Shane i am a kickboxer i have been doing it for a couple of years now. Recently i have started boxing but the problem is my distance keeping is way of because in kickboxing i keep a longer distance because of kicks you know. Any tips?(great video and channel BTW i have learned a lot)
At 5'6" and a beginner in my 2nd week of training any type of combat sport, closing distance and cutting angles has totally perplexed me. Thanks for explaining the movement slow, clear and concise. Cant wait to get on the inside of the mostly taller training partners.
Can't thank you enough for this. I got MAULED on my first sparring session because I was fighting a taller guy with great reach and push kicks. I didnt get close, when I did I lost my guard and panicked. Bad fight, but many things to learn from that. So this vid will help me out.
I had to defend myself a couple days ago in a street fight against a guy 2x my weight. I'm 125lbs and this huge guy shoved me and started a fight, I threw about 3 counter punches at him but they were an inch away because I have short reach and this guy was a gorilla, he then came at hella quick and grabbed a hold of sweatshirt and tried throwing me everywhere on concrete and trying to hit me at the same time. When that was over we exchanged a couple more punches and it was done. I got a couple scrapes from the concrete but walked away with zero marks on my face, he landed one little shot to the back of the head when he was grabbing my sweatshirt. Thank you for all the tactics Shane and Vince and these videos definitely help people stay safe, I've been watching fighttips for 2 years and I seriously could of got hurt if I didn't.
Hey buddy, upwards & onwards. Take some time off from illuminated screens (phone, computer, tv) and rest your brain. Focus your mind and when you're feeling better after a few days, start to rebuild -- stronger and better than ever before!

Shane and Vince...love these fight tips. Would this strategy also work for a good counter puncher? If not could you both make a video with strategies for that type of fighter?
This is a very helpful video bc I'm 5'6 with a 5'7 wingspan and my best friend (and only real training partner) is 5'11 with a 6'3 wingspan so reach is always a problem for me

Hey. My name is also Shane and I have been having a lot of trouble with the kids at my school (McColl South Carolina) they are always pushing me around and saying stuff about the time I lost a fight in 7th grade. I don’t even know how it was considered a fight because I have IBS(food takes longer to digest) so I was laying beside a tree before the fight even started. This bigger kid walked up to me and swung four times and missed each time. Every time I moved out the way of his punches,I told him I didn’t feel like fighting. He managed to slam me and I got up and walked away. Ever since then the kids will not leave me alone. They push me. Hit me. Kick me. Cuss at me because the way I dress, what I believe, the music I listen to and the fact that I would luv to be in the ufc if I don’t get my own rock band. It’s really starting to make me mad and I have already tried to control the situation without fighting by telling my parents and teachers,it didn’t help. I’m 14 years old and I’m about 5’5. This video was extremely helpful. This is most definitely one of my favorite channels :)
I had a similar experience. The difference was that I had no fear of fighting. I wanted to fight the assholes. But being fearless didnt help as I was dumb and at a disadvantage(short height, lol). I played their game with their rules and lost the fight. And they only left me somewhat alone after they felt a serious revenge was coming because they injured me. My first advice is for you to change schools. There are always better people somewhere else. If you can't change schools, here's my second advice. Let me tell you, they won't stop until they feel like you are on their ass, ready to retaliate for the shit they've done. Don't walk right in to the fight though, take some time to prepare. Say to yourself, "I will prepare for a whole year, lifting weights, sparring, doing bodyweight exercises, watching fight videos and practicing them, only then I will retaliate." Everything they do within this preparation period will be your fuel that keeps you going. Do not hesitate to feel anger. Be mad angry at them and be serious about it. Look them straight in the eye when they look at you. Don't try to say anything. Just look at them as if you've seen a very sick person in need of help. Do not threaten them in anyway, they will gain the upper hand. When they threaten you just say "I wish the best." Try to record their threats with your phone. This will be evidence later. If they mock you ignore them. You are better than this. If they are much bigger than you, then what they want is an easy ticket to being badass by beating someone up. Do not let them turn you into an anonymous victim of their badass fight story. Still do the preparation, but when they show up for a fight, do not expect an honest fight and go straight for the eyes, neck, sternum, maybe groin. I know Shane gives some good tips, but it rarely works against someone taller. Look at boxing and kickboxing matches, the taller guy almost always wins. If you are short what is gonna work for you is wrestling, judo or sambo. I know in America there is wrestling available in school. Go join them. If your health condition prevents you from doing sports, go to Judo Bjj or Sambo classes because you can do throws and tackles without the extreme bodily effort wrestling demands. If they jump you, go for the biggest guy or if they look the same go for the "leader" of the group. I know that ground fighting with more than 1 opponent is a bad strategy so go for the maximum damage to the guy you are on the ground with. Then move on to next opponent if you can. Or, for example, when you have a rear naked choke on someone, you can order his friends to leave you alone by telling them you might choke their friend a little more than necessary. Be gentle with your speech too, theres no need for being psycho :D After all, this is self defense right? I know this has been long, but I wanted to save someone from making the same mistakes as I did. I still suffer from those mistakes two decades later. The best way is to stay off from the fight. I didnt. If I knew anything about basic wrestling and judo throws and proper guard to block punches, maybe I would have been fine. Maybe. Again, best way is to never get involved. The motto is: HOPE FOR THE BEST, PREPARE FOR THE WORST. For you to prepare for the worst, I will direct you to two good videos for you to develop an understanding of how human body can be used to make someone fall. Most of us dont know how. We are like dogs which dont know how to bite. Thats why we are easily bullied by low iq modern cavemen trash. The first video is named SAMBO SERGEI GROMOV. Second video is named TONY LOPEZ DIRTY STREET FIGHTING SAMBO. Both are 40 minute-ish videos. Go check them out and practice them with a friend. Remember these are only for you to get an idea about fighting and possibly eliminating an enemy. You still have to look at ground fighting, suplex techniques, defense against suplex, defense against punches and slams and many more. If you are shorter and lighter, hip throws, lifting throws and pulling throws won't easily work. Tackles should work fine. Sacrifice throws should work if you have powerful legs. Last but not least, decide on your bread and butter combo to use in a fight, it should be low risk and high reward. If you decide on what you are going to do in a fight before, you won't freeze up during action. For example, hands covering your face, go for a single leg takedown and leg sweep, then kick to the belly(ribs or head can be fatal) or kneebar. If you do enough research and sparring, you will develop unimaginably in the next 6 months. Add weight training and sparring, you should be able to defend yourself pretty well against an average school bully who hasnt had any training in martial arts or doesnt have a ton of experience in street fighting. Never underestimate your opponent. And avoid toxic friends and idiots who make you a target for bullies! Many bullies have enemies and are looking for people to use as revenge-takers. If they were actually powerful they would have stood up to the bullies in the first place. You dont want to get marginalized. Find good friends. Be a good friend. But always remember you are alone in this life. Dont trust anybody to do your work for you. My best friend didnt help when I was getting jumped and stomped in front of his eyes. If you have any more questions ask me. Im sorry if i write alot :D I wish the best for you bro :)
