I learned this technique from one of your older videos. It helped me out tremendously.
After 10 years of stoping with my front brake it took me several months to learn the proper braking technique. It took a lot of patience and relearning but if I did it, anybody can. Practice is everything, trust and believe 😊
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing that.
Definitely allowed me to be more comfortable coming to a stop for sure
You really helped me with this! I liked it better than your earlier stopping video. We need more people like you, who can speak coherently and clearly, who edit their videos and put out a quality product. Thanks.

Traded up for a 2023 road glide limited from a wide glide. Found the extra weight showed my deficiencies in coming to a smooth stop. This video and many others you have has made coming to a stop not such a dreadful experience!! Thank you sir.

Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu LTeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I have used this technique you have suggested when pulling into a parking space when it did not feel right to me. This also works out good when you do a slow ride up to a red light {as long as no one is behind you } hoping it will turn green, but doesn't before you get there. Believe you me. Sure makes good sense when maneuvering 800 lbs of motor. It's better than risking a tip over. You are so very well appreciated by passing on your knowledge to each and every one of us. 😊 Trust and Believe! Preload and keep it Loaded! It never fails!

Robert, thank you for everything you do on this topic. I agree seat time does not equal practice time, as I do NOT practice soleley to proactice. I did NOT "Trust and Beleive" the other day as I was coming back from gassing up the HD for winter storage (Milwaukee area) and I "practice" more on the roadway in lovely Milwuakke traffic, however not the right practice. Comng up my driveway and then a fairly sharp turn into by barn, and I paniced and forgot my training....I jamed the front brake and almost hit the barn and my frontend loader bucket. Instead of keeping it loaded and using the friction zone and brake to turn the handlebars more. I knew better and did not follow through. My wife even heard me yelling at myself!
For anyone reading this and new to slow speed riding...THIS STUFF WORKS AND ALMOST EVERY SINGLE DAY I AM PUT IN THE SITUATION WHERE WHAT ROBERT IS TEACHING...WORKS!!!
Thanks for sharing brother! As long as you recognize what happened, you’re better for it. Preload!!! And Keep It Loaded!!!! ©

Being in friction zone and applying the rear break right before you come to a complete stop has really helped me Rob. Your a great instructor and I want to come down to Georgia to do your practice session soon.

C’mon down!👍🏾
Gliding to a stop then going into the friction zone to keep the bike up (by providing power to the rear) seems counterintuitive. Being in the friction zone requires “loading”,
Along with the slow dance with the clutch. Right? What helped me is how it sounds to make a smooth stop! The bike “sings” to a stop. The song is called “smooth stop for Robert” 🤣. Thank you for this great video Rob.
It’s my pleasure. 😊
2 years now of riding daily, totally understand this concept NOW. Sharp corner pull in the clutch and let it roll into the turn. As your coming out of the turn. Slowly release the clutch. I can finally ride it upright under 5 mph using the clutch. Slightly higher than idle rpm, FEEL the clutch. Forks should never dip drastically when stopping.
That’s right brother! Good for you! Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed to my UA-cam channel!👍🏾😊 ua-cam.com/users/BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle
I picked up this tip a couple of months ago watching your videos. The firstt time I implemented it, it worked like a dream, the smoothest gradual stop ever on the bike. I started laughing out loud at the stop light. Holy crap, it works! Thank you for your grest advice and all your dedicated work.
Nice work! It’s my pleasure. 😊

You are succinct in all your teachings and use precise words in the correct order from beginning to finish.

Thank you for the videos and advice. I used to ride a smaller motorcycle than in July of 23 went to a 2015 road glide custom. It is very different. Unfortunately on October 7th I was involved in a hit and run and the guy hit me with his car and left me in the road. Dislocated my left shoulder. Pulled my right mcl and tore my right acl. Luckily I was by myself. We will get another motorcycle this year. I say this not for sympathy but because after that accident I found your videos. Since watching them I have more confidence with the bagger now. Of course I am nervous excited. I am nervous because the last time I was on a motorcycle I got hit. I am excited because the last time I was on a motorcycle I got hit. I won't let this experience stop the wife's and I love for riding. So again thank for for the help especially with the back brake and to stop putting down both feet. I always used the preload but I use to much front brake. And I see that I must sit straight up. Again what you are doing is amazing. Keep it up.

I’m sorry to hear about your accident and I’m glad you’re ok. I’m also glad you’re not giving up. Just take it slow. Practice starting with my warm-up exercise. Get extremely comfortable with that before you move on. 👍🏾
I took your class and have watched your videos. Safe, controlled stops is one of the great things I learned from you. My stops were a bit abrupt before. Great thing is every time I am out on the road and coming in to a stop, I can practice.,
Absolutely brother! What a great feeling it is when it all starts to come together.

This is the video I needed. I have a 21 RK that I've ridden for over a year now and I don't usually have trouble stopping by myself at this point but with a passenger.. it still gets sketchy. I turn into that wobbly rolling coin and it feels like it's trying to fall over before I get stopped. My passenger has mitigated most of it by simply leaning forward when coming to a stop helping to restore balance. Still, I've been trying to figure out how to fix the problem myself instead of having my passenger fix it. Thank you for this one!

@@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle did. Inerestingly stoping from higher speed was never a problem, because I use both brakes and I am in a momentum, but stoping when riding really slow was like a gamble. Thank you, Robert. Another great video which I practice regularly.
My heart rate still goes up because I second guess which gear I should be in.
When I go to the friction zone for a stop, should I be in second gear or first gear?
It’s my pleasure. 😊 Thank you very much!
You should be in 1st gear. Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed to my UA-cam channel!👍🏾😊 ua-cam.com/users/BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle
As always great information
Thank you very much!
Perfect timing! I was looking for just this. My 250's friction zone doesnt get me to the end of the stop. Is it ok to apply throttle again or am I stopping too soon? When I close throttle, my bike loses a lot of speed instantly (like both brakes were applied) and I apply back brake only to let cars know I'm braking. Thank you.
Thank you for your videos. This is my biggest fear as I'm a new rider. While you're getting into the friction zone while stopping are you applying any throttle or just the idle RPM for stability?
It’s my pleasure. 😊 Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed to my UA-cam channel!👍🏾😊 ua-cam.com/users/BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle
Yes. Preload the throttle.
Good video thanks. I’m a bit confused by your comment “power to the rear wheel, when you are in the friction zone”. If there is zero throttle, you won’t send any power to the rear by staying in the friction zone. Or are you saying that idle throttle provides the power in the friction zone but only at crawling speed? If this is what you mean, then a small bike may not perform the same way using idle torque and the clutch this way.
Can you help clarify what you mean?
Thank you very much! It’s my pleasure. 😊 Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed to my UA-cam channel!👍🏾😊 ua-cam.com/users/BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle

Instead of just RIDING the bike to a less than controlled stop, DRIVE the bike to a fully controlled stop. Make it stop when and where you want it to.
If you are a preloader will it cost anything to join your session in another location?
I think you’re inquiring about a V.I.Preloader. V.I.Preloaders practice with me for free in Pooler, GA only.
❤❤❤❤❤
Robert, should i be pre-loaded all the way until my feet hits the ground and the stop is complete?
Perhaps. Again, it’s really a “feel thing”.👍🏾 Thank you very much for further supporting my channel by becoming a V.I.Preloader! It’s really appreciated!
Is the throttle just at idle ? I have tried this all summer with some success but mostly I am gaining speed ! Like you said now a small amount of friction so can you confirm idle not preload as normal ? My rear brake is definitely not wining the battle
No the throttle needs to be loaded to be in the friction zone. Not a lot- just enough!! Honestly that’s the weird part to me. To load (if you’re rolling) to get into the friction zone to stop smoothly. 🤦🏼♀️
The throttle should be loaded. Remember the load is to keep the bike from stalling. The clutch is what determines how much power goes to the rear wheel. You’re in the friction zone too much if you’re going to fast.
By the way, what kind of motorcycle are you riding?
@@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle so I must have too much clutch when I am gaining speed and not stopping I’ll keep practicing 😃
