OMG. My dryer door latch has been broke for 2 years and I have been making due. I viewed your video, ordered the part and replaced door switch in 30 minutes. Note: I am a 65 yr old woman with no mechanical aptitude. Excellent instructions!
Thank you. Because of this video, with no experience I opened the dryer and replaced the switch. Total money cost $23. Amazon has it for under $7 but it was urgently needed. I drove to the store.
Thanks for this video (12 years after the fact) as all I could find were the ones with the lint screen on top and my dryer is this kind with the lint trap in the door area. I needed this to see how to undo the top of the dryer without forcing it or breaking anything. Now I can buy a switch and get my dryer back to working. Thanks again!
I have the correct part and your detailed instructions are some of the best I've seen. Little tips you gave were perfect. I couldn't switch the switch however because I don't think the plastic ends come off of my dryer. (:44). My dryer has a slightly different look but all the knobs seem similar. I thank you because without that problem with the end pieces I know I could have done it with your help.
Thank you! My husband was searching for instructions for this, but all of the videos featured a dryer vent in to top. I found your video and we had the dryer door switch fixed in no time. Very Helpful!
Thank you for your video. I have two questions: 1) My light hasn’t worked for years. Just put in a new bulb and it still does not work. If the switch lever is not loose, can the switch still be broken? 2) also, when not in use, if the door is shut all the way it will sometimes turn on by itself, so I have to keep the door ajar when it’s not in use. Could that also be a switch problem?
Guys my Kenmore Elite Model 11064962300 was not like this at all(lint screen in the door not on top). There were two screws (9/32) on the back panel that had to be removed, then the dryer lid was able to be moved and the switch installed. Ive looked at 5 Kenmore Elite videos and none had this variation. In the event it helps someone in the future. The switch was still PN 3406107, from Amazon, for $6.99. Better than $125 for the repairman to come out.
None of the videos I've encountered showed how to take the top off my particular model (Whirlpool GGQ8811LW0). There are two screws at the rear of the plastic end panels that have to be removed to be able to swing the control panel up and back (the end panels do not come off the control panel), exposing the three hex-head sheet metal screws that must be removed to allow the top to be slid forward for removal. After that, the procedure is the same as with other models to replace the door switch or rollers or drive belt. One other thing: that plastic foil vent hose does not meet modern building codes nowadays. Solid metal piping or metal flex tube is what you should use.
Our Dryer is about 35 yrs old and I have no idea where to purchase a switch. No place on the Island of Guam unfortunately. It's the only thing that quit working on this old machine. Pretty amazing set. Washer is still working perfectly.
This video is great and I can't wait to try to fix my dryer. PROBLEM - the very first step (removing the side parts to get the panel to go back) I can't find any "clips" Can you help me? Could my model be different? Everything looks the same.
My switch is not broke but the dryer will only run as long as I keep the push button down. Once I let go the dryer stops running. Any idea what the problem can be? TIA.
The door switch that you changed on your video is broken on mine. Would this cause the dryer to not start? The start button when pushed beeps, but dryer will not come on. It was rotating when door was open ,and I just dealt with it. But now it wont start. Panel lights up, just wont start.
There is a difference that this video addresses. My lint filter is in the door, not on top of the dryer. That does change how to lift the top of this dryer.
Thanks. Just changed my dryer door switch after watching your video. Your step by step guide was great. I also left the wiring diagram where it was.

Thanks. A good vid and very helpful. Took me about 30 minutes, including cleaning and vacuuming around the dryer.

Did you try Amazon?
Update: Drying still alive; but, the washer died of old age finally.

Too bad they can't make a better damn switch. They are so fragile and break constantly.
Video a bit narrow, but got the job done.
Where's your lint trap
