What I think really sets Home Free apart in a cappella is that it’s always about the SONG and not the SINGER. They know to keep the focus on the beauty of the song itself and don’t put in crazy runs or vocal gymnastics unless it serves to enhance the song. It’s never just a chance to show off, it’s all about what makes the song itself shine. No ego, just great music.
When you prepare reactions for the Christmas season, be sure to include Home Free's version of "Auld Lang Syne" for New Years - it's special. My personal favorites for Christmas are Do You Hear What I Hear (arranged by Adam Rupp) and O Holy Night.
They were in Austria at a festival and decided to record this. They called their crew and everyone came. So, this is filmed in the Austrian Alps. Gorgeous scenery - Oh, Lord How Great Thou Art!!
They filmed this video in the Austrian Alps. :) Definitely react to Do You Hear What I hear, and O Holy Night... their rendition of Away in the Manger is quite beautiful as well (Chris Rupp holds the lead in this one). Chris Rupp feat. Home Free doing What Child Is This? is also fantastic. It was so awesome to see all six of the Home Free guys in a video together.
I learned in an interview that Austin Brown would sing with his father's gospel quartet from the time he was 6 or 7 years old. Their versions of hymns are always beautiful and this is the best rendition of How Great Thou Art that I've ever heard. If you haven't heard their version of "Mary Did You Know?" you've got to do so - you'll understand why when you do.
I think this is one of the best versions of this song. Tim's bass really carries the song. I just found Home Free last year & love these 5 talented guys. And the scenery is awesome filmed in the beautiful Austrian Alps (my dad comes from that area).
I learned both bass and baritone parts in a 4 part harmony version of this in church choir ages ago. It *never* sounded this good! Amazing vocalists with an amazing arrangement.
This song was my introduction to Home Free! It was also my introduction to modern a cappella. I went down the Home Free rabbit hole when I heard this one! My second song was My Church (cover of Marin Morris) and then I heard Do You Hear What I Hear and I became a serious Home Fry! I discovered Pentatonix and Voice Play afterwards but Home Free is still my favorite! Great reaction! Enjoying your trip down the rabbit hole 😎❤️👍
When doing Christmas reactions, Home Free: Tim’s original: Full of Cheer, and my 2 favorite Christmas arrangements of all time: Do You Hear What I Hear (phenomenal arrangement by Adam Rupp) 🤯 and Chris Rupp featuring Home Free: What Child Is This (my favorite music video ever, filmed in a cave in Minnesota) are absolute must watch! This is absolutely beautiful. I appreciate that 1 of my favorite tenors, Adam Rupp sang a lead on a favorite hymn! This is stunning. Thank you and God Bless!
Adam's arrangement of Do You Hear is my favorite arrangement of any Christmas song, ever. I also recommend Chris' arrangement of Angels We Have Heard on High and Tim's arrangement of O Holy Night. Both are gorgeous.
The guys were touring Europe, pre COVID, and happened to fly over the Austrian Alps, and saw this view out of their windows, and decided that they had to use the beautiful scenery in a song. This song is the result, and IMHO their vocals match the scenery. I'd like to request you react to Do You Hear What I Hear, a song that is vocally and visually stunning.
Thank you for reacting to this one! It's a favorite for sure! So very beautiful! Love the harmonies, Tim starting off, the tenor notes are angelic, Chance helping hold that bass line and I must say that it is always a special treat to hear Adam sing! His voice is really so much better than he gives himself credit for! This is my favorite version of this song! I love it!
So I know jack-diddly squat about music composition, theory, chords, octaves 🤯, etc… but I remember you saying how much it added when Tim’s lower range support gave a unique contrast when combined with Austin’s highs. At about 1:45 in your video, it’s like Austin is providing the same support, but inverted from low under the high to high “under” the low. So many things I never realized help give an immense amount of character to these renditions. Thanks for the knowledge and attention to detail that I’m slowly starting to recognize. It makes music so much more interesting.
I know it is a year later and you most likely will not see this... But I was disappointed you did not speak on Adam's voice. It was like an angel fell from Heaven and sung.. It grabbed my soul. Then as Austin was singing there was Adam in the back ground singing high notes like an angel. I have stage 5 CKD... My dream would be to hear that angelic voice sing again before I die. Shame he does not get noted when it is obvious his voice out did them all in this song...
How Great Thou Art (O store Gud) is a Swedish spiritual song with lyrics from 1885 by Carl Boberg (1859-1940) which was first printed on March 13, 1886. Carl Boberg wrote the lyrics after experiencing a thunderstorm at Kalmarsund in Småland. The music is a Swedish folk melody. It is one of the most widespread spiritual songs in the world. The video How great thou art is recorded in Kematen in Tyrol Austria. Watch: Home Free - From the vault Episode 8, How great thou art, behind the scenes.
The setting in the Austrian Alps seems to reflect the pitch progressions of the verses. Starting with Tim in the valley, then to Rob climbing the lower slopes, then to Austin ascending the summit. It may just be my imagination in this case, but Home Free certainly spends a lot of time making sure the videos complement the music. I really enjoy your reactions/analyses by the way.
Thanksgiving Greetings to you. So enjoyable to watch you react to Home Free's version of "How Great Thou Art". Wish I had the funds to send you an early Christmas present of really good headphones. Maybe you could borrow some. Just would like you to experience Home Free's holiday videos that way. Especially "Winter's Song" and "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem", oh and "Snowglobe". Wish it was possible to give thumbs up multiple times. Take care and be well.
This song always gives me goosebumps. I like your reaction and how you breakdown all the little things in the song and performance a person not in the music business would know.
They are in Austria if I remember correctly....This is one of my grandmother's favorites and mine as well....absolutely gorgeous.. You should try Elvira they collaborate with the Oakridge Boys it's fun and amazingly done
Yes, the simplistic approach to this song is perfect and beautiful as it should be. I found HF early this year by first finding Austin sing "Unchained Melody". I just wanted to hear what that young fella could do to an old classic...wow, did I find out! It's been a snowball ride ever since. I like watching HF reaction videos (but not all). One in particular reactor I would like you to hear is Brad Steele. He is also a musician and wrote and performed a song I would love you to listen to, entitled "God Heals the Broken". He also got to interview Austin which was pretty cool. Love your reactions. I am learning to train my ear in different ways. Thanx!
Not stalking, just catching up on some of your videos this evening (hence the nth comment in the last hour, hahah) I like your comments throughout the videos because they are so genuine. Whether they are technical or entertaining, or both! You come across like a very likable and knowledgable man. I bet you are an amazing teacher. Watching someone you regard in that way reacting to music you yourself really appreciate is fantastic. Thank you!
I've heard this so many ways ........... THIS by far is the best (and so pleasing!) rendition (for me!); if this one gets "topped", I don't know what I'd do with myself! Just Sayin
Love home free this is one of the few songs adam rupp sings solo he's got a beautiful voice ❤ I think better then his brother but he prefer beat boxer and is the best in the world I love ptx but home free has something special god bless
Another nice reaction - for more harmonies (ok, they all are, but...) "My Country 'Tis of Thee" filmed in South Dakota. They start out apart and then all come together, and Adam Rupp has a solo in that one, too. Did you notice his nice tenor on "It is well"?
Very nice reaction of a beautiful rendition of a beautiful song! The explosion at 06:56 pushed my brains out through my nose, from pressure from my ears >.
I love your Home Free reactions so much! With Christmas on the way, I suggest reacting to Home Free's versions of O Holy Night and Auld Lang Syne. Amazing!
This is fairly recent as Chance joined the group in 2016 (when Chris Rupp left). No ping against Chris, it means the bass line is covered while Tim is singing. It also means 2 on lower end & Adam, Robb & Austin are spread out wherever Tim isn't there, that gives a wide choral. Sometimes when listening to certain groups the ratio is slightly off. Here it's covering the spectrum which sounds 'fuller'? 'Richer' more powerful covering more notes. The beatboxers in Pentatonix, VoicePlay & Homefree do sing. In ballads & gospels they have strong voices. It's just at times doing the beatboxing people aren't focusing on their lips. Similar to drummers in a band that do the main vocals, no one is fully paying attention. My criticism with reactions videos is someone's closing their eyes or look away not seeing the video. People mistake Avi for hitting the low note at the end in 'Ring of Fire', or Tim's singing all the bass line in 'Mayday' not recognizing he's doing tenor parts duo with Robb & Austin, or Austin doing guitar licks. Another criticism is many times they stop the video before the final ending or don't hear the tribute or shout-out.
I love this. It’s one of my favorites of theirs. It’s so beautiful and the song has such incredible lyrics that it doesn’t need too many theatrics. The setting is also beautiful and majestic. It was filmed in the Austrian Alps when they were touring there. Good reaction Chris. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Have you heard any Voctave yet? If not, you owe it to your ears to listen to their rendition of "Mary Did You Know," featuring Mark Lowry, the author of the song. It just might be life changing!
I'm pissed! You said nothing about what a beautiful voice Adam has. You always talk about Tim and Austin and Rob and even Chance's voices and you talk about Adam's beat boxing but the one time you hear him actually sing you said nothing! When he started "It is well with my soul" and they weren't harmonizing with him yet it sounded like he was singing in a cathedral. Of course neither has any other reactor but I thought sure you would say something.
I didn't pick up on it, sorry! :) As with most people, when you're focused on someone doing something for so long, when they "change it up" sometimes you don't even realize what they did because you're used to what the have always done.
@@creativecrewfam I know. I tend to focus on Adam the first time I watch a video and miss seeing something from the other guys until I watch it again. Didn't mean to rant at you. Love your reactions
That high tenor voice in the background during Austin's verse is the beatboxer! Go, Adam Rupp!
Oh wow!!!
I was waiting for to say something about Adam singing.
The guys from Home Free have the very richest harmonies I've ever heard in a band.
What I think really sets Home Free apart in a cappella is that it’s always about the SONG and not the SINGER. Yes yes yes!!!

And Grandma Got Runover By A Reindeer!
Why do so many reviewers overlook, or completely ignore, Adam Rupp's solo contribution with "It is well with my soul..."?
Cause we’re so used to hearing him beatbox, I didn’t even realize it was his voice. Amazing contribution nonetheless! :)
They were in Austria at a festival and decided to record this. They called their crew and everyone came. So, this is filmed in the Austrian Alps. Gorgeous scenery - Oh, Lord How Great Thou Art!!
Oh Holy Night is an amazing one by my favorite guys😍
They filmed this video in the Austrian Alps. :)

Home Free doing What Child Is This? is also fantastic. It was so awesome to see all six of the Home Free guys in a video together.
Also, thinking of Christmas, Do their song with Kenny Rogers - I think it's something like "Go Where I Send Thee".
@@sallycripe2697 Yep, prefaced by Children Go Where I Send Thee - that is indeed another beaut!! Great call, Sally!

Love home frees version of this they sing it so beautifully
Did you notice that those soaring, haunting high notes in the background were Adam Rupp?
This was the second Home Free video I watched. Leading out with Timothy..... That was it. Have been following them ever since.
Out of every song they have ever done this is my favorite. Goosebumps everytime
This song was my introduction to Home Free! It was also my introduction to modern a cappella. I went down the Home Free rabbit hole when I heard this one! Back up you didn't notice Adam singing. He has a beautiful voice as well.
So awesome. They filmed it in the Swiss Alps. (Austria) So, so good.♥️
The guys were touring Europe, pre COVID, and happened to fly over the Austrian Alps, and saw this view out of their windows, and decided that they had to use the beautiful scenery in a song. This song is the result, and IMHO their vocals match the scenery.

This is my favourite version of this song. It's my default go-to.

This was my mom's favorite hymn, and this is my most favorite version of it.💜💕 I hope she's enjoying it.😔💜
This was filmed in the Austrian Alps while they were there. I love that we get to hear Adam Rupp a solo. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction.
Thanks for watching! :)
“COLD HARD CASH”…Austin wrote it &, “WARMEST WINTER”.. (most beautiful about his Nani…who he was very close)🙃‼️😢. One funny & one serious ‼️

Really? Simple? I think it was perfect and heavenly
Simply heavenly ;)
They are in the Austrian alps
Beautiful harmonies, beautiful change of lead, beautiful scenery. I particularly love the last bass drop. Thanks for your reaction
A drone did the footage in the Alps of Austria 🇦🇹. Home Free rendition of this song always gets me teary-eyed! Great reaction!
Love your reaction. You saw things that I didn’t see (ie looking up when they sang “& hear the birds”. I loved Adam singing “it is well” also. Thanks!
Sound of Music country!

Great reaction, Snow Globe is a great original Christmas song.
This is the current lineup, so the video isn't THAT old. It is one of the first videos with Chance singing baritone.
I love your Home Free reactions so much! With Christmas on the way, I suggest reacting to Home Free's versions of O Holy Night and Auld Lang Syne. Amazing!
I believe they were in Austria. This is my favorite version.
Beautifully done 🎼🎶🦋🎵🦃
Chris, please do a reaction to Honey I'm Good, they won't disappoint!
I'll have to check that out!
Can't wait to see your reaction to this, you're sure to love it x

I believe they are in the Austrian Alps.
They’re in the Austrian Alps
After Home Free is there any other group????
Mr Rupp can sing and nobody says anything about it
He sure can! Didn’t even realize it was him until going back to edit…so used to him beatboxing
