I watched Bobby sing this in 1965 on the Andy Williams show. I'm 72 yrs old and I still get goosebumps when I hear him sing. This is his song! No one will ever sing it like he does. Beautiful raw talent! This is his voice no gimmicks! 💞💞💞💞
Only Bobby can do THIS song justice!!! You miss out if you don't listen to their Solo's & whole body of works!! Fantastic the Dynamic Duo were, are & will ever be!!! I've listened to this sooooooooooooo many times & Bobby never fails to give me his love!!! Siggghhhhhing since 1965!!!! Pass them in!! Thanks 🌹❤️🙏🥰😍🙏🌹❤️ ENJOY!!! .He does ask us if we are STILL his!! Oh yes Bobby Hatfield Oh yes!!! 🌹❤️🥰😍💐😁
No cover is as good as this performance. Brilliant vocals, this was on TV, no Auto Tune, just a mike! I've been listening for 53 years, Damn, I have it on my playlist, there's no denying the 60's Soul influence of his singing. Just perfect. 85 million viewers can't be wrong. Thanks, Love your reaction, glad I found you.
This is one of the greatest live television performance by a solo artist and an orchestra I have ever heard. This epic performance performed live in (1965) 55 years ago still stands up today, and surpasses any cover that is out there. The instrumental arrangement by the 'Andy Williams Orchestra may it a point to make the string section prominent in this the best version of composer's Alex North's 'Unchained Melody.' The beautiful orchestration and 'Bobby Hatfield's' beautiful 'Tenor' voice help to create a masterpiece that will go down in memoriam as the greatest performance of 'Unchained Melody.' Ever! With this epic performance alone "Bobby Hatfield's legacy will go down as one of the greatest 'Tenors' in music history. May he rest in peace.
Talk about a vocal range. I fell in love with him all over again. What a heart throb. OMG Yes I am that old. I am lucky to have lived during a time of REAL talent. RIP my love. Great reaction. Thank you.❤
It's a Big Deal! Raw Talent! No shredded Jeans, fireworks, or running around on the stage. He uses his very talented pipes and nails it. Thank you for not interrupting again, the great Bobby Hatfield.
I first heard this song at this show as a teen who had gone to the Andy Williams studio with my aunt to see the Osmonds who were pretty regular on Andy Williams show. I was not real happy that the Osmonds were not there until I saw Bobby Hatfield do this song. It was so emotional hearing this song & I became a life long fan. I have heard others do this song but his is the one I remember. During the Vietnam war this song got a lot of airplay & even teens in school had it played for their sweathearts.
One of those songs when you just get lost in music and time stops while it lasts..Beautiful! (we use that word often too but I can't find another one to describe it better)
The quintessential love song. Covered by over 670 people but Bobby Hatfield owns it. Along with Bill Medley make up the greatest duo in history with their hits Souls and Inspiration, You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling, the most played song of the 20th Century.
Angelina Jordan adored Bobby Hatfield's version and emulated him when she sang her rendition. Many other great artists have sung it but Hatfield's version will always be #1 worldwide.
You’re born with that voice...I don’t care how many vocal coach’s you have. You can’t learn that. This was a solo by Bobby. The Brother were iconic! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Watching him preform it is special.
I to sang this to my wife at our wedding in 1983, as we danced to it with our oldest (but at the time 18 months) child. She, however she said I murdered it. I'm guessing it's not a song for a baritone, she told me I was of better sticking to my drumming. I thought it was an appropriate song as I was in the Royal Marine Commandos, I had returned from the war for the Falkland Islands when I proposed, and now was shipping out to Sierra Leone two days later, so much for my attempt at being romantic. On the upside she liked me in my Dress Uniform, and having my comrades forming the sword tunnel helped. I must have done something write because we're still together and she still puts up with my singing. With 4 children and 7 grandchildren, we got busy on 3 of our baby's when I was home, we adopted the young afghan woman and her 2 daughters at the end of 2015 after they saved my life in Afghanistan (a story for another time), and we are so much better for having them, we love all our family and that is our strength. I served my Queen and Country for 34 years in the Royal Marine Commandos and later in the British Special Forces, and then 2 years in hospital, and she stuck by me even though I'm mainly wheelchair bound now. We do actually have a song by Queen called "Your Me Best Friend", a very apt song as she has been my best friend since we were both 15.
I think the term velvet is often used and somewhat loses its depth. Such a stunning vocal range brings me a sense of grounded reality. Yes it does bring memories, but at the same time, an element of healing.
fun-fact: I was introduced to this song in the early 1990s ... I've been to a concert of the great, great David Hasselhoff!!! He sang that song live, which he recorded in the late 80s - got that one on vinyl :-) btw: Ddid you know, that David Hasselhoff was born as "David Michael Hasselhoff", so thatÄs why his "Knight Rider"-name became "Michael" ...!? XD
That's a good point. The orchestra supports and interplays with his singing almost like waves. Bobby Hatfield rehearsed and worked with the orchestra before the show.
This song became the anthem for our soldiers in Vietnam for their wives and girlfriends that they would be there when…if… they came home. Women still love slow dancing to this song…
This song has been recorded over 600 times. 25 year old Bobby Hatfield is singing. He is considered the best. Even over Elvis. I saw both of them in concert. Wonderful experience. 💗
Bobby Hatfield had a 4 octave range and perfect pitch. With classical training, he could have been a world class opera tenor. He and Bill Medley both had extensive solo careers and Hatfield truly excelled with his "blue eyed soul" sound. (Btw, the first time that phrase, blue eyed soul, was used was in reference to these two guys.)
You are correct....I can relate. This reminds me growing up...I love it then I still love it now. Other versions just cannot compare. Thanks for your reaction.
Bobby and bill medley had an agreement to do a solo song each album hatfield won the toss, this was on b side of their single hung on you, but radios didn't like it so played b side lol, rest is history
Awwww I used to play this over and over again. Thanks for playing this song tonight. Isn’t his voice so lovely? I love it!!!!! ❤️ my first time watching the live performance as well, Hap ☺️ I feel so happy to watch this with u.
Earlier in the live performance, this was on the Andy Williams Show. Andy asked Bill and Bobby about the name 'Righteous Brothers'. Bobby explained, they were playing Down South (in an era when white people weren't listening to Soul music) Bobby said, "A young black soldier stood up and yelled That's Righteous Brother, and they adopted the name." Also, when Andy asked them to sing their latest song, 'Unchained Melody', Bobby said, "That's me. I do that one." Andy looked at Bill and asked, "Why?" Bill sheepishly said, "I didn't think it would be a hit."
When is was playing in the late 60's..a lot of young men were going to the war in Viet Nam .. a lot of separated couples..and yes, time could do so much
I was a young adult in 1965, and when I hear this song, I think of the Vietnam War. So many friends were drafted, and they wondered if their girlfriends or wives would be waiting for them if they made it home.
I was a kid in elementary school when this was released, and I have memories of hearing this on the readio when it first came out. A true classic. Great reaction!
They are not actually brothers. I liked how you really got into the song. Great reaction. I can tell you appreciate how he brings the song to life!! The other “brother” is Bill Medley. It would be great to listen to a song with them both. They each kind of elevate the others’ voices. A good one to react to would be “You’re My Soul and My Inspiration”. It’s such a beautiful song too. 🌻🌻
This is from an appearance on The Andy Williams Show. Bobby Hatfield singing. Later, Andy comes out with the other “brother” Bill Medley. Hatfield passed away, but Medley was still performing in Las Vegas until the shutdown. Who sang the song was determined by a coin toss. Bill was happy that he lost. Medley sings the closing song in “Dirty Dancing” with Jennifer Warnes.
Music really can transform your sense of time. Not only the universal "takes one back to the first time you heard it; where you were: whom you wrote with, but humans have the ability to sing a song in their heads and get the duration correct to within 5% or so. I saw that somewhere and it feels like it matches my experience.
There have been many remakes but no one compares to Bobby Hatfields version! Imo. His voice was so angelic....his range was unbelievable! No auto tune & Live! What singer can do that?! lol. The way Bobby did! They both did solo songs throughout their careers. A lot of people thought they were black until they saw them..lol.
Blue-eyed soul at its best. What an amazing tenor voice Bobby had. Love Angelina's version of this as well. The Righteous Brothers (Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley) were not actually brothers, and got their name when they performed at a marine base in California, and the black marines would call them "righteous brothers." You should check out Morissette Amon singing this as well, which blew me away. That would be a great reaction video: ua-cam.com/video/SozLcVdONIE/v-deo.html
The other Righteous brother in in the songs...."SOUL AND INSPIRATION " and "YOU'VE LOST THAT LOVING FEELING " Really think you'd be Surprised with them both! Love your reactions , And the way your one eyebrow will raise up...Blimey ☺
THIS PERFORMANCE BY BOBBY HATFIELD IS WHAT WE CALL NOW "X-FACTOR PLUS". BOBBY TRULY HAD A GOD GIVEN GIFT AND IT SHOWED. AWESOME AND B E A U T I F U L BOBBY SUNG THIS SONG SOFTLY, SWEETLY, SMOOTHLY, SENSUALLY AND WITH SOUL GRIPPING PASSION THAT WAS SO PURE, CLEAN, ELEGANT AND WONDERFULLY BEAUTIFUL I HAVE HEARD MANY VERSIONS OF THIS SONG (incl Elvis & Neil Diamond), BUT BOBBY REALLY SUNG THIS SONG THE BEST - PERIOD. HE TRULY OWNS THIS SONG. I HAVE SEEN MANY GIRL REACTORS AND MOST WERE SO EMOTIONAL OR TEARY OR SPEECHLESS OR OVERWHELMED OR SIMPLY "FELL IN LOVE" WITH BOBBY AND THIS SONG
A very thoughtful and enjoyable reaction video HAP3. Bobby Hatfield's vocal style here has an almost conversational quality to it that is truly unique. In my view this is one of the great live TV performances of all time, recorded live in 1965. To sound this amazing with no post production juicing, is simply astounding. Stay safe mate, RNB
This beautiful song was recorded by other singers, even Elvis, buy no one can match Bobby Hatfield's so perfect rendition. Pure magnificent voice, layered with deep emotion and soul. He melts hearts and this song will continue to do so for decades to come. Magnificent !! Cathy p.s. he has more beautiful solos, all on You Tube. Please check them out.
Bobby sang something like 92 separate notes in this song. What a voice. He had terrible stage fright. That night his mom was in the audience and he was nervous and he had a bit of a cold. Most couldn't sing half that well on their best day. What a legend. Oh, this one was a cover too, but it's the gold standard. His stage fright was so severe, he sometimes got physically sick before performing, and turned to cocaine. It contributed to his death, unfortunatly. RIP Mr, Hatfield.
This came out in '55 for a prison movie that didn't do well. BOBBY'S version in '65 (here) took it right to the top! Bobby could sing ) like an angel. R.I.P. We still love you. 💙 YOU'VE LOST THAT LOVING FEELING is both singing and pure magic!
I know this song was written with a prison movie in mind. But keep in mind 1965 was the Vietnam war. How many men and ladies were separated by the war. Waiting for them to return. Think of the song in this context. it is so moving. The best.
I was around when this song made its debut. It quickly became the theme song for every service man away from home during the Viet Nam war. Every Friday and Saturday night, it was dedicated hundreds of times.
As much as I know- the song was written for some prison themed movie in the 50s. The brothers version is the best known one. This is Hatfield (I don’t know if I pronounced it right)- he had a much higher voice than the other brother who was singing more in Bass voice. They each had their solo carriers. That’s about everything I can recall now but the song is wonderful and brings back memories for all of us I think.
You need to do You Lost That Loving Filling With the other one singing he has a much deeper voice and when they sing together it's magic. Great Reaction as always Stay Safe
After rehearsing this song for a while, Bobby was on his way home when he got an inspiration or idea, he called Phil Spector and went back to the studio to make a change and that is how we got the high note and verse "I ah ah ah ah really need your love", so glad that he came up with it
Phil Spector had nothing to do with this song except for claiming credit for it. Bill Medley produced it and Bobby Hatfield created his version of singing it.
Although Bobby made the last note look easy, he wasn't certain that he could hit it. If you noticed the smile on Andy William's face after the song was over and the handshake. He knew how unsure Bobby was about that ending.
Thanks, Hap - I know you recently reacted to Angelina Jordan's version - and my comment on that was that "she did almost the exact arrangement as Bobby Hatfield -- although she often changes arrangement to make it her own - I think I sad something like - guess she didn't see the point of changing a perfect arrangement" - anyway she totally hit it all - and in Bobby's LIVE performance here, I understand that he was nervous, b/c his MOM was in the audience..... nevertheless - I'm sure she was proud! (btw, also love Bill Medley, but he simply was not needed on this one... lol) One added comment: he is so EFFORTLESS on those high-reaching notes.... no strain, no sweat - it's as if it's "all in a day's work" - extraordinary!
The version you heard in Ghost was the studio cut. This is a live performance on the Andy Williams show. The arrangement is slightly different especially at the end.
Bill Medley (the other Brother) produced it and played the piano on it. He’s always said “ if I knew it was going to be such a big hit I would have hired a better piano player”.
Bill Medley was there somewhere because this was a concert and, of course, they had songs together. Bobby Hatfield was the right voice for this song. No auto tune in the 60s. It was effortless for him. Sadly Bobby did die in the early 2000s. But his voice and this recording will live on forever.
You should listen to an iconic song sung by both members "You've lost that loving feeling". Here is how the song appears on You Tube. You've Lost That Loving Feeling Righteous Brothers Stereo HiQ Hybrid JARichardsFilm.
He was the absolute best ever soul, romantic singer.
IMHO nobody sings like Bobby Hatfield!! Amazing vocals!! Always blows my mind!! Loved your take on it!
Top shelf blue eyed soul.
I watched Bobby sing this in 1965 on the Andy Williams show. I'm 72 yrs old and I still get goosebumps when I hear him sing. This is his song! No one will ever sing it like he does. Beautiful raw talent! This is his voice no gimmicks! 💞💞💞💞

Linda knocked Tumbling Dice out of the park.
Bobby had a cold when he sang this song live and he sounds just as good . Love 💘 this beautiful song.
Angelina who or whatever no one can touch this 1965 natural talent
This is one of the greatest live television performance by a solo artist and an orchestra I have ever heard. This epic performance performed live in (1965) 55 years ago still stands up today, and surpasses any cover that is out there.

Bobby had a rare counter tenor voice!
The greatest live performance EVER!
Pure singing voice live zero auto tune! Now that is real talent 😎
There were singers before him that did this song but Bobby Hatfield Owns this no one else will come close.Sheer perfection.
I heard it when I was 10. I still love this song even 1000 yrs from now !!!!!!!
This is the best live love song ever. His soulfulness is awesome 😀
The Righteous Brothers agreed that each would do one solo song on each album and this was Bobby’s. So blessed to have grown up with this music..
Love this song
Talk about a vocal range. I fell in love with him all over again. What a heart throb. OMG Yes I am that old. I am lucky to have lived during a time of REAL talent. RIP my love. Great reaction. Thank you.❤

Love hearing Bobby Hatfield sing this - could listen all day and not get sick of it. Great reaction, too Hap.

j'ai écouté sa version, ok, mais on est loin de celle de bobby !
Absolutely.
Wow, i am 68 years old and still get chills listening to this!

Whenever I see someone new to me has reacted to this, I tune in and listen just so I can hear it one more time.
Live! No autotune! Pure Talent!!!

Ohhh his voice was something else! One of the greatest songs written. Love your reaction to this! ♥️👻♥️
Yes and back then it was just his voice and a small microphone no do overs. He's so smooth no one can touch him.
His voice is like velvet!! So beautiful! So many memories brings me this song!!Amazing!! Awesome! Thank you Hap, great reaction!!
I think the term velvet is often used and somewhat loses its depth. Such a stunning vocal range brings me a sense of grounded reality. Yes it does bring memories, but at the same time, an element of healing.
Yes !!!!! Velvet
Nothing like this in today's music

Notis how the orchestra works it's way into this song. And remember this was Live 1965. You can feel Bobby's voice in your soul. RIP Bobby
That's a good point. The orchestra supports and interplays with his singing almost like waves. Bobby Hatfield rehearsed and worked with the orchestra before the show.
During the Vietnam War, all couples knew this song by heart! Talk about emotional!!!
This song became the anthem
for our soldiers in Vietnam for their wives and girlfriends that they would be there when…if… they came home. Women still love slow dancing to this song…

the song the three of them sang together, What'd I say, is the one I watch when I feel down, it always makes my day!
Susanna Riera It’s certainly a lot of fun to watch, too!
By the way, Andy William's was a really great singer, too.

This is heavenly a voice from above never dates
Loved your reaction to some blue eyed soul from 1964! Pure raw talent!
I’ve never heard this version. It’s amazing. Yess they are 2

Sung by Bobby Hatfield, produced by Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers
thanks for the background info Boris.
Thank you for pointing out the second "are you?" It's my favorite part of the song
I was around when this song made its debut. It quickly became the theme song for every service man away from home during the Viet Nam war. Every Friday and Saturday night, it was dedicated hundreds of times.

when he got an inspiration or idea, he called Phil Spector and went

came up with it
Phil Spector had nothing to do with this song except for claiming credit for it. Bill Medley produced it and Bobby Hatfield created his version of singing it.

GREAT REACTION MY FRIEND. I FOLLOWED ALL OF YOUR FACIAL EXPRESSIONS - I WAS RIGHT THERE WITH YOU.
So clear tht high note beautiful
Although Bobby made the last note look easy, he wasn't certain that he could hit it. If you noticed the smile on Andy William's face after the song was over and the handshake. He knew how unsure Bobby was about that ending.
RIGHTEOUS! 🎤👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💫
LIVE!!!
Thanks!
Wow thank you for this.
Amazing perfection
The version you heard in Ghost was the studio cut. This is a live performance on the Andy Williams show. The arrangement is slightly different especially at the end.
Bill Medley (the other Brother) produced it and played the piano on it. He’s always said “ if I knew it was going to be such a big hit I would have hired a better piano player”.
Melting here ❤️
This man owns this song😊
Bill Medley was there somewhere because this was a concert and, of course, they had songs together. Bobby Hatfield was the right voice for this song. No auto tune in the 60s. It was effortless for him. Sadly Bobby did die in the early 2000s. But his voice and this recording will live on forever.
This is singing its so beautiful
Very nice review.
Check out " Bring it on home to me, by Righteous Brothers. Very beautiful, harmonious singing by Bobby and Bill 😊.
excellent reaction
He was nervous as hell doing this. It was a National TV show and his parents were sitting in the audience....
You should listen to an iconic song sung by both members "You've lost that loving feeling". Here is how the song appears on You Tube. You've Lost That Loving Feeling Righteous Brothers Stereo HiQ Hybrid JARichardsFilm.
Bill is in the back with Andy Williams.
Bobby sings this one by himself.
