People don't credit Frank enough but he IS undoubtedly amongst some of the all time greatest submission specialist in MMA.
@Kota Lz... Werdum
@Kota Lz him antonio nogueira and werdum. josh barnett and ben rothwell pretty good
@@normalnick9693 Don’t forget Fedor 👍🏼
@@stantoncochran536 oh yeah! he had so many ko's in his later fights i forgot how good he was with subs. all time best overall
He tapped big nog I wanted him and Werdum to fight the neve did imo mir , Werdum and big nog the best three heavyweight submission fighters ever .I would of loved to see mir vs Werdum even a grappling match they are both great
Frank Mir has a very good mechanical brain. These high level submissions take tons of intelligence and understanding of leverage and fulcrums. He invented this one lol
Facts. I submitted a mf in my class with this. I felt like the man
Well he said he just took it from an old Japanese jujitsu style but just did it on the ground. So not quite inventing but a new application
@@holdenmuganda97 I take the Ryan Hall approach that you can't "invent" a movement of the human body. But you can discover it or perfect that movement/Application.
What Frank did is take a application from an often dismissed and ridiculed MA , that was often applied from an ineffective position standing and was a low percentage move and discovered a new way to apply it that made it 100x more effective.
It's a great submission that works well Gi and No-Gi. I have had it used on me and I've used it a lot too.
with all the heavy shots he has taken to the head over the years i am surprised he is not rolling around in a wheel chair mumbling and drooling on himself, he is one tough dude
One of my favourite instructors! Great fighter but even better teacher. Thanks for the Frank Mir videos!
I Love the way Frank Mir, explain the art and science of Submissions. To me he is the best Submission artist out there.
I call this the mir lock as that is the name that was taught to me some 12 years ago. I have since tapped many many guys from 280 kilo meat heads to the guy who originally showed me the lock over the years (multiple times to his shame). I also did it *standing* to a member of the French Judo team while judo sparring! Sadly, the rest of that sparring was me being throw HARD again and again : (
It is actually quite versatile because as frank states if you go for a omoplata and they resist, it opens up but also, if you go for a violin lock it opens up or if they resist the 'mir lock' a violin opens up.
Thanks foe r giving many submissions on strong guys Frank.
great teacher best heavyweight submission fighter ever
I spend my time learning these moves step by step but guys like Frank literally make them up in real time because they understand at such a high level
I hit this all the time 100% based off seeing Frank hit it in the fight. Always catches them off guard.
One of my favorite submissions! Became a go to since the Williams fight.
I remember hitting this submission rolling in class and everyone said the Frank Mir submission and that’s exactly where I got it from.
that guy was a trooper for enduring that technique
great move, learned this in Jujitsu and it works . Funny thing is, when Frank Mir does this in guard its amazing. Jon Jones literally does the standing version on Teixeira it's considered dirty. Never understood how fans could celebrate one fighter on a technique then criticize another using the same move in a standing position. Fans really need to get to a gym and learn submissions.
Thanks! Frank Mir did a wonderful job explaining his move eloquently and scientifically! Thank you so much the detailed breakdown!
The legendary "Mir Lock"
I love how he gives homage to Wally Jay for the idea. I think Wally Jay would be proud. Thank you Frank!
what a legend , what a humble guy , what a warrior ... actually your losses are much better than brocks whole career !
I have seen him a few times in Vegas lol.
Thank you so much for this.
Frank Mir is incredibly eloquent. Wow. Not that I'm surprised, it's just unexpected.
03:55 The guy almost tapped out :'D
Very awesome. Would love to attend one of Frank's seminars.
Thanks for the great video gentlemen!
👊😎
Had my professor show me how to get this done. Its nastyyyyy
I remember this was the first ever submission I got when rolling after watching Frank in UFC
Frank Mir The G.O.A.T
Thank you for this imma try it =)
Un des meilleurs. Dans, comme en dehors du ring !
Frank , until today that was one of the most gruesome keys ever !
Don't mess with frank Mir his one of the best bjj fighter in mma in the history and I respect him so much...
Great instructional! However, this lock actually hits the elbow as well. I was submitted by this once and although I tapped quickly, I had elbow pain on the ulnar side for weeks.
Pretty nasty😢😢😢
Purple belt put me in this yesterday in class lol
I wonder what could have become of Mir had he never wrecked his bike.
He would have choked out Brock Lesnar
Same. The bike accident changed everything. But coming back from that was a big enough achievement.
Every time i remember the first fight againt Brock Lesnar, I think that Mir is one of the best fighter of all time.
Still haven't seen a sub like it
Will this work from half guard?
Jaime Jara yes. The z half guard
"Knowledge of machinery and technology won't help me fight!"
This video:
I remember when he defeated that giant bully in the early UFC, Tank A.
Is "Abbott" the name you're looking for?
With a toe hold.
just started looking into this lol
Anyone else notice franks accent for the first seven seconds
looks like if it doesnt work theres a clean armbar from there
I think Paul Craig watched this a few month back. 🤣
Yeah on roids
