I'm going to buy one of these right now for my 84-year-old neighbor who struggles with getting the ice out of traditional ice cube trays. She's got pretty bad arthritis in her wrists and hands and can't easily "twist" the ice cube tray to knock the ice cubes out. She's often embarrassed to ask me to knock out her ice cube trays when I go visit her. This one I think would work terrific for her - just simply press on the lid! I have a variant of this that I got from Amazon. It was just a bit more luxe, as it came with TWO ice scoops and a small pair of ice tongs, if you're gonna be scrupulously sanitary. It works as advertised, but if you're gonna stack everything together, it will take longer for the ice to freeze, and notably the bottom tray will take longer than the top. Everything should be frozen in 18 hours or so, sooner if you lay out the trays in the freezer like you normally would. I don't, 'cause the compactness of the whole affair is a definite plus. I've found that it's best to let the trays thaw for five minutes before dumping them out in the basket (bucket?). It just loosens things up a bit so you're not getting so much of a workout trying to pop the cubes. Even so, for some reason one tray will give it up easier than the other. Go fig. All in all, though, I've never had a better experience using ice cube trays! 👍 Oh, and to get perfectly clear ice, I think you have to boil the water you're gonna use first, of course letting it cool to room temperature before pouring it in the trays. I bought a set of three silicon ice cube trays, with individual covers, on Amazon for around the same price. They work great and have regular size cubes. All silicon trays release much easier if you let them sit at room temp for a few minutes first. This is why the second tray empties much easier. One thing I find interesting is that the ice cubes I make with regular tap water here in Montreal are clearer than even the ones you made with distilled water. But we have excellent quality tap water here in Montreal, in fact I would put it up against any bottled water on the market. This ice tray seems to be well worth the money, however, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if I needed one.
I watched this video when you released it, and immediately ordered it. Been using it for a couple of weeks now and this thing is nothing short of amazing! We love it. Thank you so much for posting the video. We would never have gotten it otherwise.
I have one of these and have been quite happy with it! Rather than waiting I just run the bottom of the trays under a little cold water to loosen the cubes and it makes them pop out effortlessly The bin is handy because I can keep it topped up with ice and use the trays for a new batch; so much so the trays won't stack but its a small price to pay for convenience. Granted you could do that with any old bowl or bin but its perfectly sized to fit in the door. Also I can confirm as a negative it does take longer to freeze, but I haven't run out of ice before more was ready. May not be great if you go through a lot of ice a day though
Thanks for a positive review! I could use something like this! We make multiple batches of ice all day long and could use this setup. We would skip the distilled water part as we use 2 gal/week for 2 CPAP machines, and sinus saline rinses, plus our tap water is filtered in the kitchen. Since I have a plastic bin to hold the ice, I could use my bin for food storage again.
I bought the triple layer one and while I agree with some of the negative comments in that it rakes linger to freeze I love the size, love the bucket and that it had a lid.
I think I might actually try to catch this one if it goes on a slight sale - Two trays alone is more than enough for my family, and the fact that the tub can hold up to 4 trays while you're still able to make 2 more? And the cubes are begging to fall out? That's pretty dang good! It's so simple too.
Some people like to crunch ice, so smaller cubes are preferable. Also it doesn’t smack you in the face with a big ice burg when you take a drink! Another reason people might like smaller cubes is to avoid watering down their drink too much :)
I have this ice tray and it's great, only gripe is if you have ice in the storage already I guess it freezes the closest tray harder and it's much harder to release so you'll have to wiggle it and slam it to release those but the very top tray will release very easily. It's also true that it takes longer to freeze the water but it's fine if you're not in a rush.
Putting the ice trays in the freezer with the storage container allows for more cold air to hit the bottom tray, which allows all of the cubes to freeze faster. If you put the trays in the freezer without the container, you won't get as much cold air hitting the bottom. It's not really necessary if you don't have any time constraints.
I actually have this ice cube tray. I love it. I think the ice cubes are just the right size for using in my Vitamix for smoothies. I drink a kefir smoothie one or two times a day. The bigger Ice Cube's do not blend as well.
I think the half-moon ice cubes my freezer makes has lead to killing my blender. I still allow it to sit in my counter, for some reason, because it does have a little blending power but unless I'm going to use it to help with thickening soups (pour a little of the soup in a blender, then add it back to the pot), I think I need to say goodbye to it. I'll make sure to pay more for a better blender that will last longer.
Well you’ve done it now. Not only did I buy this before the end of the video but my best friend did too. Thank you for this fine video and all your other ones too

Here's a problem scenario I could envision happening: You are running low on ice, so you refill the trays with water and place the whole thing back in the freezer. I see things on here I never even knew existed lol. Had I of known about that ice set I would of bought it, but I have since got a new fridge with an ice maker so I no longer need those.
The only way to make clear ice is to go big. The impurities in water that become cloudy in ice are always the last to freeze. What you do is fill a cooler with water then stick it in the freezer. it will freeze from top down, and as long as you pull it out before the bottom is frozen you'll get perfectly clear ice.
It's not impurities that cause ice cloudiness, it's air in the water coming out of solution as the water freezes. The cloudiness is tiny air bubbles and pretty much nothing else. The only reason the distilled water cubes were a little clearer is it was bottled and therefore the water wasn't able to absorb air.
Other, older, ice-gadget reviews of yours were recommended to me today and I (re)watched them. I ask again: Why is the ice cube tray a device we're trying to re-invent?
This feels like an episode of Afro Samurai, where the dollar store ice tray has the number 1 headband for a very long time, and now, this double decker ice tray has caught up to claim the number 2 headband.
Little bit of broth with a little bit of water mixed up pour it in there and your four-legged kid will thank you for it. It's their version of a popsicle.
I'm rather shocked, not at how well this works, but at how many people apparently don't have fridges with built in ice makers. Ok, I am rather shocked at how well it works, lol.
Even if you bought a fridge with an ice-maker, chances are the ice-maker won't live as long as the fridge. They're finicky beasts. You can get a repairman out, but you start to realize you're paying hundreds of dollars to repair something that could be replaced with $2.50 from Dollar Tree.
I prefer the old philco traditional ice cube trays that you twist to get the ice out. Even the vintage metal ones you pull the lever to get the ice out.

Yesterday gave away an ice-making machine....Thank you for this..can't wait to get ! Will be perfect for ice I put in Yeti thermos & the water gulps needed due to fans blowing through the night,,, Seriously encouraged... Thanks so much !
I see things on here I never even knew existed lol. Had I of known about that ice set I would of bought it, but I have since got a new fridge with an ice maker so I no longer need those.
I really don't care if it's distilled or not ice is ice. It colds the same.
Frozen poop would cool your water
I literally saw one of these yesterday and immediately thought you needed to review it.
Yes! Finally an ice tray that works!
I have some of the reusable Brookstone n'ICE cubes from somewhere and i love them.
You definitely need to keep the container in the freezer once it's full of ice cubes lol
I CAME FOR THE HIYAS!! AND STAYED FOR A POTENTIAL BAILEY SIGHTING 😅😊 BOTH ARE WONDERFUL
Funny you posted this today, just a few hours ago I was recommended your "worst ice maker" vid lol
An actual good new ice tray? I'm honestly surprised.
What if you want some of the ice in the container while water is in the trays above? Too much hassle.
Nice, but hope they have a bigger size cube option, or maybe the long strip where you can easily insert in a bottle.
for years I been looking for a good one. I bought this because if this review. couldn't be happier with it, thanks :D
👍 That I'd a good example of 'reinventing' the wheel
103 in Saint Louis with crazy humidity... Watching ice videos is very cathartic ATM.
My fridge is 30 years old. Long before ice makers
And I use silicone ice trays that work perfectly.
Very nice demonstration. Thank you.
It only took three years but the dollar-store tray has finally encountered a worthy opponent!
Nice to finally see an ice cube maker that isn't completely overpriced trash.
I own this and like it. It is easy to get the ice out of the tray
James....the OG ice ice 🧊 baby 👶 great video as always 👍 Happy Wednesday
All I can say is I do really like mine. The smaller square ice cubes also cool the liquid faster and do not create dams while you are drinking.
I prefer the old philco traditional ice cube trays that you twist to get the ice out. Even the vintage metal ones you pull the lever to get the ice out.
