I have been sharing this clip nonstop. Agnes broke a world record and a beast broke her potential. We have to join hands to stop Gender Based violence, in Kenya, Nigeria and everywhere else.
The whole content of Africa, lt's really sad.
@@alicenjeri337what does content have to do with the Conitintent of Africa/ has 54 country each country is different.
@Hach-cn4bo I am a woman of colour and living in the Caribbean and I second that.
@@GwendolynWilliams-e1mThe evidence is there. Most do not have progressive societies advocating for the education and self-sufficiency of women. There's a lot of male entitlement in various cultures and traditions spread across the continent that enable gender-based violence to be prominent.

It is sickening that her murderer was granted bail and even had the audacity to plead not guilty. There is a lack of remorse on his part. What a vile and cruel human being. Agnes deserved so much better and it's so heartbreaking that her story had to come to an end in such a tragic and senseless manner.
Right!? He could have bribed the judge. And to think he's using her money for this and to fatten himself?! Unbelievable! I just hope she gets justice.
Oh no that’s very sad 😔 she deserves better, am just heartbroken 💔
Coming to America as a refugee soon
Great comment Joy, I totally agree ❤️
And the fact that he's using her winning earnings to pay for his lawyers is an absolute slap in the face to her parents.
Why does this monster still access to agnes’ money. The court should seize the assets and hand them over to her parents, not let the monster who took her life continue to misuse the deceased. SHAME ON THE COURT.
💔
I agree. This was shocking to hear!
He must have forced her to have a joint account. Agnes' lawyers should ask the Bank to freeze it through the courts...
Indeed
The misogyny in African culture is real
the pain in Agnes’ father’s face is heartbreaking. i am so sorry they had to experience this and lose their child
mjb6839 that’s every parents nightmare , 😭
😔🙏
They failed to take care of their child. If I had a daughter, I and her brothers would speak to her every day and she would not come close to any evil man.
@@masterlightjames950 - This sounds perfect on paper. Every umbrella parent thinks they can control every aspect of their child's life and you just CAN'T. She was 25 years old and traveling the world. There's no way you can be ubiquitous in your grown children's life. This is such a dreamy idea of parenting.
@@lhaire who's talking about control? Project much?
A tragic story. Your journalism has honoured the victim and showed the murderer for what he really is.
At least a documentary that doesn't focus on poverty like all the others. This is the way to go. Focus on real stories that have an impact
News Flash: Poverty does have an Impact for those who are or have suffered from it. I know this as a person who has suffered from it before. You can't pick and choose which parts of an Individual story/testimony are relevant. Proverty is what drives most people to succeed and break Generational curses.
@@srichey444I think you’re missing the point of the original comment. Certainly someone’s socioeconomic background is part of their identity, but too oftentimes it’s the main thing focused on in news coverage/ biographies of POC, which then creates a stereotypical myopic image of those people that overshadows the other parts of them that are just as relevant. It’s about perception.
@@Amanda-ee8oh I said what I said & I didn't miss any "point" when I said it. So move around....

Fabulous tribute to Agnes and to the work of Tirop's Angels. I felt so sad for her family who seemed like wonderful, kind people. I hope that the work that Tirop's Angels are doing will help to stop this abuse in the future.
One can only hope but I have my doubts. As long as men are allowed to abuse women nothing will change.
Unfortunately they don't care about us.They keep failing us
And now Rebecca Cheptegei… I don’t know how to express the pain and grief losing another wonderful soul. This should be stoped.
Sadly, violence against women is especially rampant in east Africa 😔
Actually it's more prevalent in Kenya.
In Uganda women have some level of protection from domestic violence by men.
Kenyan men are still backward, our Ugandan Olympian sister was murdered in Kenya.
I have seen stories where men treat women so bad, even widows are chased from their late husband's houses, such things are only still happening in Kenya without any authorities intervening.
The Kenyan Govt needs to step in and change these trends otherwise it's a bad stain on Kenya as a country.
@@kimemmahlee8328 say among this community very violent like the president and also some religions of fake peace
The authorities really do need to address this issue, otherwise the country will be viewed as an archaic, outdated backwater.
and still no justice for Agness till today
I can feel the pain in Agnes' brother's eyes fr. Such a tragedy😢
It's his job to protect his sister. This whole situation is based on culture and abuse of women. Men are often seen as more valuable than women. The fact that he still has all of her money is disgusting. I hope all women being abused can speak out and seek help.
The way her friends/competitors told that story of her beating them made me feel soooo proud as if I personally knew her
I find it very hard to believe that Agnes told her agent to stay out of her business. He just doesn't want any culpability.
Exactly these agents only have 2 interest and that’s themselves and money in opposite order
I just read an article where he stated that he doesn't run a charity, that he is not the Red Cross, his business is making money. He also said that if he had interfered with their relationship, he was gonna lose her as a client and somebody else would have made the money.
What was he supposed to have done?? Provide her 24/7 armed security guards on the 0.005% chance she would be murdered? It's insane to blame anybody but the murderer.
@@Anamer22 So appalling!
Well, to tell you the truth, and putting feelings of sadness aside, there’s more responsibility for her family than for her agent.
Thank you for telling her story.... as a track fun from Uganda... Agnes' death was bitter.

What a tragedy
This is fantastic journalism 👏🏽 Thank you for honouring Agnes and her legacy and bringing attention to gender based violence. Asante sana from Kenya 🇰🇪
The runner who spoke at the funeral has such a genuine personality that makes her so familiar and extremely comfortable to listen to. It's heart breaking what happened to Agnes. Her brother is completely shattered. Absolutely sad 💔
Ladies.. once you leave.. do not return!
This is a touching documentary about Agnes Tirop and focuses on the bigger problem currently facing thousands of women in Kenya. Gender based violence must stop!
Tirop's Angels and other bodies that enable women to speak up should be funded and allow women to speak up and leave these sort of relationships.
Kenya is becoming a hotbed of men that manipulate and use women for their money or with the promise of assisting the women with a job or income.
Women have rights and the justice system should enforce these rights. Its unfortunate her murderer was granted bail. I hope the family and loved ones get the justice that is deserved.
Rest in peace Agnes Tirop. You'll never be forgotten 💐💐💐

My thoughts exactly. There should have been no bail and he should have been barred from access to the money. This is a terrible failure on the part of the Kenyan courts and other authorities.
That's Africa a whole other country that does not recognize abuse and even child molestation like the US🤷🏾♀️

He never loved her. He loved her money exploiting her talent unfortunately.
So important to inform women and educate your daughters about these type of men and to leave with any signs of red flags even if you love him, a broken heart can be healed, there are better men out there. But way too many men are evil, lazy and there to use you, economically or sexually, a man like that doesn't love you, he doesn't even know what love is, they literally walk over corpses if it in some way benefits them.
We honestly need to leave this "men are protectors" garbage in the past. It wasn't true before, and it isn't true now. Men are the biggest threat. I have and do feel WAY more protected and safe with women than I've ever felt with a man.

Black women interested in being managers and trainers - WE NEED YOU!
I am a trainer...how can I get you?
The first thing I learned ..Never,ever go back.😓
As a Nigerian and full blooded African, my heart is completely broken at this documentary.
It hurts me even more when I heard the dad saying " the family wants the case in court closed, since it has taken up to 2 years and they have run out of resources."
Seriously?
So Kenyan government, Adidas, and of course, Agnes Angels left the family to fund the case or what?
With all the athletes involved in Agnes Angels, I would have expected they make individual donations, and or also open a fund me accounts to raise funds for the prosecution of Ibrahim, the suspect.
The parents lamenting the suspect uses the victim's money to sponsor a possible manipulation of the court proceedings bleeds my innermost soul.😭😭😭
What's ADIDAS doing about it?
If Adidas did not notice her ordeal while still alive and of course, couldn't help her, what are they doing now that it is obvious she has been ultimately victimized?
Can't adidas invest enough conspicuous interest to ensure the full justice is served to the monstrous Ibrahim?
Certainly, the innocent poor Agness Jejet Tirop may not get the justice she deserves.😭😭😭😭
What a horrible world! 😭😭😭😭

Great job Tirop's Angels!!!! I found out about my rights through posters on walls and videos from people like you that I didnt deserve the abuse I was getting. If it wasnt for people like you educating others on their human rights a lot more would suffer.

@@issafulaI agree. They must have a lot of influence in developing countries.
Any woman who has been the victim of this brand of human rights violation knows how disappointing, frustrating and costly it is to heal and how rare it is to obtain anything close to “justice”. The world (because this happens in every type of area you can imagine) would rather make this a what-about-[insert other group] debate than actually seek and facilitate equity. I pray that women of color find peace and strength…period.
Why is everyone blaming her manager and it's clearly her boyfriend who finished her and her country that never gave her justice ?
And this type of crime has happened and continues to happen, just sad.
One Kenyan that I have never stopped mourning for. This angel was taken away from the world for no reason. Her story will live forever.
How is he out on bail when he confessed???? absolutely unacceptable!!!! Her Brother knows what needs to be done!
And he is spending her money
May her soul rest in peace. Hope everyone especially Government and the international companies put in place strong measures to avert future tragedies.
Women need to find the courage to leave an abusive relationship and not go back.
Until y'all African parents stop brain washing your daughters into believing marriage is an accomplishment and pressuring them to marry, more of your them would end up like Agnes
Such a talented and beautiful soul, loss for what??
RIP.
The age difference between the late Tirop and her husband tells it all the man must have had another family somewhere and he was only digging for gold in the name of love. When Tirop started noticing his mission she had to die because she couldn't be left to continue winning the races, and the dollars and her benefactor to go empty handed. This is very sad.
I’m sorry I do not believe the agent. Running was Agnes’s bread and butter. She would have listened to her manager and would not jeopardise her income. RIP Agnes Tirop
I am so sorry that this incredible talented woman died. However, like many victims of domestic violence (the UK included), these relationships are complicated emotionally. Don't forget that a friend of Agnes' husband "persuaded" her to leave the camp to return to her matrimonial home. Who could have stopped her from returning?? Should she have been forcibly detained by her Manager? The police and social services in the UK could not prevent a lot of such abuse and this is in the so called Western enlightened Country! The steps that the Kenyan female athletes are taking to empower women in their community, are the only real productive outcome in this documentary.

Too sad. Just as Agnes was making major waves on the track. She was one of my favourite athletes. Its shocking how many times she reported the violence with no measures taken to help her. Surely justice must prevail.
For the fellow Kenyans that are in this forum, this only not borders along gender based violence, but hinges greatly on certain cultures and norms in certain societies within Kenya in regards to how the woman is treated or valued. The status quo sadly continues.
This happens in cultures worldwide. Patriarchy is everywhere and it enables violence against women.

Uuuhhmm no, it’s only 15% Muslim. Please speak on what you know for sure.
I agree, having lived out of Kenya some things I hear my family and friends go through shock me.
I also think they need to look into the athletes pay… if they are getting brand deals from big companies they need to be paid their due.. The managers are stealing from these women.
Very upsetting and devastated of the passing of Agnes. 🙏🏾
Agnes died a very painful death but my country kenya need to highly observed the cases of domestic violence it's scary
Tragic story. RIP Agnes. Your death will not be in vain.
The manager said there was no indication she was in danger.. really? Everybody knew he attacked her and she needed to go to Italy to recovery. But as usual, it’s not easy to talk after, it is easy for them to wash their hands after a woman is dead and go figure if it is true Agnes told him what he said. He probably wants to wash his guilt. 🤬
It is very easy to blame other people for not intervening after the fact. But what most people forget is that you cannot force an adult to accept help. I have witnessed numerous cases here in Kenya where neighbors who try to intervene in a domestic violence incident to protect the woman end up being vilified by the woman herself once she makes up with her husband. In some instances, they will even insult you and call you 'an enemy' of their union. So what are you supposed to do beyond that?
Have to continue to advocate education (i.e. personal rights, signs of unhealthy relationships, financial independence) and continued challenging to change cultural beliefs. Unfortunately these changes won't be obvious overnight. But you keep relenting.
It's definitely unfortunate that the most dangerous time for a DV victim is when they leave. Often victim struggle with their attachment to their abusers.
Thank you for this documentary. Very sad for Agnes’ family and friends. Continue to sleep in peace Agnes. I pray for justice for the family.
