  • Terroir Talks with Jean-Baptiste Bachelet: Murgers refers to the piles of stones taken out of the vineyard and dents de chien - cliff like dogs teeth. We are on the hill of Rachet - ie Montrachet and just behind this climat is Puligny Champs Gain. We are quite high 280-340m South/East exposure, little bit of wind a peaceful place, quite warm, but not as warm as En Remilly. The subsoil is limestone, but the top soil is very thin - maybe just 20cm in places. Jean-Baptiste considers the style as good blend of different styles of other Saint-Aubin combing richness minerality and tension and is possibly the best climat to age as it has the potential in a good year to 8 years or more.
Jean-Baptiste has decided to discontinue with buttage. He feels the process of piling up the soil goes a little too deep and disturbs the life of the soil and as well as compacting it and he now prefers to leave the weeds. He will delay the ploughing as long as possible - into April as it is also much easier to work a vineyard like this than ploughed ground
