Edmonton indeed did play better, but they played better only based on a play style expected by Canadian media and fans. This is true for Leafs as well. I hear over and over again how the fans of these teams constantly saying their team played better. Because the fans and Canadian media don’t understand that these flashy, finesse, top heavy, high scoring, styles don’t work anymore. So yes, Canadian teams do indeed play better in their flashy uptempo style, but it doesn’t matter. Do you think Florida cares about common stats like goals and assists? They don’t, nor do the Vegas books. This is why Vegas had no problem putting the odds against Edmonton even if everyone else thinks they “played better”. Because their style doesn’t win championships. Hockey has changed, and media and fans need to see it from it different perspective. Connor not going out to receive the Conn Smythe is 100% why they 'say' that a player on the losing team of the final should never receive the Conn Smythe.
How could you say Mcdavid was the best player in the playoffs?!?!?! Bobby was by far the best player and barkov was a close 2nd. Bob stood on his head all 4 series. The Mcdavid hopium is nuts-o
Sam's Conn Smythe take is insane. Imagine McDavid says to his team (who he captains) at their absolute lowest moment "sorry guys i gotta leave to accept a personal award because new American hockey fans might think it's weird if i don't"
It's would be more for his fans watching on TV the kids that look up to him the kids that play hockey because of him. McD was the last Oiler to leave the ice anyways so what would have been a few mins. He didn't have to take the trophy back to the room, but I feel he needed to go out and accept it
Nothing against McDavid, but I think Barkov should have won the MVP. He was excellent during the entire playoffs and played an important part in pretty much every game.
McDavid only started getting some points after Barkov got elbowed in the head and once he was better, McDavid was held pointless. It still make sense that McDavid won the Smythe, people love big beautiful stats.
The conn smythe is like the handshake line for me. I completely understand players not wanting to do it but it's part of what makes hockey so special. The respect for your competitors. I think it's a missed opportunity for mcdavid. I know as fan of the Ducks the Jiggy photo means so much because it immortalized how amazing his efforts were and made it even more special in 07 when he finally got to hoist the cup. McDavid won't have that now
These guys are such sore losers, bashing the fans for traditions and putting mcdavid on this pedestal that he’s head and shoulders above the rest. Breaking a playoff record is cool, but winning a Stanley cup is WAY cooler, and 100x more rewarding. Enjoy his Conn(solation) Smythe trophy
Yeah Conn Smythe is the only leaf that is going to get anywhere near close to it in the future . I don't think it has ever been won by a guy who only plays in the first round - but if it was Toronto of course would insist it is theirs
What is that kid on the right talking about? McDaniel got shut down game 6 and 7. He got flat out stomped. Embarrassing he got that trophy and he knows it, best thing he did was not get coming out for it. And the biggest contribution Draisaitl made was having a temper tantrum and elbowing Barkov though it backfired.
You guys feel bit depressed, surely for a reason. McDavid earned Conn Smythe, his statistics in playoffs as a whole were worth the Trophy. But by other statistics, how he shadowed all the Superstars on the way to Trophy, including Connor, tells, that he was MVP of playoffs. Oilers did not loose because of Skinner, he played well. They lost because in Game 7 they only made one goal. Bob came back to his level, and Oilers supertars, all, not only Connor, could not deliver. They were exhausted in the end of 3rd period.
i agree with Sammy on the Conn Smythe not heavily, but i defer to honouring the history of the game. maybe he''ll take a photo with it in the coming days.
Barkov is the rightful MVP, but the voting hockey media are just glorified hockey pool junkies. They read statistics and don't understand how winning is done. Connor was not only shut down in games 6 and 7, he was shut down in games 1,2, and 3 too. Barkov, aside from actually WINNING the Cup, shut down McDavid, and unlike McDavid, was his team's best and most consistent player in EVERY series.
@@aleung7248 Barkov was actually the leading Panther and 2nd in voting, Forsling was 3rd. One first place vote for Bob doesn't mean he finished 2nd in voting..also I said the voters are idiots - so idiots voting unanimously is supposed to mean something?

As a Cats fan I'm glad he didn't accept the trophy on the ice. We have to sit through basically the Oilers national broadcast all series (I get it too. McDavid is the best player in the world.) That's the Cats moment they won the Cup. Let them and the fans enjoy it.
Listening to this pod is why Americans aren’t more into the sport. Because these clowns get a platform. Sam hating on a great tradition, and basically saying Fla is not the story..Bourne saying the Oilers were better in that game. Like just stop.
the best player in the world is Sasha Barkov. i know because I saw him beat the guy everyone thought was the best in the world. not only did he beat his team, but he beat him 1 on 1. barkov shut conor down defensively and barkov scored more goals to help his team win that conor could not do. Barkov > Mcdavid
I would tend to agree with you - in terms of overall - obviously no one is turning down McDavid but his overall play and size - Barkov is definitely in the discussion for best player in the world right now IMO - he really doesn't have a flaw - maybe he doesn't shoot as often as he could or should - that is getting pretty nit picky . But on top of all the skill he is a big, thick horse of a man that means a lot in a long playoff - McDavid was completely exhausted and looks emaciated by the end - they kid definitely gave it everything he has
The difference between Oilers and Panthers: Bill Zito. If a Canadian team had hardcore American ownership and management...... might have a chance to win. But the lame ass 'run it again' and weakness in taking big swings.... we get teams like the Leafs and Ottawa. Eventhough so many of the players come from Canada.... the decision makers come from the US.
totally - Canadian teams have not won for 30+ yrs now - its not any grand conspiracy - name me one Canadian team that has had excellent management over a sustained period of time ? there isn't one . Toronto had a period with Cliff Fletcher, and Burns and came close - they had chances with Pat Burns coaching - Ottawa forget it , Montreal has excellent management now - but have had a long list of clowns between now and Serge Savard, Same with Vancouver , Calgary hasn't really had excellent management since Cliff Fletcher, Edmonton was a clown show since Slats left and even now - they won how many lotteries to get to this ? Florida had 3 players that they drafted on their roster - that is some good pro scouting and some shrewd moves by Zitto. If some Canadian teams get that level of management for a while they will be having parades again .
Imagine being a Panthers core player and you get traded during the draft and the parade is two days after. I get why it ended so late and the extra days off allowed for better rest for players, so I'm glad for that.
yeah it made for a better finals series overall - McDavid looked like he was refugee by the end of the playoffs - he plays probably 28-30 minutes / game . Knoblach found out how to be a genius coach - he says - 97 are you ready to go out again !! thats it
I'm afraid another decade of darkness is coming in Edmonton. The Oilers blew their chance of winning the cup both last year and this year. As other teams in the NHL rise, I see the Oilers window for winning the cup rapidly closing. They have had too many missed opportunities. I hope I am wrong though.
Nick Kyprios, how many players are on the Edmonton Oilers? They doubled him up all night. Someone else has to be a difference maker. Hyman Drysaitail. Anyone really, it's a learning experience and I think next years playoffs will be much easier if it can. Peace ✌️ 😎. Great show. Mr melodramatic lol.
At my wit’s end with nhl media. As a panthers fan I love watching this show. But then you go and say game 7 was all about mcdavid. Then you say if barkov was in Canada, he’d have a statute finished. How about don’t make a franchises first cup about a LOSER
"What if's?" IF Vancouver had of had Demko in net, healthy, McDavid wouldn't even have been in the finals... So, yeah... What if's. They are all part of the toughest trophy to win in sports; attrition is a huge part of The Stanley Cup. Best "team" won. In the meantime, McDefense? still needs to learn there are 3 zones in hockey, before he can be considered anywhere near the "best hockey player in the world"; GOD DAMN, I'm SO bored of that ridiculous hyperbole. But, anyway, great playoffs overall.
What I dont understand is why is no one talking about Edmonton not pulling the goalie when they had possession with the big guys on the ice with 3 minutes left. You need a goal, waiting untill 1:30 was incredibly stupid.
Christ all mighty bud. Stupidest tradition? A team throws catfish - cool A team throws octopus - cool A team throws plastic rats - stupid Come onnn. Conor deserved the CS. Thru and thru. But stop riding the c**k. He left the ice, like many other future HOFers, during a Stanley cup loss. You make it seem like it’s the hockey version of the notebook. I’m glad he didn’t come out to receive it. He did right by his teammates.
Actually it has just come out McDavid has had an abdominal injury since before the playoffs that will likely require surgery, and Draisaitl has had a broken rib and finger(shooting hand) since the Vancouver series.
There’s two reasons why McD did the right thing. 1. He is a team player. And his team just lost. 2. He is a humble player and the winning team is celebrating, why interject himself into the situation when the Florida fans were clearly (and selfishly) booing the winner of that trophy.
C'mon Kyper "McDavid will be remembered for NOT being able to finish it off in game 6 and 7". This is early in his career. He is going to be back to the cup - probably several times. When this is remembered, it will just be 'one of his early attempts - before he won the cup" - and he will likely win it several times. I think he has a future like McKinnon - he is just going to keep improving.
Can any team break Florida's domination of the cup? No tax will ensure they compete for it many more times .. other team's have to overpay for thier players.
Except that it's not really a thing when you think that there are other states with no income tax and they haven't won a cup recently and also the fact that we are talking state income tax only for 41 games meaning for 8 million a year you lose a couple hundred thousand which isn't much when you are making millions
Where the hell are all the people here? what Edmonton loses then all the seagulls fly north locking themselves up in their poor me human mental horizon.. This is the problem with people today especially men who all get offended or upset when things don't go their way like a bunch of whining babies.. Fukn Jokes..
As a Cats fan, nothing but respect for Edmonton. Hell of a team, so impressive in the O zone it’s silly. That being said, you guys are coping on this pod. STILL making excuses why Edmonton lost, terrible look for you guys. Some of the fans however, were very obnoxious keyboard warriors the past two weeks. McDavid deserves a cup. GG Edmonton.
0:51 Wouldn’t it be the ultimate irony if the Leafs end up being the Canadian team to break the 31 year curse 😂😂. Imagine. I’m not holding my breath because my brain functions but that would be funny
Sammy.....The reason he wasn't there for the presentation of the trophy, is because he was with his teammates. He refused to be present to receive an individual trophy, because he had to be with guys that he just lost with. Its his job as the captain to put the team first and be there for them after a devastating loss. If anything, it was pure class, and it clearly showed that the members of the Edmonton Oilers are his top priority.
If McDavid does not need Conn Smythe why not give it to Bobrovsky? I agree: McDavid did not deliver when it was most needed, whereas Bob, on the contrary, delivered when it was most needed. That's the difference.
McDavid was not a major factor in the Canucks series, was pointless in multiple games in the final... and his team lost. I don't care about numbers, he put up a lot of assists.. but he didn't actually win a lot of games or series for his team. He wasn't the best player in the playoffs. Barkov was better through the playoffs.. and head to head with McDavid. Bobrovsky was better.. even with a couple bad games in the finals.. Mcdavid also had bad games in the finals. The constant glazing of McDavid by the media is nausea inducing. The league does not exist to heap accolades on McDavid. He lost.
I don’t blame McDavid for not sticking around to accept the Conn Smythe. If they insist on a player receiving it on the ice make it a rule that the player has to be from the winning team.
Connor McNoshow could not accept the trophy because he knows he did little in the Stanley cup final. Game 1 Noshow, Game 2 Noshow, Game 3 Noshow, Game 4 Noshow until game was over, Game 5 FINALLY shows up, Game 6 Noshow, and Game 7 Noshow. A bunch of No names and a rookie starting goalie are the only reason Edmonton did not go out in 4 games.Give the Conn Smyth to one of the No names or Skinner they came to play and exceeded expectations.
Interesting that Maurice has no faith in the team winning again next year. Let's hope for a Vancouver/Winnipeg matchup next year for the playoffs before they meet the Oilers then.
Can't feel bad for Connar or any athlete that loses when they have everything they want ..acalades..boat loads of money ..fame ...talent ..idolized!!!! Boo Hoo😂😂😂😂
Gyus, dont blame Skinner that hard. It is unfair. It was the d-mans mistake. He did not kerp the blue line. That you stick to one detail tells all on your thinking on the game. Thats not like a player thinks , but after game critic wiseguy. There were more than 5 other chances that could have changed the match result.
Home ice? Exactly. This is why we say home ice comes in handy, game 7 at home. I kinda figured it would play out like that. It's not so bad, Maurice finally gets 1 well deserved, honestly. Great series, first cup for FlorEda Panthers. Mc David gets a CS, check and the experience will serve the club well. I expect Oilers-Leafs final next year. Peace ✌️ 😎.
Don't make fun of team traditions.. Especially Fan Traditions. Bad Take and the McDavid drool is crazy... Barkov was the better player this WHOLE series. McDavid not going on out to the the Conn Smythe is perfectly acceptable. This is Hockey, shows grit and what I love about the sport.
They didn't used to give the Conn Smythe on the ice. Look up when Ziegler presented Billy Smith the trophy after the Islanders beat Edmonton in 1983. It was in the studio. I'm old enough to remember when Reggie Leach won and I saw the last game of the finals. All it was was the TV announcer saying, "The Conn Smythe trophy has been awarded to Reggie Leach." This is a whole bullshit issue and not even a real story and, believe me, no one south of the Canadian border cares, not even hockey fans. This is purely a Canadian masturbation over nothing. Also, the league president also used to just turn the cup over to the captain of the winning team. No stupid presentation speech. That started with Bettman.
Part of me is glad Canada didn't get a Cup and part of me wants them to have one just so they can stop crying about it (which won't happen). These guys need to cover the American teams the way they do Toronto lol.
@@ArniePorter Well they may learn a thing or two, including you, about players in the league. Won't have to learn about Janmark, Ekblad, Barkov in the finals lol. . . I really like listening to you guys as a listener from FL but do you really need to be so salty about any team in the states winning. Finding anything to complain about like traditions and fans is pathetic. Complain about the team that lost and couldn’t get it done and not the one who won it all. @@apparitionight I agree it’s been a while but these teams aren’t competing for countries. They are competing as sports teams in a league. Canadians playing on both teams. @@Crab_13 Fans from what other franchises, though? Funny fact, Lord Stanley is in my father’s family tree. The Stanley Cup has been around for over a century. Just so happens the year 1993 coincides with the year Bettman came from NBA to the NHL. Caps and lockouts (complete seasons) are also part of history. And there’s a lot of people who banter about the history, statistics, culture, and superstitions. Also hockey is a bit further down in popularity in pro sports in USA than it is in Canada, (or some other countries). Fans don’t have to be geographical. Fans who buy season’s tickets are usually local. Canadian markets bring a lot of revenue to hockey. Not sporadic. Breaking into the south and other markets world wide helps the owners and the players’ salaries. Players are the ones who risk their lives/bodies for pro sports careers. Of course hockey is a lot more international and widespread. Getting players interested as young kids/fans to play the game is also important. When I was kid winters were all about hockey and other times of the year we’d play outside or in the gym. I doubt you’re gonna see many street hockey games in Vegas. Back in 2010 downtown Vancouver when we were at the Winter Olympics? There were countless street hockey games right in the downtown outdoor street mall. So history and culture may be different in the Jupiter/Miami area. I’m happy a Finn captain hoisted the cup. Happy for the coach who’s been at for decades. (You get the pic, it means different things to all)

I agree Thank God Florida won
"so if i can have one thing more, it be for the Winnipeg Jets to win the next Stanley Cup"- Paul Maurice.
Well said!
It's a sore loser move not to accept the award, they should've done more to win. Stop babying grown men
@@tami3456 lol, ok tami.
Completely agree.
100%
barkov was the best player.
Shh you cant say that only him for beating a scoring record (in blowout games)
McDavid only started getting some points after Barkov got elbowed in the head and once he was better, McDavid was held pointless. It still make sense that McDavid won the Smythe, people love big beautiful stats.
Wait till we see 2 Canadian teams playing in the stanley cup. Then these homers gonna complain us Americans arent watching 😂😢
Kyper and John Scott need a show where they just pronounce Euro Hockey Player's names.
Sam only cares about the conn smythe because it's covered with leafs
Yeah Conn Smythe is the only leaf that is going to get anywhere near close to it in the future . I don't think it has ever been won by a guy who only plays in the first round - but if it was Toronto of course would insist it is theirs
Very classless for Connor to not go out and get that trophy. My giggy did it in 2003... respect him 100% for doing that.
just like to say usually the better team wins. can't be the better team if you lose.
The vote was almost unanimous (1 vote for someone other than McDavid). And the Panther leading for this was Bobrovsky, not Barkov.
@@aleung7248 Barkov was actually the leading Panther and 2nd in voting, Forsling was 3rd. One first place vote for Bob doesn't mean he finished 2nd in voting..also I said the voters are idiots - so idiots voting unanimously is supposed to mean something?
@@Julio-v1c if you have an issue with the voting, take it up with the sports writers who voted. Or go listen to Chris Johnston's response to those who disagreed with him voting for McDavid. It's done. I no longer care.
Stupidest tradition is the rubber rats? Stupidest tradition is the Toronto Maple Leafs NEVER doing anything! LOL!!!!!!!!

But wouldn't that make it the best? 🤔🫨
Such low hanging fruit.
skinner was fine. reinhart's goal was a knuckle puck with draisatl stick check truly effecting the shot. it was very difficult to read
JB raises a phenomenal point...award the connsmythe at the award ceremony
sid was like 21 yrs old, played a solid game 7 with his fellow kid teammates vs one of the greatest dynasties in NHL history in the red wings. back to back cup appearances. completely different contexts to mcdavid being almost 10 years into his career
......
What a game. Have a good summer guys see you in the fall.
Kippers cool but these other two are clowns.
It was announced today - in the cup finals - McDavid played with an abdominal injury that requires surgery, Draisatl played with a broken rib and broken finger - these are serious, limiting injuries
FANTASTIC WIN for the Panthers Stanley Cup Champions
Sammy's inner 12 year-old is showing
Imagine being a Panthers core player and you get traded during the draft and the parade is two days after. I get why it ended so late and the extra days off allowed for better rest for players, so I'm glad for that.
yeah it made for a better finals series overall - McDavid looked like he was refugee by the end of the playoffs - he plays probably 28-30 minutes / game . Knoblach found out how to be a genius coach - he says - 97 are you ready to go out again !! thats it
Rats are stupid okay bud lol
These three sound so salty. Better team won. Deal with it. 🐀🐀🐀
At my wit’s end with nhl media. As a panthers fan I love watching this show. But then you go and say game 7 was all about mcdavid. Then you say if barkov was in Canada, he’d have a statute finished. How about don’t make a franchises first cup about a LOSER
The Oil needed to split the 2 games at the beginning of the series to win Mr. Stanley .All the best hockey fans .
3:41 Cope and Seethe
Bourneys facial hair and hair cut on point!
Christ all mighty bud. Stupidest tradition?

A team throws octopus - cool

Come onnn.
Guys I’ve reached my breaking point at 31 years of no cup in this country. 😤
Panthers won the CUP so the would could should’ve don’t matter. Not to mention cats 1st cup
4:00 - come on, Sammy. Connor felt what Tkachuk felt last season. And he’s gonna come back stronger than ever.
Where the hell are all the people here? what Edmonton loses then all the seagulls fly north locking themselves up in their poor me human mental horizon..
This is the problem with people today especially men who all get offended or upset when things don't go their way like a bunch of whining babies.. Fukn Jokes..
Tizz it Dizz ..
Trust the truth always then make a stand up for it..
Con Smythe needs to be handed out at the Awards Ceremony. Even Stevie Wonder can See giving it away on the ice is a bad look for all.
There was no chance in hell mcdavid was coming back out to the ice
Sammy.....The reason he wasn't there for the presentation of the trophy, is because he was with his teammates. He refused to be present to receive an individual trophy, because he had to be with guys that he just lost with. Its his job as the captain to put the team first and be there for them after a devastating loss. If anything, it was pure class, and it clearly showed that the members of the Edmonton Oilers are his top priority.
The reason everything is so tight is due to espn who you guys said we should sign a tv deal with 😂
If McDavid does not need Conn Smythe why not give it to Bobrovsky? I agree: McDavid did not deliver when it was most needed, whereas Bob, on the contrary, delivered when it was most needed. That's the difference.
Sammy literally has the worst takes of all time lmao
42:09 taking about oilers roster for next year dont forget they are already mins $3m of cap hit for overage from this year
Florida scored more goals and won. How were they not better? 😂
I respect Connor for not going to get the Conn Smythe after losing.
Yeah, I still remember JS Giguere going out to get it. That was hard to watch, and I don't think players should be forced to do that.
Remember this Guy's 1 SNIFF , NEVER another for SkinNBones and his Coilers
Canada is like the Knicks?😂 is it stupid when Detroit throws octopus on the ice?
Volume?????
Connor McNoshow could not accept the trophy because he knows he did little in the Stanley cup final. Game 1 Noshow, Game 2 Noshow, Game 3 Noshow, Game 4 Noshow until game was over, Game 5 FINALLY shows up, Game 6 Noshow, and Game 7 Noshow. A bunch of No names and a rookie starting goalie are the only reason Edmonton did not go out in 4 games.Give the Conn Smyth to one of the No names or Skinner they came to play and exceeded expectations.
This shows a lack of understanding of hockey.
@@dvandyke84 Obviously a Noshow response.
Interesting that Maurice has no faith in the team winning again next year. Let's hope for a Vancouver/Winnipeg matchup next year for the playoffs before they meet the Oilers then.
I guess for now is to be continuing!
Maybe he didn't come out to not take the focus off the panthers moment.
When did they stop going into the dressing room to see the guys partying and being sprayed with Champagne and the interviews were better there.
Everytime I watch this show sam has the worst takes I’ve ever heard every time. There’s being a Homer then there’s just whatever he is.
Again no mention of Bouchard's gaffes? Teflon Evan.
For once I disagree with Sam, I am 100% ok with McDavid not coming out for the Conn Smythe.
Saw this elsewhere. Flames fans happy for Tkachuk is like cheering for your Ex who dumped you when they get married to someone way better.
Part of me is glad Canada didn't get a Cup and part of me wants them to have one just so they can stop crying about it (which won't happen). These guys need to cover the American teams the way they do Toronto lol.
Why would they cover American teams? They’re based in Toronto and it’s a Canadian show. There’s ESPN, TNT and the NHL Network covering the US teams.
@@ArniePorter Well they may learn a thing or two, including you, about players in the league. Won't have to learn about Janmark, Ekblad, Barkov in the finals lol. . . "there's ESPN, TNT and the NHL" and no one asked you about it lol.
You guys never look at it from a "good for hockey" perspective. Just selfish hosers.
I really like listening to you guys as a listener from FL but do you really need to be so salty about any team in the states winning. Finding anything to complain about like traditions and fans is pathetic. Complain about the team that lost and couldn’t get it done and not the one who won it all. Leave the fans out of the conversation. P.S. Love throwing rats on the ice!
1993 last cup for the country is a few years
@@apparitionight I agree it’s been a while but these teams aren’t competing for countries. They are competing as sports teams in a league. Canadians playing on both teams. When Vegas won last year I don’t think fans from other franchises were saying thank god the cup stayed in the United States. They were upset their team didn’t win.
