- On 6 January 1999, Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones held a press conference and photoshoot in the gardens of St James's Palace, having announced that morning that they were engaged to be married. The pair made the cameras wait before allowing them to see the ring on Sophie's hand, and Prince Edward was reluctant to meet the press' requests to see the royal couple kiss. The future Countess of Wessex, meanwhile, was asked how she felt at the prospect of joining the royal family.

A very quiet down to earth Royal couple- a very nice change

Edward is the only one of the 4 children to stay married first time to Sophie an amazing couple. Still in love with each other 25 years later
The press are quite annoying and ask the most inane questions then don't even allow Prince Edward to finish responding!!
The couple managed that splendidly though. Edward in particular very skillfully conducted that whole experience extremely smoothly and competently whilst also remaining attentive to Sophie's comfort levels.
It's quite obvious that they both got to know one another thoroughly and built a great connection based on cultivated love, mutual respect and an intimate friendship.
I think Prince Edward made the wisest best choice of a life partner. Better than siblings did. She looks like Diana...

I was 16 nearly 17 then my first royal wedding I remember watching and since then I’ve been a massive fan of Edward and Sophie my favourite royals

Prince William seems to have taken after his Uncle Prince Edward. May both marriages continue to be filled with love, good health, laughter and blessings.

I honestly believe Sophie & Edward are in love & happily married because they chose each other & took their time to get married. Curses & pushy royal standards aside, this is how you have an equal, loving marriage.
Though I still believe if Charles had a backbone, he wouldn’t have had the issues he did. No one cares that he loves Camilla, but to bring a young girl into the firm, use her, leave her adrift & then cheat is where people are mad at him. Trying to have your cake & eat it too.
Only one of queens kids to not divorce and still in love all those years later and are just the best parents to Louise and James

If Camilla had respected her own and certainly the Royal couple's marital vows, perhaps they would've had a fighting chance but we'll never know that.
Although he had several women on his roster the others weren't as bold & pushy as Camilla, close witnesses have divulged.
Charles has always romanticised the Edwardian era by all accounts, and believes in his right to mistresses.
Camilla is fine with that lifestyle as she had the same arrangement in her first marriage, so they make a better fit, I suppose.
Princess Diana didn't deserve that as is rightfully pointed out. She just desperately wanted to be wholly loved and never to experience divorce because of her childhood.
The irony is that she believed in her naïvetè that this was the one man that couldn't ever divorce!!
Charles did set a new historic precedent though.
