Have owned the Outback and was terribly disappointed i.e.:Horrible driving dynamics, butt numbing uncomfortable seat f/r, terrible nav and poor quality sound system, useless roof rack. Fit and finish on par with other appliance like Asian cars. If you care about fit and finish, ergonomics, and cornering ability this or 3 series is the only way to go.
These things can't sell for crap. Cost too much, no heated rear seats, 4 cylinder and the backseat not fit for adult sized humans. Dealership near me can't sell a single one.
I don't care if you make a Gazillion dollars a year...I'd buy the Subaru Outback. Yes I know its not as luxie...but it will last longer and cost less to maintain. Subies are for the confident people...whom don't need approval from others.
Maintenance fees and longevity really just depends on how well the owner can take care of their car, an Audi will cost just as much to maintain as a Subi for any diy'er and last just as long.
I am thinking about buying Subaru Outback or Audi. If I will not get Outback 3,5R i will get Audi... Bought cars are good. Subaru drive forever and is cheap. My financial situation will force me to buy Subaru. But Audi are the shit period. The materials, motor etc are way way better. Thats why you pay what you get for. Subaru motor 2.5 sounds funky and is slow compare to Audi 2.0 T. where sounds Sexy and its fast. I use to own Subaru and Audi, I love bought them and I think is silly compare Subaru to Audi.

Proving only that the college they have a bumper sticker, license plate frame, and window sticker avertising will unlearn you how to drive. The aggressively passive. Almost 10 years later and being able to find these for 15k now has me looking real hard at this car.
