Brother, there are a lot of boxing basics videos on YT. Yours are next level stuff. Love the way you break things down and communicate in a way that even beginners like myself can understand. Not sure why you do it other than maybe for the love of the sport but realize it is appreciated!
Thanks JT, perfect timing as I’m feeling drained from working the bag everyday since it’s the only thing I can do during C-19 lockdown. This will help mix things up. I definitely need to work on my rhythm and flow. It is amazing how taxing it can be on the body. You don’t realize it until you start sparring and you feel out of breath after the first round. Cheers!
Are you still shadow boxing daily? Are you doing any roadwork or jumping rope or even just going on walks? There are a lot of factors that can be contributing to you tiring after 1 round of sparring, if that’s what’s happening

Tony Teller i had to burst your bubble, but boxing cannot properly be self taught. There’s a bunch of little things you’re not picking up on because you’ve never had your peers or coaches critique your form or style. Anyone w proper training would pick you apart 🥱

I have commented on only 5 videos in my lifetime on youtube since its inception. And I swear I thought this man was Nate Diaz. Like, damn dawg! Also great instruction too.
This is awesome... Thanks! Having started boxing & Muay Thai in my early 40's (I'm 43 almost 44 now) these tips are fantastic for me. Thank you so much! 👏👍🙏👊🥊🙂😀
I've been watching a lot of your videos for the past two weeks can't wait to get into a boxing gym but right now I have to just work on drills and combinations
Loool i did this at the end of my boxing training when i was too tired to punch hard and dig the punches. I mean the flow rounds. I really enjoyed it. Although as you said i felt guilty because it was like fun and not hard work. Nice to hear that this was not wrong.
Love your videos !! I wish you could invite older fighters to give tips training or advice. that would be great to watch you & larry holms or you & Lennox lewis or even you & kevin rooney .boxing would benefit a lot from something like that.
I needed this! If I can SEE how a thing is done, I can replicate it FAR easier. I wish more clubs did group fight analysis you know? Like the trainers pull up Some Fight, and watch it through with the boxers to point things out to them, good/bad/and indifferent. I'd watch the boxers in my club but then I wouldn't be training, plus I don't like to stare at people. Anyway, thank you *so* much! You rawk. And that one video where you gave the court shoe tip was like an omgwow! Secret tip. So amped to finally find the right training shoe aaaaand.. COVID came :/ STAY SAFE. WASH HANDS FREQUENTLY. OR I'LL TELL YA MOMS! 😜
Is this also something to work on after an illness...let's say Corona? So let's say a training to get back in the game again. Or is there an a alternative? Great vid as always 🥊
I’m 48 started getting shoulder pain. I think I’m digging in too hard on my heavy bag sessions. Too much swinging for the fences. I’m going to try doing only these rhythm and flow styles for about 2 weeks and hope my shoulder heals up. Ty.
Coach Jay Van, thank you for all your wisdom and advice. Would you please create more of those shadow boxing videos in which you call out the numbers (example: 1,1,2; 2,3,3; 1,1,2,3; etc.). Those shadow boxing videos are excellent!
Don’t push with your right hand. You can improve it by NOT turning the punch over and repeatedly hitting the bag. When you then start turning the punch over you’ll use more leverage
Question, my head hurts when I shadow box. Especially if I throw hard when doing so. Is it not a good idea to throw with power while shadowboxing? It mostly hurts at the end of my punches. Thanks for any advice.
Is being both stances a thing for beginner's? I'm left handed but really it feels good in either. I find myself already stepping through southpaw and throwing doing a step off and switching back. Doing alot of mma stuff so I like to kick from south paw. Idk if this is somthing I should limit in my beginner phase or us it just normal for some. Anyone got some insight on this? I'm like a month in and just starting to get my footwork to feel natural.
Genuine question I'm 30+ do MMA, I'm fairly new training less than two years, but I know I'm a striker I like to work on my feet. But I keep over extending on my jab. I was doing a virtual sparring on this channel and it happened again. Forcing me to stop, now I want eventually want to step in a cage, anyone got any good tips to stop yourself over extending?
This is the big problem with most of the younger generation boxers today fundamentals and Foundation they do not want to go back to it they all think Talent and Power will get them through💥👊!!
This is amazing video, i am so proud off you how you relaxing those punches. Today i have realy hard drill i decide i hope it is not bad that i will put in to my one handed weights 2,5 kg more so it is 5 kg. My hands are up and shoulders were burn and i try to do fastes punches that i can with it, and after a half a year 2 days back i get beautifull lap training with my amazing coach. This night i woke up because i was punching from the sleep. Guys pls did this happen to someone else? :) I dont know your name my internet coach but you bring me so much motivation.
