I actually think there is a happier way to look at it : at the start of the series every character has a toxic or at least dependent relation to bojack
      - Tod is a free loader
      - Diane writes his biography
      - Princesse Caroline is his gf / agent
By the end of it, while they don't depend on him so much, they' actually want to exchange with him : Tod brings him to the beach, PC has a very pleasant exchange with him. Only Diane cuts him off and it is clearly established why.

It is sad. I agree with you on that. But that's on Bojack. He wanted everyone else to keep him out of trouble forever and ever and that's just not something you can ask people to do. PC realized this at the end during the interviews because she realized she had become Bojack's enabler over the years. He did something stupid and she would spin it or make it disappear. She still cares but she's not going to represent him anymore. She wants him to thrive but she needs to live with herself every day and she realized she can't keep protecting him from consequences and be a good person at the same time. Same with the others. It sucks but the only one who can ultimately hold Bojack accountable is Bojack.

    • @ir6734
      @ir6734 3 роки тому +91

I wouldn't say it's sad. Yes, Diane cuts him off, but MPB stays his friend and the show ends with Bojack finally accepting him.
PC finds love in someone else, but she has already estabilished that she will not let Bojack go and she will be with him and Todd, while much more careful and wise now than at the beginning, wants to help Bojack.

I noticed that in the last episode Bojack talks with the main characters in order from most intact relationship to least.
PB- still tries to be his friend and a close one at that
Todd- is a friend but a more distanced one
PC- has respect for Bojack but ultimately doesn't want to represent/work with him any more
Diane- wants to completely cut him from her life

@@jennyzheng9561 Hmm... I'd argue that Bojack was closer to PC at the start of the show than Diane, but beside that your observation checks out.
Edit: I just realised that a theme of the show was that Bojack hurts those closest to him the most, and since Bojack wanted a closer relationship with Diane, it makes sense that she would be hurt the most.

i mean he was better, but he still had lots of toxic patterns, and him getting better doesn't unruin the lives of all the women he hurt. So the ending is happy in that he got what he deserved. His past actions caught up with him. That doesn't mean he can stop living though, as that would be the easy way out. It's a sad ending, but the right ending. It communicates that people are just the sum of their actions, and that even if your past actions were bad, and you're rightfully seen as a bad person, all you can do from here on is your best, every day. And people are going to keep hurting from what you did to them. Accepting that your past actions hurt people but that the past can't be changed is a part of becoming a better person going forward.

I thought Princess Carolyn was saying she wouldn't represent him when he's out of jail, because her own character arc had a lot to do with figuring out how she needed to balance work and life. We saw in earlier seasons how Bojack is unhealthy for her when he's in both parts, but her sticking up for him in this season shows that she wants to keep him in her life. So her decision is her way of keeping Bojack in her life, because it's either that or they just have a business relationship, and she prefers him as a friend.

So she's not going to be his manager anymore but she'll help him get set up with someone skilled and PC might check in with Bojack and that new person from time to time. But Pc has her own life with a family and she can't take time away from them to take care of Bojack forever.

Having done AA type groups, it's less than half the journey without guidance. It doesn't matter how honest you want to be, especially for someone that was raised in such a narcissistic you don't just stop being narcissistic. It seems to just be a coping mechanism and I like to imagine every time Bojack wakes up in the intro for the show he's waking up from that same dream. Note the perspective of the dream has Bojack facing the camera down the table of guests of people who has passed on in his life and the intro of the show always has Bojack waking up looking at the camera in that same perspective all while the rest of the world passes by him until he winds up in the pool at the end.

Hollyhock and Bojack never really had a lot in common and there is a huge age difference between the two. You certainly can get families with large age gaps that are close but Hollyhock never grew up with Bojack in her life and she has no obligation to stay connected with him just because they're related. She probably realised how toxic he was and felt it was better to cut ties with him for her own wellbeing, she isn't responsible for him.
She might reach out to him after he finished his sentence but that's entirely upto her and she doesn't need to do it. I'd like to think she might check up on him after some time even if it still doesn't lead to them maintaining a connection but it's completely understandable if she never wishes to see him again.

I like to think of the final lesson being "You can't run away from your past." Even if you change for the better, even if you turn your life around, the consequences of your past WILL eventually catch up with you. And the worse they are, the worse they'll effect you.
Bojack may have learned but he scarred so many people. He tried covering up his past and his worst deeds but eventually, they were revealed. And once they were seen he was effected as badly as the rest of the people he hurt were.
And I think that's fair. There are people who are sad because we've seen Bojack in a positive light and we WANTED him to get better... but we also saw how his actions hurt so many people like Gina, Pete, Pemmy and Sarah Linn. And maybe he will never truly move on UNTIL he is properly punished for it.
It's not enough to keep apologizing over and over again. At some point you MUST take responsibility for your actions. And in a weird way, that's what this final season was about. Bojack finally taking control and responsibility of his actions.

don't you think diane was the only one who cared that bojack almost drowned? i get that everyone else tried to stay strong for him to not remind him of that ordeal and/or just wanted to live in the moment of princess carolyn's happily ever after but diane is the only one who mentions that incident, bojack's inner circle and everyone else were not even the slightliest supportive about his fragile state of mind, sad dog happened to bojack for real and for worse
what would hollyhock, bojack's students, gina, kelsey, penny and charlotte think about it?

Nobody but Diane knows it was Bojack trying to end things because Bojack specifically told her. To everyone else, it just looks like Bojack had a relapse and wound up almost dead. Considering the Bojeebies kid is the victim, no one would even think to ask about Bojack's mental state.

eric tatemura It’s actually extremely gross that the show overlooked bojack being pushed to the point of suicide. That everyone who made his life a living hell didn’t even care after a week which is reality or even attempt to hear him out. In fact Diane even chastises him for him saying since she didn’t answer he’s going to kill himself, I just imagine being in that state he was in, and how she didn’t answer his call like everyone else didn’t it was the end for him, she was the last person that kept him alive and not hearing her respond made him give up, instead she gets mad at him for him having that power over her that she felt responsible. How about instead Diane you get over yourself and realize your friend wanted to kill himself after the whole world turned his back on him, including you. Making someone promise they’ll be okay despite knowing the kind of person he was like she had any right to that promise being true, that was a shitty promise no one should be asked to say. Does she need to be back in his life? No but her words on the rooftop really do anger me, not once did she or anyone else ever think what it would be like to be in that situation, deserved or not, especially after seeing him try to be better and have it all taken away, I don’t care who you are I think most people would’ve went for a swim that night, had nothing to do with you Diane, you just happened to be the last person he believed would be there for him and you weren’t, that hurts when you are hoping someone will save you but doesn’t.
Was it right for bojack to call her and make her feel that way? Of course not, but for the show to overlook his suicide attempt was kind of bullshit, not to mention the way he was saved was really lame as well.
I always envisioned this show would end with Bojack attempting suicide and Hollyhock saving him, all this happens, but she teaches him who gives a shit what random people think that because he ended up being good to the people around him towards the end of season 6 part 1 that people learn not to just trust the media or the mob mentality, and that they’ll forget in five minutes, showing how stupid Hollywood and the media are. That he doesn’t have to keep dancing for people anymore, instead of worrying about what other people think worry about the ones around you that you care about as at the end of the day they are the only ones who really matter.
I love the part with Todd and PC in the final episode but I will always hate Diane and Mr. PBs endings. Most importantly I will always hate the ending Bojack himself got, to me the real ending for this character will be season 4, him doing something selfless for hollyhock that wouldn’t benefit him in anyway was the true beautiful moment for the character. The rest just seems like a reboot with people using the show to tell a message that wasn’t their from the start, is it bad? No, in fact 5-6 have amazing moments but it was just rushed at the end of the day.

    • @vaultshadow

@@joro8693 that is a good resolution, but i meant in a personal level, after rehab, bojack stopped caring about rising on top and humbled himself to accept the life he could have, the wrecking ball smashes what he built and he is now afraid that no matter how much he tries to build himself up, it will tear apart again
and i cared more that bojack's inner circle care about his well being because he needs it more, everyone else got fine without him

    • @joro8693
      @joro8693 3 роки тому +1

eric tatemura see that’s what I thought the damn bojack balloon was about, how you can blow yourself up to be this big amazing person but no matter what all it takes is one mistake for your reputation to go away and for it to pop.
Life is a never ending show and all that, I thought the show was going to end with Bojack just getting over his hate from people who don’t know him and focuses on being good to his inner circle, but they are all gone now and the ending just showed the worst about hollywoo with no one even caring about bojack despite hating him not too long ago and even has bojack wanting to go back to acting because of it, showing he hasn’t learned a damn thing about getting away from hollywoo.
I also have to say, “sometimes life sucks and you keep living” is a horrible meaning to a show and really just shows look I know life sucks but all we can do is live in it and turn ourselves around whenever bad things happen. Over and over and over and over again. Even though bojack did exactly that only for every good thing to be ripped away from him turning him into that person everyone wanted him to be without even giving a proper resolution like with hollyhock, the letter was lazy writing and hollyhock deserved a much better ending.
In the final episode he even says he’s afraid to leave prison because he’d rather stay then deal with the outside world. How sad is that?
I mean he should be afraid, he did his best to move away from all of it and it ruined every relationship he had. He doesn’t even have an inner circle anymore, outside of Mr PB. There’s also PC who now has a husband and kid where he was invited to a fake wedding (that was kinda shitty of her) where everyone pretty much said goodbye to him and he goes back to prison knowing he’s never going to see Diane again because of his own actions of trying to kill himself and how he should feel bad about that, I hated the scenes between Diane and bojack in seasons 5 and 6, she had a good individual ending but her ending with bojack was bullshit. There is so much stuff he never dealt with. Still blows my mind how some people see this as a good ending for the character, imagine going to a wedding where you are excited to see the people you care about only to learn that you will barely ever see them again and how they are much better without you after seeing them after your lowest point. By the way he has no money, a horrible shot at getting any job, especially if he wants to teach. He even says he’s afraid to leave prison, that’s how low his life is, he’s afraid of dealing with the outside world and I honestly can’t blame him. Especially finding out that after the outrage that ruined his life no one even remembers or cares anymore.
Ugh the ending to this show makes me sick to my stomach at times over how depressing his ending was. I love dianes ending of getting over herself and just being a writer, but I hated how their “friendship” ended. “You promised me you’d be fine”, go fuck yourself diane and anyone else who ever thinks they can ask someone to just be okay over a promise despite all that happened and using it as ammo to make them feel shitty. Ugh fuck that last episode. Would’ve actually been more powerful if it ended at 11 and 12 was a fake out where it’s just all black. People say killing himself would’ve been “too dark” but anyone who says that really did not pay attention to the ending and what it meant for the future of all the characters.

This show gut punched me so bad. Aside from my own mistakes not involving anyone, it really made me face the hardship of letting go of people. Letting go of my ex for example. It’s hard to think that some of your last moments with a person are truly the last moments. That you two can and will probably go on living your lives with everything you’ve done together being a distant memory. A story you briefly tell someone of your future (like kids or grandkids).
A part of you even wishes you could meet them again as you are now but as the show mentioned through Diane, you wouldn’t be who you are without them.
I think being conscious creatures is our big double edged sword. On the one hand it allows us to engage in acts outside of immediate instinct and resonate with the meaning in things (albeit subjective and not necessarily determined) but also it forces most of us to come to terms with the harsh reality that despite all of this, people will come and go. Experiences come and go. Living life is learning not just to cherish the experience, but also to let it go.
It’s hard when you sit at night, smoking your blunt, and reminiscing over those key good times. It’s hard knowing that your past fear of those grand times ending are now the present realization. It’s now your job to find solace and meaning and meaning in what’s at you present doorstep n
