I did the future authorship program, 6 months later I had done everything on my plan an over doubled my already very good salary an started my own business and was working for myself which was all in my plan, after it I said I need to meet Dr Peterson shake his hand and tell him thank you, and I did exactly that in Manchester last year when I went to see him speak, I bought the meet and greet tickets I was front row no more then 2 meters from JBP almost the whole show, after it I got to say thanks and shake his hand, just like I visualised it, this man helped me improve my already good life, it is nearly 2 years since I did the future authorship and I have never had it better, I now need to redo the plan because I need new bigger goals

The idea that people already know what they need through their conscience but don't know how to get there, and telling them step by step how to get there won't help (generic self-help), and only by prompting them to *write* out what they need for themselves can the path become apprehended before them...that is one of his most profound understandings.

I decided to start with Present Authoring: Virtues, but by the time I finished selecting traits I found I couldn’t write about how my life has been improved by them. Because all I could see was the Fault aspects of the traits, and how they had made my life worse. (And I hadn’t even completed the Faults part of the program yet.)
So, frustrated, and figuring that I was doing something wrong, I searched Jordan talking about the program on youtube. It’d been a while since I’d heard him speak about it, and I had decided to start the program on a whim years after purchasing it.
And like magic, the first video I watch solves my problem within the first 30 seconds lol Thank you Mr. Peterson.
I have to go in with the mindset that I’m someone worthy of respect and care. Part of me is kicking and spitting and cussing like a cat at vet’s office at the /thought/ of doing that. But what happens if you don’t take a ill cat to a vet? And what has become of me and my life as a result of not taking care of myself?
Suddenly I’m not fighting this exercise anymore.
Edit: Just because the cat’s been sedated, doesn’t mean the issues are gone. Now it’s time to get to work.

    I’m 27(male).
I decided to buy the program on a whim, because I wanted to work on myself through writing.
Everything started off great until I started to detail my past experiences.
I went from feeling normal to breaking out crying unexpectedly as I started to type more.
I wasn’t expecting that reaction from me, but once I stopped crying I felt a lot better.

Jordan Peterson said you may feel more emotional within the first couple of weeks during/after writing the past authoring program because you are writing very specifically about past events that played important positive and negative experiences in your life. Some of those experiences can be unbelievably daunting and scary because you may have had some exciting and/or traumatizing events happen in your life (which can cause emotions to be volatile). Peterson said later on though that people eventually feel way better after completing the program. The reason is that it makes people feel more grounded and stronger because they voluntarily confronted their past by typing it out. They may realize that some experiences were not as scary or a big deal as they originally thought in their heads (which is what happened with me). He says this quote a lot which I think is relevant to your questions and the self authoring program in general, "When people confront what they're scared of, it's not that they become less afraid, they become braver. And becoming braver is way different and better than being less afraid."

I embarked on the self authoring program approx 3 years ago, with other commitments and duties, it’s taken me years to get to the present authoring chapter. The faults section has seriously disturbed my psych. How could I have been so ignorant, is the main trail of thought combined with a deep feeling of shame. I have not reached the past authoring chapter, I deliberately chose to leave it to last as I wanted to focus on improving the trajectory of the present and future. It’s a challenging process but transformational. I now feel a deep understanding and compassion towards why humans don’t want to change. Breaking the mold is a lofty aim. Facing external obstacles and solving life problems seems like a minor task compared to having to face yourself at the greatest depth!

In another lecture he described women's mostly being agreeable.
I expounded that many agreeable people by excepting so much end up on the treadmill of the historical male work profile. Whereby many seem to end up chasing their own tail in to the oblivion of past historical mistakes, such as the monarch type control of the elites or the vacuum of personal choices & freedoms of the Chinese Communist model. Men though it took millenia and millions of lives, even those lost in our revolution to be less agreeable enough to fight for the freedoms many formerly oppressed now enjoy. Thus the purpose for men in advancing societal progress through a Christian model of moral & ethics, even though it produced the greatest outcome of humanity's existence is being thwarted by the agreeable hordes willing to kiss up to any length dispite moral or detriment to others or society even humanity in general for a pavlovian dog's reward for now sacrificing the future of human kind and potentially the planet itself

I can't answer your question but I can tell you that "Writing" is the main component of most of Dr Peterson's programs. He firmly believes that "writing is thinking" and even though I have not done the Self Authoring program I did start using a form of guided journaling, idea and thought capturing about six months ago as I began working with "Personal Knowledge Management" software.
I can highly recommend it and my advice would be to get your husband to start writing, just five minutes a day in a physical diary, a simple text file or a program like Obsidian.

You won’t ever have any idea what you want to do or become if you don’t step outside of your boundaries. Sounds obvious enough. But the only way to know and find what you want to do and where to go in life, is to put yourself out there and try to do many different things, take risks, learn from others, delay instant gratifications, and most importantly; the ability to sacrifice. There’s no other way. Trust me.

The program works you through exercises that will help you determine that so for example, you already know what the worst parts about your personality are, maybe you procrastinate or have an alcohol problem, so imagine what your life might look like if you allowed those vices to consume you. You would quickly become deeply depressed and dissatisfied with your life, now imagine what your life might look like if you overcame those issues. If you beat procrastination you would have less stress and more open schedule time and perhaps money, if you beat an alcohol problem you would feel better and who knows how many other benefits. Now, this is a small example, but many exercises like that allow you to piece together a sort of goal in concrete terms for how your life could be good, or at least better. Once you have the goal all you have to do is draw serious actions between your current objective and the goal and execute, which may seem difficult, but after having a worthy ideal, the motivation and discipline to pursue will come easier to you.

    • @trina8350
      @trina8350 4 роки тому +2

Oliv Trees I think that is the point of the exercise. It helps you bring to the front what you have in the back of your mind waiting. It also helps you brain storm and think bigger about possiblities. Doing nothing is worse than trying something!

i realy like peterson but i have a little doubt about how efficient the program could be in totalitarian countries. it may work for a working class member in the west where you can choose your work (if you have the credentials) but how is it supposed to work for example in north korea ? (an extreme example i know) or a woman in saudi arabia. or let's say i want to become a model but i am short and bald or an olympic athlete ? thing is: not everyone in the world can become everything, and even if they could, there is HUGE competition. so you have to 1. be genetically gifted enough, so you can even meet the basic criteria of that profession and 2. be better than the competition, who want the same thing. on top of the pyramid, there is only enough space for one king, and i don't want to be a servant. in the end, everything is a competition and the winner will take it all, even if he is morally corrupted. life is war.

The path your on is no where near over it's actually just about as long as your past if you do it right, personally I've survived cancer opiate addiction several comas from reckless irresponsible behaviour but today at 40 I'm the best physical shape I've ever been (even better then when I was professional athlete) not trying brag but if you regulate your physical state your hormone levels (on my case thru diet and exercise 5.11 Ng/mL currently so don't need trt at least yet). If you free yourself from your own limitations the opportunities are limitless. Learn about hypergamy so that your relationships with women become based of facts and circumstances not random Disney fantasies(maybe you already do and have a good social life). I'm simply point out the fact that there is so much information now available for everything external why not spend some time learning about your past your present and plan your future willfully? I'll give you a self authoring suite personally of the money man, don't spend another second thinking about improving your life and the lives of people around you worst case you'll spend some time on a program you dont like best case you stop being controlled by your past and your willful ignorance of why you do what you do and learn about yourself and adopt the skills to change what ever is wrong in your life mate

It is not only about what you want or wish for, you also have to be realistic and describe what you need, and sometimes what we need isn't fun or exciting.

I have similar sentiments as female but I have kids and little babies that need my help. I still think about death but I have responsibilities to them and I've read that kids have hard time forgiving the parent that did the suicide. Also being married to someone that is emotionally* dead, blase, indifferent unless it involves his parents or siblings or friends* is depressing. Life gets over whelming. I don't see purpose after raising them. I'd be useless and not needed one their able. I don't have career mindset and I'm older. So keeping busy with trying new receipes, trying make new friends, avoiding home life to get a break and break free from being married, unhappy, loveless marriage all for sake of raising kids. I chose this path and I'm on it. It's hard. Af. Covid and isolation was OK for little while then I tried finding new parks like adrug. Any way ihope you find ur path. I'm older than you and I feel this way. I felt it when I was younger but I too don't have wishes. I wish I didn't feel so much pain or emotions since I was a kid. I wish I wasn't sensitive and empathetic to the world. I wish I was lot things. But as Peterson said about women. I only wanted a family, kids and lover and good home. I got half. Was it worth it? Choose wisely when your young. Options to opt out are bleak. Get out when your young and able.

Your brain knows this program is a really good idea. But sometimes things that are good, are hard. And our brains can repel such ideas, because remaining as we are, is easier. It’s hard to grow. But we should Always try, and strive to improve ourselves. We can’t improve ourselves and our lives if we don’t try. Even if we end up not succeeding, we can try.
