That subtle look Kristen Scott Thomas gives when she welcomes Lily James? So amazing for just a facial expression change.

Poor Elio crying for him back in Italy and this is what Oliver doing eventhough he remember everything.
So the late Mrs. de Winter is Elio? Their love couldn't be accepted at that time so Elio faked his death to make Oliver get over him... haha I'm thinking too much

fingers crossed Find Me will be made soon.
I think so. Oliver is willing do anything to be back with Elio.
This movie was strange. At first romance, then thriller, getting close to a horror (that's what I thought) then suddenly drama, criminal and drama again. Cool!
Sounds like my 1st marriage 😂

Rebecca was Maxim's gay persona. 😂😂
You know this was a novel first, right? Daphne Dumaurier is the author.
This has a very summery, pastel vibe. The book actually has a very dark, gothic, sombre vibe.
I feel like the whole shiny, summery pastel vibe has become Netflix's trademark. I love the dark, haunting and suspenseful feel in the book.
Almost like Call me by your name
@@MultiShivalik damn that book has the best vibe!
The vibe actually shifts when she gets to the house.
Yes, as Jazzmine mentioned, you'll find a shift when they get to the house. After all, the summery, pastel vibe isn't really Ben Wheatley's style. I actually found this darker than Hitchcock's 1940 masterpiece. The book is definitely even more dark and gothic, but I think this new adaptation's worth a watch. Don't let the trailer discourage you. :)

Haven't we learned from Crimson Peak that marrying a rich widower and move to his mansion is never a good idea?
She is not a rich girl. She is poor, young and naive. Obsviously never read the novel. Its about something else... (in the Book, the young woman her name never is revealed).

THE CASTING IS CHEF'S KISS....ALSO THEY ARE BOTH AMAZING ACTORS SO GOTTA HAVE HIGH HOPES FOR IT
+1... the casting sold me. So on point. 👌
Not to mention, Sam Riley. Lily James’ leading man in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
Kristen Scott Thomas as mrs danvers is such a good call. She's great as being cold and posh and distant
@@mai.vancon Sam Riley! Yes! Such a great choice!
Mrs. Danvers might have been cold and distant but she was not posh - she was a servant that had been with Rebecca since she was a child. That's my
complaint about her casting. Kristen Scott Thomas definitely has a posh vibe and comes across as too intelligent. She'd be perfect for Rebecca if there
any flashbacks of that character.
Those two dogs carried 90% of the film's plot progression on their tiny backs
This movie taught me hate can be just as powerful as love.
what a great words !
I beg differ, hate is the second most strongest emotion after the regret.
@@rameezqaisar1065 yeah that makes sense as well regret is something which can't be surpassed even if we try are best we can be happy but that one regret will haunt us till death and hate can be turned as weapon. Hate can form any shape whether it's manipulation, horror , even anger.
It is
I’m living it
Yet true love removes hate? Forgiveness, care, concern, understanding....
This looks pretty good... the original book is deliciously dark and sumptuous...
Ooouuu Nerd😍😍
Is it a supernatural movie?
Yea dude...it is actually dark
@4LIFE1DEEP1 No vampires, nothing supernatural (at least in the book anyway) just the dark sides of human nature
It's just remake of 1940 movie of same name directed by Alfred Hitchcock
I love how everyone is going on about Lily and Armie (nice actors that they are), when lefts face it, Kristin Scott-Thomas is gonna totally rule this movie
Just love her and confide in her acting force
Mrs Danvers always does. After Rebecca, who doesn't even have to show. xD
In the 1940 version, Judith Anderson, who brilliantly portrayed Mrs. Danvers, totally ruled that movie too.
Right? I really miss her character in confessions of a shopaholic
Yeah, she's the main reason why I'm watching.
That and it looks like is going to be pretty decent
I look forward to the scene when she comes down wearing Rebecca's dress
A very popular scene!
in this movie, it sucked 🙄
@@imalice6806 agh man that is really disappointing.
thats the best scene
@@imalice6806 no it was good. stop being pretentious
What i wanted the most is to see Rebecca and to know if she was as beautiful as they are describing her
I'm pretty sure they are not going to show Rebecca, because in the book and The first movie (1940) She was never shown
The whole point of Rebecca's character is that she's this mysterious superwoman that we (from the new wife's point of view) never get to know.
That's what makes it even better and also, the second wife doesn't even have a first name to ever be mentioned. When I read the book, I was waiting the entire time to know her name but I think that was intentional because she was living in Rebecca's shadow. It's a great book. This movie depicted it very well.
Even she doesn't have a picture in her room and between her staff ...you don't get it ? well, the book IS good, but people give it too much credit. It's actually a copy of a brazilian book called "A Sucessora" by Carolina Nabuco
It is a good book, but it is not a classic like Notre Dame de Paris by Victor Hugo.
The genius of Hitchcock who made history immortal.
@@anninriverside755 A lot of people know the Shining. Kubrick's version is notoriously different than the book but loved for the changes it made because it was still scary and the technical aspects of how it was filmed. If you want a more book accurate version, there's a 90s miniseries version of it. But beware, the cgi is not very good and it comes off as very corny and hilarious sometimes when its supposed to be scary lol
Obviously... is really hard to explaine words with imagens. Specially if the "story" Must to last just two hours. I didnt watch the movie yet, but always Books wins to any "visual" adaptation, because people "create" that world with their imagination and maybe the imagen, the atmosphere in a movie cant compare as their imagen in their mind. That is the reason Why we continue reading Books...

At first I'm like "Do we REALLY need yet ANOTHER adaptation of this novel?" but I have to admit, the casting is spot on and it looks pretty damn good. So yea, I guess we did need another.
I've read the book and I love the Alfred Hitchcock version but this might be fun to see.
To be fair it’s been quite a while. And the Hitchcock version is the only real film adaptation. Everything else is television. And i think it’s nice go have a 21st century adaptation for modern audiences who weren’t aware of the novel or aren’t interested in old movies. This is at least an interesting story with complex female characters so i don’t see the problem since it’s been ages since the last adaptation
The Hitchcock film was good but he changed the ending, so I'm hoping this one is more faithful.

This remake was so amazing! Does a stellar job of both honoring Daphne Du Maurier's classic novel and putting it's own inventive spin on it! The acting is superb, especially the always wonderful Lily James and Kristin Scott Thomas (who is absolute perfection as Mrs. Danvers). The critics were so unfair to it, yet for some reason they adored Armando Iannucci's remake of David Copperfield which frankly made a barefaced joke out of Dickens.

I really really liked this!! It feels like a "modern" jane ayre storie. Romantic, thrilling, unpredictable and very well played by the actors. Would recommend.
I like that Kristen Scott Thomas is going for a different take on Mrs Danvers making her less ghostly and more threatening in a subtle way. l can see this Mrs Danvers being a lot more believable to psychologically torture the young second Mrs De Winter. It’s hard to compare with Judith Anderson’s iconic performance in the 1940 film but doing something different is the right way to go. It looks wonderful. Maybe I’m very premature but I’m sensing early Oscar buzz for costumes, production and maybe Lily James. This Second Mrs De Winter seems a lot less waifish and more of an interesting psychological journey than other versions. Maybe one for Anderson as well.
Oh I hope you're right! Although it would be a shame to loose too many of the subtleties of the original material. I am hoping the trailer has merely picked the more blunt scenes of the film.
I have been obsessed with Hitchcock's Rebecca since I saw it in the 80s (while working at Blockbuster Video), and have read the novel several times as well as watched the BBC adaptation with the late Diana Riggs...and I'm COMPLETELY into this adaptation---Kristen Scott Thomas can do no wrong in my book!
Fred Howard I like how each of the three big adaptations of Rebecca has focused on a different element the 1940 version focused on the gothic suspense elements the 1997 on the period mystery elements this version focusing on the dark romance aspects

I love this story, and the casting looks fab, the leading ladies in particular
The cast is perfection. SO looking forward to this.
The stage production of this was phenomenal
It's an interesting and ballsy choice to make Rebecca feel grounded in reality, the book and the movie both made that universe feel like a vampy fairytale gone wrong, where Manderley was this otherworldly place. I think they're deliberately trying to flesh out the environment, make the settings, the clothing, the sociopolitical environment more concrete, demonstrate a more modern Rebecca-it almost reads as Gatsby-like in tone. The question is whether it will come at the expense of the story.
This!!!! I knew something was off a few seconds into it and I just couldn't put my finger on it.
They destroyed it. Whatever they were trying to do, it sucked.
Its been up for less than an hour but i am rewatching it for 7 times now
I hope this has the twist in the book! I remember being so sad when the 1940 version couldn't show it bc it wasn't "appropriate."
It does from what I understand, it's faithful to the book.
Wait..........what twist? -You know - nevermind - don't tell me. (giggles)
The 1940 film still has the twist, it just doesn't show it
What twist?
And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is reason enough to do a second lavish film adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier's novel 80 years after Hitchcock's.
