Been playing with one of these on the coffee table on/off for a week - got some cool sounds as I have been figuring things out but these are next level. Inspired. Subscribed 🙌🏻
And it was at this moment he knew - "He had to buy it". Yep, went over to Dubreq's site and confirmed my order. Thanks again Oscillator Sink for helping my GAS habit.
I am so glad you got this synth! Such an amazing video! I did the filter pinging and spent a very long time doing it all while getting lost in the delay and reverb! It certainly takes on a whole other sound when you use the HP filter and mess around with the filter LFO depth. Thank you for another wonderful video sir 😁
Amazing! At 16:15 I could start hearing the potential in having the DS-2 filter pinging and exploring the results. It feels like it transports one to a 50s style SciFi adventure. Thanks! 🚀
Cheers! Pinged filters, especially when you find one that really responds well to it, are a wonderful thing, and yes, often very evocative of those early, experimental days of electronic music.
Let’s go 🎉! It’s a amazing piece of gear ⚙️ thanks for the tips, I’ll save this video and can’t wait for the rest of the models in the series. Side note speaker is way more useful then first thought 💭
Inspiring stuff as ever Mr Sink. That ping was just magic. I'm still not going to buy one but hope to try that on my behringer Kobol Expander - just turn the Oscillators right down 🌝👍
So far my favorite is making RD-D2/Droid sounds. Crank the resonance on one of the filters, and route the LFO to the cutoff with max LFO depth. Works best with one of the square wave type LFO shapes. Then experiment with the LFO rate and cutoff.
@@Kothag the classic bleep-bloops never go out of style! Try using a low-tuned square wave oscillator on the other drone voice rather than the lfo - you'll get some really fun ring-mod-esque tones that way!
I got two 'proper' synths the same week I got the DS-2 and have barely touched them. This thing is unexpectedly great. The pinged filter bit pure reminded me of Backdrifts by Radiohead.
It shouldn't be surprising that Stylophone are well placed to understand what makes a synth fun, but I don't think most people were ready to just...enjoy it!
Thanks! I think I've just bought mine off Amazon - not had a single one fail and for this synth in particular they don't need to be long at all. You didn't say where you were from, which probably changes the answer, but an alternative in the UK would be a dedicated synth shop like Elevator Sound, Signal Sound or Juno.
I personally have an interest in it, but it's a case of too much cool gear, but not enough money to buy it all (and the 5 or 6 quid I'd make off the video doesn't really cover it). There's so much cool gear I'd like to do videos about if money was infinite!
This is eye-opening stuff. As a total beginner, just watching you work helped me to understand how some of this stuff works. Don't suppose you want to do an idiot's guide to how to approach it?
Thanks for watching! I'd actually suggest taking a look at some basic videos on modular synthesis in general rather than something tailored just to this synth. Getting a grounding in the basic building blocks of subtracting synthesis (this is fundamentally a subtractive synth) and thinking about how to apply them to this synth will probably help you bed in the concepts better. Andrew did a good primer: ua-cam.com/video/cWslSTTkiFU/v-deo.htmlsi=0REKLgX3ESpwochY As is this one from Dave: ua-cam.com/video/kBT4ycltfBE/v-deo.htmlsi=SqY826Ii7ojmA_UY
Too hard to watch, all these finger movements while you're talking is like a children's puppet show. Good info, but hard to watch. Please consider eliminating the puppet show on future videos. Maybe just show your face when you're just talking. Thank you.
@ I understand, the logistics are an important consideration. You can simply do the intro parts without waving your hands around. There's another tuber that does this excessively and I had to stop watching.
@@kingtetvideo I suspect you might have to stop watching me too then. My hands move when I speak in real life too. That's OK, not everyone is going to be to your tastes.
CV for pitch, filter (which is also v/oct) absolutely - I actually show this in the first patch - I'm even using an SQ-1, although it's off-screen. You don't have a VCA or an envelope so "gate" is less useful, but a great, inexpensive way to "fix" that is to use a little, passive low-pass gate (a 0HP one is most convenient). I'm planning a video where I pair the DS-2 with other stuff, and that'll be one of the pairings.
Do you have a favourite tip, trick or patch? Let's share some drone-spiration in this thread!
WHY ISN'T IT CALLED THE STYLODRONE
OH MY GOD, IT WAS RIGHT THERE!
Oh it totally is now! ❤
Brilliant!

A superb demo, pinging the filter, what a phenomenal patch.

Thanks for the kind words! I'm a simple man: I see a filter, I ping it!
The Groovebox Patch at first sounds simple and limited but the DS-2 provides so many sonic possibilities. Really nice groove! 🕺
I immediately had to grab my DS-2 to try it out - lost about an hour in acid land
Ahh i missed this video. This little thing has kept me busy for the last few weeks. 😊
