There is an amazing live video of Home Free singing How Great Thou Art. It's called "Home Free Kearny". A concert was called off due to a thunderstorm and a lot of the audience had taken shelter from it. Rather than disappoint them, Home Free walked through the rain and stood on a picnic table. Without benefit of mics, speakers or any other gear, accompanied by thunder, wind and flickering lights they do the most amazing version of the song. It speaks not only to their talent and professionalism but also to the thoughtfulness and respect with which they view their audience.

The versatility of Home Free is astounding. They can be silly and funny, somber and serious, or artistic and grand. I'm always amazed at how they can make you feel a song so deeply. We Home Fries sound like a broken record, but we can't help it because they provide such awesome music EVERY TIME that we're impressed over and over again. I surely hope you react to Adam's drum solo from 2015 (red shirt) as well, though. It is jaw dropping and showcases his amazing beat boxing skills. Adam grew his hair long twice to donate to wigs for children with cancer. That's why he's got a pony tail. Adam doesn't sing very often, and Tim once said he only sings one note in this alone, but once he gets ahold of a note, he really hangs on to it, so it could very well have been Adam. Its so cool to see new people just discovering Home Free, be as excited to hear each new song as we always are. And for us, they never get old. I missed the sustained high until you pointed it out. Home Free is so good, and I love their versions of so many songs. This one.... WILL be played at whatever service is held in commemoration of my passing. Beautiful.
Whether HomeFree are doing a spiritual song, a goofy one, a patriotic, a love song or anything in between they always deliver a "masterpiece" in my opinion. This was indeed!!!. Adam's voice is very beautiful when we are privileged to hear him. Beautiful scenery indeed. 🦋🥀🦋
They're geniuses at arranging and a lot of them are done by Darren Rust. I believe that four of them have degrees in music and several of them do arrangements... Adam sings the whole song. This was videoed in the Austrian Alps while on their European tour. That was cancelled because of covid. Last note was a double base.

How Great Thou Art (O store Gud) is a Swedish spiritual song with lyrics from 1885 by Carl Boberg (1859-1940) which was first printed on March 13, 1886. Carl Boberg wrote the lyrics after experiencing a thunderstorm at Kalmarsund in Småland. The music is a Swedish folk melody. It is one of the most widespread spiritual songs in the world.
Tim is all over the place in this. Hard to believe but when I saw this live in December Tim was doing the high ooo's in the second half and then traveling back down to the bass. And Tim and Chance double up on the bass at times as well. Adam stays pretty high and fills in the harmonies between Austin and Rob. They really have no limits they all shift all over the place in the best ways possible. I was a blubbering mess hearing this live. They really are unique and the best at what they do. Love your breakdowns and attention to detail. Thank you!

double bass drop, it's Tim and Chance....this is so perfect. I listen to it every morning when I wake up & then talk to my wife who has been gone for 31 years now. Cancer stinks. This was filmed in the Austrian Alps....about a 30 minute drive from where the opening of the Sound of Music was filmed. This is about as good as music can get
I think this is one of the best versions of this song. Tim's bass really carries the song. I just found Home Free last year & love these 5 talented guys. And the scenery is awesome filmed in the beautiful Austrian Alps (my dad comes from that area).
This is my favorite version of "How Great Thou Art". Adam Rupp's spotlight video really needs to be his drum solo! Thanks Dave, loved the reaction!! ♥️🍟
In their latest release, Adam Rupp is singing a beautiful "background tenor rhythm", you only see him singing it for a split second, but very prominent.
A double win for me! This beautiful rendition by Home Free and your happy reaction. We Home Fries do love reactors who go down the Home Free rabbit hole. Keep'em coming, Dave and we will follow!
I think this is one of the most beautiful covers of Home Free. Also, I have heard this song many times because I come from a very Christian family and I can say that this version touches me the most. Probably also because of the beautiful area in Austria where this was recorded. I showed this song to my mother (84) a few months ago and it also touched her very much that she herself suggested it in her church to show it there. It is so wonderfully sung with all those beautiful, but also different voices. You not only hear it, but you feel it.
Joan, I got to hear them in concert the year this came out. It was almost laughable at how amazed Home Free was at the fan response to this song. The audience at the concert was no different and watching them react to us was fun.
@@wendischambach6181 I must admit that I am very jealous of you. 😉 I would love to see a live performance of Home Free one day. I'm willing to believe what you're saying here. Yes it is just so beautiful.❤
I wonder if the angels were jealous when they heard Home Free sing this beautiful old hymn. You would think by now I would be past the point of being blown away by the expertise and sheer beauty of Home Free’s innovative and unique ability to draw the listener in. They are the gold standard of a capella.
Great reaction to an amazing group of guys. Tim and Chance changing out the bass and then all together is so good. Austin, Rob and Adam with the tenor ranges are great. Home Free can make you smile, cry or laugh and do it all so well. Thank you
Thank you for noticing! I haven't yet heard Adam sing entirely solo. I don't know if Austin is backing him up or the reverb, but I'd really like to hear just Adam. I know he doesn't like it at all, because he isn't vocally trained like the others, but he seems to have a great voice if we could just hear it a bit more clearly. Even in "Helplessly Hoping" Adam comes in with Tim, even though all five are singing. 🤷♀️
at the point where tou stopped to point out the sustained high notes it had already been going on for a bit. All of those sustained rafter notes were in fact Adam Rupp. Most people sleep on his range because his beats are so incredible but if you think about how high he goes with his simulated harmonica, you realize that he gets up there.
A Chance Tim double bass note. They all can do nothing wrong. Thanks for recognizing Chance doing bass. This song was produce in the studio and they resang it on their European Tour. In the Austrian Alps
I totally agree with Tammy Dodge... Warning- When you get to do "When A Man Loves A Women" (Austin) Hold onto your socks, you may get blown out of them??? You're nailing it Dave! 👍
When Austin has his lead the high notes in the chorus and many ppl think it´s Rob but in fact it´s Adam the guys say Adam is right between Austin and Rob
Love your channel!! To think these guys don’t use any instruments just blows my mind!! What a fantastic group of well trained, God given, talented dudes. Keep up your good work, greetings from Southern California.
It’s one of my favorites of theirs and also favorite version of this song. It’s so beautiful. This was filmed in the Austrian Alps when they were touring there. Love your analysis. Chance was the bass in his former group so he can carry the bass while Tim is singing. Adam has a nice tenor voice but doesn’t like to sing so much. Try Helplessly Hoping, Brothers in Arms, In the Blood to hear more great harmonies. 😍
You could do a Home Free reaction every day, and I promise you, we won't judge. 🤣 Plus it would get you through about 9 months straight lol. My recommendation for you for an Adam Rupp beatbox feature would be the Butts Remix. Not only is it hilarious, but the genre jumping and the sheer talent and the way it shows how good Adam was at beat boxing that long ago, it's awesome. Of course there's also Do You Hear What I Hear, and that REALLY showcases Adam Rupp (he also arranged it), but I'm not sure how you feel about doing a Christmas song in June. Up to you!! I'll say this, no matter what you pick, you can't go wrong. Keep it up!
Loved the reaction to this gorgeous version of this hymn. Thanks, Dave. And for just Adam, you need to see one of his "drum solo's". It's just him on stage. He doesn't sing, but he does more than just vocal percussion.
I am definitely excited to watch that! For the first "go-around" I wanted to do all "Home Free" songs - no singles or "solo" stuff. But after this, everything is fair game.
One of the best vids for the ensemble aspect is Helplessly Hoping. The entries and releases are amazing. Brothers in Arms is fab for Tim singing at the bottom of his range
You can lose your mind anytime..if that means you'll react to Home Free! Loved your reaction......this was the most beautiful vocal harmonies ever! When they sing this live....it is breathtaking!
Thank you for another great reaction. And you can pause all you want, it doesn’t ruin it, it is just you sharing your respect for what they can do. Keep them coming.
awesome to have a more Home Free focused reaction stream, I luv Pentatonix but also have a soft spot for the 'boys' of Home Free. from what I have seen of them if Austin isn't singing melody he is usually the top note of backing vocal, from what I could see in that clip I'm guessing that the sustained top note was Adam Rupp, such a shame that he wasn't in view at the time to really tell
The sustained descant, up high, is Adam. He's really good at staying in tune on the high sustains - i'll bet because the breath support needed for his beatboxing.
Got home after a long day to find you’ve done yet another Home Free reaction and made my day! So glad to see how much you enjoy their beautiful harmonies. I introduced a friend at work to Home Free, he went home and listened to them all weekend long. He played this song for his wife. It’s apparently her favorite hymn, and according to him, she wept. And listened to it repeatedly all weekend. You really must watch Brothers in Arms, as well. Very little vocal percussion\beatboxing, and these 5 guys sound like they’re in a church, with an organ and full choir. It’s absolutely amazing. Again, to really highlight Adam Rupp, you should also do Ain’t Goin’ Down. Adam has a few “nomonica” solos that’ll knock your socks off. Also, you mentioned PTX’s Mary Did You Know in your first reaction. Home Free also has a version that is jaw dropping. I really hope you do When a Man Loves a Woman for Austin’s highlight. Best version I’ve ever heard. And, of course, for Rob, it should be End of the Road. A member of Boys II Men heard it and was a fan. But really, any song you choose to do is a safe bet with these talented guys. Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole! KYSOTI!
Just like watching a kid on Christmas morning.. God I love you.. Thanks for all you do! For Austin.. "When A Man Loves A Woman." Blue Aint Your Color.".. "One Man Band".. and "Moonshine" .. "Meet In The Middle.". enjoy!
My mom loved this song by them, it was the first song by them I played for her, so it was only fitting that I played it at her funeral, the last time I played it for her.
This song definitely makes me emotional--Home Free's version is my very favorite version of all the many, many I have heard 😍 Besides the unbelievable harmonies--and gorgeous backdrop of the Austrian Alps--getting to hear Adam Rupp's sweet tenor actually singing is a real treat ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
Hi Dave, Home Free always go big with their video production. They were in Europe for an A capella festival and capitalize on the opportunity to make the video. It was filmed in the Austrian Alps. Beautiful scenery for a beautiful hymn . They even have the video from the vault of how they compiled it
If you are looking for the best Austin song, you should pick When a man loves a woman. In that song the others are just in the background and Austin shines ... :-)
Loved your reaction!! Since I found HF, I listen to this every Sunday-🔥 Still you picked up on some things I hadn’t heard. Thank you!! BTW, filmed in Austrian Alps I believe.
Without a doubt, hands down, the Austin song you should choose When A Man Loves A Women. He leads throughout and is considered the new gold standard version of that classic. He just blows it out of the water.
This incredible arrangement was done by their producer, Darren Rust, who they refer to as the sixth member of Home Free. Darren runs a studio where they record most of their music. He also has been singing bass in his own group, The Blenders, for the last 30 years. I’ve seen The Blenders in concert a few times and they are fantastic.
Another great reaction! The guys of Home Free have the richest harmonies I've ever heard in a band, every note absolutely clear and clean. When Tim starts with his fantastic bass, I always get goosebumps - WOW. This song is one of my favorites. There are many good gospel songs out there, but until I met the guys in Home Free, I didn't feel the need to listen to these songs multiple times. I'm not a Christian, but I love good music. And the guys in Home Free are phenomenal. These unique talents could get me into any church :-) LOL
There's so many songs out there. Makes it hard to pick the next one. I think you'd really enjoy their Sea Shanty Medley. It's fun, plus it features them all. Another good one to check out if you liked the vocals in this one, you might like their version of God Bless the USA with Lee Greenwood and the US Air Force band. It's probably the best version of that song out there. I don't know if it is something worthy of its own reaction video, but checking out their live version of How Great Thou Art is amazing. They do this in person.
This was a great reaction, Dave! This is one of their best, in my opinion, and one of my top favorites. There is much to hear in this one, and you pointed out something I don’t know how I missed it, which was the continual high note you mentioned. It sounds like Austin, but I could be mistaken, since I haven’t heard Adam sing that high. If you want to hear a little more of Adam singing, even though it’s in the background, check out their latest cover “The Driver”. He’s singing the “Do Da Dum” almost throughout the song. It’s a wonderful cover and I think you’ll really love it, too! The song and the video are well done and have a great message. Looking forward to more Home Free! You’ve barely dipped a toe into the deep rabbit hole of their UA-cam list. It’s going to be a wonderful journey with you.
Another great reaction! Adam Rupp master at beatbox and percussion. Even though you can pick him out in each song he does an awesome job highlighting his talent in Butt's Medley/Remix, or Do You Hear What I Hear among others but he is definitely prominent in these two.
If you watch one of the fan videos of Adam Rupps most recent live drum solos, he uses a looper to beatbox, sing and harmonize with himself. It's extraordinary.
Back when Chris Rupp was still in the band, they did a comic routine in their live show called Guilty Pleasures. Adam Rupp has a 1 minute singing solo @9:28. He is singing Korean, but he is singing. Just putting it out there, it's 10+ minutes so you may not want to do it as a reaction. It's a ridiculous skit, worthy of the Home Free name.
Hi there! 👋 Just stumbled on your channel tonight with this video. So, I'm sure I'm not the first to say it, nor the last, but don't apologize for pausing (especially when you go back a little when you get back into it)... for most of us, if we wanted to hear it uninterrupted we wouldn't be watching reactions, we'd go watch the original for the umpteenth time. 😆 Thank you for an exciting reaction to their absolutely beautiful version of this piece. Loved it and will certainly check out more, right after I hit this subscribe button here. Be well!
There's only one tenor voice unaccounted for in the last chorus ... Adam Rupp. Unless they doubled Austin's parts, my guess is that angelic voice up top is ADAM !!
Some of those high ooohs you were pointing out were actually Tim, believe it or not. I know his range and even I was shocked. I didn’t realize it was him until I watched a vid of them singing this song live. They are all so freaking talented, but Tim, my goodness, he is just ridiculously amazing.
YES!!! You just got a subscriber. I've watched so many reactions to this video and you are only the second person to say ANYTHING about Adam. Everyone goes on and on about the others' voices and they always talk about Adam's harmonizing or his phenomenal beat boxing ability but in this video where you actually HEAR that beautiful voice of his, they seem to forget he's even there. Thank You!!!!
This was done in the Swiss Alps. They were in Australia at a music festival and when they seen this beautiful scenery they had their crew from USA come to them. HF has episodes from the vault and that shows how it was all set up and yes they had drones and everything
Loved the reaction. This is one of my favourite Home Free recordings and videos. Such an interesting and beautiful arrangement of harmonies. Always gets me in the feels as the kids say. I think they layered Adam’s solo vocal part with two separate tracks to fill out the sound a bit. But it’s still all Adam’s voice. That extended high note on “Art” has a similar tone as Adam’s, and he can definitely go that high, but I don’t know if it’s actually him. He doesn’t sing it on any live videos I’ve seen, I guess because this arrangement is too complex for them to perform live. Congrats on 1K subs. That was pretty darn fast. 👍

I would love to see a live performance of Home Free one day.
Thank you
If you want some of their humor and to hear Adam sing another line, check out “Quarantine.”
Adam can do almost anything with his vocals, maybe he added the vibration to his Angelic voice.
This is the second sing I heard Home Free sing.....was hooked after the first Man of Constant Sorrow.
When Austin has his lead the high notes in the chorus and many ppl think it´s Rob but in fact it´s Adam the guys say Adam is right between Austin and Rob
Please check out their "My Country Tis of Thee", for another SPECTACULAR piece. And, Adam sings beautifully again.
Love your channel!! To think these guys don’t use any instruments just blows my mind!!
What a fantastic group of well trained, God given, talented dudes.
Keep up your good work, greetings from Southern California.
I don’t know why the algorithm chose today to show me your channel & this video in particular. It was so needed. ❤
Keep it up!
Love their version of Do You Hear What I Hear!
O I agree, love Do you hear what I hear. Adam's arrangement is divine & apparently very complicated (non singer here)
@@donnam5891 I was a singer (in high school), and it’s incredibly complex!
During the part Austin is singing you hear a lovely high flute fluttering around like a butterfly? That is Adam. He does a very pretty flute.
You need to listen to Adam's drum solo during one of their live performances.
Everything is so perfect in the beautiful Austrian Alps.. For Adam you should do his drum solo
He probably has the lungs of a deep sea diver.
KYSOTI!
I love this reaction, this is a beautiful song and they did an amazing version.
Just like watching a kid on Christmas morning.. God I love you.. Thanks for all you do! For Austin.. "When A Man Loves A Woman." Blue Aint Your Color.".. "One Man Band".. and "Moonshine" .. "Meet In The Middle.". enjoy!
Hello Sally how are you doing today
My mom loved this song by them, it was the first song by them I played for her, so it was only fitting that I played it at her funeral, the last time I played it for her.
🌷
This song definitely makes me emotional--Home Free's version is my very favorite version of all the many, many I have heard 😍
Besides the unbelievable harmonies--and gorgeous backdrop of the Austrian Alps--getting to hear Adam Rupp's sweet tenor actually singing is a real treat ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
Hola, Dave!! Great reaction. They did this during a tour in Europe. I think the long high note is Rob. They are so talented.
Every day is Tuesday!!!!! Keep em coming. I love Home Free all week long! And another great reaction from you!!
Hi Dave, Home Free always go big with their video production. They were in Europe for an A capella festival and capitalize on the opportunity to make the video. It was filmed in the Austrian Alps. Beautiful scenery for a beautiful hymn . They even have the video from the vault of how they compiled it
This song made me a Home Fry, and it is still my favourite!
Hello Debbie how are you doing today
The five part harmony they get into is amazing.
Without a doubt, hands down, the Austin song you should choose When A Man Loves A Women. He leads throughout and is considered the new gold standard version of that classic. He just blows it out of the water.
You need to do When a Man Loves a Woman...Austin slays it!
Hello Joy Lambert how are you doing
This incredible arrangement was done by their producer, Darren Rust, who they refer to as the sixth member of Home Free. Darren runs a studio where they record most of their music. He also has been singing bass in his own group, The Blenders, for the last 30 years. I’ve seen The Blenders in concert a few times and they are fantastic.
My favorite version of this great hymn for sure. Check out Home Free doing Folsom Prision Blues. Awesome.
Love your channel and the fact you can point out the more technical aspects - but not in an annoying way!
Home Free is like a box of chocolates. Ya never know what you’re gonna get. 🥰
Adam did the high passing note
Adam sings in all hymns. No beat boxing in church.
But the whole "Guilty Pleasures" video is well worth a reaction--hilarious!!!
Thank you for an exciting reaction to their absolutely beautiful version of this piece. Loved it and will certainly check out more, right after I hit this subscribe button here.
Be well!
Thanks Carolyn!
That last low note could've been Tim, Chance and Adam to cause it to be such a full sound.
There's only one tenor voice unaccounted for in the last chorus ... Adam Rupp. Unless they doubled Austin's parts, my guess is that angelic voice up top is ADAM !!
The whole song is gorgeous, but that ending is perfection! They could just stand there & sing that one last chord, & I'd be happy.
I hadn't thought about the bass sounding like an organ but you're right.
This is one of the best covers ever.
They dubbed Adam’s voice so that it sounds like a Gregorian chant, in keeping with the theme of the song itself.
Some of those high ooohs you were pointing out were actually Tim, believe it or not. I know his range and even I was shocked. I didn’t realize it was him until I watched a vid of them singing this song live. They are all so freaking talented, but Tim, my goodness, he is just ridiculously amazing.
No way that is just unfair!
I think you meant Austria.
@@dagmar.6954 sorry, that’s what I mint, thank you. 🎼🦋
Home Fries Unite!!❤️🔥😍😂
