Thank you for being so precise in describing the details, especially on chasing them with your hips and locking at the tricep vs the armpit. That was a light bulb moment for me as a lowly white belt that tries to snatch up Darce chokes that folks always survive.

I notice that wether you do a darce or anaconda you choose the option where the “knot” of your figure-four’d arms is on the top side - towards the ceiling. But in a regular darce from half guard, the knot is on the bottom- mat side.
For example, at 4:50, why switch the choking arm? I feel like there’s a principle that governs this but I can’t think of it.
Are talking about when I slip my head through and go to the marce?
I think the top side finish is the most powerful once you get the hang of it. But I feel like I find the marce finish more often.
What I want you to strive for is to have no preference for either. Allow your opponent to hang himself and just follow him wherever he leads you; just keep the trap closed with those 4 rules. Let all your movements and counters be movements that deepen the trap. Wait until the time is right and lock it up.
@@brandonmcninja Thank you for your reply! Yes, the 4 rules makes sense, and letting the opponent choose how to hang themself makes sense too, but I'm trying to understand the principles of the marce and anaconda rather than memorizing specific entries to them. It seems like the marce can be applied with choking arm above them or below them depending on your bodies orientations to each other whereas I usually only see the anaconda with their choking arm (their arm in your loop) on the topside. I think an anaconda with the choking arm on the bottom isn't ideal because they'd be laying right on my hand/elbow, so it's better to just switch to a marce like you did in the video. Am I understanding that right?

Seems to be all about finding the pocket with the anaconda. Whether you hip up to them or pull them to you, or invert roll to top position... just find the pocket. Would you agree? I so love the detail about keeping the arm up and crossing the tricep. I had to laugh when you said "people think their arms are too short" haha thats so me. Now, there is going to be an anaconda wave of death at my gym courtesy of yours truly, because of your knowledge. OSS!!!

How did darce become marce? Kept sayin marce marce marce.
The Marce is the variation where you finish from your side or back, as demonstrated in the video.
The name comes from “Marc Laimon’s Darce,” as he’s the one who popularized this variation of it many years ago.
