How do you find the screen brightness of the mini in the field? I always wish it was brighter, even inside. But yeah, as a field scientist too I love these devices

So, should I go for the UPDATED mini now, or wait for the future optimistically possible UPGRADED mini with the OLED 120 Hz screen? Could you pls consider these points while you review it.
Of course I'll get the Mini 7th Gen! My present tablet is an iPad 5th gen, purchased in 2017. Apple no longer offers OS updates for it. I am not a trade up every year or two kind of guy. They will. I bought a Mini 6 Folio case from eBay for 25.00 Brand new and box fresh....Grab one before the vendors twig put the prices up when they realize they can be used in the 7!
Really interesting to see Apple promote Logic Pro on the iPad Mini's overview page. Some Logic Pro for iPad features either don't work well (ChromaGlow, Session Players) or are missing completely (Stem Splitter) from iPad models without an M series chipset. I'm curious to see if this new Mini can run the same Logic features as the M2 iPad Air.
I really look forward to your video blog when you have your new device in your hands. I am on the boundary on whether to buy it. I love my mini 6 and don’t really want to give it up.
I’m assuming no M chip means no monitor support and stage manager? Big blow for me if that is the case as I wanted a mini that can expand into desktop for best of both worlds. This is on top of other features such as a decent screen, not in any rush to buy will wait for reviews
The purchase really hinges on the performance of Apple AI. Unless there is something mind blowing about that, I’ll be sticking with my 6 until the battery goes kaput. Here’s hoping it and Siri have some big quality of life enhancements 🤞
May I ask what is the name of the iPad case for mini you are using at the video 41 second? I couldn’t find pitaka is making this triangle folio for iPad mini.
i'll definitely buy it, ever since my wife has taken my ipad mini 6, which is around a year ago, i have meaning to buy a new one, i was stalling because i heard rumors of a new one coming soon, now that its here, i am gonna get it as soon as it hits the stores, the blue one for sure.
I currently have a mini 6 and I’ll probably be upgrading to the mini 7 simply for the storage configuration. I brought the 64 gig so going to 128 is a plus for me. Also all the other upgrades that they put in to the mini 7 is a win. I don’t know what people were expecting. 🤷🏽♂️
I’m looking at upgrading my wife’s mini 4 so would it make sense to jump straight to the mini 7 or maybe save a few quid and wait for the mini 6 to hit the clearance shelf?
Do you think it will support stage manager and an external display? Guessing no as it’s not an M series chip? Thanks for the great and speedy content as always
@@AquilaTheHun yeah but screen mirroring isn’t a great experience. The M series chips in the air and the pro allow for a much more useful experience for my workflow. It would be great to have that functionality in the form factor of the mini
They do. When announced the 7, I bought a burnt orange folio case from a reliable vendor on eBay....paid 25.00! Arrived brand new and box fresh! Check there first before the vendors were up!
M1 iPad mini and I may have jumped on it. I just want to run simple video editing software (Davinci Resolve or some version of Final Cut) and better processing. I also haven't noticed any problems with the display, but an updated and improved display would've been nice. The keyboard also would've been a huge quality of life improvement beings this is meant for notetaking. It just feels like the same iPad but with a few upgraded specs that no one really would care about
I preordered as soon as it was announced as I haven’t had a iPad mini since the first one and I think now is the time to change to this one as the new AI stuff will be awesome 🤩 can’t wait
I was looking for a small tablet and didn't want to buy the old mini 6. And as there were no news about the upcoming new ipad mini, I've already decided to buy the Galaxy S9 (but haven't bought yet). I believe this is a sign) I really love the ipad mini's size but want the modern stuff in it
I would love to know the weight of the iPad Mini 7 compared to the 11" iPad Pro with the M4 processor. The size of the 11" iPad is easily manageable for me. Also, with my older eyes, the text is better sized on my iPad Pro is easier to see when reading notes for my conference call presentations. But knowing the weight comparison (in hand feel) would be important because I can see a use case to keep it in my EDC bag so that I have a note taking iPad.
It’s doubtful that I’ll be buying the Mini 7. I have the 6 and there’s just not enough more in the new model to warrant the expense. If it had Face ID I might have been more tempted to. I’ll be watching your next video to see what you think of the actual device. It’s interesting. Thanks.
Watching you on my iPad Mini 6, I like the idea of double the RAM & double the basic hard drive size. Will I be buying one……Mmmmmm NO…… If it had the A18 Chip, then maybe…..but still unlikely……I just wanted something more, it’s close so I’d guess it will boil down to Apple Intelligence and if that bring the added extra must have thing I was hoping for.
Apple should have installed a second rear camera lens on the IPad Mini so there would be either an ultrawide lens or a ultrazoom lens for video and photos. Other than the larger storage space there’s little reason to upgrade unless retail price is somewhat the same as in other countries (I’m in Asia). And Apple Intelligence potential has yet to be tested.
Why all the hand ringing over upgrading to the iPad Mini 7? I pulled the trigger immediately. I bought the 256K which cost $600 and got a $230 trade-in for my 64K iPad Mini 6 for an out of pocket $370. For me, that’s a bargain. I get a faster processor, four times the memory, a faster USB, Pencil Pro support, improved WiFi and Bluetooth and a brand new device.

I prefer having touchID in my iPad (rather than opening when I look at it and as a different security approach to my iPhone).screwn is fine on the 6th gen but better would have been good. What I'd really have really liked is wireless charging. And a camera for portrait and landscape use. Jelly roll has been a total non issue for me as I don't rapidly scroll up and down vigorously.

I have an iPad mini 6 which I love. I travel loads and it’s been my best companion. However, I also have the 2nd gen pencil, so if it’s not compatible with iPad mini 7 then I’ll have to reconsider. 64gb just isn’t enough storage in my 6.
I still use the mini For everything taking notes on the lab on the field as a scientist This is one of my most important tools… for reading papers, books… etc
How do you find the screen brightness of the mini in the field? I always wish it was brighter, even inside. But yeah, as a field scientist too I love these devices
Is there any chance iPad 11 comes out this year
I own a 11 inch M1 iPad Pro, but I find it a bit bulky. I have never used the camera or lidar till date, but screen quality is important to me. Would've preferred an oled screen and an M series chip, but it is what it is.
I've watched all your reviews on ipad mini 6 and have been considering this form factor. So, should I go for the UPDATED mini now, or wait for the future optimistically possible UPGRADED mini with the OLED 120 Hz screen? Could you pls consider these points while you review it.
Going to pre order mine.
Of course I'll get the Mini 7th Gen! My present tablet is an iPad 5th gen, purchased in 2017. Apple no longer offers OS updates for it. I am not a trade up every year or two kind of guy. I am opting for the Mini because of its size. I am NOT a gamer, I use a tablet for reading & writing. Please do what you can to let The Apple People know we want the Journal app to be CROSS-PLATFORM! Thank you!
I’d love to know if the old cases will work for this one. Especially the folio. I gave my gen 6 mini to my son but i still have the old folio case
They will. I bought a Mini 6 Folio case from eBay for 25.00 Brand new and box fresh....Grab one before the vendors twig put the prices up when they realize they can be used in the 7!
I might look into buying it, although I may go for the iPad Air
My iPad mini five is definitely starting to feel its age
I would like to know how it performs as a hand written note taker with Apple Pencil..
Any word on supporting stage manager when connecting to an external monitor? Not mirroring, but using as extended displays
Very lazy update. They even managed to put in last gen chip and reduce a gpu core, and not use the A18 chip🧐
It doesn’t look like you can have an extended display monitor like the M series iPad..that would’ve been a great buy for me
Really interesting to see Apple promote Logic Pro on the iPad Mini's overview page. Some Logic Pro for iPad features either don't work well (ChromaGlow, Session Players) or are missing completely (Stem Splitter) from iPad models without an M series chipset. I'm curious to see if this new Mini can run the same Logic features as the M2 iPad Air.
so excited I waited till Octber as you suggested 🤩
Tim Cook special. They take some OLD parts (A17 Pro, LCD 60Hz screen, etc) and use them in the iPad mini. No Promotion in 2024 is just not acceptable.
Here’s hoping it and Siri have some big quality of life enhancements 🤞
iPad mini or 11" Pro - it's so hard to decide
They could fix the jelly without upgrading the display because apparently the effect is due to the orientation of the display.
I’m looking at upgrading my wife’s mini 4 so would it make sense to jump straight to the mini 7 or maybe save a few quid and wait for the mini 6 to hit the clearance shelf?
If you find the mini 6 on clearance I would go for that. It’s still a great machine and will be receiving software updates into the future.
Apple have taken 90.00 off the price off the 256 gig to 459.00 on the Apple Refurbished.
Buy the mini 7 ignore the nay sayers. You want the most recent one to take you through the next years.
@@efrus66 I am upgrading from a mini 4 so getting mine next week!
Pro-motion is really good (ignoring android has if for years already) so without it you feel like year 2010, everything is fragmented
Is It Worth for portability and performance A17 vs m2 iPad Pro 2022? I Am checking that
Hey Mark great video. Can I ask what you are using as your main camera? Film quality is excellent.
Thanks! It's the Sony FX3.
Do you think it will support stage manager and an external display? Guessing no as it’s not an M series chip?
Thanks for the great and speedy content as always
Even ipad 10th gen supports external display.
@@AquilaTheHun yeah but screen mirroring isn’t a great experience. The M series chips in the air and the pro allow for a much more useful experience for my workflow. It would be great to have that functionality in the form factor of the mini
Hi
Great video
I am looking forward to iPad mini seven 7
Can’t wait
Been a long time coming
iPad mini 6 couple years now
I love it
😊🇬🇧
I really want to get this, but if the jelly scrolling problem isn't resolved I don't think I can as someone who gets motion sickness .
Just placed the order
Will it run Final Cut Pro?
Does anybody know whether it will support Stage Manager with extended display? That’s the only thing that I was looking forward in an iPad Mini 7.
Same! The new chip and double the ram. I would upgrade day of release.
Great info. I just trade in and get it next week. I agree is a fantastic iPad
Will it have Apple Intelligence on the iPad mini seven and what new features are in iPad mini seven
The camera of the iPhone 16 in a iPad mini 😊
I just wish that it had a oled screen
Will the old iPad mini 6th gen folio cases fit the new 7th gen iPad mini’s?
They do. When announced the 7, I bought a burnt orange folio case from a reliable vendor on eBay....paid 25.00! Arrived brand new and box fresh! Check there first before the vendors were up!
Just want an iPad Mini Pro.. Face ID, M1, OLED, & Pro Motion
It just feels like the same iPad but with a few upgraded specs that no one really would care about
Thanks for posting this video
Thanks.
I need an iPad Mini Pro 😢
Watching you on my iPad Mini 6, I like the idea of double the RAM & double the basic hard drive size. Will I be buying one……Mmmmmm
NO……
If it had the A18 Chip, then maybe…..but still unlikely……I just wanted something more, it’s close so I’d guess it will boil down to Apple Intelligence and if that bring the added extra must have thing I was hoping for.
My next iPad will be oled, the 11 inch M4 is the favourite so far
Apple should have installed a second rear camera lens on the IPad Mini so there would be either an ultrawide lens or a ultrazoom lens for video and photos. Other than the larger storage space there’s little reason to upgrade unless retail price is somewhat the same as in other countries (I’m in Asia). And Apple Intelligence potential has yet to be tested.
I’d love to upgrade from the 6 but the new specs don’t justify it.
Funny for me, the iPad Mini is the one device I have absolutely no use case for, my Pro Max covers what I would use the Mini for.
So when you get the new iPad Mini, (1) what is the BATTERY LIFE like? (2) Does it heat up like the A17 chip made the iPhone 15 Pro do?
Hello from Austria ❤ pls test if the stage manager will work, thanks!
Thinking of getting a new ipad for my 6 year old daughter to replace the gen 1 ipad pro i gave her , this is extremely tempting, but i was also waiting for the refreshed base ipad to come out to see how both fare vs each other - defo food for thought , ty for the content fella , new viewer here
l'll be buying one. I'm actually replacing my iPad Pro 12.9 Gen 3. I went from iPad only to the M2 MacBook Air and don't use it much anymore except for a few things for work. I've ALWAYS loved the mini and look forward to getting it in my hand! Now...just which color to get.
@teejay62453 That's at the top of my list. Not too interested in the new purple. For me it's Blue, Black and Starlight. I'm going to the Apple store when they are released to check out which color I like.
I don’t use a Mini (I have an 11” M4 iPad as ‘my only computer” and absolutely love it) but it really does look like the barest of bones update here and after 3 years that is disappointing for mini users!!
I have been waiting to upgrade my mini 4. Though I feel bad for peeps that recently paid 499.00 for the 64 gig mini 6. P.S. the mini 6 case is on eBay for 25.00. It is compatible with the mini 7. Bought a new one in burnt orange before people twig and the prices shoot up! Then with the money saved, buy a plug which no longer comes with the I pad 😞. I have an I phone 13 USBC plug so can use that.
I kinda hate myself, but yes I think I'm going to get one. I was so sad when I couldn't get the new Apple Pencil Pro for my mini. I am also sad there is no magic keyboard mini. They really need to make that. I'm gonna sleep on it.
I'm still happy with my iPad mini 6th gen.
Glad I upgraded to the iPad Pro M4 instead of waiting for this.
I was waiting for the iPad mini 7 but a couple of months ago I bought the iPad Pro M4 11 inch which is only slightly bigger than the iPad mini 7 But far more powerful and last much longer.
Also A17 chip not enough for mini 7.
I’m glad I made the right choice on the iPad Pro M4 11 inch a far superior better product and still very portable like the mini 7.
dust/fingerprints "collecting" test depends of color black(cosmic)/white(silver)
I’d love one if it’s got the same oomph as my 2022 iPad Pro.
Nice review, Is it compatible with all apple pencil generations ?
Of course not. You can buy everything again.
Hurts to buy those beautiful apple pencil for 130$ again :)
@@freewhiteboard That is one of the many reasons not to even think of getting the 7, not if you have a 6.
honest to god, i have an air m2. i am trying so hard to like it but its too big for my usage. but the specs on a mini is frustrating. but you know what. i may switch anyway because of the use case. gosh new age problems
I use logic all the time with my 256 gb mini 6. Love it! Will definitely be getting a seven!!!
3:23 LOL.... One might also say that if its the only one you can use one handed, instead of two handed like all the other Ipads, that it would be minimally handy.
