There’s a YT video that traces the performance history of Unchained Melody. It made its first appearance in a 1955 prison movie, ‘Unchained’. The theme song "Unchained Melody" was written by Alex North, music (15 Academy Award nominations for best song, including Unchained Melody) and Hy Zaret, lyrics, and performed by Todd Duncan. This song has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century: over 1,500 recordings have been made by more than 670 artists, including The Righteous Brothers, Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley, the Platters, Roy Orbison, Barry Manilow, Willie Nelson, Cindy Lauper, U2 etc. In 1955, three versions of the song charted simultaneously in the Top 10 in the United States. The song continues to chart in the 21st century. The song’s lyrics allude to the prisoner’s longing for freedom (hence the various senses of the word ‘time’ used in the lyrics: ‘(clock)time goes by so slowly, ‘time(served) can do so much’, also the prisoner’s fear (‘Will you still be mine?), his hope (‘I’ll be coming home’) and his plea to ‘Wait for me, wait for me’. Bobby Hatfield from The Righteous Brothers’ recorded it in 1965. It was the B side of a single 45rpm disc. That’s the version that appears in the 1990 movie Ghost (without the stratospheric interpolation at the end). What we hear on THIS video is the live 1965 performance by Bobby on the Andy Williams Show, in which he ends the song with an amazing ascent into soprano territory. Bobby’s upright posture, bold choice of clothes, diamond-studded ring on his pinky, his impeccable hair, suave demeanor etc exude amazing confidence and masculinity (despite a reported cold and a case of the nerves due to the presence of his parents in the audience). His flights into the stratosphere stun everyone, but it’s his low notes that make my tummy wobble ( ‘godspeed your love’ ): his perfect use of chest resonance makes them sound so soulful, so meaningful. Stunning and classy. Also, note how he creates a mix of pure vocalization (yodeling on the vowels) and conversational storytelling: his crisp consonants (b, d, g, t, m, etc) make the words perfectly clear. Bobby takes us on an amazing journey. One of the very best live performances of anything ever.
I believe that the reason this song is a classic and the most popular modern song in the world, is because it touches us on a spiritual level. It is the cry of the lover for THE DIVINE BELOVED. We are the river flowing back to the Sea/THE SOURCE.
Thank You for expressing how I feel about this Bobby Hatfield version of the song. His version on Shindig was soulful/sexual, and he expressed with his whole body.

This was done live on the Andy Williams Show on Valentines Day (hence the reason for the pink suit). Bobby Hatfield did this as a solo. They each did an occasional solo on their albums. This was done when he had a slight cold and he was nervous because his mom was in the audience. She had never seen him live on stage before. You may have heard this from the movie Ghost.

You touched this 63 yo heart! A big strong man so moved, by beautiful music that I grew up with makes my heart sing. Thank you for your love, you da man!
“The Righteous Brothers” are considered by most to be the Greatest Male Vocal Duet Of All Time. I agree. Between Bill Medley’s Lows and Bobby Hatfield’s Highs they can hit every note on an 88 key piano. No other male singers can do that. Legendary. “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin” was the most played song on radio in the 20th Century. "Unchained Melody" - Bobby Hatfield Live 1965. Considered by most as The Greatest Live Male Vocal Performance In History... I agree. Bobby's use of "Runs" is brilliant. He is the master of the technique and started the trend. 7 notes just to say the word "I".... Their name came when they did a show in a smaller venue and a black man told them…. You two Brothers are Righteous. In 1983, in Newport Beach O.C. Calif. Bill and Bobby at the Jolly Roger Restaurant . I was 13 feet away for... "Unchained Melody"- "You've Lost That Lovin’ Feelin‘" - "Soul And Inspiration".... They were perfect, awesome, amazing, incredible......
Thanks, da Real - I know people below have "enlightened you" to the Righteous Brothers - this is still my favorite -- Bobby on his own - I love that he seems so relaxed and never has to strain his voice for those incredible notes... look forward to more from you...
I used to know Bill Medley back in the day. He told me once that Bobby had been sick when this performance was recorded. You can tell his voice cracks a little and that he's swallowing over a sore throat, if you watch closely. One of the best live performances ever recorded!

Also, note how he creates a mix of pure vocalization (yodeling on the vowels) and conversational storytelling: his crisp consonants (b, d, g, t, m, etc) make the words perfectly clear. Bobby takes us on an amazing journey. One of the very best live performances of anything ever.
Timeless classic...for all generations ☺️
MASTERFUL!!!! No autotune!! Pure raw talent!!!
THIS IS THE GREATEST SONG EVER,,,MY MAN CALLED ME FROM ANOTHER STATE NEVER SAID A WORD JUST PLAYED THIS SONG OVER PHONE,,,,,I RAN TO HIM ,,,STILL TOGETHER,♥️THESE WORDS HIT ME IN MY ♥️
Great reaction! One of the greatest love songs ever written. And this is the greatest version of it. It was in the movie "Ghost" with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore if you've ever seen that. Thank you for this reaction!
YESSSAAAA!!!! These brothers are beautiful!!! All natural, no fancy equipment!!! Straight 110% talent!!!! most famous love song!!
Funny thing this live version is superior to the release version you can get on spotify
The live version is my favourite because we can see and feel Bobby Hatfield pouring his heart and soul into every word and note. Any version by Bobby Hatfield is heartfelt and magical! 💦🤍💜
Finally the reaction this song deserves!!!
Imagine yourself back in the day slow dancing with your girl, this song would make her fall even more in love with you.
Yes, I remember it well, those were great days, just dancing close, no bumping and grinding.
Awwww!! This comment made me touch my heart!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

GOTTA GO , I MADE HIS FAVORITE ROAST BEEF SUPPER ♥️
This was done live on the Andy Williams Show on Valentines Day (hence the reason for the pink suit). Bobby Hatfield did this as a solo. They each did an occasional solo on their albums. This was done when he had a slight cold and he was nervous because his mom was in the audience. She had never seen him live on stage before. You may have heard this from the movie Ghost.
This was played in the movie “Ghost” during the pottery wheel scene.
It’s a classic
Bobby graced us with his talent and golden voice and we are all better for it each time we listen to it.
If you've gotten sisters or a girl she might have been watching "Ghost" this was the song used alot in it
Just going through older videos you made. Now I want to watch Ghost again.
Loved them
Back in the day!!!
That music never dies!!
Thank you so much
I so enjoyed your reaction. I am a 73 yr old South African, 15 yrs old when this song hit.
They were given the nickname The Blue Eyed Soul Brothers, by black DJ'S They were amazing.
Remember Bobby Hatfield. That’s his song and no one can ever do it better than him. So. Don’t ever get confused whose song that is
Rest in peace dear Bobby, he sang EVERYTHING.........
Awesome!!..
The one & only Bobby Hatfield..
I'm 70 now & always brings tears to my eyes.
He was handsome & had a angels voice, hitting those high notes...
🙏🙂
(You’ve lost that loving feeling) that song will show the capabilities of both of the Righteous Brothers. That song should be next.
You are awesome
Thank you for your reaction I just love that smile you have on your face it made my day.
One half of The Righteous Brothers, Bobby Hatfield. He was a natural. I remember seeing this on tv when I was 17.
I just love your reaction. You are right on, this is pure talent. I would LOVE to watch your reaction to The Righteous Brothers You've Lost That Loving Feeling! I grew up in the 60's/70's and I wouldn't change it for the world.
That slow motion look to the camera 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 timeless music bro gotta love it this is waaaaaaay back when it was normal for men and women to love and miss each other crazy right it's true it's true alot of artists have done this song
your reaction is precious...love it
This was sung live on a tv variety show by one member of the Righteous Brothers, Bobby Hatfield. Both members of the duo were there, but they had decided that only one of them would sing Unchained Melody, and ultimately Bobby was the one that ended up to be the one to sing it.
You touched this 63 yo heart! A big strong man so moved, by beautiful music that I grew up with makes my heart sing. Thank you for your love, you da man!
They're a duo. Listen to You've Lost That Loving Feeling and Soul and Inspiration. Fantastic songs & singers.
I gotta say this once, old school music was the best! Absolute raw talent
Adogg, you've been drawn in by the Bobby Hatfield effect, no one can resist that voice. When you hear them together, wow, it'll knock your socks off!
And that’s all him no Autotune like today back then you sang the 50-60-70 songs that was great song and you can hear them singing nice and clean 😎🎸
