That's some genius level call back. It's like when Sarah Lynn is a little girl and says that she wants to be an architect. We assume that's just a throw away line based on her flight of fancy kid nature. But when she mentions it again in her final episode and shows her knowledge of architecture, you realise that was all she ever wanted to be, and was forced into another lifestyle outside of her decision. This show is a gold mine of nuggets like that that make it ripe for rewatching. If you can handle re experiencing the grim and haunting darkness in it, of course.
Also, note how his ringtone finally changed to something other than the Horsin' Around theme song at the end of the season. Probably my favourite moment of growth for Bojack. He FINALLY let go of the part of his past that made him the most miserable, other than his mother.

The first season brought up the idea that the Hollywoo lifestyle is a huge factor as to why Bojack isn't happy with this life. The whole LA is a tar pit scene, combined with the drug hallucination he has in which he lives a more rustic and "rewarding" life with charlotte show this. However, in season 2 when he actually visits Charlotte and he asks if she still believes what she said about LA being a tar pit is true, she responds with "it's not where you are, it's who you are..." implying that simply changing your environment isn't the answer to one's problems, especially not the kind of problem's Bojack has. In season 4, as you stated, also continues this idea that your environment is what's holding you back isn't the whole story - it's YOU. Think of how many people say that they need a change of scenery, or that people that grow up in the city feel like they'd rather live on a farm and would then be less depressed. Would this really change all that match? Bojack Horseman is such a wonderfully honest show. Great video too, btw
AtomicGT55 I think this is the one time I disagree with the shows philosophy. A change in your environment can mean a change in your habits. The number one thing they tell someone with substance abuse issues is to not hangout in their old environment. Stimulus from our environment is what triggers our behavioral decisions. If you want to lose weight and workout it’s also suggested to put a gym bag ready to go somewhere easily accessible to trigger our need to complete the action. One of the best advice I actually heard was how just the simple act of going to the gym and reading a book, getting it part of your routine, will mean you’re more unlikely to quit. Humans are easily influenced for a need of comfortability. If you’re stuck in the same environment you’re mostly stuck with the same stimulus triggering bad behaviors and I think in this instance Charlotte is a hypocrite because she did in fact leave LA and built a happy life for herself somewhere completely new. And although the shitty things you did or has been done in your past may always be there, not being in an environment that reminds you of those traumas gives you the opportunity to move on. Change the toxic environment and you’re more likely to change the toxic behavior.
TheCatsMeow I agree. I moved abroad from that hellhole Los Angeles to Germany and while I still struggle with my mental health, I’m in a FAR better position to deal with it here than if I were back home.
I also think this ties back into that scene where Bojack is driving at the beginning of the season. It really reflects how he thinks about life: in this scene, he is in a fancy car, and this is deliberately contrasted with the dirty ragged horses who are running that he sees. If you think about it, a car is a vehicle that Bojack has control over, but its not him who's powering it, as opposed to running where it would be only himself. It could be that the car represents Hollywoo and his lifestyle, and when he lets go of the wheel he is letting his fast paced hollywoo lifestyle go out of control and kill him. He is not taking responsibility for his own choices, blaming other things and standing back, letting it get out of control. This is vastly different than the image of the horses, who are just themselves. He is presented of the idea of a lifestyle where he can get down to the core of what he is and not be driven by anything or anyone except himself. In this scenario, he would also have to be honest with himself. He could no longer blame Hollywoo, or the past, or anything else for his own actions because it would only be him left to blame. This would force him to be honest with himself, something that he usually isn't. He feels a calling for that, whether or not he realizes all of those things in that moment, but also a calling from back home. His life from before is tempting, as he can keep pushing blame for his problems on others, but he doesn't want to do that anymore. He is afraid of doing this because ignoring his own effect on the world and other people is what he believes killed Sarah Lynn. This time, instead of blaming others, he first goes to the past. He next tries to blame his past on who he is and why he does this to people, but he ultimately finds that he can no longer do that either. He is left with only himself, and now he needs to come to terms with that. This new honesty with himself was difficult to grapple with, as we saw with him fixing up the house, but he finally comes to the conclusion that he can no longer look for scapegoats, continuing the cycle, and instead he must start working on improving himself.
Mariophreak I recently binged the show...and I can't imagine the grief between any of the seasons..I had to watch next episode immediately. S4 left it off where I could not be dying, S5 is scary.

You missed one important detail. Bojack goes to the grandparents' house and lives in misery and discomfort for a while because he feels he should suffer for what he did to Sarah Lynn.
I don't think that's why. He says "Whos BoJack Horseman?? He was a famous movie star... Until he gave it all up for a quiet life of anonymity." when Eddie the dragonfly claims he doesn't know how BoJack Horseman is. I don't think he was punishing himself, I think he was trying to actually run away from his life.
@@alexvaughan1013 you must hate star wars or something cuz his acting in episodes 8-9 was better than some of his earlier work in 4-6. You gotta admit that he’s a hell of an actor now at the very least. Some of his lines in the earlier movies (especially 4) kinda sounded half assed.
I believe it's also worth noting that BoJack changes how he responds to everyone over the course of the season, as well. The biggest example is at the end of "Ruthie". PC has just had an awful day: she lost another child, she fired her partner, her precious family heirloom has just been found to be a cheap plastic necklace, she broke up with the best boyfriend she ever had, and she found out that she'll likely never have kids. She's an absolute mess. BoJack calls her and starts ranting about how he doesn't wanna do a role, to which PC responds by saying she doesn't work for him anymore. He then actually asks her how her day was, but doesn't actually let her tell him because, well, he's still BoJack, so he needs to talk about himself first and foremost. He's had a frustrating day himself, you know. Then, PC tells him what she does when she has a bad day: she imagines the whole Ruthie scenario. Instead of doing what he'd do in past seasons, like berate her for being stupid and believing her own bullshit, he instead takes on a genuine tone of concern as he tells her that her fantasy is fake. He genuinely feels bad for her in that moment. I feel like that moment is overlooked a lot because of the stuff with his mom and Hollyhock (which isn't necessarily a *bad* thing, mind you). BoJack is changing throughout the entirety of the fourth season, and I think all of these changes are going to be the basis of the fifth season, where, after three seasons being the one needing help, and another where he begrudgingly tries to help someone else, he finally becomes the one to do all the helping. Now, obviously, it's not gonna all go hunky dory, since this is BoJack Horseman, but I feel like it's still going to be a real turning point for BoJack as a person. Sorry, this got more long-winded than I intended it to, but I just love this show, and I've really enjoyed his development in Season 4.

Haha sorry , but Bojack is always going to have his problems because of his stubbornness . There is no happy ending in life , and that's the point of the show . No one is ever promised a happy ending or even any happiness at all .
The ending had me flooded in tears and happiness. I don't even know if I ever before cried out of happieness. That is some poverful storytelling. Amazing show.
Yoseqlo Yoseloq it also works with the moral of the show. One of its big themes is that to achieve happiness you have to work for it, there are no short cuts and that you know it. Bojack was trying but it takes time and consistent effort. Which is why he won in season 4 he worked his ass if hpfor the happiness of someone he really cares about and so he wins. It also shows how bojack could have done better in earlier seasons with the people who used the F word. If he tried more and would have been less selfish, maybe he could have saved his relationships or even Sarah Lin.
One observation... @3:17, I'm like 98% sure Eddie is a horsefly. Which, I mean, couldn't be more perfect in terms of a parallelism/analogy ... The Horsefly who refuses to fly helping the "flying" horse that just wants to land.

I'd really love it if either you or someone made a video that touched on Bojack's attempted suicide in the Season Three finale, because to me, it perfectly reflects the suicide of Secretariat in the Season Two premiere. Both were at an emotional low point in their lives, and both have also suffered a burdening tragedy that hurt them immensely (Secretariat through permanently losing his racing career, and Bojack through feeling guilty about Sarah-Lynn's death). The one key difference here, is that whereas Secretariat saw no reason to keep living, Bojack was given another opportunity to start over and become the man he wants to be. In summary, I believe that Season Three's finale was a perfect counterbalance to Season Two's premiere: Secretariat symbolized giving in to your sorrow, whereas Bojack symbolized being given a second chance. Life was basically telling him to be better and not to make the same mistake Secretariat did many decades before. It's literally the cycle of death and rebirth.
I think a lot of the point of Time's Arrow is to explain Beatrice and sympathize with her in the very moment we *should* hate her. She's emotionally abusive because she was emotionally abused. It's a cycle. It probably didn't start with Joseph.

It was his lack of empathy and atrocious way of dealing with "women emotions" that lead him to lobotomize his wife after Crackerjack's death and to treat Beatrice the way he did until she went to California. Most of that came from the way women were seen back in the day and how men would deal with this, but he did go the extra mile, and it doesn't seem like he became like that due to being abused during childhood. It *COULD* be but until that is explicitly shown, it's not absurd to think he was outright a horrendous person, I mean... horse-person
I really loved the way the 4th season went. It could've gone in so many directions. Bojack could've been a free horse, or he could've been removed from society. But This; finding a long lost sister, who wants to be part of his life despite how horrible he can be, and who he genuinely cares for, that was perfect. That hopeful smile he has in the end makes me look forward to what happens in season 5.
I also hope that maybe the other characters can go through the same change Bojack has gone through. Like Bojack, they deserve some happiness in their lives. Like PC or Diane and Mr. Peanut Butter. One thing I hope for is maybe Princess Carolyn having a child again, or maybe adopting a child or fostering, and going through a change where she can genuinely put her child above her career. She can still be herself; hell, maybe the child might be just like her, and the two of them can level each other out by interacting through PC's job and daily life in Hollywoo.
I have to admit, the final line of Season 4 where Hollyhock admits she's never had a brother and the music swells and Bojack slowly smiles the biggest genuine smile he's ever had.... I dunno why but even typing about it I tear up a bit. He's such an asshole that constantly fails at changing his ways, hurting himself and everyone around him. To see someone so damaged and horrible really break out of the cycle of abuse even for just a moment only to get rewarded some sincere love is such a beautiful thing to witness.

I don't get why Eddie's supposed to be a dragonfly, he looks like a bluebottle fly, I can kinda see the dragonfly wings and antennas but he still just looks more like a house fly. The art team and writers clearly didn't communicate well
I may be fully talking out my ass here, but I thought that was intentional? Kind of symbolism since he's called a dragonfly, but he's visibly really just a shiny housefly, which I think works very well with his arc and what he represents to Bojack

One thing I love bj horseman for is that it goes beyond good and evil. Yet everywhere I go I see passionate hate for Beatrice. Many see her as the villain. But she belongs to the set of people/animals mentally broken by the situations of life and then repeating the same patterns of thought and behaviour causing more suffering to everyone around and themselves. It's not like she's willingly destroying bj's life, knocking him down at every opportunity, no. Growing up she learnt not to take others' feelings in consideration, having a set standard to which things need to be done and if they're not she'll let people know. Of course dealing with servants and raising a child is a very different relationship but there was nobody to tell her with her mom being essentially a living dead. That they decided dementia will be the best solution for their relationship was really a downer for me. Obviously they wanted to make hollyhock the focal point of the season, not beatrice..
I think the closure Bojack finds in this season will only be temporary and something horrible will happen to put him right back at the bottom. There are still a couple more seasons to go and the creator himself has said that he doesn't believe in happy endings.
I don't mind if Bojack has more hardships on his life, but I would be really disappointed in the show if he backtracked at this point. The demons he defeated during season 4 weren't just any old problems, they were the major ones he's needed to fix since the show started. Whatever problems that come his way, they should be relatively unrelated to his progress or they should be consequences of his new mindset.
Xeli Tsutsaroth I think the creator doesn’t believe in the sitcom happy ending in which everything turns out alright in the end: he does believe that there are peaks and valleys in happiness and real life and that not everyone is a jerk or an angel 100% of the time. BoJack saved a marriage in Season 3: Princess Carolyn lied to her former assistant Lauren about going to bat for her promotion when she wrote a letter saying she wanted Lauren to remain an assistant. Todd is an idea guy that doesn’t follow through and doesn’t always foresee the trouble he can get himself into: Mr. Peanutbutter’s actions straddle the fence between selfless and self-serving: Diane can go from insecure to fierce in a flash.
One of the only problems I have with Season 4 is they just dropped the issue of Ethan and his new show. He put all his money into that sequel show, and Bojack abandons it. It’s never brought up again. What happened to Ethan??
I disagree about what is going on with HollyHock. These episodes focus GREATLY on what it’s like to deal with depression, how it feels to be inside the head of someone with depression, and it’s been established when Beatrice speaks with Bojack she talks about how depression is inherently given to him. Holly CLEARLY has depression. She asks about what will it take to get better. The DNA Callout, the writers cleverly discusses that trauma and genes creates this world for these characters. We find out, that Bojack ISNT the father, however, being his sister, she still exists in the world with this mental illness. The episode where Bojack monologues his thought process, constantly putting himself down is VERY close to what the thought process is like for a depressed person. I applaud this show exploring the issues of mental illness, self medication, trauma, and how mental illness IS hereditary. This show is beyond deep. Ironic there are animals to show the true human emotion of such deep process.
11:10 I think that finding Hollyhocks mother is probably the first *significant* non-selfish act that we really see. He's done nice things here and there, but this was game-changing for him. 12:27 This scene makes me cry cuz this is the other non-selfish act that he does. He lies to spare Hollyhock, something he hasn't done for anyone, even Diane. Diane at one point had said "When have you not been honest with me?" and this is the first time he intentionally was not honest. Truly heartbreaking. Actually scratch that, this WHOLE FUCKING SEASON IS HEARTBREAKING. Being a victim of abuse from my mother, I rly connect with BoJack and it kills me.
This clarified a few things that didn't sit with me in this season. I hadn't quite gotten the point of Bojack destroying the house after spending so much time fixing it. So thanks for that!
Bojack will do things that will upset Hollyhock in the future, but because of how he treated her in season 4, I think they've formed an unbreakable bond. I think Bojack has reached a point that he will no longer put his relationships in danger without doing everything he can to set them straight.
My favourite season. Mostly due to all the backstory we got and because they allowed the season to end on a much happier note. And that past/present duet, holy shit that was ingenious. Not to mention how terrifyingly real the episode with Bojack's thoughts felt, ended up crying by then end of it.

Bojack deserved that Hollyhock gave him the benefit of the doubt. If she had known how she inspired him to be better, and judge him for his present and not his past, everything would have ended a lot better. Bojack deserved that chance.
I rarely sub someone just because of the video they make. But I made an exception with you. I always thought I was related to him somehow. And I somehow thought his life was a little bit better than mine. Not the money, status, the life he chose to live. Those are vague and can be achieved by simply doing the things society favor. And I do not go after that as much as I did. Little do a lot of people knows, I’m in fact the nice guy that a lot of people say I am. I’m caring, loving, sensitive, and always a great listener. I always go out of my way to help others, but because of my need for people, since I moved to another place when I was a little kid by myself, my method of connecting to people by going out of my way and being the mr nice guy hurt me most of the time. The people I wanted to connect screw me over, and I believed that it was my problem for 4 years until I realized that it wasn’t. I also lied a lot for my own benefits and also to not let people see the parts of me being controlling, while at the same time attempt to act like someone who’s not. Recently I’ve came to a point of moving again, leaving all of my life that I’ve established behind and starting over. I didn’t know why I choose to do this, but it felt like what I needed to do. I’m living a great life rn in California, but I am going to move to east coast, leave all of the good people, which I was able to separate from the fake ones, behind and move on. Because of my fear out of all those people that have hurt me, I have trust issues and I thus became very controlling, even more than I was. I am scared to say goodbye, I am genuinely afraid to leave what I’ve already established because I’m afraid that it’s going to happen all over again. Now, I think what I need to do is what bojack is trying to do. Move on. I have been troubled by my past for too long, it made me depress, and it made me scared shitless. But here’s the problem, knowing the solution doesn’t make me see hope. All I see is to have a way that has a high probability of working out but also a low probability of fAilure. And I’m afraid of that, I’m afraid to go back to the life I was, and I’m afraid to be hurt by people. What do you think?
Well, firstly, I'm not a psychologist, I'm just a guy who takes cartoons way too seriously. What you're asking about is moreso life advice, which I'm fine to give, but know that it's very different from literature debate which is what my channel mainly does, so take my opinion for what it's worth. From what I've learned, the best way to go through life is to stick to whatever morals you yourself hold. At the end of the day, it won't matter how much people like you if you can't look at yourself in the mirror. You also have to accept that bad things will happen when you uphold those morals. A Person who always believes to tell the truth will find themselves in very uncomfortable situations if they live up to that view. Accept that consequences will happen from standing for what you believe. In fact, sometimes this will hurt you either emotionally or physically. In regards to leaving a life behind, I, for one, do my best to leave a situation only if I have no other choice. If my environment isn't right for me, I would prefer to fix the environment than find another, but I do recognize that this isn't always an option. Finally, there's the concept of "fear of failing" which is a reoccurring topic on my channel. My philosophy is that one should not let the fear of failing stop them from trying, even if they have failed multiple times in the past. The only thing failure tells you is that sometimes you should've done something different, not that you should never have tried. There is no limit on how many times you're allowed to try. So if the only thing stopping one from doing what they should is the reason "it might not work" then they should push forward anyway. Not saying that just because one tries that means that it's going to work. Yes, you might fail and yes, if that happens it will suck, but it's not a reason to not try. (speaking generally; specific situations would change my response to that)

I’m not even 21 yet, the stuff I went through did make me a little bit smarter. I don’t have the fear of failure in other things in life, such as academic, career, and all the other stuff that’s related to that. But I am fear of failing in making friends and relationships and such. I think that’s just because of my past. Uh....I kinda have a minor nitpick about the Eddie section. Living a simple life away from people can be really fulfilling as long as you yourself are aligned with it. For me? Season 4 is the best season yeah but my personal favorite episode specifically is S2E11 "Escape From LA" because Charlotte is my favorite character and with Bojacks progression in season 4 it makes me hopeful that he can somehow make amends with her, he can't just fix what he did but he can hopefully find a way to make things better

That's some genius level call back. It's like when Sarah Lynn is a little girl and says that she wants to be an architect. We assume that's just a throw away line based on her flight of fancy kid nature. But when she mentions it again in her final episode and shows her knowledge of architecture, you realise that was all she ever wanted to be, and was forced into another lifestyle outside of her decision. This show is a gold mine of nuggets like that that make it ripe for rewatching. If you can handle re experiencing the grim and haunting darkness in it, of course.

The first season brought up the idea that the Hollywoo lifestyle is a huge factor as to why Bojack isn't happy with this life. The whole LA is a tar pit scene, combined with the drug hallucination he has in which he lives a more rustic and "rewarding" life with charlotte show this. However, in season 2 when he actually visits Charlotte and he asks if she still believes what she said about LA being a tar pit is true, she responds with "it's not where you are, it's who you are..." implying that simply changing your environment isn't the answer to one's problems, especially not the kind of problem's Bojack has. In season 4, as you stated, also continues this idea that your environment is what's holding you back isn't the whole story - it's YOU. Think of how many people say that they need a change of scenery, or that people that grow up in the city feel like they'd rather live on a farm and would then be less depressed. Would this really change all that match? Bojack Horseman is such a wonderfully honest show. Great video too, btw
AtomicGT55 I think this is the one time I disagree with the shows philosophy. A change in your environment can mean a change in your habits. The number one thing they tell someone with substance abuse issues is to not hangout in their old environment. Stimulus from our environment is what triggers our behavioral decisions. If you want to lose weight and workout it’s also suggested to put a gym bag ready to go somewhere easily accessible to trigger our need to complete the action. One of the best advice I actually heard was how just the simple act of going to the gym and reading a book, getting it part of your routine, will mean you’re more unlikely to quit. Humans are easily influenced for a need of comfortability. If you’re stuck in the same environment you’re mostly stuck with the same stimulus triggering bad behaviors and I think in this instance Charlotte is a hypocrite because she did in fact leave LA and built a happy life for herself somewhere completely new. And although the shitty things you did or has been done in your past may always be there, not being in an environment that reminds you of those traumas gives you the opportunity to move on. Change the toxic environment and you’re more likely to change the toxic behavior.
TheCatsMeow I agree. I moved abroad from that hellhole Los Angeles to Germany and while I still struggle with my mental health, I’m in a FAR better position to deal with it here than if I were back home.
I also think this ties back into that scene where Bojack is driving at the beginning of the season. It really reflects how he thinks about life: in this scene, he is in a fancy car, and this is deliberately contrasted with the dirty ragged horses who are running that he sees. If you think about it, a car is a vehicle that Bojack has control over, but its not him who's powering it, as opposed to running where it would be only himself. It could be that the car represents Hollywoo and his lifestyle, and when he lets go of the wheel he is letting his fast paced hollywoo lifestyle go out of control and kill him. He is not taking responsibility for his own choices, blaming other things and standing back, letting it get out of control. This is vastly different than the image of the horses, who are just themselves. He is presented of the idea of a lifestyle where he can get down to the core of what he is and not be driven by anything or anyone except himself. In this scenario, he would also have to be honest with himself. He could no longer blame Hollywoo, or the past, or anything else for his own actions because it would only be him left to blame. This would force him to be honest with himself, something that he usually isn't. He feels a calling for that, whether or not he realizes all of those things in that moment, but also a calling from back home. His life from before is tempting, as he can keep pushing blame for his problems on others, but he doesn't want to do that anymore. He is afraid of doing this because ignoring his own effect on the world and other people is what he believes killed Sarah Lynn. This time, instead of blaming others, he first goes to the past. He next tries to blame his past on who he is and why he does this to people, but he ultimately finds that he can no longer do that either. He is left with only himself, and now he needs to come to terms with that. This new honesty with himself was difficult to grapple with, as we saw with him fixing up the house, but he finally comes to the conclusion that he can no longer look for scapegoats, continuing the cycle, and instead he must start working on improving himself.
I almost got sucked into that life. Can confirm. It...it does things to you. And I'm horrified that so, so many people yearn for that lifestyle.

I agree. Season 4 was the 1st season to truly end on a happy note. And I just know season 5 is going to come along and screw all that up.
Mariophreak I recently binged the show...and I can't imagine the grief between any of the seasons..I had to watch next episode immediately. S4 left it off where I could not be dying, S5 is scary.

You missed one important detail. Bojack goes to the grandparents' house and lives in misery and discomfort for a while because he feels he should suffer for what he did to Sarah Lynn.

Until he gave it all up for a quiet life of anonymity." when Eddie the dragonfly claims he doesn't know how BoJack Horseman is. I don't think he was punishing himself, I think he was trying to actually run away from his life.

I believe it's also worth noting that BoJack changes how he responds to everyone over the course of the season, as well.
The biggest example is at the end of "Ruthie". PC has just had an awful day: she lost another child, she fired her partner, her precious family heirloom has just been found to be a cheap plastic necklace, she broke up with the best boyfriend she ever had, and she found out that she'll likely never have kids. She's an absolute mess.
BoJack calls her and starts ranting about how he doesn't wanna do a role, to which PC responds by saying she doesn't work for him anymore. He then actually asks her how her day was, but doesn't actually let her tell him because, well, he's still BoJack, so he needs to talk about himself first and foremost. He's had a frustrating day himself, you know.
Then, PC tells him what she does when she has a bad day: she imagines the whole Ruthie scenario.
Instead of doing what he'd do in past seasons, like berate her for being stupid and believing her own bullshit, he instead takes on a genuine tone of concern as he tells her that her fantasy is fake. He genuinely feels bad for her in that moment.
I feel like that moment is overlooked a lot because of the stuff with his mom and Hollyhock (which isn't necessarily a *bad* thing, mind you). BoJack is changing throughout the entirety of the fourth season, and I think all of these changes are going to be the basis of the fifth season, where, after three seasons being the one needing help, and another where he begrudgingly tries to help someone else, he finally becomes the one to do all the helping. Now, obviously, it's not gonna all go hunky dory, since this is BoJack Horseman, but I feel like it's still going to be a real turning point for BoJack as a person.
Sorry, this got more long-winded than I intended it to, but I just love this show, and I've really enjoyed his development in Season 4.

The ending had me flooded in tears and happiness. I don't even know if I ever before cried out of happieness. That is some poverful storytelling. Amazing show.
It never stops amazing me that the show starring so many animals captures human emotion and complexity in such a real way.

Yeah, but it needed 3 seasons of misery to appreciate that end of the season. That's the art of crafting a story.
Yoseqlo Yoseloq it also works with the moral of the show. One of its big themes is that to achieve happiness you have to work for it, there are no short cuts and that you know it. Bojack was trying but it takes time and consistent effort. Which is why he won in season 4 he worked his ass if hpfor the happiness of someone he really cares about and so he wins.
It also shows how bojack could have done better in earlier seasons with the people who used the F word. If he tried more and would have been less selfish, maybe he could have saved his relationships or even Sarah Lin.

I'd really love it if either you or someone made a video that touched on Bojack's attempted suicide in the Season Three finale, because to me, it perfectly reflects the suicide of Secretariat in the Season Two premiere.
Both were at an emotional low point in their lives, and both have also suffered a burdening tragedy that hurt them immensely (Secretariat through permanently losing his racing career, and Bojack through feeling guilty about Sarah-Lynn's death). The one key difference here, is that whereas Secretariat saw no reason to keep living, Bojack was given another opportunity to start over and become the man he wants to be.
In summary, I believe that Season Three's finale was a perfect counterbalance to Season Two's premiere: Secretariat symbolized giving in to your sorrow, whereas Bojack symbolized being given a second chance. Life was basically telling him to be better and not to make the same mistake Secretariat did many decades before. It's literally the cycle of death and rebirth.
Beatrice's father is way worse even than her. He is very high on my list I of character I would like to Jigsaw.

I think a lot of the point of Time's Arrow is to explain Beatrice and sympathize with her in the very moment we *should* hate her. She's emotionally abusive because she was emotionally abused. It's a cycle. It probably didn't start with Joseph.

It was his lack of empathy and atrocious way of dealing with "women emotions" that lead him to lobotomize his wife after Crackerjack's death and to treat Beatrice the way he did until she went to California. Most of that came from the way women were seen back in the day and how men would deal with this, but he did go the extra mile, and it doesn't seem like he became like that due to being abused during childhood. It *COULD* be but until that is explicitly shown, it's not absurd to think he was outright a horrendous person, I mean... horse-person
I really loved the way the 4th season went. It could've gone in so many directions. Bojack could've been a free horse, or he could've been removed from society. But This; finding a long lost sister, who wants to be part of his life despite how horrible he can be, and who he genuinely cares for, that was perfect. That hopeful smile he has in the end makes me look forward to what happens in season 5.
I also hope that maybe the other characters can go through the same change Bojack has gone through. Like Bojack, they deserve some happiness in their lives. Like PC or Diane and Mr. Peanut Butter. One thing I hope for is maybe Princess Carolyn having a child again, or maybe adopting a child or fostering, and going through a change where she can genuinely put her child above her career. She can still be herself; hell, maybe the child might be just like her, and the two of them can level each other out by interacting through PC's job and daily life in Hollywoo.
I have to admit, the final line of Season 4 where Hollyhock admits she's never had a brother and the music swells and Bojack slowly smiles the biggest genuine smile he's ever had.... I dunno why but even typing about it I tear up a bit. He's such an asshole that constantly fails at changing his ways, hurting himself and everyone around him. To see someone so damaged and horrible really break out of the cycle of abuse even for just a moment only to get rewarded some sincere love is such a beautiful thing to witness.

I don't get why Eddie's supposed to be a dragonfly, he looks like a bluebottle fly, I can kinda see the dragonfly wings and antennas but he still just looks more like a house fly. The art team and writers clearly didn't communicate well

One thing I love bj horseman for is that it goes beyond good and evil. Yet everywhere I go I see passionate hate for Beatrice. Many see her as the villain.
But she belongs to the set of people/animals mentally broken by the situations of life and then repeating the same patterns of thought and behaviour causing more suffering to everyone around and themselves. It's not like she's willingly destroying bj's life, knocking him down at every opportunity, no. Growing up she learnt not to take others' feelings in consideration, having a set standard to which things need to be done and if they're not she'll let people know. Of course dealing with servants and raising a child is a very different relationship but there was nobody to tell her with her mom being essentially a living dead. That they decided dementia will be the best solution for their relationship was really a downer for me. Obviously they wanted to make hollyhock the focal point of the season, not beatrice..
I think the closure Bojack finds in this season will only be temporary and something horrible will happen to put him right back at the bottom. There are still a couple more seasons to go and the creator himself has said that he doesn't believe in happy endings.
I don't mind if Bojack has more hardships on his life, but I would be really disappointed in the show if he backtracked at this point. The demons he defeated during season 4 weren't just any old problems, they were the major ones he's needed to fix since the show started. Whatever problems that come his way, they should be relatively unrelated to his progress or they should be consequences of his new mindset.
Xeli Tsutsaroth I think the creator doesn’t believe in the sitcom happy ending in which everything turns out alright in the end: he does believe that there are peaks and valleys in happiness and real life and that not everyone is a jerk or an angel 100% of the time. BoJack saved a marriage in Season 3: Princess Carolyn lied to her former assistant Lauren about going to bat for her promotion when she wrote a letter saying she wanted Lauren to remain an assistant. Todd is an idea guy that doesn’t follow through and doesn’t always foresee the trouble he can get himself into: Mr. Peanutbutter’s actions straddle the fence between selfless and self-serving: Diane can go from insecure to fierce in a flash.
The last two episodes of season 4 are my favorites of the entire series (so far)
The Old Sugarman's Place, Ruthie and Time's Arrow are my top three in no particular order.

One of the only problems I have with Season 4 is they just dropped the issue of Ethan and his new show. He put all his money into that sequel show, and Bojack abandons it. It’s never brought up again. What happened to Ethan??
I disagree about what is going on with HollyHock.
These episodes focus GREATLY on what it’s like to deal with depression, how it feels to be inside the head of someone with depression, and it’s been established when Beatrice speaks with Bojack she talks about how depression is inherently given to him. Holly CLEARLY has depression. She asks about what will it take to get better. The DNA Callout, the writers cleverly discusses that trauma and genes creates this world for these characters. We find out, that Bojack ISNT the father, however, being his sister, she still exists in the world with this mental illness. The episode where Bojack monologues his thought process, constantly putting himself down is VERY close to what the thought process is like for a depressed person. I applaud this show exploring the issues of mental illness, self medication, trauma, and how mental illness IS hereditary. This show is beyond deep. Ironic there are animals to show the true human emotion of such deep process.
Please dissect Charlotte's episode. I think there was a ton more interesting factors going on there than the writers let on.
11:10 I think that finding Hollyhocks mother is probably the first *significant* non-selfish act that we really see. He's done nice things here and there, but this was game-changing for him.
12:27 This scene makes me cry cuz this is the other non-selfish act that he does. He lies to spare Hollyhock, something he hasn't done for anyone, even Diane. Diane at one point had said "When have you not been honest with me?" and this is the first time he intentionally was not honest. Truly heartbreaking.
Actually scratch that, this WHOLE FUCKING SEASON IS HEARTBREAKING. Being a victim of abuse from my mother, I rly connect with BoJack and it kills me.

Bojack will do things that will upset Hollyhock in the future, but because of how he treated her in season 4, I think they've formed an unbreakable bond.
I think Bojack has reached a point that he will no longer put his relationships in danger without doing everything he can to set them straight.

My favourite season. Mostly due to all the backstory we got and because they allowed the season to end on a much happier note. And that past/present duet, holy shit that was ingenious. Not to mention how terrifyingly real the episode with Bojack's thoughts felt, ended up crying by then end of it.

This analysis about Hollyhock hurts even more when you know what really happens at the end with her.
Bojack deserved that Hollyhock gave him the benefit of the doubt. If she had known how she inspired him to be better, and judge him for his present and not his past, everything would have ended a lot better. Bojack deserved that chance.

I rarely sub someone just because of the video they make. But I made an exception with you.
I always thought I was related to him somehow. And I somehow thought his life was a little bit better than mine. Not the money, status, the life he chose to live. Those are vague and can be achieved by simply doing the things society favor. And I do not go after that as much as I did. Little do a lot of people knows, I’m in fact the nice guy that a lot of people say I am. I’m caring, loving, sensitive, and always a great listener. I always go out of my way to help others, but because of my need for people, since I moved to another place when I was a little kid by myself, my method of connecting to people by going out of my way and being the mr nice guy hurt me most of the time. The people I wanted to connect screw me over, and I believed that it was my problem for 4 years until I realized that it wasn’t. I also lied a lot for my own benefits and also to not let people see the parts of me being controlling, while at the same time attempt to act like someone who’s not.
Recently I’ve came to a point of moving again, leaving all of my life that I’ve established behind and starting over. I didn’t know why I choose to do this, but it felt like what I needed to do. I’m living a great life rn in California, but I am going to move to east coast, leave all of the good people, which I was able to separate from the fake ones, behind and move on. Because of my fear out of all those people that have hurt me, I have trust issues and I thus became very controlling, even more than I was. I am scared to say goodbye, I am genuinely afraid to leave what I’ve already established because I’m afraid that it’s going to happen all over again.
Now, I think what I need to do is what bojack is trying to do. Move on. I have been troubled by my past for too long, it made me depress, and it made me scared shitless. But here’s the problem, knowing the solution doesn’t make me see hope. All I see is to have a way that has a high probability of working out but also a low probability of fAilure. And I’m afraid of that, I’m afraid to go back to the life I was, and I’m afraid to be hurt by people.

Well, firstly, I'm not a psychologist, I'm just a guy who takes cartoons way too seriously. What you're asking about is moreso life advice, which I'm fine to give, but know that it's very different from literature debate which is what my channel mainly does, so take my opinion for what it's worth.
From what I've learned, the best way to go through life is to stick to whatever morals you yourself hold. At the end of the day, it won't matter how much people like you if you can't look at yourself in the mirror. You also have to accept that bad things will happen when you uphold those morals. A Person who always believes to tell the truth will find themselves in very uncomfortable situations if they live up to that view. Accept that consequences will happen from standing for what you believe. In fact, sometimes this will hurt you either emotionally or physically.
In regards to leaving a life behind, I, for one, do my best to leave a situation only if I have no other choice. If my environment isn't right for me, I would prefer to fix the environment than find another, but I do recognize that this isn't always an option.
Finally, there's the concept of "fear of failing" which is a reoccurring topic on my channel. My philosophy is that one should not let the fear of failing stop them from trying, even if they have failed multiple times in the past. The only thing failure tells you is that sometimes you should've done something different, not that you should never have tried. There is no limit on how many times you're allowed to try. So if the only thing stopping one from doing what they should is the reason "it might not work" then they should push forward anyway. Not saying that just because one tries that means that it's going to work. Yes, you might fail and yes, if that happens it will suck, but it's not a reason to not try. (speaking generally; specific situations would change my response to that)

I really think it’s true. I’m one of those person who everyone says is wise. I’m not even 21 yet, the stuff I went through did make me a little bit smarter. I don’t have the fear of failure in other things in life, such as academic, career, and all the other stuff that’s related to that. But I am fear of failing in making friends and relationships and such. I think that’s just because of my past. I guess I should just stick to the motto of keep pushing forward and keep trying until I physically can’t.

Section 1

2: No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the Age of twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen.
3: Representatives and direct Taxes shall beapportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.2 The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of tenYears, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct. The Number of Representatives shall not exceed one for every thirty Thousand, but each State shall have at Least oneRepresentative; and until such enumerationshall be made, the State of New Hampshire shall be entitled to chuse three, Massachusetts eight, Rhode-Island and Providence Plantations one, Connecticut five, New-York six, New Jersey four, Pennsylvaniaeight, Delaware one, Maryland six, Virginia ten, North Carolina five, South Carolina five, and Georgia three.
4: When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.
5: The House of Representatives shall chusetheir Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.
Section 3
1: The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, chosen by the Legislature thereof,3 for sixYears; and each Senator shall have one Vote.
2: Immediately after they shall be assembled in Consequence of the first Election, they shall be divided as equally as may be into three Classes. The Seats of the Senators of the first Class shall be vacated at the Expiration of the second Year, of the secondClass at the Expiration of the fourth Year, and of the third Class at the Expiration of the sixth Year, so that one third may be chosen every second Year; and if Vacancies happen by Resignation, or otherwise, during the Recess of the Legislature of any State, the Executive thereof may make temporary Appointments until the next Meeting of the Legislature, which shall then fill such Vacancies.4
3: No Person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years, and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen.
4: The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided.
5: The Senate shall chuse their other Officers, and also a President pro tempore, in the Absence of the Vice President, or when he shall exercise the Office of President of the United States.
6: The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.
7: Judgment in Cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.
Section 4
1: The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.
2: The Congress shall assemble at least once in every Year, and such Meeting shall be on the first Monday in December,5 unless they shall by Law appoint a different Day.
Section 5
1: Each House shall be the Judge of the Elections, Returns and Qualifications of its own Members, and a Majority of each shall constitute a Quorum to do Business; but a smaller Number may adjourn from day to day, and may be authorized to compel the Attendance of absent Members, in such Manner, and under such Penalties as each House may provide.
2: Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with theConcurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.
3: Each House shall keep a Journal of its Proceedings, and from time to time publish the same, excepting such Parts as may in their Judgment require Secrecy; and the Yeas and Nays of the Members of either House on any question shall, at the Desire of one fifthof those Present, be entered on the Journal.
4: Neither House, during the Session of Congress, shall, without the Consent of the other, adjourn for more than three days, nor to any other Place than that in which the twoHouses shall be sitting.
Section 6
1: The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States.6 They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.
2: No Senator or Representative shall, during the Time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States, which shall have been created, or the Emolumentswhereof shall have been encreased during such time; and no Person holding any Office under the United States, shall be a Member of either House during his Continuance in Office.

Uh....I kinda have a minor nitpick about the Eddie section. Living a simple life away from people can be really fulfilling as long as you yourself are aligned with it. For me? Living alone is comfortable and helps me feel stable. However, if I were to live in Hollywood? I'd be miserable because of how overly stimulated I'd end up. For Eddie? The simple life helped him but he took it too far.

Season 4 is the best season yeah but my personal favorite episode specifically is S2E11 "Escape From LA" because Charlotte is my favorite character and with Bojacks progression in season 4 it makes me hopeful that he can somehow make amends with her, he can't just fix what he did but he can hopefully find a way to make things better

The "Stupid Piece of Shit" episode, to me, pretty much encapsulated Bojack Horseman's personality throughout the entire series.
Bojack has a moment of compassion and mercy..😥 Beatrice is blind and cant remember from day to day. He forgive her and paints her a pictiuer of happer times... He gets that her projection of her problems on him was also part of her mental issues...being a chronic alcoholic.. Bojack horseman finaly grows up.. a sad chapter in him becoming an adult...
