Being 6 foot 5, this is extremely useful.
Finally that 7 foot 3 guy at my gym won't know what hit him.
Being 6 foot 2, this is extremely useful.
Everyone in the Netherlands is taller than me
lemme guess, he's a muay thai guy

Anyone can watch a video... that's your motivation to TRAIN.
Even if you watch this video 1000 times you won't know shit unless you actually train and spar.
yeah most people don't implement the great advice this dude gives

No, if you watch this video once you will know the basics of fighting a taller opponent.

i reconmend looking into muay thai if you are at such a low height. As for me, i reply on low kicks against taller opponents
Im not sure about this but isn't your back foot supposed to be forward and not off to the side?
lol same
@@shc7175 no when you twist your hips into your punches that's when you twist your foot straight then back.
Sir Lemon forward is better for jumping in and out but off the side is more balance and if you kick it’s better to throw a kick with your lead one
These techniques are so hard to remember when you're in the heat of the moment.
But I'm gonna apply these techniques to the best of my knowledge.
Do a lot of sparing while using these techniques, and eventually they will come naturally
Drill them over and over and over and soon it’ll become natural
@@fortemusic167 thanks.
you'll never remember anything in a fight. thats why you train train train, get the muscle memory down and your body moves for you

How to beat a taller fighter. Be Mike Tyson.

Or Manny pacquiao
Kelvinator22 exactly! Tyson was the king of this
no one can be like mike tyson
@@sietsegroenen8536 u can do what he did tho
Gonna try this on wed, I'm 5'4 and always go up against dudes that are 5'11 to 6 ft tall. I can get in and land my hits but I tend to take a lot of shots getting there.
Try to remain on the inside blasting them. Mike Tyson style.
The bigger question is why are you fighting dudes with over 5 inches in height
@@byob7728 Ikr? Unless hes a small mountain of muscle and they r ramen noodles stretched out then wtf lol
Same but my friend doesn’t have boxing experience but I do but still nervous bc the difference I. Height
you have a huge advantage as a short guy, your dexterity and more compressed mass density allows for much more impact as quicker speeds, more explosion. Your only big disatvantage is range and we all know that distance is a very shaky variable in fights
Being a short person means that everyone is taller than me
Well if you're small and weigh normally then you're probably going to be the same height as your opponents in competition
Get inside their jab even if their a girl or a doctor or a driving instructor....

Thanks Shane and Chris!! This was a really cool and useful lesson. I've got this one sparring partner who is taller than me and always beating me. Haven't figured out what to do. But from here I got some really great tools. Hopefully we can spar tomorrow and I can try this stuff with my brand new headgear on!!
i'm exciting to see the video! I just came back from the training and i sparred with someone who's taller than me!
Amazing content Shane! Algieri is a masterful boxer. Please bring more of this with other guys.
Awesome Job Shane! Big Thank you! Big UP Chris. This channel Rocks.
This video was super informative! Thank you Shane and thank you Chris! Chris should be an analyst or have his own gym or something.

That feel when you're a tall fighter watching this vid so you know the short fighters tricks
Ahahahahahahaha true. Im 6 feet tall fighting at 135, so every opponent is much shorter than me. I was debating between watching a vid on tips about how to fight a shorter opponent, but than... reverse psychology ahahahahah

@@liskadriu7048 be careful man I hope you’re getting good nutrition I don’t want you to break anything
@@liskadriu7048 bro you good?? I'm 5'7 and 135 is my normal BMI
Awesome stuff, sir. That lead hand disruption was something I never thought of. Great video and great instruction.
THANK YOU, CHRIS!!!!!!! The first tip you gave was nearly the opposite of what I had understood to be the normal strategy against taller opponents; and it has made my ability handle taller guys so, so much better. I have very long arms for my height, so I have developed a long game that works well against people my size, but whenever I sparred with someone bigger, I found myself trying to use a style that I'm not comfortable with. I don't bob & weave and stay in the pocket like Tyson. But just by peppering their guard with straights and high kicks I have found that they no longer hang out just outside my range and inside of their where they can pick their shots. Instead, they hang out OUTSIDE both of our ranges and dart in; allowing me to use the same counter strikes I normally use with smaller guys!
I really enjoyed this video - I spar in kickboxing (not too experienced yet) and although i'm 6ft tall, I end up fighting people a few inches taller than me and it definitely brings up challenges of getting to the angle and distance where i can safely start landing some decent shots. A big problem i run into is getting flustered and overwhelmed when the taller opponent starts smothering me and landing shot after shot, even if I guard up it's hard to get out of there and find my bearings again. It's very disorienting.
Do you have any tips for getting out of those moments ?
The tips are useful however there was one thing that was overlooked. You don't always have to go forward and cut the distance as the shorter fighter. You can let the taller fighter come to you using educated footwork and give up his own reach. In this video Chris talked about Floyd Mayweather vs Diego Corrales and Floyd did exactly that. Stayed away from Diego and every time he gave up his reach Floyd was connecting. Another great fight where the shorter man won by moving laterally and backwards was the Terrence Crawford vs Victor Postol fight. Cheers!
HE'S PUTTING THOSE EDUCATED FEET TO GOOD USE!
Basically the most important thing I took from this is use your jab to distract the taller man while your trying to get in while protecting your head with either your other hand or head movement and then go ham on him from inside is reach for has long has you can because their punches from close are generally weaker.

5:45 counter with an overhand right, watch Wanderlei Silva vs Kazushi Sakurabu.
Chris would make an awesome coach, bright guy like shane
Probably one of the greatest videos you've done
Great video thanks for sharing the knowledge.
There are so many videos on how to fight taller opponents, what about the guys like me who are 6'1 and 143 pounds (I normally fight at super lightweight) where you don't see many people who are that tall. Would be really great to see a video like that. ;)
I guess Chris learned this from PACMAN.
Great video bro! Huge fan and love the content. Keep up the great work!
1. Jab the lead hand to shift opponents weight to the back foot and force him to throw his rear.
2. Going past the jab to get into closer range.
3. Keeping opponents lead hand bussy and using head movement to distract your opponent of the fact that you passed the critical distance line
4. Slip to the outside of the taller opponents jab and throwing your own jab.
5. Changing levels and throwing a jab to the taller opponents body.
Pause at 0:00 The dude to the right is like Mmm bring them flapjacks over here gurrrl.
Super useful for a lot of people. Half of all people are shorter than the other half.
I’ve learned so much watching you and these videos man, thank you
Shane! This is a gold! Thank you and the boxing champ for the video!
Does algieri still compete? Pretty jacked for a boxer too
I'm shorter than most and I've found that it makes for an excellent advantage for scooping up people's legs.
That depends, if you go straight for the legs, it won't work if he is planted. If you do a little misdirection though, it would. For example, if you manage to get on the inside, Go for a throat grab with your left arm so his focus is there, but then put your body weight with the momentum, and try to sweep his legs out if his he is not in stance where his legs are too far apart.
great pointers , thanks for the top notch content
This is a great video. even Before I watched it I realised that ducking low body jabs and jabbing when your taller opponent jabs works really well. Can't wait to try jabbing their lead hand more
Boxing has evolved Its alot more outside fighting
I thought chris was gonna have a Tripple H type voice😂
Monkei Boi Honest to Gosh, that bandana made me think he was Axl Rose from Guns N' Roses.
Chris A, that was a really great tutorial! Beautiful break-down & analysis! - DJ
Thanks fight tips just got out of my first ring match and it happened to be against a taller opponent! I stayed inside and used my power his range was a big disadvantage! Great vids man!
Well anyone wondering what's the actual result i got my ass beaten.
I'm 5'7 and the dude was 6'2
You gotta prioritize body shots more. Power hooks to the ribs and power cross to the solar plexus.
Moe Murda yes that’s what I’m saying people always focus on the head but them body shots can do damage.
practice a lot of squats and try some variations like pistol squats to get used to getting low and a lot of lateral side to side movements and always trust your best punch which you feel youre good at
When you can grapple, I'd recommend going for throws. With most of them, you need to get your centre of mass below that of your opponent, so when you're smaller, your opponent will have a much harder time.
Excellent Video!!! Get this guy back again !
Great tips. I appreciate you keeping it real!
Chris should do a UA-cam channel
This Helped me I Actually Beat Tf outta Bro 😂😂😂🤯 thanks Shane

Chris is a great teacher and presenter.
I'm going to practise these techniques.
Great info! Keep up the good work.
Chris is 5'10 and shane is 5'8 2 inch difference is nothing bring out someone that is 6'5 or more
Mate I don't think if you fight in a weight class according to your height, the difference would be that much in height. If you're talking about street fight then it's another thing.
@@jasmeetb83 Well its kinda obvious most people watching this don't take classes or they would learn there so if they get in a fight its gonna be completely random.
Could be below or way over their weight class.
But look at the reach advantage tho it’s insane difference
Guy has long arms there is no way that’s a 2 inch reach , that’s attleast a 4-5 inch
Height isn't as important as reach Mayweather is 5'8 but reach is 6'1
What if you're fighting Spence?😼
That was Awesome! Great job Chris
Great video!! I will use these tips in my next sparring session
i bet algieri learned this from pacquiao
Algieri vs Viktor postol
Super video, great insights!

Can you make a video about, how to fight a fat opponent?
(more muscles and weight)
GameTalk He did!
GameTalk move slowly around the ring for few minutes then he's gonna get dehydrated.
really ? i cant find it, can you link it ?
GameTalk use your jab a lot and use footwork to pivot around so your not stuck in the pocket
stay mobile. use the jab and straight and avoid getting grabbed

Daniel Cormier should have watched this video 😷
Bruce Blumenthal he did, he's the one who disliked the video.
Bruce Blumenthal he did, forgot about kicks tho
Daniel was getting inside of Jon's range and clipped him up for 2 rounds...was up 2 rounds before getting caught so id say he did well dick head
he did not have two rounds in he bag, go watch the fight instead of talking bullshit
Bruce Blumenthal that statement makes it obvious that you dont fight, and definitely know nothing about fighting.
Thanks, now my dad stands no chance

how'd that go. btw i'm short too. 5'4" adult
Thank you Chris! Great tips. More please
Great minds think alike. I was just talking about this same topic this morning. Thanks for the knowledge!!
I see he's out of his cage....but on a serious note, Algieri is a better boxer than people give him credit for

Not sure I'll ever need this being 6'6" and the most probable threat being foreigners but maybe I'll encounter a giant turk...
Tyson Fury is out to get ya!
great stuff. thank you for the video.
probebly your best video yet
keep it up shane
So... What if I'm taller than my opponent?
It's pretty much implied, and stated, in the video what the taller person needs to do along with the shorter person. Keep distance, work the jab often and tie up if the shorter guy gets in close.
Watch Thomas Hearns!
Use your punches as a defense and use different footworks. With these two you will have great zoning defense that shorter guy won't be able to go in most of the time.
Get that ass whooped
Probe strat
what about combos??... It's really hard to use a combo if your opponent is Taller.
Rohit Goswami legs kicks is optional but be smart about using Leg kicks because me and my twin were sparring and I leg kicked him then we wrestle me out. Also... Do a Over hand
Reason 4000 why a great jab is the best weapon in fighting…..excellent video.
Great video Shane!! you the man
It's over Shane, I have the high ground.
Did anyone here ever watch manny Pacquaio vs Chris Algieri ohh dat was nasty 🤢
