So Edward didn't turn out too bad after a so-called pampered young life. Stable marriage, educated, beautiful family and faithful.
It’s hard not to be pampered when you’re born into royalty. I think their parents especially his father kept him grounded and then Sophie helped, being a commoner.
Let’s face it, he’s learnt from his older siblings how not to bugger things up, also having a good women has been the making of Edward!!

Diana and Sophie are from different backgrounds, they are different people and should be respected as such without comparison
I get annoyed by anyone saying anything bad about Princess Diane because she had this chemistry to attract people around her. This was obvious at a young age but she knew what made her look pretty. Not all of her clothes were attractive because the fewer designs or floral prints on her garments made her look sophisticated. not overwhelmed. As for Princess Anne never smiled ever so how can she attract people with a sour-face individual. I know she does a lot of charities but she could have tried to be more appealing with less of a frown on her face. However, she was a championship horse woman which is an appealing quality to have in the Royal Family.

Here's the difference:
Sophie was a career woman and already educated while Diana was young and barely held a serious job.
Sophie and Edward dated for a few years before getting hitched while Charles and Diana barely knew each other.
Edward protected Sophie from the media while Charles never protected Diana.
Edward is the better man who learned from his siblings mistakes and ensured his wife was treated right.

I would say that's exactly what Harry had done too, but a lot of people would disagree with me because that meant taking his wife away from the Royal Family instead of watching her go through the depression his mother went through! All because she wasn't born in that country and didn't know the traditions and on top of that married into the royal family and didn't know their Traditions to boot and what protocol was and nobody was willing to show her.

She was not a British citizen and the Queen recommended that she continue her work as an actress, but Meghan was not willing to accept guidance or spend time learning the UK culture. Read Tom Bower's book "Revenge." On TV, Harry told the world he would train Meghan but behind the scenes what did they do? The Queen even dispatched many of her own helpers to mentor Meghan, but Meghan wanted to do it her way. Her background is sitting on set memorizing lines, never a corporate job. She was unwilling to accept guidance. Marry in haste, repent at leisure. Not to mention the way she treated staff...

I think Sophie is not just beautiful but does all of her charity work without headlines. She is a real Royal in the sense that she keeps a lot of what she does quiet. Edward chose well.
She gets “headlines,” just not as many as William and Catherine.
I really like Sophie she is an all around great young woman. I so appreciate that she adapts to just about any situations.She is doing alot of charity work but never gloats like some do. She does her duty without ceremony and goes on with life.She is great🌹

Judy Wade was PATHETIC in her criticism of Sophie trying to copy Diana. Diana didn't "own" any particular look. She dressed in every color and was able to wear every design imaginable. Just because someone else wears the same color dress doesn't mean she was trying to imitate Diana. Besides, Sophie has proved to be one of the most stable and hard working members of the Royal Family for the last 20 years. Then again, Judy Wade would make every excuse possible for Fergie's bad behavior, so she doesn't seem to be the best judge of character.
Copy Diana is such a weird accusation just for example her hairstyle was famous in the 80's my mom had similar haircut but hers is curly. Her wedding dress from the 80's was the same big fluffy one such as Diana's and not because of Diana its was because that was the fashion 🙅♀️ I like Sophie and her daughter who is a horse lover such as the Queen.

Sophie looked beautiful before/after she married Prince Edward in 1999. Moving forward some 22 yrs, after the marriage, Sophie is a fashionable elegant lady, always looking beautiful. Sophie has class.

It has been said that her hairdresser convinced her to grow her hair, and that has served her well to have her own look. In her defense, everyone had a Diana do back then, it was the fashion.
Yes, Sophie is very attractive and always has been. She has a very kind and friendly air about her and you can see that in how she relates to the people she meets while carrying out her royal duties. She is always happy to engage with people and you can see how they like and respond to her warmth. Prince Edward made a very good choice of wife, Sophie is a real asset to the Monarchy. It will be interesting to see if Lady Louise will take on Royal duties too, she seems a very sensible girl and must have been a favourite of Prince Philips I think, with a shared love of carriage driving. The Queen also rides out a lot with Lady Louise and I can see how perfectly she would adjust to being a working royal as she matures. Just as her mother is such a vital part of the Royal family.

I could have thumped that woman (not that I’m advocating violence) that was interviewed critiquing Sophie regarding hairstyles, clothing and even Sophie’s body shape! Women of similar age dress alike at any time whether they are related or not it’s called fashion.
Diana was jealous that she was so obviously not the only young lady marrying into the RF. it wasn’t all about her anymore and couldn’t cope. Shows how fragile Diana truly was. Screams jealousy.

This documentary was composed before the Wessex’s had children. Therefore as I am writing this now in 2022 and Lady Louise is 18 years old it has proven that the Wessex marriage has, so far, been successful. That last photo of Sophie and Edward gave me goosebumps. May their future and family be strong and aspiring.

So nice that Edward chose such a wonderful woman to be his bride. He and Sophie are a great match. Their's is a successful marriage; whereas, his siblings' marriages ended in divorce. I think Her Majesty the Queen is glad that one of her children has a successful marriage. It is no wonder why the Queen likes Sophie so much.
No matter where or what Sophie and Edward did or came from in the past...they have really built a fantastic foundation of 2 happily marries Royals who now are the backbone of the RF. You can tell that the Queen really appreciates Sophie's contribution to the RF and is very happy with her. Edward and Sophie had somewhat of a rocky start here and there..but now their marriage is the most successful of all of the Queen's kids. Good for them..they really turned out well..
I had to stop watching about half way through. I was under the impression that this was supposed to be a documentary about Sophie's pre-royal life and her relationship with Edward, not a comparison between Sophie and Diana (and quite a negative one at that!).

Those sparkly things made the dress special. I noticed those ‘sparkling things’ they were almost unoticeable, but nevertheless caught your attention very subtly
and it made all the difference. She knew her business like a real lady. That dress and the ‘sparkling things’ told her personal story and future story-it denoted her past life and future life .. It was a special day and it announced the change in a very subtle way. Smart girl.

Sophie is not a commoner, She has all the airs and graces of a duchess. I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Sophie when I worked for a PR company that dealt with The Duke of Edinburgh Awards. On one of her visits, when going out for lunch with the team, she borrowed my coat, as the heavens opened up and she was without a coat. She is one of the loveliest lady’s I had the pleasure of meeting.
Hayley, there's nothing wrong with being a commoner. The Queen consort Elizabeth the first, the mother of our current Queen, was a commoner. She did well by her marriage. Most of the Royals in Europe have married commoners --often from Australia, South Africa, Canada, excetera, and they've all done well. THE Queen needed somebody who was untroubled; with a normal family background, who could bring simplicity and stability to the life of her youngest child and she succeeded. Sophie's NOT perfect. I remember reading that she and Edward did some chronicling of the royal family and published it and the Queen said that is a NO NO DO NOT ever DO THAT AGAIN. .
And she did not. And I believe they shut down the publishing company. And So It Goes.
You and I are commoners and I think we are fantastic people. THE ONLY difference between us & the Royals is THEY wear BETTER clothes; eat BETTER food; and they change their accent once they become a royal unless they are unto the manor born.

What about Catherine and Prince William though? Their marriage is very happy and both have such a loving close bond that just shines through when you see them together. I think Catherine is strikingly lovely, a true English rose. Sophie is very attractive, I agree, and has a lovely personality too. Both these royal couples have good marriages and both will stand a lifetime I am sure.

I think Sophie is just as beautiful as Diana ever was. She’s beautiful in her own way and shouldn’t be constantly compared with Diana. The outfit she wore at the announcement of her engagement was perfect. She matched her future husband’s outfit and didn’t try for a “wow!” factor. Also she may be shorter than Diana was but she definitely has better curves! And her smile is so genuine and contagious that you can tell she is truly happy. As for sex appeal she definitely has that to be sure. I can see what Edward found so attractive about her. I believe that they will be married long into old age and I’m happy for them. That family has had a string of bad luck with marriages and Edward seems to be the best of them. As a side note I think William and Kate will also be married into old age as well. Cheers

Edward and Sophie created a life together and their relationship developed naturally .Unfortunately Diana was thrust into an unnatural life at the age of 20 and did not have a long standing friendship / romance with Charles.
The main difference is that Edward's grandmother and Sophie's grandmother didn't plot together and shove them into an inappropriate marriage. Charles needed a wife and Diana ( and her family ) wanted a royal connection. Charles' heart was already taken and Diana knew this but wanted to be a princess . Doomed from the start while Edward and Sophie took the time to fall in love slowly and naturally!

If only Prince Charles had put his foot down and insisted that Camilla was the one woman he wanted to marry - but with him being the heir to the throne and so much pressure on him to marry a young 'suitable' woman he was pushed into marriage with Diana through the grandmothers.
Although I have read that Diana's grandmother later admitted she knew Diana had emotional problems and she regretted pushing so hard for the marriage. Hindsight is a great thing isn't it?

With Charles, she refused to consider Camilla and likely thought her son's infatuation with her eas ridiculous, so Charles was brought together with the 'perfect girl' (on paper) but he could not love Diana, regardless of her suitability and charms and Diana in her great distress unravelled.
So with Edward I think she needed to see love but also a grown woman with common sense, practicality who fit and lucky that is what Edward wanted too.
Theirs is a lovely story and that approach was repeated with William.
Charles and Camilla are one of the great love stories of our age. Charles never stopped loving her - he has stayed devoted to her for life and she is such a humble and compassionate woman, well loved in the royal family now - hated and blamed for too much. She looked so nervous and frightened at the Queen's funeral. I really felt for her.
Edward chose well, Sophie is an attractive, dutiful, hardworking loyal woman. She is a riding companion for HM The Queen and has some 70 patronages. During this pandemic she and Edward have been supportive and taken on more work on behalf of HM and the country.

Their wedding was so simple or not as grand as the rest of the royal weddings but I must say, twas such an intimate and precious moment for Prince Edward and the Countess of Wessex, Sophie. And it’s lovely that they remained happy and in love to this day (they’re celebrating their 22nd Wedding Anniversary this year!❤️) and in the coming days of their lives as husband and wife.

Contrary to what most people seem to think about Diana, I think her great popularity was because she was EXACTLY what a Royal personage should be. Her heritage gave her many famous and regal ancestors and I believe this made her that unique noblewoman admired by all. Others do not have this magic in their heritage. Just my opinion, but I feel this is true of the wonderful Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales.

Well look at the sources... royal correspondents and royal historians who've got little to say but compare one royal offspring's mate against the others and add little in the way of nuance or even interest. At least the biographers had concrete evidence and knowledge of their subject to contribute some originality but the self important sycophants where bloody useless.
Even in death, Diana is still the main event. Just the sight of her, draws throngs of viewers. I was surprised at how often she was mentioned. This was supposed to be Edward and Sophie's story, but it turned into a story of how Sophie paled in comparison to Diana. On the whole, this was not a flattering view of Sophie.
Sophie is wonderful, and Edward certainly handled the press in a nice manner, he was wise to take things slowly, and he appears very humble as well. Sophie never drew attention to herself, just a lovely genuine woman. Too bad Harry and Meghan didn't follow their example.
