I’m a 50/50 split. The iPad Mini 6 is small enough to comfortability like a big iPhone. I just think a keyboard would be too cramped. I tried the keyboard for the 11” iPad and had trouble with comfortability for example. Can’t imagine a smaller keyboard than that.
I have a Logitech Keys-to-go wireless kb for my AppleTV. If I am on the go and taking my iPad mini 6...if (a really big if) I need a kb I just bring that. It is very thin and near the size of the mini 6. Nay to anything else lol.
Nay for me, I’ve tried other small keyboards, they’re just too small for comfortable typing… the 11” iPad with keyboard is the perfect size imho. (I use my 11” iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard every day)
I would prefer the regular apple folio keyboard. I have it for my ipad air now and I just can't get past not being able to flip the keyboard around to the back of the device when not in use. If you were to take notes or read in portrait you'd have to leave the keyboard off and I think that'd get annoying.
As someone who is heavily invested in the apple ecosystem (M1 MBP 13, iPad mini 6, iPhone 12, AW 7) I could live with having a windows laptop or desktop, android phone, and a random watch, but I would never choose another tablet over the iPad Mini 6.
Hi, thanks for your comment. I have an iPad 12.9, but I can not use it at work to take notes, since it is too big and not practical. Do. You think I pad mini could do the job or you suggest iPad Air?
I am not invested into the Apple ecosystem at all, but I agree, there is absolutely no alternative to the iPad Mini 6, while there are plenty of powerful and premium Windows laptops and Android phones
First time I saw the iPad 10th gen, I knew that I was going to get it. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA Having done that, I have no regrets whatsoever. The battery life is superb, the landscape camera is a winner for me, the shape is suitable for my carrying case. As part of my purchase, I threw in a case from ESR, and a Logitech Crayon to compliment my purchase. So far so good on my iPad. The Logitech Crayon works perfectly with it as well.
I use my ipad mini 6 primarily for note taking during my classes. It's very handy and small. Sometimes I find the screen real estate too small, but it's portability and lightweight design make up for it because I value the convenience when traveling to and from places.
Since getting the iPad Mini 6, my 12.9” Pro has stayed in the drawer (used mostly for field work). I,work from home now and the Mini is easier to take notes on and all it’s other useful features, plus it fits under my monitor while still being able to use it. Works well for watching UA-cam or reading in bed.
My son has a 12.9 pro and a magic keyboard. All cost over £2k and weighs more than my MacBook Pro 13…or at least it feels like it. I use an old mini 2 for kindle and consumption and a 10.5 pro with either a Smart Keyboard as it’s very light or the brilliant Logitech Combo Touch for serious stuff such as conference notes where I use an Apple Pencil too either into OneNote or Apple notes. OneNote has the advantage of easy sharing between Apple and Microsoft devices.
@@davidbell4949 if you have an iPhone just use it as a personal hotspot, save money on the iPad and definitely save money on the network charges. I’m pretty lucky that my 13 pro phone and provider give me 5G and a decent data package so I would not buy a cellular iPad.
I have the 12.9” M1 and got the 6th gen mini because I didn’t want to carry around the larger pro. My biggest issue with the mini is that the screen doesn’t get bright enough. I think the screen is too small at this point as well. I’ve found myself picking up this 7th gen iPad more than the mini (due to my work I seem to get my hands on a lot of regular iPads lol)
I totally agree with you about the keyboard issue. That's the primary reason why I've held off on buying the iPad mini 6. I'm torn between getting the mini and a regular iPad because I want the keyboard. I'll probably have to just get one of the 3rd party ones and make do with that for the mini. Another reason I held off is because I WANT to use the tablet for taking notes and I had no idea about the Paperlike Screen Protectors. That changes everything. Thanks for the info!
So I just bought the iPad mini 6 again. I don’t take notes. I do love the portability but I’m so use to using my iPad Pro 11 with my magic keyboard case. I wish the mini 6 had Face ID. I also wish scaling was better. I think I’m once again I’m going to return it and just stick with my 2018 Pro 11 inch. I wanted to love this but it’s not just for me anymore. My favor iPad was my iPad mini 2 when it first came out.
I'm using a 12.9" Apple iPad Pro with Goodnotes and the Apple Folio. (not the popular Apple keyboard). Reasons, it's water resistant and easy to clean. It takes some getting used to when you type on it, but I love it now. The only occasional issue is that a few times (rarely) it slips off (typically when I'm laying down or some odd position of sorts). But it's more than $100 less and slimmer than the more popular Apple keyboard. It's so slim it amazes me that the keyboard is included. Does need to be cleaned, but with some water and a soft cloth, it only takes a minute.
I love my iPad Mini 6. It's the iPad I travel with along with an apple pencil 2 and air pods 3, as I can play games, watch movies, read eBooks, and take notes, etc. The iPad Mini's size and form factor makes it ideal for note taking, and I prefer to use a pencil with it over a keyboard. I also have a M1 12.9-inch iPad Pro with magic keyboard, and primarily use the iPad Pro with its keyboard, and then use the iPad mini alongside the Pro for taking handwritten notes when researching, and then type documents on my iPad Pro. I am not a great fan of screen protectors, especially matt finish protectors, as they cause blurring of the screen image, which becomes more noticeable as the protector wears and gets more scratched. I've also found the touch display is slightly less responsive when a screen protector is used. I always keep my iPads in protective cases when not in use or when carried around, clean the display with a microfibre cloth, and have never experienced any problems with the iPad display becoming scratched. The only device I ever fitted a screen protector to, was my Nintendo Switch because its display cover is plastic and susceptible to adverse wear through touch screen interactions.
I recently got a magic keyboard for my Air 5, and to be honest… I wouldn’t want it any smaller. And although the Air 5, pencil and magic keyboard is gorgeous to use, it’s replaced a lot of tasks on my Mac; I sit here watching your video, and scrolling through others, on my Mini 5 - which is always on hand and will suffice while I dream for the unicorn of a Mini Pro🙏.
I've got ipad pro 2017 that still does everything for me that i need it to do, but since i now have a laptop that's not a pain to use, once my old ipad dies i will definitely move to the mini for the compactness.
I regularly use my Mini for iOS music production. It’s just SO powerful and really gives the iPad Pro a run for its money in that regard. Do you think Apple will release a revised Mini this year or next with an M1 chip?
IMO, I think an iPad mini with an M chip series is not possible (yet). The chip won't cool that great on such a small form factor and in consequence it would thermal throttle. Even if it's possible it might won't ever come true due to the type of costumers the iPad mini is focused on.
The lack of a magic keyboard for the iPad mini 6 is pretty much the only reason I have an iPad Air 5 as well; I use the Air 5 for writing and the mini 6 for literally everything else, but I’d love a magic keyboard for the mini. Heck, I’d take a Bluetooth keyboard case from Logitech or Zagg like make for other, larger iPads.
The iOS is part of the problem with the on screen keyboard. It pops up and covers what you’re writing. In the larger iPads the content is moved when the on screen keyboard is used, so that fields you are typing in are visible. Typing with iPad mini in landscape is super annoying.
I've still not got the hang of writing notes on an iPad as I find typing much quicker, and importantly more readable. Having recently bought an Apple Pencil to go with my iPad Mini 6 I've been disappointed about the number of times the hand writing to text gets it wrong. I've got a version 1 reMarkable which I used for marking up notes on PDF articles and books whilst studying for a MA as it was so much easier on my eyes for reading than the glow of an iPad.
And clear diction voice to type is even quicker. Works for me with word, OneNote etc. as a Uni lecturer I often have to give quick but quite detailed feedback to students into templates and voice to type saves me lots of time. There are odd errors as the AI learns your voice but it’s still excellent.
A couple of years ago, while studying, I had the original Surface Go with keyboard and pen; got a great deal on it. As a student, this was a great device with the MS Office suite and OneNote. It’s nowhere near as powerful or versatile as an ipad but it’s a great device for a windows user. A 64gb iPad Air, keyboard and pen costs around £950, a 64 gb Surface Go keyboard and mouse cost a little over £600.
At my work we did a comparison exercise on the different touch screen tech available in about 2015. The top portable device for consumption was the iPad Air2. Mine still works well every day for reading and news etc. However the top functional and production orientated device was the Surface Pro 2. A year later they gave me the trial kit = 8/256gb, i5 and keyboard. It still works fine with W10 Pro and its pen. I take it as a light cheap, no to bothered if seen using it in coffee shops and overseas conferences device. Clearly it’s battery life is nowhere near an Air2 but in 95% of occasions it is fine. Old stuff can still be useful. A bit like me on a good day then….
I use a iPhone SE and a iPad mini I use the pen and one note as part of my job as a Support worker. I have a surface pro but nothing comes close to the useable and handy form
I recently bought the iPad mini with cellular support. I’m really enjoying it. My previous iPad was a 12.9” iPad Pro (2nd gen), which I enjoyed but was far too big. I can still do most things that the Pro did previously, including drawing and reading but the mini is far easier to slip in a big pocket and take out with me. I don’t love the volume button positioning but will probably get use to it.
I've had my mini for a few months now and its in my small sling all day every day. I use it for notes,media,entertainment,gaming,editing...on and on. With the wireless service it has just about eliminated my need for a phone.
I just got an iPad Mini 6 last week and LOVE it! Appreciate your videos about it bc they definitely helped me to purchase it. The portability and fun form factor is incredible. Thank you 🙏
Main downside to the magic keyboard is weight and battery drain (have it for the 11” Pro and it weights as much or more than the iPad - for obvious reasons but still worth mentioning as a main draw of the iPad is how thin and light it is, yet powerful) Still a great accessory and well made. Hope they can sort the battery drain issue out that a few of us have seen. It should draw no power when the iPad is sleeping but it seems to drain nearly 10% overnight compared to 0-1% without the magic KB attached. No issue with the smart folio keyboard or regular cases that I also own. I’d use a magic KB on a Mini but not sure it would have mass market appeal
I agree with you Daniel. I have the 12.9" Pro and the battery drain with the Magic keyboard attached is what you describe. It's crazy how much battery power is lost when it's just on standby.
The only complaint I have with the Mini 6 iPad is not the device itself, but the Apple Folio. My wife and I both have the Mini 6 with the Pencil2. My wife bought hers with the Apple Folio as well. I held off on the folio at the time of purchase and I'm glad I did. The Apple Folio does not protect the pencil and its constantly getting bumped/knocked off of my wife's iPad. Seeing this, I opted for a 3rd party case which has a slot that encases the pencil yet allows it to still charge just as if the pencil was "attached" directly to the side of the iPad. More importantly the case protects the corners of the iPad which the Apple Folio doesn't. Oh, and its less costly as well...
I have no need for an iPad mini keyboard, as the Mini I use purely as a tablet - a lot for social media and consumption, but also as a sidekick to my 12.9” iPad Pro for work, using for, note taking, reference or to take video call while I am using my iPad Pro for work as substitute for laptop computer. I have been 99% iPad for more than 5 years, often not touching my iMac all month.
I actually find the floating keyboard on my Apple Mini to be really easy to type on (or swipe more accurately). I can 'swipe' more quickly than I can handwrite or even type. My favorite thing to do is have my Kindle app on the left side and Drafts note on the right side split-screen style, and while I am reading I can take notes on the right side with the floating keyboard.
Love my ipad mini. I use this a lot more than my older gen pro model. Once that goes out, I’ll get a cheaper 300 model for the very little uses. But the mini IMAP’s fantastic
I use my iPad mini as my EDC sketchbook and journal these days. I just purchased a tiny folding keyboard that I hope to use with my iPad because I don't want the extra weight of the magic keyboard when I carry this around.
Have iPad Pro with magic keyboard and got mini to take notes because I hated taking my iPad out of the case to use the pen, love magic keyboard but not being able to have it flat makes it no go for mini
You can always buy a magnetic matte screen protector and remove it when you don’t need it and put it back on when you want. That’s what I do with my mini and pro. Just look it up on Amazon.
I have the Remarkable and iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard. The Remarkable was a gift and since I was an early user, I have the cloud features at no cost. The biggest advantages of the Remarkable are that it is light weight, has a long battery life and is a comfortable writer. And, yes, it is too expensive for what it does. A $300 price tag for tablet and pencil would be more like. That said, It does what it does well. It backs up well to the IOS app, as well as Google Drive. You can also email notes as pdfs from the device. As for the Mini, it is also a lot money if all you want to do is take notes. Otherwise, I would move right up to the iPad Air. Once you start to add keyboards and the like all of this gets expensive in a hurry.
My iPad Pro 11 is used daily for note 📝 taking, journaling, work tasks and general doodles. I couldn’t be without it! I’ve lived the multi-iPad lifestyle before but not currently. Maybe 🤔 I need a mini 😂
Yeah, I have similar thoughts. I don't really use mine my note-taking but thinking of trying to leverage it more than tasks like that and use a keyboard and the mouse more. The mini is intriguing. I've only ever had a single iPad (desktop, laptop, iPad, iPhone and Watch) but it's definitely interesting to hear how multi-iPad users make it work.
Like that name drop. Love the Apple Insider Podcast. Steve and William (and Wes) are rockstars. Steven mentioned you; guess in reference to this video.
I agree with an iPad mini 6 magic keyboard. I recently got the iPad 6 and I’m loving the convenience and portability of it. Adding an Apple magic keyboard would just be Chef’s kiss. Keep up the good review, Mark Ellis 👍🏽
Main reason I imagine Apple may be against it is mass market appeal….Do they think enough mini owners will by it I would be intrigued to know how many Air owners actually have one - is it in demand or does it just have it by chance because the iPad Pro 11 exists
Can you try TypeCase iPad Mini 6 Keyboard? The lack of keyboard makes me rarely use iPad mini 6 actually, and gravitate towards my 12.9 pro with magic keyboard.
Mini or Air, which one would be better. Use case - Reading pdf books, browsing technology/ software programming related websites ( a lot :) ) and taking notes , Udemy/ LinkedIn online courses
If your going to use the iPad at home mainly then I would say the Air but if you want to take it out I would say the mini. With the mini you could use it everywhere.
I'm just after getting a speced out Macbook Pro M1 so that's me done with Apple purchases for awhile but the iPad Mini is definitely on my hit list, perfect for the Macbook user who doesn't need a large iPad (because he already has a large screen on the Macbook) but needs the extra portability for note taking and easy access. Hopefully we'll see a heavy discount by Amazon on Prime Day in June or July
I‘d just wish scribble would be fixed in so many apps like notion and craft to the point that a keyboard truely isn’t needed. In english, german … all languages. To me this feels most natural on this device and I think it could yield an experience surpassing keyboard given that portability
I think as I already have a magic keyboard in my iPad 11 I probably would not want to spend the money on one for the mini. But if I just had the mini? Oh yes please. As to the keys being too small? Nah. Remember the Psion 5? For the older folk who do it was very easy to type on. And that was much smaller than the mini.
I have both the iPad M1 pro 11” and the iPad mini 6. The M1 pro is my main computer device. But the mini 6, is my everything else device. I use the mini 6 for note taking organising my ADHD brain. (Very poor short term memory) internet browsing, gaming and reading. Probably a lot of other things too. I’m am still undecided on a magic keyboard for the mini though, as it would be very small (obviously), but where i use it i tend to mainly just use scribble. If i was given one who know i may change my mind. I’m just don’t know if i like the idea of changing the whole way i use it. Each to their own as always though, but for me. iPad mini 6 = no external keyboard. I do love both iPads and would not get rid of them.
I completely agree with the magic keyboard. They say it's because it will be to small. Yet we have to use the keyboard that is on screen. And yet we happily do so I'm sure iPad mini users would not find this an issue but more of a complete full satisfaction with the form factor. Personally I believe apple are not going this as this will completely kill the iPad pro users as the hardware is more then we really need. I mean you can edit full videos on this thing in 4k RAW plus connect SSD Drive so what's the need for the iPad pro. I'll tell you. The hope that one day we will get premier pro. Comment if I'm wrong here
Mark, I need your help, I am about to upgrade to a mini 6 BUT cannot see a Product Red case. Is the Electric Orange one a fairly close match? Please advise
I use my mini 6 exclusively for gaming and it's incredible for it. I'm able to run Genshin Impact maxed out at a consistent 60 fps with barely any fps drops. Honestly I feel like it might be the best tablet for gaming at the moment simply because of the combination of power and comfortability while gaming
I love the RM2 but I have free Connect services as a early buyer. I only use it for reading PDF documents and notetaking and annotation. You dont need Connect for this functions. Connect however is convinient and adds handy functions. It are however extra's and without it you can use it as advertised originaly. The device is maybe extensive but its better for notetaking than iPads. Using an iPad for notetaking you can't use it for other things... it will get hotter and that gives me sweaty hands and it gets irritating after some time. Furthermore it feels like hard plastic on glass... I love my iPad Mini 6 very much and use the pencil for the occasional jot but Its a better compact tablet.
I would probably get a keyboard for my Mini, not because I want to write anything substantial on it, but because I occasionally want to put a caption on a photo or a brief written explanation in a graphic document. The onscreen keyboard is pretty good, but nowhere near as useful as a physical keyboard.
I’ve got a Brydge keyboard for my mini 5, and while it’s pretty good for what you want, the major pro is that it’s effectively an infinitely adjustable kickstand as it turns the tablet into a pseudo net book
I‘d just wish scribble would be fixed in so many apps like notion and craft to the point that a keyboard truely isn’t needed. In english, german … all languages. That’s the idea behind the iPad mini pairing so well with the pen, isn’t it?
Is paperlike anti glare? Will it cut all the glare out? Ive held back from ipads as the screen reflective glare makes it impossible to use outdoors in sun (i live on an island) so im on the beach 80% of my life
I had an iPad Pro 12" with Apple keyboard and ended up giving it away. It is an amazing bit of kit, but is totally hamstrung by iPadOS. I may get another some time, but won't bother with a keyboard for it. I will just use my 14" MacBook Pro for that sort of thing and use the iPad as a very luxurious media consumption device. Just as an aside, I DO still use my MacBook 12" - similar size and weight to the iPad Pro with keyboard, running a proper OS and doesn't have a constantly greasy screen. Such a shame it never caught on, I love mine even now.
Agree with the MacBook 12". I briefly had one but took it back because it wasn't powerful enough for me and got a MacBook Pro 13". Now I've upgraded the 13" to a 16" which is great for serious work but too big for casual use or to just slip in a bag. I would buy an M1(or greater) 12" now if I could. A 12" paired with an iPad mini as a second screen would be great.
Zagg made a keyboard case for the older Ipad mini's and it was great. It had the whole package. But sadly they have not made one yet for the new one. I would settle for a smart folio so you could swing it around and do handwritten notes and use it as a media consumption tool, then flip back to do some typing!
Agreed!! I love using my magic keyboard on my iPad Pro 11” the only draw back for me is that the keyboard just drains my battery power a lot. Even though it does that I always keep my iPad Pro attached to the keyboard. 😝
I noticed this right away. If you want 100% battery the next day you need to leave it on charge overnight or disconnect it from the magic keyboard case until morning. I was surprised how quickly it drains it when in sleep. The iPad Pro still has decent battery life with it attached, just not as good as with the smart folio keyboard / no keyboard
I am a fellow youtuber with my own small channel and also an Ipad Mini 6 usar.. and I also use the Logitech Keyboard (key to go) as you are doing. I am ok this way still it could have been awesome to have some keyboard from Apple. This said your channel is amazing and I am a happy subscriber of yours 🙏
There’s quite a lot of features missing from the iPad mini, not just a Magic Keyboard. It’s missing Apple Pay, Apple Watch support, a better camera, Face ID and for me, the most important, a dedicated whatsapp app. All those are dealbreakers for me. IF it had those, I’d ditch my iPhone and just use the IPad Mini for everything 24/7
I think Universal Control might be the nail in the coffin for a Magic Keyboard for iPad mini. If you really think you're going to be productive on an iPad, just get one of the larger ones. If you really need to type on your iPad mini, stand it up on your desk next to your Mac and use the peripherals on your desk through Universal Control. A Magic Keyboard for the mini would probably be cool, but I think Apple knows the market for it just isn't there.
Yes. The optimum trade off between size, weight and UC is almost certainly either the new Air or 11in iPad Pro. My son has the largest and most costly iPad a 12in 2Tb with mobile data chip plus the magic keyboard. It’s crazy expensive and very heavy. He’s a pro computer guy so uses all the power of that, but recently bough an MBP13 on a great deal (£900 in U.K.) - not sure why - as he sings the praises of his 12 in iPad. His wife has the last laugh as she got his cast off 10.5 in pro with the great Logitech touch combo keyboard. I use that set up as does my daughter who’s a doctor. She takes the iPad to meetings and conferences and uses it with her new iMac 24in which for her is a superb tool for writing papers and creating teaching material for her new students. Together with her iPhone mini 12 she’s an Apple convert too. Her phone and iPad are off to Australia for a few week as the iPad is light and great for films etc. the older 10.5 has fantastic stereo speakers - much clearer than the new Air.
Hi! New to your channel for the share-liking to the ipad mini, China has this amazing keyboard case for mini, F22 wings. It works perfectly, but I will say the magnet case is just not that strong like Apples folio cases.
I've always wanted to get the ipad mini, but I'm so confused. How do you find the iPad mini for sketching and watching movies? Would you recommend it over the regular size?
For me the 11” iPad Pro / the Air / a surface Go tablet are all the ideal size. The 12.9” iPad Pro suffers the same issue a Surface Pro does, a bit too big and unweildy as a pure tablet. I think the mini would work really well if you want it mostly to use as a tablet. Great size for portable consumption and you can always dock it or get a BT keyboard
pretty great for media and Procreate. And light editing on Lumafusion. The fact i could use it while in bed is much better than holding the 12.9 Pro model. Of course the other one has better screen, much brighter bigger and louder speakers. Portability, nothing beats the Mini abd performance wise, it is fast and no issues at all.
Could not agree more - please Apple add a smart connector & a magic keyboard to gen 2… (and in the meantime - hello Logitech… seems like a considerable market to have a good quality bluetooth keyboard case for it… Have been using mine for a 2-week trip as my only device, with a stand, mx keys and mx anywhere mouse… a decent keyboard case would have been so much more convenient…
This iPad mini isn’t only the best mini but overall the best tablet ever ( at least until the m1 iPads get the iOS they deserve). Please Apple make a keyboard case 🙏🏼🙏🏼🥺🥺.
I think if I wanted a keyboard and iPad setup, I'd use a larger iPad. I use my Mini a LOT, but entirely as a highly portable web/reddit/youtube/audible consumption device where no keyboard is needed or wanted.
New subscriber here! Great review Mark. I've been considering downsizing from my iPad Pro 11" for a while as I mainly only use my iPad for handwritten notes and the occasional email/media consumption...but a keyboard/mouse option would seal the deal for me. I think you just gave me the push I need!
I love my mini which became my main every day driver (even over my MBA), paired with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse. I am planning on getting the regular bluetooth Apple Magic Keyboard (the one with the lightening cable) for the best typing experience with a low price and light weight. I wouldn’t buy an Apple iPad Magic Keyboard Cover for the mini because the quality is too low for such high price.
I feel Casey is sometimes posting just for the sake of posting to remain relevant. IMO - a smart keyboard for the ipad mini 6 would be way too small, I mean look at the 11'' smart keyboard, its already small enough and sometimes uncomfortable for many people.. can you imagine a scaled one for the ipad mini 6? Doubt it would work let alone sell enough for apple to make it. Your solution with the BT keyboard works perfectly tho
HUGE feature.. a keyboard.. and this logitech super thin keyboard is for sure far to be good to type on. This video sorry to say, sounds like a merchandising spot for products and had nothing to do with a real user review. Amazing.. SuPPERB.. incredible.. and the BeautIFUL apple case doesn´t seem to protect anything more than from scratches.. the bottom and top of the mini are not protected at all :/ The video quality is top notch, but the content.. the content.
Another fantastic video, sir! Love your approach to any topic. Your previous iPad mini 6 videos solidified my very recent purchase of this wonderful little machine. Coming from a mini 2, I’m enamored with the form factor, ease of use and potential to be a truly separate experience from my iPhone 13 pro. Oh and it’s now the impetus of my full dive into the Apple ecosystem. Cheers!
You/Casey are 100% right - it needs an Apple keyboard. My solution was to buy a refurbished Logitech Keys-To-Go, toss the keyboard in my junk box, and super glue the little plastic stand to my Magic Keyboard. The white-on-white looks great, it's still super slim and fits right in my purse. The Magic Keyboard is wide enough to be lap-able, which even a folio screen wouldn't be so even if Apple comes up with something, I'll probably stick with this jerry-rig :)
Would you be up for an iPad mini Magic Keyboard? Yay or nay?
Ten Yays for me
As someone who is heavily invested in the apple ecosystem (M1 MBP 13, iPad mini 6, iPhone 12, AW 7) I could live with having a windows laptop or desktop, android phone, and a random watch, but I would never choose another tablet over the iPad Mini 6.
I can’t decide between wi-fi or cellular.
Love that you kept that little Pencil snafu at 3:20.
Always.
LOL ur face at 3:19 when that pencil swings is almost cartoony :D
Bought an iPad Air. You were right about them. What's the point?
Sent it back. The Mini is just about perfect.
Nice!
I just don't like the exposed corners with apple ipad case. Prone to accidental bumps
I use a iPhone SE and a iPad mini I use the pen and one note as part of my job as a
Support worker. I have a surface pro but nothing comes close to the useable and handy form
i have 12.9 and mini 6, but i rarely use 12.9 for not taking anymore, mini is just more packable and handy for note taking.
I didn't like the Paperlike. Took it off. The screen was very difficult to see when outside.
I just got an iPad Mini 6 last week and LOVE it! Appreciate your videos about it bc they definitely helped me to purchase it. The portability and fun form factor is incredible. Thank you 🙏
Glad to be of service, Matthew :)
Main downside to the magic keyboard is weight and battery drain (have it for the 11” Pro and it weights as much or more than the iPad - for obvious reasons but still worth mentioning as a main draw of the iPad is how thin and light it is, yet powerful)
Still a great accessory and well made.
Great points.
Didn't know that about the keyboard, never see it mentioned in reviews regarding battery drain. Great to know before I'd buy one
I got a third party case off Amazon and amazed at the value / quality compared to Apple’s folio. Also, significantly less in cost.
Details🤔
I have no need for an iPad mini keyboard, as the Mini I use purely as a tablet - a lot for social media and consumption, but also as a sidekick to my 12.9” iPad Pro for work, using for, note taking, reference or to take video call while I am using my iPad Pro for work as substitute for laptop computer. I have been 99% iPad for more than 5 years, often not touching my iMac all month.
Definitely need to have a magic keyboard mini for the iPad mini 6
I actually find the floating keyboard on my Apple Mini to be really easy to type on (or swipe more accurately). I can 'swipe' more quickly than I can handwrite or even type. My favorite thing to do is have my Kindle app on the left side and Drafts note on the right side split-screen style, and while I am reading I can take notes on the right side with the floating keyboard.
Love my ipad mini. I use this a lot more than my older gen pro model. Once that goes out, I’ll get a cheaper 300 model for the very little uses. But the mini IMAP’s fantastic
The Brydges keyboard cover for the previous gen actually fits the Mini 6 unit
I use my iPad mini as my EDC sketchbook and journal these days. I just purchased a tiny folding keyboard that I hope to use with my iPad because I don't want the extra weight of the magic keyboard when I carry this around.
Can you put a link to the usb adapter you have put on your iPad
Have iPad Pro with magic keyboard and got mini to take notes because I hated taking my iPad out of the case to use the pen, love magic keyboard but not being able to have it flat makes it no go for mini
Keyboards are nice for lightroom too
Paperlike does help the writing experience but it does take away from the screen quality for other functions. Sticking with it though.
Epaper displays come from only two fabs, hence are VERY expensive
LOVE my Mini. Haven't used it for writing yet, but I do use it as a Sidecar screen (with the 13" MBA) when I'm working away from home/office.
Like that name drop. Love the Apple Insider Podcast. Steve and William (and Wes) are rockstars.
Steven mentioned you; guess in reference to this video.
Haha - they’re great guys.
I have an ipad pro 12.9 in (2018) considering trading it in for a mini 6. Is that a good idea? Really bothered with the size since i have an MBP.
Just purchased my iPad mini 6 a few weeks ago and have yet to find a flaw
I love mine . It’s like one those things u didn’t know u needed u til u have
Yes magic keyboard for iPad mini would be the thing ive always wanted !!!
Thanks
iPad mini plus the pencil is how much ?
I agree with an iPad mini 6 magic keyboard. I recently got the iPad 6 and I’m loving the convenience and portability of it.
Adding an Apple magic keyboard would just be Chef’s kiss. Keep up the good review, Mark Ellis 👍🏽
Main reason I imagine Apple may be against it is mass market appeal….Do they think enough mini owners will by it
I would be intrigued to know how many Air owners actually have one - is it in demand or does it just have it by chance because the iPad Pro 11 exists
Glad it's not just me!
Can you try TypeCase iPad Mini 6 Keyboard? The lack of keyboard makes me rarely use iPad mini 6 actually, and gravitate towards my 12.9 pro with magic keyboard.
not a problem if you already have a computer. the mini is great addition because I don't need a computer with me everywhere.
I want a mini pro with keyboard so I can use on external display
A 12" M1 (or greater) MacBook paired with an iPad mini as a second screen would be great.
I have both ipad air, ipad pro 12.9 and ipad mini… i love my ipad mini 6 very much.. i carry it anyway like my iphone… its really portable..
Yeay the Psion 5. i am 47.. old.. thank you :) But that was so much fun !
Calligraphy on an iPad? Pen personal greetings n letters? Original artworks n graphic novels? ❣️🔥❣️
How does the paper like screen protector affect watching media? I heard some people complain about the video quality when paper like is on.
Agree, 🍎 should make a magic keyboard for the iPad mini 6
It's not just me, then!
Get a Logitech mx mini keyboard for a top notch typing experience
A good keyboard would be great. Small, functional and not bulky. Great!
Zagg made a keyboard case for the older Ipad mini's and it was great. It had the whole package. But sadly they have not made one yet for the new one. I would settle for a smart folio so you could swing it around and do handwritten notes and use it as a media consumption tool, then flip back to do some typing!
Note taking on my mini is great.
I don't like paperlike. It blurs the screen
Zugu case best for it
Hi Mark with the paperlike screen protector does it wear down the apple pen tip?
A bit, but I don't know if it's much more than normal!
Great video! What writing/note-taking app do you use for the iPad Mini?
Thanks! Notability.
@@DanielHarrisCodes Thats why u always turn it off.
Hello !
Thanks for your video!
What is your recommendation for the note-taking app on iPad mini?
i was using Bear app till now
Thanks!
Fabrice
Thanks! Notability is great!
IF it had those, I’d ditch my iPhone and just use the IPad Mini for everything 24/7
exactly! it's so close to taking over the iphone space, unfortunately I dont see apple allowing that!
I'd recommend it personally. It's great for content consumption!
pretty great for media and Procreate. And light editing on Lumafusion. The fact i could use it while in bed is much better than holding the 12.9 Pro model. Of course the other one has better screen, much brighter bigger and louder speakers. Portability, nothing beats the Mini abd performance wise, it is fast and no issues at all.
It needs the Smart Connector and ProMotion
Could not agree more - please Apple add a smart connector & a magic keyboard to gen 2… (and in the meantime - hello Logitech… seems like a considerable market to have a good quality bluetooth keyboard case for it… Have been using mine for a 2-week trip as my only device, with a stand, mx keys and mx anywhere mouse… a decent keyboard case would have been so much more convenient…
Nice to know it's not just me!
This iPad mini isn’t only the best mini but overall the best tablet ever ( at least until the m1 iPads get the iOS they deserve). Please Apple make a keyboard case 🙏🏼🙏🏼🥺🥺.
Totally agree.
Once you get used to the form factor, it’s difficult to leave the mini!
🥃
I think if I wanted a keyboard and iPad setup, I'd use a larger iPad. I use my Mini a LOT, but entirely as a highly portable web/reddit/youtube/audible consumption device where no keyboard is needed or wanted.
New subscriber here! Great review Mark. I've been considering downsizing from my iPad Pro 11" for a while as I mainly only use my iPad for handwritten notes and the occasional email/media consumption...but a keyboard/mouse option would seal the deal for me. I think you just gave me the push I need!
Welcome onboard!
Would Iove to own the ipad mini 6 but the jelly scroll is so prominent and messes with my eyes. Shame.
The BT solution is great, but I really want a mini Magic Keyboard.
Cheers!
Thanks for the kind words, James!
James did you get the 64gb or 256gb. I'm in the fence between these two options.
@@KaReEdCa I got the 64gb due to mostly streaming/surfing over wifi. Not a big gamer or anything so size hasn’t been an issue.
Yes magic keyboard
Glad it's not just me!
My wish actually will be the MacBook Pro 12’’ but with LTE o 5G. For my type of street use. The iPad always is missing something.
The reMarkable looks very UNreMarkable to me
I will buy this ipad for gaming only :)
