You may be asking yourself, what are PRELOADERS?
PRELOADERS:
Subscribers to this channel who are dedicated to being proficient in slow speed motorcycle operation.
What does PRELOAD mean?
PRELOAD:
Engaging the throttle to raise the RPM’s (revolutions per minute) above idle and holding the throttle there, with the clutch pulled in (no power to the rear wheel, “in reserve” “PRELOADED”). This process will make power to the rear wheel available to the rider immediately when the clutch is opened up. There’s no need for the rider to be concerned with twisting the throttle for power because it’s already PRELOADED.

Hadn't rode for 10 years and that was a crotch rocket. When I purchased my 2020 SGS last year, I told my wife exactly that. I told her it was a much heavier bike and to let me get more comfortable with it before I put her on it!! No shame in my game.
Exactly!! Damn shame! You’re job is to take care of your Queen and that’s exactly what you did!👍🏾
I'm in the exact same boat. Sports bikes prior with 10 years off the bike.
I know, the getting used to my 1800 vtx, that's what I had to tell people, just going to have to wait
Did the exact same talk with my queen. Better safe than sorry.
@jsmooth7048 same exact situation here. Had a zx6r and hadn't rode in about 10 years. Jumped out there and bought a Road Glide Special recently. Love it but definitely way heavier and still getting used to it. Stay safe out there!
I'm late to the game, but I'm glad to be here now. Fantastic Video Robert! I sent this to my girl while I'm on the clock. She is brand new to bikes and riding & riding two up and she loves it. I just recently made the transition from Super Sport to RGS bagger. I was the boss on my Super Sport and felt comfortable, confident, in control and consistent. When she showed an interest and the excitement of going on a ride I was happy to share my passion with her. So we started off nice and easy around our block and a near by parking lot with her on the back. Till she and I both got a feel and clear communication. Now with the bagger she is sooo ready to ride, but I had to drag the brake till I've had more practice time in the saddle. So this video and your content was found at the perfect time. Keep paying it forward Brother. Each one teach one. To bad we're in So. Cal and so far out to get some practice in with Y'all.
Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed to my UA-cam channel!👍🏾😊 ua-cam.com/users/BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle I’m happy that my channel has been helpful to you! That makes all the time and effort that I put into this so worthwhile!
I was just in SoCal last month for two practice sessions. Check out Practice Sessions #98 & #99.
First of all thank you for your service in Law Enforcement!!!!! Secondly, this is some awesome information and content. Been riding a while, but never really thought about the preload of the throttle!!!! Thank you for all that you do to help us every day citizens become better motorcyclists!!!!

Thanks for the videos, 10 years ago I lost my left leg in a motorcycle wreck that was unavoidable with a car passing another car on a hill and zero room for me to maneuver without going off a embankment. That much said I have difficulty holding the left side when I’m 2 up but I’m smooth enough with the right foot to raise at the same time as my left when the bike moves. And refuse to go 2 up on windy days that could put the wind blowing me to the left. In time I’m sure I can strengthen the left leg enough to easily hold 2 up against the wind. Before the accident I rode 20 years no incidents but now realize I was only skilled at curves and straight roads, not slow speed and u turns. Your videos are a great help on areas I need to work on.

Kudos to you for knowing your limits and for employing common sense when riding two up. And I’m also sorry for the loss of your leg. Good luck to you and I hope your skills improve to match your concern for the safety of your passenger.
I have searched for this video for some time. Been riding about 9 years, and just upgraded from a 2003 Vstar Classic 1100 to a 2013 Street Glide. I'm in LOVE. I also wanted to start getting my wife out on rides, but I'm the type of guy that likes to research everything. But now this video has certainly helped add some comfort to this process. My wife eventually will be riding her own bike, but in the meantime I want to get her some wind therapy, too! Thanks for all the videos, Robert. You're a huge asset to all of us riders that look to UA-cam for advice! Cheers from Canada!

This was the very first video I ever seen from you and I must say the comment before exercise 8 to your queen sold me. You definitely bring the positive vibe and laughs , keep them coming please lol
Thank you very much! Thank you for watching and subscribing to my UA-cam channel!👍🏾😁 Thank you very much for further supporting my channel by becoming a V.I.Preloader! It’s really appreciated!
I finally took my wife for a ride today about 40 miles in town and interstate too... after almost 2 yrs of building up my confidence and skills . It went better then I actually thought. The main thing i told her is don't fidget and move around at slow speeds and in slow turns to throw me off balance . And it went well... super glad, and my wife loved it too. Still have lot to learn and riding 2 up is definitely whole another ball game but thank you for your teachings ...

Thank you very much Cedric! Nothing changes!👍🏾
I love going back to the pre-TAB days. What you said back then still applies!
I play the " what if " game all the time in life. Comes from being a corrections officer. Best game to play, I think. Absolutely love your content, Robert! Just stumbled on it a couple of days ago. You have given me so much to work on! Been riding for 20 years and now I feel like an ametur, lol. I thought I was a 5ish nowbi feel im a 2 lol. So I'm getting my butt in gear and going to the parking g lot and work on being a preloader, bro. Shout outbto all our thin blue and silver line people Thank you.

yeah, I just stumbled across this channel, been riding for 5 decades, and am still picking up pointers, but moreso he puts into language things I've been doing forever, but wouldn't have really been able to explain... at least not as he can..
Great session LT, my wife watched the entire video with me 😊. She said should would of liked to see how Anita gets on and off the bike though. Keep up the good work 👏🏻✌🏻
Thank you very much brother!
Great vid! I haven't ridden by myself or with my wife in 13 years. I just picked up an Ultra Limited. My wife was disappointed when i told her i needed time with the bike before she got on it. She understood. My confidence is up after practice and riding. Great idea to run thru the practice with her in a parking lot first.

I'm so glad I found your videos. I'm taking my class to get my motorcycle license and was really nervous. Now after watching a good amount of your videos I'm feeling a bit more confident. Thank you so much.

Thanks to you and your Queen for this. Rode through my 20s and 30s, didn't at all while raising our boys up.. Now that they're grown I wanted a bike back in my life. I restred an 82 Goldwing the last couple of years and have been riding a bit. I was going to talk my wife into a ride, but after watching this I realize I'm basically a newbie again and need to rebuild my skills and confidence before taking my Queen for a ride. Thank you.

It’s my pleasure. 😊 Be careful out there!
I watch all of your videos, but for the very first time today I watched this video with earbuds on. Wow, what a difference the earbuds made! At 64, I think most of us have some level of hearing loss and with the earbuds on it really came through loud and clear what preload and keep it loaded means. I clearly heard each and every RPM from your bike on each and every exercise. I truly don’t see how you find all the time to teach all the classes, edited the videos and transcribe the audio but all I can do is say thank you!!!

I learned a lot from this video especially ensuring the passenger understands what they need to do. Most importantly what you as the operator has to keep in mind all the time. Excellent video.

First time viewer here to your channel. The weather in Louisville 'The Derby' Kentucky is gradually getting warmer and soon the motorcycle riding season will be in full swing. I've been riding since 1981 and found your videos to be extremely helpful and informative as well as entertaining. You and your lovely bride make a great team! It's always helpful to get 'refresher training' per se after several months of non-riding during the winter months. Congratulations to you both on a job 'Well Done' and continue making the outstanding videos, they are much appreciated.

Great Video Thanks. I have been riding motorcycles for over 45 years now I got a ultra limited back in 2019 a real game changer for me I had to watch you and other people on here mostly motor cops to understand what I was doing wrong. My biggest problem was dropping the bike with my wife on the back when I came to a stop because I did not understand about staying off the front brake and keeping the bike straight I had a lot of bad habitats to overcome. My 1986 Harley Softail which I have rode since 1990 is like riding a dirt bike compared to what I have now.

Hey what's up my man? I've been away for quite some time for reasons that I wouldn't talk about ☺️, fortunately things are almost back to normal as it should.
back to your lessons Robert I'm really learning a lot & appreciate what you are doing, all the time you spend making people learning & be the bosses of them motorcycles is something huge & you should be awarded for it.
Thanks once again & again bro.
Cheers 😘
It’s my pleasure brother!
I love the fact that you go into detail like I do when I explain things. 😅 My lady hates me for it but that's how we are bro. But yes, I have implemented your rules and teachings when I finally put her behind me on the bike. And yes like you mentioned she remembered more than I did 😅 but she does her part and does her responsibilities and we love going out for weekend cruises and never forget the teachings 👍

Wonderful and useful video. After watching this I went to a parking lot and practiced for one hour the left foot down and right foot on rear brake. I can't believe I did not learn this before. I've been putting both feet down and then accelerating from the stop. So lesson one and the slow turns were good to do. Getting better! Thank you!!

Awesome lecture, Rob... Just a reminder note from me to your crew, et al..... The Physio- Psychological reason for the passenger "looking" in the same direction that you are when doing these maneuvers, is so they don't get dizzy and throw the bike off balance..... If the passenger is off balance, aka motion sickness, you will have issues..... Stay Safe

Hi Robert! I just subscribed to your channel. Used to ride 25 years ago, before kids lol....just got "gifted" another motorcycle. I used to have a Honda Silverwing 650, which I was quite competent on, however, new bike is a 2000 Yamaha Road Star 1600. HUGE difference! So I'm watching vids and practicing when I can. I've taken it out on a couple short rides, even in town, and was ok, if a little wobbly/wide in my turns! A lot heavier bike than I had, but my last ride to town, my turns were better and my confidence was a bit higher. I have a small parking lot near me I'm going to ask permission to use to practice my slow maneuvers. Thanks for the great videos, I'll keep watching!

Robert Great video once again. I started to ride with a Military MC and as we entered the main Marine Corps Birthday venue we were doing exercise number two. Many of the brothers were duck walking the entire time. As a new guy I didn't touch the ground at walking speed through thousands of folks some darting to cross in front for a distance of over 1/4 mile. My u-turns were tight at around 19 feet and impeccable. I didn't have Mary on yet, but more practice and i feel comfortable enough that I will trust my slow sleep operation 100% no Duck Walk with her, no problem. Thank you for a new life in safe, quality cycling. Amen and thank you and Anita and my Classmates for a memorable and life enhancing experience.
Thanks Erik!! It’s my pleasure. That is awesome!!
Very good info. You definitely have experiance. I have told new touring riders it is about 3 years of experience riding and practicing before you are comfortable "riding" your touring model. Anyone can do 70mls/hr down the road but try 5mls/hr in a parking lot or secondary road. Good stuff!

Riding two up is the highest responsibility a rider can have.
Sometimes I have a problem getting my Queen to understand this. I do everything in my power to know my bike and be safe. Before I’d even take her anywhere I made sure she was fully equipped with full gear.
Anyway.. there are some basic things the passenger needs to do as well. It’s a team effort to come back home safe.
It’s my responsibility to be the boss of my motorcycle and to educate my missus on how to ride safely in the back.
She always wants to start adjusting herself when we are creeping to a stop or lean over to talk to me when we are under 10mph.
Preloading pulling to a stop saved me from
A dump in one of those situations. She leaned way to the side when we were prolly at 5mph and if I didn’t have some power on tap and pulled against the rear brake .. we woulda gone over.
Ppl should NEVER taking having a passenger lightly. They have NO control over what’s going on (well except for passenger responsibilities)

25:34 (Just adding this as a bookmark for myself.) This is what I'm working on and I was doing the exercise with handlebars all the way turned and locked before moving which I believe added to my sense of the drama that ensued. It's one thing to keep it loaded....it's another thing to find yourself barely hanging on to the bike with your throttle hand as the bike announces your failure with a throaty roar while it tries to nosedive because it caught you eyeballing your cones. (BTW, I don't yet practise 2 up, and won't until things become less dramatic.) I think I might owe you some 4 count pushups as well.
Awesome and responsible!!👍🏾 Preload!!! And Keep It Loaded!!!!
Hello Mr Simmons, I love your extra work in enjoying your motorcycle. It is a pleasure to watch your extra lessons.

When you said you're going to call us operators now it made me think first of a doctor and these are surgical maneuvers on wheels and secondly for the Mrs., Dr. Boss? 🤔 Next shirt idea? Thank you again Robert (and Anita of course) for providing us with great content once again! I often get passengers that want to counter when going into a turn because the lean is uncomfortable even after giving instructions on the bike turns by leaning. Instinctively they want to lean the opposite way the bike is leaning in a turn. Hopefully this video will help...I know it will help! Appreciate all you do!
Thanks Tom! It’s my pleasure. 😊
My wife and I had talked about the possibility of her riding on the back of my Harley, and i told her I’m not even going to attempt it until i master slow speed maneuvering on that bike! Thanks brother!
I love a responsible Preloader! That’s precious cargo!!
@@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle yes sir!
I commute to work on my bike (K1600 GA) everyday (weather permitting). I also practice solo pretty much every weekend at the local parking lot. But before my wife and I go on a motorcycle trip (2-up), we go to the park and practice 2-up. There is a difference in handling, especially braking distance.
Excellent!!
Thanks for the information, Mr. Simmons. We bought our Ultra Limited so we could ride together. We’ve gone out a few times and it was great but I know I want to practice more.

Coming up to the 35 years of riding and started with a 50cc Honda and moved my way up spent 10 years farming riding trail bikes often hard and at that point I was probably the best rider iv ever been..now I'm older iv got a big Harley street Bob and it's heavy, before I put my wife on I got a new twin seat the big one and a sissy bar .Iv got these parts and fitted them but due to not riding as much as I used to I want toget my confidence up .who is going to do the cooking if we both get hurt, its been 20 years since I lived on a bike and riding to work in the summer does not5 maintain my skill level to two were it once was ..I think I need some time in the park with the dog chasing and barking at slow speeds. My bike is my pride and joy and the 1 machine I keep mint .

Hi Robert from Australia. After riding a Royal Enfield most of my life, I finally bought my dream bike- an Indian chieftain. Was very much intimidated by the weight of the bike, But by using your preloaded method, have gained a lot of confidence and control especially during turns. Still at level ZERO though. Thanks for your videos!

Great stuff as always. I have to work this weekend but can’t wait to watch it the wife. I practice with her. What about emergency braking. What is her role?
Thank you. Her role is just to hold on during emergency braking. Not much she can do. The braking will bring her closer to you so she should stay close until it’s over.
Getting ready to buy a Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager 1700. Definitely going to have the better half sit down and watch this vid with me. We both have a lot to learn when it comes to riding two up. As always, appreciate your very informative and educational videos.
