떡볶이 THANK U VERY MUCH!!!! I truly hope that Korea and Singapore will gey to know each other better and i hope to do my little part to help that happen!
Indeed, almost everything about Korea is different from TV. Please join my FB community at facebook.com/limpeh.in.seoul/ for more exclusive videos about the REAL Korea.
Actually in Kdrama, it has already shown that Korean society is base on age and not merits. If you believe in meritocracy system, Korea is that definitely not that place for you.
i love you videos, I'm still trying to learn the language and your videos have been really helpful in helping me decide whether to further on my studies/career there :)
WOW! I am so happy and honored to know that my videos has been helpful to you in such important decisions! Appreciation like this gives me drive to make more videos to help more Singaporeans understand more about Korean language, People and Culture! Join my FB community at facebook.com/limpeh.in.seoul/ to contribute your ideas and suggestions!
got connections must jio eh HAHAHA I'm kidding! life korea seems nice, hope i can visit soon next year to get a feel haha! cant wait for more videos 👍🏼👍🏼
YES, POINT #2 you mentioned is that you are right. oh, and I did not know that Singaporeans are doing military handshake!! good info for me as I always do handshake gently with Singaporean people when we get to hand shake.
Well-summarised video about the differences between Singaporeans and South Koreans. However, the point 3 you've mentioned, "All 3 meals are the same", no longer applies to South Korea's younger generations (early 40's or lower). I myself cannot eat all the similar Korean meals for 3 times in a day. I rarely eat Korean dish in the morning, just stick to bread and milk, haha.
Yes, many younger Koreans have breakfast on the go due to work or school but when I asked them what they eat for breakfast at home with their family, they all told me its the same as lunch and dinner too.
the first point-out (that Koreans use just one hand for chopsticks or forks or spoons) you made was QUITE interesting, because I never thought about that as I always eat one hand too, right hand as I am right handed person. It was quite surprising to see that you found this surprising. DID NOT EVEN expect that! I am Korean girl btw
1. Eat with both hands more efficient 2. No need to bone crash ppl's hand 3. Prefer more variety of food 4. Keeping environment clean is basic self discipline 5. Keeping a distance is preferable 6. Be gentleman 7. Prefer to express 8. Spore drink drive more serious 9. Age no prob, respect the elder 10. Garmen system?
Still very applicable to Koreans overseas. I live in NZ - your reference to Koreans not being directly confrontational is very true; and yes, they’ll just avoid you if they got offended by you; they won’t bother to talk it out.
Hahaha, you Singaporeans have so much in common with us germans. Especially the handshake. When you give someone a weak handshake, you will be considered weak in germany :D But holy moly, german culture and korean culture would clash really hard. It is so different. I would consider the germans touchy people .Even when it seems not so at first, but after the first drink you can be best buddies :D And in germany it does not matter so much if you are older or younger. It is about your efficiency at work. You can be a boss even with 30 if you are good enough. In germany work is your god.
Norodim welcome to my channel and thank you for your interest in Singapore and Korean culture! Indees, Singapore learned alot from Germany over the past many decades and adopted alot of the German way of working. Korean culture on the other hand is so completely different from German culture that i would go as far as to say that things German consider positive can be considered negative to a Korean and vice versa. Have you ever been to Korea?
Well, i have been to Japan, Vietnam, Thailand and Honkong. But not to Korea. When i have the money in 2 or 3 years i would realy like to fly over to south korea. Yeah i heared that too about Singapore. My brother studied international management in asia, because he thinks asia is the future when it comes to work. In Thailand and Vietnam it was easier to find people talking with me in english than in japan. I do not know how fluent people in south korea are in the english language. In germany we are thought to make sure english is our second "mother thoung". Beause of the relationship with the USA: By the way i like your videos. Especially your direct way of telling things about the cultures.
OMG..Limpeh you should have shared this topic earlier. I have been into buddy zone when I first met my Koreans superior. Zi Bai Xi Liao!!! Anyway, your video sharing is really interesting and entertaining.
have you lived in Korea or did you get that impression from watching Kdrama? Because in real life Korea, Korean men are extremely unkept and can't be bothered with fashion. Singaporean men are leaps and bounds ahead of Korean men in terms of image consciousness imo.
yes but that is not the general Korean way yet. That's usually very westernised Koreans who make up what I think it just 0.001% of the population and those kinds of Koreans don't even do that with other Koreans. I am talking about very typical Koreans here. :)
Those overseas international school Koreans usually come back to Korea later in life to a huge culture shock and they typically find it hard to reintegrate into this society... no better than a typical foreigner.
Guess its not that common to use both hands since in my school food court, I see 99% of the students use only 1 hand just like what you saw in the video.
Yes, forks are common, but I believe in relative terms Koreans don't use two hands as much as other Asian cultures - even Japan uses the other hand to hold the bowl when eating. Btw, great list. Seems like you got a great idea of the Korean culture.
You're not wrong to observe this 1 hand phenomenon - this has a Confucian root. It's taught very early in a Korean person's life that it's "bad manners" to do two things: 1) use left hand --> not sure why, but using left hand is seen as bad according to confucian beliefs 2) similar to number 1, using two hands and using a fork and knife is seen as "barbaric" and thus Koreans have only historically used chopsticks to do everything. In a way Koreans have retained more of the ancient Chinese customs better than the Chinese (and i think many Koreans acknowledge and appreciate the profound Chinese cultural influence on their culture).
i will do very well in korea. i behave like that in sg even though i am born in sg. Perhaps this is due to the confucius thinking i was brought up with.
I guess when one is drunk, one loses his mental faculty. Also, people our generation witnessed one particular ethnic grp drinking homemade alcohol and lying around at bus stops drunk. My mom told me they also beat up their wives when drunk.
Wow, Singaporeans and Westerners seem alike in some ways. I need to research the history of Singapore to find out exactly why. I know Singapore is very advanced tech wise and a good place for business and that's it lol.
to me, singaporeans are nicest asians i've ever seen. this is based on my 10 year youtube history. i hope korea can be friends with singapore.
떡볶이 THANK U VERY MUCH!!!! I truly hope that Korea and Singapore will gey to know each other better and i hope to do my little part to help that happen!
Thanks for sharing your perspective of living and working in Korea. It is really different from what is shown on their TVs.

YES, POINT #2 you mentioned is that you are right. oh, and I did not know that Singaporeans are doing military handshake!! good info for me as I always do handshake gently with Singaporean people when we get to hand shake.
Sir, you have made excellent observations!
Thank you so much for your endorsement! Coming from a Korean means alot to me. :)

Singaporean In Korea Oh, that is interesting. My home does not, ha.

Woah this is 4 yrs ago.. Woah time flies
Yeah man, felt like i lived several different lives since then...
Very useful information! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!!

hahahaa yes, most foreigners find eating with just one hand very difficult hahaha
1. Eat with both hands more efficient
2. No need to bone crash ppl's hand
3. Prefer more variety of food
4. Keeping environment clean is basic self discipline
5. Keeping a distance is preferable
6. Be gentleman
7. Prefer to express
8. Spore drink drive more serious
9. Age no prob, respect the elder
10. Garmen system?
Hahaha thanks for the summary
The age respect aspect is something which I cannot get over.
And that is the CENTRAL part of Korean culture...
*Singapore has many cultures but Korea has one Korean culture!* 👏
Exactly!

Well i like the videos. They are interesting to watch. ^^
All those Singaporean habits apply to Malaysians too since we share some history.
OMG..Limpeh you should have shared this topic earlier. I have been into buddy zone when I first met my Koreans superior. Zi Bai Xi Liao!!! Anyway, your video sharing is really interesting and entertaining.
oh no!!! I hope everything turn out fine and he understands that it is Singaporean culture.
They are nice people to worked with indeed. Now I'm will be smarter by greeting them Mr first instead of direct Hihi followed by their name!! Lolx...
GraceC yes that will certainly make them like u more and give u more opportunities! 화이팅!
I want to hear the rest of all your points on these differences. 🤔☺️☺️
Korean guys are very image conscious, whereas in Singapore, guys just don't care about this.
have you lived in Korea or did you get that impression from watching Kdrama? Because in real life Korea, Korean men are extremely unkept and can't be bothered with fashion. Singaporean men are leaps and bounds ahead of Korean men in terms of image consciousness imo.
Handy becoz I want to do more travel to those two places
Glad you found it useful! :)
LMAO I thought he said 'Hougang River'
HAHHAHAHAAHHAHA GOOD ONE!
Hi me again. I think the younger generation is changing. I got young Koreans who come hugging as a greeting.
yes but that is not the general Korean way yet. That's usually very westernised Koreans who make up what I think it just 0.001% of the population and those kinds of Koreans don't even do that with other Koreans. I am talking about very typical Koreans here. :)
Also, take note that Koreans overseas and Koreans in Korea behave completely differently. In fact, at times, completely opposite.
I was surprised too.. thought they are supposed to be very conservative.. I guess it is due to the international school education
And yes, if you are talking about international school kids, I don't regard them as Koreans... I give them a class of their own.
Those overseas international school Koreans usually come back to Korea later in life to a huge culture shock and they typically find it hard to reintegrate into this society... no better than a typical foreigner.
Thanks for visiting korea
hahaha thank you except that, I am not "visiting korea" I am here to stay hahaha
I Happy to be Asian.. cuz.. like.. I love kpop idol lmao... As we are both aian

Come come, give it a go!
To Singaporeans, getting drunk is very sia suay: disgraceful
Yeah I never understood this, why is that? I never saw this kind of thinking in china, korea or japan.
I guess when one is drunk, one loses his mental faculty. Also, people our generation witnessed one particular ethnic grp drinking homemade alcohol and lying around at bus stops drunk. My mom told me they also beat up their wives when drunk.
