My first rock album I listened to and fell in love was Americana by The Offspring. Before that only radio music. After Americana, it was Blink 182, New Found Glory, Jimmy Eat World, then more punkrocky bands, then some bands with some heavier sound like A Day To Remember, then some metal, screamo, melodic hardcore, Dance Gavin Dance etc. Still it all started with Americana some 20 years ago.

Ya, and 311 moved to Los Angeles. They actually recorded I believe it was the Soundsystem album, at a studio that shared a chain link fence with my middle school in Burbank. There was a basketball hoop in the area that shared the fence and a lot of kids were stoked they would be playing basketball there on breaks and kids threw their backpacks over and got signatures. School staff made the field there off limits for a time, kinda weak. They were cool guys. They even put in their thanks section the kids at David Starr Middle School.
But I never liked their music. during PE one time I saw them playing some ball and yelled "311 SUCKS" and the 2nd singer in the band, idk what else to call him, flipped me off. It was a good day for me.

This video genuinely surprised me. I never thought I would hear Finn say that he likes Limp Bizkit - "Break Stuff" and that it still holds up today, that he thinks Fred Durst is talented, that he loves the cranked up snare drum sound, that he loves 311, thinks they're talented, and has been listening to them since "Down", and that he likes old Red Hot Chili Peppers music more than their new stuff. That means Finn and I finally agree on some things and have tastes in common for once. I never thought I'd see the day. I like this new Twitch format he's doing.
    Some thoughts on the video:
    1) The 311 - "Come Original" music video came out in August 1999. I know JNCO was founded in 1993 only 6 years earlier, but the styles and fashions were slightly different and changed over time. People generally refer to the 90s as a monolithic thing, but the early, mid, and late 90s all had their own distinct style.
Also, you mention Nick's pseudo-ragga vocals. Come on dude, what do you expect? He's a white American, not a black Jamaican, so of course he's not going to sound completely "authentic", but Nick is a cool guy who was heavily influenced by dancehall reggae in the 90s and I give him credit for trying his best.
I think it sounds catchy, especially for the time, and makes the song what it is with the mix of styles. I hate it when critics go "hurr durr white boy reggae = cringe, bro", every time. It's always the same, tired old jab at 311 and any band that is white and plays reggae or reggae influenced music.
Does "Come Original" hold up 22 years later? Probably not, as it was a product of it's time, but IDGAF. 311 is my favorite band of all time and "Come Original" is my favorite 311 song of all time, hands down. I heard it right when it came out and I will always love it because it perfectly represents and mixes the different genres/influences into a single song.
Oh, and 311 moved from Omaha, Nebraska to Los Angeles, not San Jose.
    2) The Offspring - "Pretty Fly For A White Guy", as well as "Original Prankster", are intentionally funny/joke/parody songs. "Pretty Fly For A White Guy" makes fun of white guys who try too hard to act "gangsta". So while The Offspring has funny songs, they have plenty of serious songs, including "The Kids Aren't Alright", from the same album as "Pretty Fly".
    3) I always thought the girl in the "Misery Business" video looked like she was in her 40s, especially with the caked on make up. 32 is being generous in my opinion.
About that lyric: it obviously didn't age well, because it is no longer socially acceptable to slut-shame women, at least publicly and especially if you're famous. Is it a teenage revenge fantasy? Yes, but again, it's a product of its time and she was 17 when she wrote it.
It's one thing if Hayley is just tired of playing it, but that's one of their most popular songs, if not their signature song. I find it disappointing that they are not playing it anymore.
They could just change that one problematic lyric to something like "once a *bore* you're nothing more, I'm sorry that'll never change" when they play it live, for example, and there would be no issue, at least offense-wise.

It's fair to dislike Kiedis as a person (yeah its personally been hard to like the man after learning about that whole kidnapping thing aswell). But as a musician I don't get. Finn, you brought up a good point in the Limp Bizkit segment. Fred did a great job directing that video, especially with the celebrity cameos and the celebrities chosen have held up 20 years later. However, Limp Bizkit did not hold up 20 years later. Maybe you can do a video about the rise and fall of Limp Bizkit. Why were they so hot one minute and then fade away into obscurity over night? (BRW, I love the song “Break Stuff” but I hated the band.)

I saw Attack Attack! in 2012 at the "Scream it like you mean it" (RIP) tour and I could be incorrect but I think it was one of the last times that they played Stick Stickly and Smokahontas live, as they broke up shortly after and had changed their sound a good bit on their last album they were mostly performing. The crowd rightly went nuts when they played those 'classics' as encores. What an amazing show line up those tours always were...
Edit: OMFG and C!NCC! absolutely destroyed live back in this time as well. was lucky enough to see and meet them 2 times around 2011-2013. one of the times being with City Lights, For all those sleeping, and Upon this dawning at community center lmao. loved those days

Yo, Finn, you completely called it with Break Stuff getting a mosh pit as big as the bands playing while being played between live bands at a show. I saw Beartooth and wage war, and break stuff played on the speakers, and the crowd was singing it louder than the speakers and there were two circle pits going. I actually filmed it it was so hilarious. Break stuff really is timeless.
