That will be great on those windy days.
Yes sir! 😁
Good install and upgrade! I've had mine a couple of years and love it.
Thanks John! I like it pretty good 😎
Dang! That thing can move justin 👌 it’s great to see how knowledgeable you are outside of fishing/guiding. Their is a lot of stuff you need to know when being on the water. Overall a Great plan. I’ve been a plumber for 11 years and I was impressed. Smart man my dude! Go get ‘em and tight lines.
Thank you Jacob!
Love it when a plan comes together, good stuff 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
Thanks man!
12 miles! That opens up all kinds of new possibilities. I know what my next project will be. Thanks for the info.
It was pretty cool to explore so much more.
Awesome man it looks good. You were moving along pretty good
Thank you Chris! It was pretty fun 😁
Great video mang!
Thank you
Dielectric grease all electrical connections on a regular basis. I didn't and had to replace the connections on my OT 106MK. Lots of prevention will keep you going on and on and on.
Great idea. Thank you Wayne for reminding me!
Opens up water on windy days…lots of options! Great effort…and so awesome of Tom to help with the install. Great teamwork and design boys! Your world is going to change so much…your going to really miss having that motor on days you don’t 👀🤷🏼♂️😂🤙🏻🎣
It's pretty cool to cover so much water!
Cool Justin! That’s the same motor I’ve been considering. Keep us posted.
I'm happy with the set up other than I hit the controller with my elbow. Couple kinks to work out still. I don't see another option so far but we will see
It looks awesome!!
Thanks Josh! 👍
Bro, you did an awesome job. My 1st kayak was the 2020' Tempest 120p, running the J2 Bixpy, with the vibe Gravity rudder. The boat was awesome. To get used to a setup, electronics, backpack, and just getting used to balance, fishing off a one man boat. Now I just received my 2023 Impulse 120, fin drive, in the limited edition seafoam color. She's beautiful, and arrived without a mark, just as my tempest did. The kayak is amazing. Power pole and motor ready. My NK-180 is going in this week. My kayak is always garaged, and washed off after every trip. I sold my Bixpy for the NK-180. And my tempest was sold in two days. I love everything about Hoodoo. They give you so much, to get started and more. Kayaks today are amazing. But they usually send you just the kayak. No paddle, rod holder, scupper plugs, line cutters.Just little things like that is another $300.00. Good luck bro. You're gonna love that motor. Especially the prop, fights off weeds like nothing. My best friend has the Bonafide SS 120, with the nk-180. And she moves. 😎 🎣 🌊
Thank you Anthony! I am still loving it man! I went 15 miles one day and the battery was on it's last leg lol. The only changes I will make are a quick disconnect for the battery, instead of needing tools to hook it up each time. Also the throttle gets in my way of my elbow and I need to move it maybe towards the front. Hoodoo is a great company. I had to reach out to them for a new rudder drum that was not on their website and they got one for me. I am displeased with the new model Tempest though. I bought a new one and then sold it. Very tippy and never finds it's stability like my old model. I would like to try out the Impulse 131. Sleek looking kayak. Just not a fan of the fin drives. I like the PDLs instant reverse.
@@cleanfunfishing just a heads up Justin. If you are the market for another tempest with the older hull style you can still get one. If you buy the “Tempest 120 hybrid” model it is the old style hull. The only difference is the rudder style, it is a flip down rudder instead of being tucked up under the hull. You have to buy the drive separately so it comes out to about $50 more in total.
@@jwjonetx Thanks man! I thought I had seen that option but I never looked into it. I have one more kayak to test out before deciding on a new one for this year, the Jackson Cusa FD. I already tested a Hobie Outback. Both are motor ready without much rigging
😂 “it’s got all that hp” good stuff! That wake coming off the bow, Kayak is MOVING!!!
Lol 😆 I need to see if my phone GPS will tell me the correct speed. Oscar's controller said 4.8 MPH
That was a cool video! 💯👍
Thanks man! 😎
DUDE!!! Thats freaking sweet 🤙
It's pretty cool man 😁
Awesome! You probably saved yourself few hundred $s on the homemade mounting plate & installation!! Looks great but mostly importantly, functional!
Thanks Adam! I think we did pretty good on it
Nice! Great set-up. Recommending silicone on all thru-hull hole & screws, dielectric grease on the electrical connections and carry an extra prop, shear-pins and a few tools. Keep those videos coming.
Thank you
Nice job 👍🏽.
Thanks Gilbert! 👍
Damn Man, that's slicker than owl shit!
Guess you officially have your captains license!
GREAT WORK!
Lol thanks man! Still just a paddle craft guide.
You and I still have some small details to work out. Glad everything worked out.
We will work out the kinks but only the controller placement is an issue. I just don't see where else to put it and not hit it with my elbow. I removed it as I was fishing and then placed it back on the track to make a big move
That’s a game changer!
It's a pretty cool set up Gary! I had a blast but didn't catch sh;t bc I was getting use to it lol
good deal Justin . i have the Newport Vessel kayak series 55 # of thrust it will do 6 MPH on my 10' Kayak.
Good deal 👍
Nice Idea J-CFF ,
I noticed some guys in Htwn area use a Suitcase Lithium that’s bout 1/3 the wieght ( but it costs a lot more ) , & wat occurred to me was a solar charger to add while ur out there fishing ,,, Thnx Sir 🤓👊🏼🤙🏼🐟🎣✨
It has plenty of power but it is heavy and already $699. It will have to due for now but works well for me I think so far
J-CFF ,
Good Deal Justin , u know if Old Twn would make a hull like da hoodoo tempest & add in da I - pilot feature w some great ergonomics w it : Wow ! it would be Sick ! 💥🤙🏼🤓🇺🇸✨
I have a similar setup on my tiny 8’ Pelican. 18 lb thrust Watersnake with a 20 Ah Chins lifepo4 battery . (Motor $125 5 lbs, battery $59 5 lbs, the kayak Rally 80x is only 34 lbs $165, top speed 3.4 mph proven range of 6 miles with 20% left on battery. I look ridiculous but I love it and it gets me to the fish on the cheap 👍😂
Whatever gets it done and have fun doing it 😁
Yessir 👍
😁 it was pretty fun!
We went almost 12 miles which could not have done that pedaling no way. Great exploring the outdoors in pristine waters.
It was fun to explore so much with you Oscar! Thanks for coming out with me!
Can you show so pics of your buddies set up with the power pole & The troll motor
I'm fishing with Oscar tomorrow and will try to get some footage for you
I have twin watersnake t24’s on mine!
We’re gonna have to race lol.
Lol let's get it! 😆
Amped outdoors is awesome. I just got the hundred amp hour.
Dang! Mine lasted the 12 mile trip and heavy enough for my little tempest lol. I bet yours last forever
@@cleanfunfishing I got a new very heavy kayak
Great install & Report.
I was wondering about the open hull at the battery placement. Are you concerned about water entry from rain, splash or (heaven forbid) turtling the yak.
It ended up being the only place that the battery would fit. I'd have to get a smaller one to fit under the seat or front hatch. The hull is not open in that little compartment that I put the battery in. It use to have a scupper plug that drains out of the bottom of the kayak but I sealed that a while back
@@cleanfunfishing Ah Ha! I didn't realize it was a sealed compartment. Cool! That makes it the perfect place for the batt!
You really got me thinking about electric propulsion again! (Like you, just to get to some of those distant hard to peddle/paddle to zones).
I fished Lake Erie with a kayak guide that had a bixpy motor. We were 2 miles offshore and he towed my back at over 5 MPH. Motors on kayaks open up a lot more of the marsh or bay.
It opens up tons of opportunities!
What sealant is best for leaks on your kayak?, because I have a leak on mine
I plastic weld the outside and use gorilla construction adhesive on the inside
Thank you SO much for posting!! I was wondering about mounting bc i have the same kayak with the rudder underneath the back. I was wondering how to mount the trolling motor with the back coming to a point (not being flat) for a flip rudder!! I'm still deciding between this or a Bixpy. What would you recommend?
The nk180 is a great, strong motor.
Do you think a smaller size marine board would work? If so, what size? I'm going to be all tapped out after dishing out so much money on the motor and battery lol
@@urtypicalguy I used 1/4 inch I believe and it was about $40 on amazon
@@cleanfunfishing what size? The link brings me to 1/2" x 24" x 27". I wonder if the 1/4" x 12" x 12" would work?
@@urtypicalguy this is the link from my order amzn.to/3UHIcfS
So typically 15-20mph wind is still comfortable for me. Does this make it capable of exceeding 20mph?
It'll push through it 💪
So how you like I know you love it 😀 💯💯💯💯💪💪💪💪💪
Ya I love it! 😁
so how are you steering with the pedals in?
My pedal drive and rudder are still fully functional when I'm not using the motor. The motor steers with a tiller handle/pipe
so I am curious, how do you steer? Are you able to still utilize the rudder or are the controls replaced with motor movement?
I have a pipe attached to the motor like a tiller arm and it turns the motor
@@cleanfunfishing awesome, I have always been curious with the motor attachments. Great idea btw I’m your buddies 3 hp motor connecting it to the rudder controls.
@@brodymurray3372 he ended up going with a tiller arm. Works better and easier to turn
Hi Justin. Can you not use your rudder to steer with the NK180?
It goes to fast and the rudder barely turns the kayak, on mine anyways. Some kayaks have sharper turning rudders though.
I want one but they retail at $2009 here in Australia just to damn much money.
They are proud of their price. Thanks for watching from Australia! 😎
Hi Justin, I was thinking about getting a Hoodoo tempest 120. The price is right for $1300.
I’ve never kayaked before and looking to hit the flats around your area and going out on a few trips with you.
Any insight on a beginner yak or anything that would save or cost me money would be greatly appreciated bud.
Need some with flippers if I could and something very stable. Also something I could put a motor on it eventually.
Any recommendations my fish warrior brotha 🐟🎣🐟🎣
Try the Hoodoo Impulse 120. They come with fin drive or propeller, your choice. The next step up is an Old Town Salty but $2500. If you are less than 230 pounds, then these kayaks will work for you on a budget. I don't recommend the new tempest. they made changes this past year and they are very tippy and tracking is horrible.
@@cleanfunfishing solid advice, that’s exactly the kinda of tips I was looking for bud. Ty ty. 😎😎😎Tight lines brotha 🎣🐟🎣🐟
What battery was you using
It's in the video and the video description. Amped outdoors
Amped outdoors Is the quality company they deliver quickly and their batteries are super light
so what was the total cost for that set up?
About $2k
Once you use that it’ll be difficult to make yourself paddle!!! Lololololol
Lol 😆 that is 100% true
Looks like that thing can haul some @$$
5 mph
Great video mang!
Thanks Jay! 😁
