the ideal throughput of inserters. 3. Pick It Up is a mod that automatically picks up the items an inserter has dropped onto the ground when you mine it 4. Smart Belt Immunity provides a new power armor module that applies the Belt Immunity effect but only when you're moving against a belt you're walking on 5. Flashlight Pointer makes your character automatically turn to face in the direction that you hover your mouse cursor over an entity of. 6. Biter Expansion Notifications informs of you when and where biters expand. maybe a little cheaty, but extremely useful for helping you track down that last little biter nest that you are just struggling to find out in the middle of nowhere that keeps re-expanding all over the place, and also helps you keep track of how quickly and frequently they expand so you can adjust your priorities. 7. Landfill everything gives you a button that you can click Blueprints ontop of and it will automatically fill every tile in the blueprint that has something on it with landfill, so you can paste the blueprint down over water much more easily. here's one non-QOL mod that ive come to really like. well, it's really more like a set of mods: i would highly recommend experimenting with any of Brevven's ore mods. they range from adding things like aluminum and silica to lead, graphite, titanium, and even tungsten. these mods are kind of a double-edged sword: while they _do_ generally make things harder because you have to have more resources and craft more intermediary products, it also helps simplify things some because less things use the same resource, so there are more of each resource to go around for everything. these mods very naturally build ontop of base Factorio unlike a lot of other drastically game-changing mods imo. these mods also come hand-in-hand with Brevven's Foundry mod which adds a new building for more complex smelting recipes but also has massively improved throughput compared to normal Furnaces, so some of the products they create, if they were made in a normal Furnace, would be much slower and require many more Furnaces. Foundries sort of make up for this by being quite large, though.
Some I can recommend in return are Auto Manual Mode, Combinator fast replace and Combinator priority, Filter Helper, Force Inventory Insert, Inventory repair, Landmine Gridlock, Vehicle Corpses
"PasteSignals by PFQNiet" oh shit that's my mod! I just threw it together because I was using circuits to calculate stuff and wanted to paste the result into another combinator, glad to see it's getting some use by others! :D
I recently started a modded playthrough with a few of these (based on being a "caravan" instead of a factory), and am enjoying it! This is my mod list - Todo list (objectives and achievements log) - Advanced solar high res (compact but costly solar panels) - Alien biomes (more biomes!) - Auto-deconstruct (marking empty miners) - Bottleneck (viewing which machines work) - Change map settings (to amplify biome changes) - Factorio library (foundation mod) - Disco science (discooo!) - Loader redux (costy, but faster than inserters) - MF base (foundation mod) - Mobile factorissimo (smelter car, storage car, solar wind car!) - Mobile factory (the core of the mod : a factory inside a tank) - Mobile factory graphics (graphics part) - Nightfall (raised biter activity at night) - Resource spawning overhaul (tweaking resource patch rates) - Searchlight (no damage turret, lights up instead) - Squeak through (for jam-packed factory) - The ruins mod (stumbling upon resources) - Updated construction drones (why hand build?) I put the resource patches a bit wider but a lot shallower, forcing you to "drain" a patch and keep moving, thus enabling alien biomes, nightfall, and ruins to interact with your mobile factory. Do recommend!
Solar panels (and accumulators) have practically no UPS cost, as all solar panels are treated as a single solar panel. In fact, having advanced solar panels would probably _increase_ the UPS cost as more types of entity would need to be updated.
Bro that sponsor was better than the feeling you get from finishing your first smelting array XD also hyped for the next upload in however long it takes for factorio 2 to come out
First time I've ever ENJOYED the sponsor ad. Also, its great to know that I can now make a To Do List in Factorio and "ignore it like in real life". Perfect.
Some of my favorite mods are included in the Krastorio mod pack. Stuff like the Warehouses, "super" fluid storage, the loaders, and more. I want them on their own because I feel like it'll make playing Factorio core so much more fun and probably chaotic lol. (Yes I said core + mods, by Core I mean using the aforementioned mods outside of Krastorio which is fun on its own but sometimes I don't wanna research what coal is and spend a millenia burning sticks before mastering antimatter)
Space Exploration has deep core miners built into it also i know most of the waterfill mods now block you from deleting structures and creatures with waterfill, of course you can get around this by using older versions of the waterfill mods
8:00 _OBJECTION!_ Vanilla solar panels do not have any UPS cost. (The game simply tracks how many are on an electric network and multiplies that by what their current power output should be due to time of day. You can't get cheaper than that, you can add as many as you want for zero additional "cost.")

the problem is, that mod is bob, and bob mods are infamous for adding extra intermediate products. Many players hate intermediate products with a passion, and using side inserters lets you play free of any bob mods. One of the core mods I play with is one that changed chips to use copper instead of wire, while requiring significant more copper than vanilla per chip to compensate for the no longer needed processing step.
@@Debbiebabe69 Bob's inserters are a standalone mod that don't do anything but improve what you can do with inserters. No recipes are changed, nothing is added.

Not directly related to the video, but I was just adding blue circuits to my shiny new Main Bus and started laughing because I made a big _square_ of 40 assemblers, and that was when I truly realized what Factorio is all about.
I love your voice so much lol, I spent like 5 minutes trying to figure out what finding the radio to my base is when I realized it was you saying ratio (ray - shee - o btw). your Factorio content is awesome keep it up!
8:00 You don't save UPS having less but more powerful solar panels. The game actually calculate every solar panel as one entity for every solar panel. Same for accumulators. Finally! New video! New mods! Awesome! Btw, Clash of Clans ad? But it was awesome! Wanted to watch it till the end, and this game is not some garbage that many others youtubers advertise, so more respect to you!
That belt balancer (the entirely yellow one) is horrendous for UPS, to the point where it shouldn't be recommended by anyone. Just ask Martincitopants how long it took to redo his base because of it, during his space exploration series.
Having played a LOT of modded minecraft skyblock (and variants like stoneblock or oceanblock), the concept is actually extremelly similar to the one in factorio's seablock, except you get your resources by silting crushed rocks (aka gravel, sand and dust) to get fractions of ores and minerals, which can then be combined to create a complete ore/mineral (which is way faster and less complex than wth you have to do in vanilla skyblock)
I would live to know how trupen feels about the big factorio dlc and free update that actually adds quite a few of the things he feels like he wants to be base game, become basegame
For those who still don't know what Factorio is: Factorio is a game where instead of eating spaghetti to forgetti your regretti you make more spaghetti and along with more regretti 😊
The Warehouse mods or other large chest mods are harsh on UPS, though you probably won't run into that issue until you get to megabase level. Something with the way that Factorio handles chests where it checks every slot of it or something?
Just FYI, I've had some serious optimisation issues when using the repair turrets mod. It's fine until you get construction bots that can fulfil repair duties, but once you get them they tank the game
