    I am soooo glad I found this channel! I agree with the fresh food part especially. Ever since he became an adult, my dog eats fresh food every day and he is 9 now and with 0 health problems. He is as active as a 1-year-old dog. I avoid giving him food with preservatives, but it cannot be avoided. He needs his treats 😅 But I'll sub and binge watch your vid. Listening to you, there is much I can learn and improve on.

    Cam, since I found your website and videos I have been recommending it around. You halped me enormously when our new puppy refused to eat the kibble it came with. Royal Canin was binned right away and I have been cooking like a mule almost on daily basis since. Our puppy hasn't refused his meal once since and I can see us introducing the raw diet soon. Shihtzu dogs are fussy eaters generally but in our case it was a question of survival 🥴...you practically saved our puppy! I will continue spreading the word and you continue researching and reviewing. PS: we also tried Acana from Orijen, no chance. Some dogs are more intelligent than we are.

    I agree with your assessment of this particular Orijen food. I won't feed this formula because of the lentils, legumes, peas etc. However there's another formula that came on the market recently maybe a year ago called Orijen Original "Amazing Grains" formula. The bag is nearly identical but the ingredients panel is not! I'm feeding 3 big dogs so I incorporate some kibble into their diet along with raw. I also still worry about balance. I'd consider the Orijen Amazing Grains superior among dry dog foods, definitely in top 3, and I've studied many labels!

    Hey Cam! Love your videos. I tell every kibble feeding dog owner to watch them.
    I have a 10 month old Pitbull that I feed raw but it’s getting difficult as I just recently obtained allergy test results that listed a whole lot of allergies to foods and supplements that are essential. My priority is making sure he gets a great balanced diet. Can you assist me with this in creating a balanced meal plan given his limitations? Do you offer this service?

      Hey Jhon, yes I can assist you. If you head to my website we can get you booked in for a time to chat and find a diet that’s right for your dog. Allergy tests are never accurate, we need to physically test low scoring results, this normally brings back more ingredients the dog can digest, further improving the range of foods they can eat and that will work to keep them healthy.

    Note the protein is CRUDE protein which is not a measurement of amino acids ready for muscle regeneration. it is crude measurement which is only a measure of nitrogenous groups, which appear in HIGH levels in plants. So when the non-meat eaters says their diet has XX % protein it is not so, it is XX % nitrogenous groups, so without a doubt protein deficiency sets in. How much meat protein should a dog get every day, , ,(I ingest 1g of protein/pound of lean body mass). Thanks for a great video. I also noticed it has not salt, I don't think that's good.

    i'm doing 60% raw chicken with bones/whole eggs/white rice and 40% of Orijen Regional Red/Tundra and sure I'd do 100% raw if things weren't so expensive lol i honestly think as long as you exercise your dog, mix in 40-60 percent of raw diet (and yes I mean bones, dogs can perfectly digest raw chicken/beef bones) and high end food like Orijen/Acana/Carna4! anything more and the dog is eating better than I am so I do think you need some fresh raw diet in there but as long as you exercise the dog and mix it up a bit dog should be ok for +15 yrs

    One main concern about legumes, which canids have not evolved to eat, is how they skew the GI microflora. When you put non-species specific fibrous beans into your dog's diet, especially at the high amount found in Orijen and many other modern kibbles, you ruin the balance and that makes a big difference in long term health. Raw fed dogs have a species appropriate microflora and that plays a huge role in immune system function, nutrient absorption and GI health. This is all known science and not conjecture.

    Making a fully complete raw food diet is very difficult, even more so for a puppy when nutrition is so so important in their early development. The huge problem we have in this industry is that it is LITTERED with conflicting information and arguments, honestly the amount of times I've chuckled away to myself after reading / watching two completely different sets of information and guidance that contradict eachother. The cherry on the top is when they state they are certified nutritionist or vertinarian. But there is a logical view on this, as stated in this video and many others, is that in the wild, these dogs would consume raw meat, thats a fact. Interestingly enough, vets seem to heavily push kibble as the go to for pet nutrition, which ive never understood why. The main concern for me and my pup is to ensure hes getting ALL of the correct nutrition during his early development. I simply can not play around with that. That is where a complete kibble with some fresh toppers shines. As much as id love to feed him raw, there are far too many nutritional needs to think about and im not confident i can fullfill that but sourcing my own meat. Companies who make a complete raw food charge an insane price (looking at £200-£250) per month to meet my dogs requirements. Thats just robbing in my eyes. I imagine many or in this same position. So, until raw feeding becomes readily available at an affordable price, or easy to source meats that cover all nutritional needs, then kibble and fresh toppers are the way to go.

    • @MuffletLove
      @MuffletLove Місяць тому

      It is initially but then it’s extruded at incredibly high temperatures and pressures just like any other extruded kibble so he’s spot on that it’s over cooked.

    I feed raw and have learnt about canine nutrition from dr nick Thompson and dr Conor brady. It’s important if you own a dog the importance of feeding a species appropriate diet and feeding for their needs not for the owners convenience or preference. Feed to thrive not to just survive. Less money and time at the vets if you feed properly 🫶🏼🐶
