Introduced in 1999, the Audi allroad was a cult favorite. So in 2005... uh, it was axed. Now it is back, but not without significant changes. Tom Voelk checks out a Premium Plus model and drives to Long Beach, WA to see kites, and the world?s largest geoduck.

BMW does the same thing, they have "keyless ignition" although you have to insert the fob in a slot below the button to start, but there is an option called "Comfort Access" that includes keyless access with a full push-button start system that only requires the key fob to be in the car.

2 new Allroads came to the dealership near me two months ago, those same Allroads are still sitting there today. My Audi sale man told me there is no demand for them at all. There are 3 A6 Allroads in my neighborhood and the owners still love them. Trust me, this was a major mistake on Audi's part.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice this old connector for the iPhone. You'll need an adapter!

There aren't many "rugged" wagons you can buy today. There's the outback(or forester if you consider it), allroad, and XC70.

I don't consider it keyless, just a different kind of key.

2:12 fuel door open. Probably the start of electrical problems like most Audis LOL. I know that these cars' fuel door is released electronically by pushing a button.

Might sound a little dumb, but was that car keyless or do they consider the fob a key when it must be inserted?

Is it just me, or does Tom remind you of Cooley? Sure a more toned down version, but Tom Volk has some Brian Cooley in him, don’t you think?

I love the Allroad, but the A6 one was better. I looked at this the first week they came to the dealer and was disappointed for $50,000 you only got a 4 cylinder and that you could not get rear heated seats. For some reason both Audi and Lexus are doing the same stupid deal killers. Can't get rear heated seats on this and can't get rear heated seats on the Lexus ES.

I noticed the same thing with the MMI dial too. Not intuitive. Should scroll the other way.

Just like Tom says, think of this as a luxury and German offering of the Subaru Outback.

Seems like everyone is in a rush to have Apple's Lightning connector integrated sooner than later. Do all Audi's still have the 30 pin connector?
    Awesome review :)

I don't get this. Why would someone buy one of these? If the buyer was looking for a rugged offroader, they would look at the wrangler, G-class, land cruiser etc. if they were looking for a wagon they would look at the venza, outback, Audi avant vehicles etc. if their looking for a Audi im pretty sure they won't take it offroad. So I think this is a mistake for Audi. There's already the avant versions of the A4 and A6, if people were looking for a rugged car Audi isn't the first place they woul

$40.000?! Amazing how cheap cars are in the states, even imports. Around here it goes for at least $105.000, and that's before adding extra equipment.

I've looked at the reviews, and you had your family there for your family vacation. 2 years ago, you had the Equinox; last year -- Chrysler T&C. What we have -- or will it be a surprise. And by the way -- leave "Evil Twin" out.
