Song was sung in 1965. Vietnam war era. Listen to this with the perspective that there were thousands of men and women hoping to return to their loved ones from the war. Adds the emotion of the time period.👍
It was in Ghost. Thank you for not pausing it and butchering the song. Love these guys. I'm 71 and this was my Era. Thank you
For me, the most beautiful live performance ever!! Bobby Hatfield charming us all with his magical vocals, putting his heart and soul into every note. Incomparable. Mesmerized every time I see this. 🤍🌠
It’s well regarded as the best life performance and I agree it’s so good.
His range is unmatched , he hits 22 to 25 different notes , including that amazing counter-tenor at the end...vastly under-rated
Bobby and Bill sang a gig at a Marine base in So. California and a black Marine shouted, "You're righteous, brothers!" And that's how they got their name.
1965...Live Television, Live audience, Live orchestra on the Andy Williams program (one of the few programs being broadcast in color at the time).
This was the live performance on the Andy Williams Show, a great singer on his own. Bobby's Mom and Dad were in the audience and he had a head cold. He was nervous, but no one could tell. Bobby won the coin toss to record this as a solo with Bill producing it. They were good friends and their voices together were magical.
Of course you've heard it. Righteous Brothers are so iconic, timeless, their talent is out of this world...their music is still used in movies, commercials etc. Check out "You;ve Lost that Lovin' Feeling" to experience both of them together! Like nothing you've ever heard before.
The last high notes at the end is not on the cut record, Bobby told Bill he was going to go for it and Bill told him if he missed it it would ruin the whole performance, Bobby went for it anyway and at the end you see him bit his bottom lip with a little smile, he knew he nailed it.
You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling is one of their best songs.
Yes, and Soul and Inspiration is also one of their best songs. You just can't go wrong with them.
Hundreds of artists recorded this song but NOBODY sang it like Bobby Hatfield. RIP Bobby. This song will forever be his. This was used in the movie "Ghost". It was written in 1955 for a movie "Unchained".
you've lost that loving feeling " is the number one song played in the 20th century. highly recommend it along with their other stuff.
they are not a "soul group" but are often referred to as "blue eyed soul", because of their soulful lyrics and songs sung with soul in their voices. Bobby Hatfield has the high 3 octave voice. the other 1/2 of the duo is Bill Medley - low baritone range. Great harmony. This song has been done numerous times, but this was in 1965, live, and there aren't any auto-tunes or computer-assist gizmos back then. Bobby owns this song. Check out their hit recorded live in 1964 - You've lost that loving feeling(featuring both singers) and '66 live recording of Soul and Inspiration(both singing with an emphasis on Medley).
The infamous pottery scene from "Ghost" which makes me cry every time I see it. See it for yourself. Then watch the whole movie! Don't forget a box of tissues (or 2). Love the reaction. Thank you 😊
Awww...the late Bobby Hatfield! I was 15 years old when I watched him sing this beautiful song on the Andy Williams show in 1965. Yes, I am old but I never get tired listening to him sing this beautiful song! RIP BOBBY! Thank you for the memories! ❤❤❤
You've heard it for sure. Movies definitely.
As a duo, "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" is probably one of the most popular songs ever. The video live performance is absolutely amazing. Cher was one of the backup singers on that video.
They performed duets but each usually did a solo as part of their act. It takes all of 10 seconds for Bobby to have the audience mesmerized. The guy was absolutely top notch. I like the little smile at the end knowing he had just nailed it. The accompaniment was pretty special too.
The term for the Rightous Brothers music is Blue-Eyed Soul. And these guys were fantastic at it. RIP Bobby your voice is missed by the world.
If you want to discover some fascinating artists, these guys are a great choice. The Righteous Brothers were huge in the sixties. They had 22 songs on the Billboard top 100 and in 1965 had three albums in the top 20 at one time. Their song ‘You’ve Lost that Lovin Feeling’ is the most played song of the 20th century…. And well into the 21st (was passed by ‘Every Breath You Take’ in 2019. It was also recognized by the Library of Congress in 2014 as having ‘significant cultural influence’. They started out with straight hard rock n roll for their first three years together, then were given ballads with Phil Specter’s Wall of Sound behind them. They also sang blues and gospel. They wrote a lot of their own material and some of it was covered by everyone from Mitch Ryder to Bruce Springsteen (Little Latin Lupe Lu, which was their first hit). Between Bobby’s counter tenor and Bill’s bass baritone they could cover most of the piano keyboard and their harmonies were stunning.🙂
Wow! What a history. I'm surprised I don't hear their name pop up more often. I definitely want to hear more!
@@MattFarkas 😁blues… ‘I Just Wanna Make Love to You’ and ‘Summertime’. Rock…. ‘My Babe’ and ‘Justine!’ (Not the live version… this is a bit raunchy and it was sanitized for TV) ‘American Rock n Roll’ (written by Bill). Gospel…. ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ standards… ‘Ebb Tide’ there is no live version of this, but a tribute singer does it live with Bobby’s name so don’t be fooled
@@MattFarkas Check out Fil's reaction channel "Wings of Pegasus". He isolates Bobby's voice and its absolutely incredible to hear him sing without the music!!! He gives quite an analysis of Bobby Hatfields voice.
Bobby was 25 yrs old when this was recorded in 1965.
The song was called Unchained Melody because it was from a prison movie called "Unchained", made in 1955. The prisoner sings it in the movie wondering if his girl is still waiting for him when he gets out.
Called " blue-eyed soul "You heard it in the movie " Ghost "
They started off as rock and roll, then a later producer put them on ballad type songs - an image or reputation they had a hard time overcoming. But if you ever saw one of their live shows they were incredible and high energy.
I believe they each usually did one solo per album.
*You've Lost That Loving Feeling* is probably their most well-known song with both singing.
Righteous Brothers were my favorite! Although there were only two of them, their songs could always touch your soul! I was 13 year old when this song came out. Today, I am 71 years old. I had the 45 single record in 1966 and now it’s on my iTunes playlist. I love this song more today than I did in 1966!
Check out Soul and Inspiration to get an idea of the duets. Both Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield suffered tragically during their life. Bill Medley’s wife was raped and murdered, yet the police didn’t solve the crime until 41 years later.
Bobby Hatfield was woken up by his manager while on tour. He was found dead in his hotel room. Cause of death was listed as cocaine overdose which exacerbated a less serious heart condition. “Rest in Peace, guys and keep singing in rock and roll Heaven “!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
Bobby had a four octave range singing from tenor to counter-tenor. No falsetto! That was in his normal range! This was live on the Andy Williams show with his mom and dad in the audience never having heard him perform live before. He had a cold and was worried about hitting that last top note. Nailed it! This song has been covered by many but it's so incredibly hard to sing. That decresendo was magnificent was well as the close (and all the way through as well). Bobby owns this song now in the same way that Johnny Cash owns Hurt (originally by Nine Inch Nails). The guy who wrote Hurt originally said in an interview "that's not my song anymore" because Johnny sang it so well from the heart. That would be another one to cover.
Real instruments, real singer, no autotune. Those were the days.
Soul and Inspiration would be another great Righteous Brothers song to check out!
Blue eyed soul. Most DJ's thought they were black. Some played this until Bobby and Bill made a station stop then they said no no and pulled the song. Old song done by hundreds of artists, Bobby made it his song. Extraordinary vocal performances!!!
If you watched Ghost it was on the soundtrack. You've Lost That Lovin Feeling is a great song. They both are singing it together. Thank you. Have a blessed day.
This was a rare solo performance by Bobby that I watched live on the Andy Williams Show in 1965. The studio recording is both Bobby and Bill together and the recording you hear in the movie Ghost. Bobby never recorded this as a solo and this live tape is all there is of him singing this song. So treasure it. I have Sam Cooke's cover of this song on 45 RPM also. He covered the song in 1960. The original was sung and recorded in 1955 for the movie Unchained by Todd Duncan. Elvis covered the song in 1977.
In this version, of Unchained Melody, Bobby Hatfieds hits the last few notes on a much higher register. He did NOT do those notes in "Ghost," nor in the original recording. I believe those
last great notes were for his mother, who was in the audience. That little bite of his lower lip
is the "Tell!" No one before or since gives this song such heart. It never fails to breathe life
into those who listen.
This was a live performance on the Andy Williams show there were no do overs just his amazing voice no auto-tone or gimmicks Just pure talent.Bobby's performance was effortless, smooth and sheer perfection no one will ever compare to his performance He owns this song .The other brother Bill Medley was there and they sang together later in the show they both sang with Andy Williams. They were also known as the Blue Eyed Soul Bros because they sang from their hearts and souls every performance. Bobby had the tenor voice and Bill Medley was the baritone voice they shouldn't have blended together but they did and it was pure magic. LISTEN TO OTHER MUSIC BY THEM. IT was in the movie Ghost. They did solos also. Bill Medley sang the Dirty Dancing song. And they did other movies too.
Nice reaction to an unbelievable performance!
Thank you!
You may have heard part of the song in the film, 'Ghost.' Each of the Brothers also did solo songs on their albums. This performance was on the weekly 'Andy Williams Show'. There is video on UA-cam of the three discussing the 'how' of Bobby getting to sing this song. Brother Bill is very funny. Bobby has a counter-tenor voice. Bill has a bass-baritone voice. Also, after this song the three of them sing, 'What I'd say,' which shows how funny and fabulous they were. It's also on YT. My favourite from the Righteous Brothers is, 'Soul And Inspiration', for me a beautiful, heart-touching song. I've loved them for 57 years. Greetings from Australia.
Greetings! I haven't seen the movie Ghost, so if I have heard this song before it's from something else I guess, haha.
it was in the movie Ghost
Bobby Hartfield and his partner were singing guests on the Andy Williams Show, but only one of them sang this song by mutual decision. However, I think they sang other songs together in that same show, if I remember right.
Unchahained Melody was a part of the sound track to the Movie, Ghost.
LIVE. No auto tune, no BS, all raw talent ♥️
You can feel Bobby's voice in your soul. RIP Bobby.
Most beautiful voice ever sent to us. Like secretariat was the most perfect horse, Hatfield was the most perfect singer.
WOW de la película Ghost!!!
Magnífico!!! En español:"melodía desencadenada".
BEAUTIFUL 💕💗😍
Both sing on “You’re My Soul & Inspiration”
Ever seen the movie "Ghost"? This is pretty prominent in there.
Thank you for reacting to a song from my era!
I haven't! Is it a good one to see?
@@MattFarkas Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Whoopie Goldberg. It's from 1990 and is still pretty popular.
@@MattFarkas Pure excellence!!!
I really enjoyed this. Check out more from them!
First time anyone hearing this song when it was written in 1955: Liberace on piano: ua-cam.com/video/swypYbRHd5A/v-deo.html
Sam Cooke in 1960: ua-cam.com/video/T-LZHz2IUzs/v-deo.html
This one of Bobby Hatfield was on the Andy Williams show on live TV. The other half of the group wasn't in on this one, Bill Medley. And no they weren't brothers, but were soul brothers...one to check out by them both is You've Lost That Loving Feeling, both of which were in movies...Top Gun and then this one was in the movie Ghost. Got to see the Righteous Brothers in concert in the early 70s, fantastic!
Perfect!❤❤❤
I you watched the Patrick Swayze movie, Ghost, you would have heard it playing when Demi Moore is making pottery and Patrick joins her in a most romantic scene!
It was sung in the Film Ghost in the famous pottery scene !
Apologies if someone else had said this: The song was from a 1955 movie called "Chained" about a chain gang prison. It was sung by a black opera singer named Todd Duncan (one of the prisoners) - it's on UA-cam. The song won an Academy Award in 1955. For the 1955 versions, check out Roy Hamilton and Sam Cooke (on UA-cam). But this version was the one that really took off. Bobby was the one that started singing "I need your love" up an octave, which subsequent singers emulated less successfully IMO.
Back in the day we were leaving their show and I said the applause was deafening and she said that the applause was loud but all the panties hitting the stage was louder lol maybe lol
Played in movie ghost 1990. Extremely nice song. No auto tone or software, live. Also it was called blue eye soul as a genera.
From the movie Ghosts
This song was in the movie Ghost. If you haven't already heard it, check out You've Lost That Loving Feeling. It's awesome!
It was sung in the movies Ghost
Love theme from patrick swaze "ghost", with whoppi goldberg and demi moore
It was on the movie Ghost. That was Bobby Hatfield. They each did solos, this song was sung by Bobby on the flip of a coin. This was and always will be Bobby's song. No one's ever done it better. Try You've Lost That Loving Feeling. It showcases both singers.
Excelente, hermosa canción, me pone muy triste hasta me hace llorar con solo pensar en no tener mí único amor," mí esposa"
Hi from Australia!
Alot of people think they've never heard the song because they don't recognize the title. UnchaIned Melody does not appear anywhere in the lyrics.
Unchained Melody probably sounds familiar to you because many people who are auditioning for American Idol or America's Got Talent sing this in their audition. Sadly, not many of them even begin to do it justice. It also may sound familiar because it was played during one of the scenes in the movie "Ghost" that starred Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore.
"You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling" and "Unchained Melody" were both released in 1965. That was a time when color TV was brand new and some shows were in color and some were still in black and white. You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling was filmed in black and white but Unchained Melody was in color. Because color was so new, producers of TV shows that were going to be broadcast in color wanted some bright color that would really stand out in this "new" format. I think that accounts for the pink suit Bobby is wearing. Also, because color was so new, makeup artists might not have quite figured out how to make entertainers look life-like and that may account for how orange Bobby looks. This of course was long before autotune and it was live so there was no tweaking done by engineers on a sound board back in the studio. It was purely TALENT, and lots and lots of practice.
The colour was ‘off’ in this version. Try the one by RVBO - Bobby has a natural skin colour, his jacket is pink rather than salmon - and Righteous is correctly spelled😁
How can a songwriter have not heard this song before. I think you need a bit of a deep dive into history even way beyond the period of this song.
That was a VERY popular song, commonly referred to as "panty droppers" music.
Others have sung this song but not like Bobby Hatfield. But you should check out more of the Righteous Brothers songs where they sing together, "You've lost that loving feeling" and "You're my soul and Inspiration".
It was a live version but the studio recording was used inthemovieGhost with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze. Originally done in1955 forthe movie unchained by North and Zarit. This version live, no dubbing and nothingjust pure singing the best live performance ever and this done in1965
They each sang one solo on each album.
This song was used in the famous movie ghost with Patrick Swayze
OF COURSE YOU HAVE HEARD IT ! REMEMBER THAT GREAT FILM "GHOST" STARRING PATRICK SWAYZE AND DEMI MOORE AND WHOOPIE GOLDBERG.
THE VERSION IN GHOST WAS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT BUT BOBBY HATFIELD WAS THE SINGER.
I HAVE HEARD MANY SINGERS SING THIS SONG INCL ELVIS, DIAMOND, HUMPERDINCK, BUT BOBBY SANG IT THE BEST. HE REALLY DOES 'OWN' THIS SONG.
I APPRECIATED THAT YOU DID NOT INTERUPT THE PERFORMANCE AND ENJOYED IT AS WE ALL DID.
It was in many movies.
Bobby Hatfield sang this song on the flip of a coin between him and his partner, Bill Medley. Bill then produced the song using Phil Specters studio and his famous "Wall Of Sound".
Bill did indeed produce this and used some of the ‘Wrecking Crew’ but he did not use Phil’s Wall of Sound technique. It was an album cut, much more low key, and Bill played the piano backing it up.
You probably remember hearing this song in the movie "Ghost," in which the song played as Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze sculpted pottery in the sexiest pottery-making scene ever. ua-cam.com/video/MhAE3lQ_FHg/v-deo.html
its used in alot of film
One take live in a studio with no autotune, distracting dancers, just a pure natural voice. Don't get that type of talent anymore, it's mostly manufactured. My folks called them "blue-eyed soul".
Amazing!
❤❤❤❤세계 최대의 명곡입니다
Little Latin Lupie Luo.
No autotune
It was the song that played on the movie ghost. You need to do some research before you react. you would know it’s a solo by Bobby Hatfield, which has set the gold standard that nobody has been able to share fast is 1965. Bobby Hatfield was a countertenor. He could take his voice anyway he was pitch perfect, and totally controlled while he sang.
Bobby won coin toss backstage to see who would sing this song. Bill was there waiting to sing their duet for their 2nd song. Bobby had a head cold and still nailed it. NO Auto-tune. This has been recorded by hundreds of people
If there actually was a coin toss, it would have been when it was recorded, not at this performance. By this time of this performance, it was already a hit; and, nobody but Bobby would be singing it. In fact, Bobby was singing it with his group, The Variations, before he met Bill. They each did solos both in recordings and performances.
The movie Ghost.
you just heard the best.... ........
I like the smug look he gives at the end because he knew two things, A) his mother was in the audience, and B) he had nailed this song.
You've Lost that Lovin'Feelin is their biggest hit that they sang together. It was the most played song on radio and television in the 20th century! The Righteous Brothers definitely should have been ranked in the top five ( if not number one) on the greatest duos of all time! Listen to 'Lovin Feelin' and Soul and Inspiration and You'll Never Walk Alone. They sang many great ones. They sang one solo apiece on their albums. Between their contrasting voices, the range they had, their versatility and the magical blending of those two monster voices. I think you might agree that being number 16 on that list is too low!
The movie ghost
Go to 1:08 to avoid his ego.
Bobby not Bill, and they did a lot of solos.
Bobby Hatfield righteous brother. Check out you’ve lost that loving feeling!
You've lost that loving feeling!!!
Janis Joplin at the Monterey Pop Festival. LIVE is best with her.
React to Kate Bush wuthering heights amazing she's a ghost that's come back for her lover really cool
I've heard it already, many times haha. Great song!!
Top shelf stuff. Those were the days. Now nothing but sexist/racist crap.
Bobby was a bad as singer, no one could touch him on this song. He died in Kalamazoo MI in 2003 on tour at age 63 with Bill, just less thna an hour from my house.
Lvid has sung this song but, Bobby has him beat
To be considered only 16th best duo is a joke...the range covered by the 2 is unmatched...not sure what criteria was used but pure talent apparently wasn't a big factor
